As a first example for the chemistry of oil gland secretions in the Hermannioidea (one of the three superfamilies of desmonomatan Oribatida), the oil gland secretion of Hermannia convexa was investigated by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Hexane extracts of all juvenile stages showed a multicomponent chromatographic pattern, mainly consisting of well-known oil gland secretion components such as neral, geranial, -acaridial and the unsaturated C17-hydrocarbons, 6,9-heptadecadiene and 8-heptadecene. The secretion profiles of juveniles varied slightly between samples of two different collections, namely in the presence of -acaridial and 8-heptadecene. Furthermore, a minor component, identified as 1,8-cineole (= eucalyptol) and hitherto not known from oil gland secretions of other species, was recorded in both juvenile and adult extracts. In adult profiles, 1,8-cineole, in low amounts, represented the only detectable component; thus, their profiles fundamentally differed from those of juveniles. A subsequent histological investigation revealed well developed oil glands in all juvenile stages, but degenerated oil glands in adults, consistent with the chemical data. So far, apart from H. convexa, degeneration of oil glands in the course of ontogenetic development is only known from a brachypylid species; on the other hand, chemical oil gland-polymorphism between juveniles and adults may occur in closely related Nothridae while it does not occur in oil glands of early- and middle-derivative Oribatida (Parhyposomata, Mixonomata, trhypochthoniid Desmonomata), nor in astigmatid mites.This revised version was published online in May 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

The multicomponent oil gland secretion of Collohmannia gigantea, a middle-derivative mixonomatan oribatid mite, is demonstrated to possess alarm pheromonal and allomonal properties. Four components of the secretion, namely the monoterpenes neryl formate, neral, geranial and the aromatic 2-hydroxy- 6-methyl-benzaldehyde (2,6-HMBD), showed moderate to strong alarm pheromonal activity in adult mites. Naturally elicited response is due to neral (about 50% of the secretion) and probably 2,6-HMBD (only 5% of the secretion, but strong alarm pheromonal activity). This is the second report of an alarm pheromone in Oribatida. Tridecane and pentadecane (=the hydrocarbon fraction of the secretion) did not evoke evident behavioural reactions, and most likely serve as solvents and spreading agents for the pheromonal-active components. Alarm reactions were characterized by a short recognition phase (waving movements with legs I), followed by shrinking back and panic escape from the scent source. In addition, all six components of the oil gland secretion, including the hydrocarbons, exhibited strong allomonal properties against a model oribatid predator, the scydmaenid beetle, Euconnus (Tetramelus) oblongus. Considering the widespread semiochemical properties of oil gland secretions in astigmatid mites (=a highly derivative oribatid group), these results furnish evidence for a phylogenetically early origin of defensive and communicative roles of oil gland secretions in oribatids. ABSTRACT

Using a crude enzyme solution prepared from astigmatid mites, the conversion reaction to (Z,Z)-6,9-heptadecadiene (6,9-C17) using linoleyl aldehyde (LAld) as a substrate was successful. The mass spectrum of the reaction product using 13C-labeled LAld as a substrate could be assigned as 13C-labeled 6,9-C17. Unlike the findings in other species, the decarbonylase derived from mites did not require a coenzyme.  相似文献

Seven unsaturated hydrocarbons were isolated from the volatiles of two species of flour beetles, Tribolium castaneum and T. confusum, and identified as 1-pentadecene, 1-heptadecene, 1,8-heptadecadiene, 1-tetradecene, 1-hexadecene, 1,6-pentadecadiene and heptadecatriene by GLC, GLC–MS, NMR, IR and micro-ozonolysis. This is the first report of the presence of these compounds in red flour beetles, and the last four compounds are also reported for the first time in confused flour beetles. These compounds are strong repellents for the same species or each other. The roles of these compounds are discussed.  相似文献

The hydrocarbon and lipid components of four strains of the filamentous cyanobacterium Scytonema sp. isolated from microbial community Black Cover of limestone walls in Jerusalem were identified by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry using serially coupled capillary columns. The dominant compounds were: 1-heptadecyne (1.5-8%), hexadecanoic acid (14-36%), (Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienoic acid (12-30%), (Z,Z,Z)-9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid (6-12%), n-heptadecane (4-16%), and 1-heptadecene (1.5-8%). In addition to unsaturated alkanes and fatty acids, the very long-chain (C30-C32) hydrocarbons, squalene (2.4-3.0%), and branched 4,8,12-trimethyl-C13:0 acid were also isolated. Two major hydrocarbons were detected in the cyanobacteria species using GC-MS and 13C-NMR.  相似文献

The stored-product mite Suidasia medanensis has been found in human-provided habitats in Japan. The mite uses neral as the alarm pheromone, and also secretes (Z,E)- and (£,£)-farnesal, which were isolated from an astigmatid mite for the first time. On the other hand, S. medanensis is the only mite out of fifteen species investigated so far that does not secrete volatile hydrocarbons along with the alarm pheromone, though 9-nonadecene and 6,9-nonadecadiene were found in a hexane extract of the mite. GC-MS, JH-NMR and 13C-NMR of the four isomers of synthetic farnesal, which were isolated by LC and preparative GLC, cleared up some confusion in the literature concerning the stereochemistry of this sesquiterpenoid.  相似文献

A strictly anaerobic, homoacetogenic, Gram-positive, non spore-forming bacterium, designated strain SR12T(T=type strain), was isolated from an anaerobic methanogenic digestor fed with olive mill wastewater. Yeast extract was required for growth but could also be used as sole carbon and energy source. Strain SR12Tutilized a few carbohydrates (glucose, fructose and sucrose), organic compounds (lactate, crotonate, formate and betaine), alcohols (methanol), the methoxyl group of some methoxylated aromatic compounds, and H2+CO2. The end-products of carbohydrate fermentation were acetate, formate, butyrate, H2and CO2. End-products from lactate and methoxylated aromatic compounds were acetate and butyrate. Strain SR12Twas non-motile, formed aggregates, had a G+C content of 55 mol % and grew optimally at 35°C and pH 7.2 on a medium containing glucose. Phylogenetically, strain SR12Twas related toEubacterium barkeri, E. callanderi, andE. limosumwithE. barkerias the closest relative (similarity of 98%) with which it bears little phenotypic similarity or DNA homology (60%). On the basis of its phenotypic, genotypic, and phylogenetic characteristics, we propose to designate strain SR12TasEubacterium aggreganssp. nov. The type strain is SR12T(=DSM 12183).  相似文献

Seven candidates for components of the female sex pheromone of Eilema japonica (Arctiidae, Lithosiinae) were detected in an extract of pheromone glands with a gas chromatograph-electroantennographic detector. The compounds were identified as (Z,Z)-6,9-icosadiene (D20), (Z,Z)-6,9-henicosadiene (D21), (Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-henicosatriene (T21), (Z,Z)-6,9-docosadiene (D22), (Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-docosatriene (T22), (Z,Z)-6,9-tricosadiene (D23), and (Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-tricosatriene (T23). Assays using synthetic lures in a wind tunnel showed that D21 (proportion, 0.39), T21 (0.08), D22 (0.27), and T22 (0.26) are important for evoking full behavioral responses from the males. Titers of the pheromone components did not show clear temporal fluctuations. Moreover, decapitation of the female moth had no effect on the titers of pheromone components in the pheromone gland, suggesting that cephalic endocrine factors such as pheromone biosynthesis activating neuropeptide (PBAN) are not involved in the control of pheromone biosynthesis in this species.  相似文献

Metabolically-engineered Escherichia coli strains were developed by cloning poly-γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) biosynthesis genes, consisting of pgsB, pgsC and pgsA, from Bacillus subtilis The metabolic and regulatory pathways of γ-PGA biosynthesis in E. coli were analyzed by DNA microarray. The inducible trc promoter and a constitutive promoter (PHCE) derived from the d-amino acid aminotransferase (D-AAT) gene of Geobacillus toebii were employed. The constitutive HCE promoter was more efficient than inducible trc promoter for the expression of γ-PGA biosynthesis genes. DNA microarray analysis showed that the expression levels of several NtrC family genes, glnA, glnK, glnG, yhdX, yhdY, yhdZ, amtB, nac, argT and cbl were up-regulated and sucA, B, C, D genes were down-regulated. When (NH4)2SO4 was added at 40 g/l into the feeding solution, the final γ-PGA concentration reached 3.7 g/l in the fed-batch culture of recombinant E. coli/pCOpgs.  相似文献

A genomic library of Zymomonas mobilis DNA was constructed in Escherichia coli using cosmid vector pHC79. Immunological screening of 483 individual E. coli strains revealed two clones expressing pyruvate decarboxylase, the key enzyme for efficient ethanol production of Z. mobilis. The two plasmids, pZM1 and pZM2, isolated from both E. coli strains were found to be related and to exhibit a common 4.6 kb SphI fragment on which the gene coding for pyruvate decarboxylase, pdc, was located.The pdc gene was similarily well expressed in both aerobically and anaerobically grown E. coli cells, and exerted a considerable effect on the amount of fermentation products formed. During fermentative growth on 25 mM glucose, plasmid-free E. coli lacking a pdc gene produced 6.5 mM ethanol, 8.2 mM acetate, 6.5 mM lactate, 0.5 mM succinate, and about 1 mM formate leaving 10.4 mM residual glucose. In contrast, recombinant E. coli harbouring a cloned pdc gene from Z. mobilis completely converted 25 mM glucose to up to 41.5 mM ethanol while almost no acids were formed.  相似文献

The emissions of spruce grafts (Picea abies), caused by infestation of an acarid species of the genus Nalepella were investigated. Volatiles of three clones, both healthy and infested, with different susceptibility to the large pine weevil Hylobius abietis were collected by solid phase micro extraction (SPME) and analyzed by gas chromatograph coupled to mass-spectrometry (GC-MS). In addition, enantiomers of the main chiral compounds were separated by a two dimensional-gas chromatograph (2D-GC). In the characteristic flower-like fragrances emitted by the infested grafts large amounts of E-β-farnesene, E,E-α-farnesene, (−)-linalool, methyl salicylate and minute amounts of benzyl alcohol, E-anethole, methyl benzoate, neral and geranial were found. All together, these compounds could explain the characteristic scent emitted by the infested seedlings. In spite of the importance of chemoreception in intraspecific communication of lizards, only a few studies have examined chemical composition of secretions of lizards. The secretion of the femoral glands of adult male lizards Lacerta vivipara contains a relatively low number (18) of lipophilic compounds in comparison with other related lacertid lizards. These compounds were identified on the basis of mass spectra, obtained by GC-MS. Chemicals included ten steroids (mainly cholesterol) and four carboxylic acids between n-C12 and n-C18, and minor components such as squalene, α-tocopherol, and two waxy esters, which may contribute to avoid oxidation of other lipophilic components in the fairly humid environments occupied by this lizard. Secretions of adult males from oviparous and viviparous populations did not differ in the numbers and quality of chemical compounds, but there were some differences in the relative proportion of some compounds. Males from oviparous populations had lower proportions of hexadecanoic acid and cholestan-3-one, and higher proportions of squalene than viviparous males. These differences might be explained by either small genetic differences between types or due to different microclimatic conditions in the original populations.  相似文献

A study of lipids of the soil cyanobacterium Microcoleus vaginatus, which was isolated from microbial crusts collected in the Dead Sea basin and in the Negev desert, was performed. Twenty-six hydrocarbons and fatty acids were separated and identified by GC/MS using serially coupled capillary columns of different polarity. Changes in the lipid composition were evaluated by comparison of samples collected from different locations. Heptadecane, 1-heptadecene, 6- and 7-methylheptadecane, hexadecanoic and 9(Z)-octadecenoic acids were identified as the major constituents. Biochemical mechanisms of production of the different lipid compounds under UV irradiation are proposed.  相似文献

Pyrazole and propenone quinoxaline derivatives were tested against intracellular forms of Leishmania peruviana and Trypanosoma cruzi. Both series were tested for toxicity against proliferative and non-proliferative cells. The pyrazole quinoxaline series was quite inactive against T. cruzi; however, the compound 2,6-dimethyl-3-f-quinoxaline 1,4-dioxide was found to inhibit 50% of Leishmania growth at 8.9 μM, with no impact against proliferative kidney cells and with low toxicity against THP-1 cells and murine macrophages. The compounds belonging to the propenone quinoxaline series were moderately active against T. cruzi. Among these compounds, two were particularly interesting, (2E)-1-(7-fluoro-3-methyl-quinoxalin-2-yl)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxy-phenyl)-propenone and (2E)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxy-phenyl)-1-(3,6,7-trimethyl-quinoxalin-2-yl)-propenone. The former possessed selective activity against proliferative cells (cancer and parasites) and was inactive against murine peritoneal macrophages; the latter was active against Leishmania and inactive against the other tested cells. Furthermore, insilico studies showed that both series respected Lipinski’s rules and that they confirmed a linear correlation between trypanocidal activities and LogP. Docking studies revealed that compounds of the second series could interact with the poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase protein of Trypanosoma cruzi.  相似文献

It has been controversial how extensively ants contribute to pollination, and we evaluated the contribution of the Japanese carpenter ant, Camponotus japonicus, to the pollination of an orchid, Epipactis thunbergii. Two-year field studies revealed that (1) the ant workers foraged even in cool/cloudy conditions and accordingly visited orchid flowers more frequently (about 40% of all the visitors) than hover flies, the principle pollinators (10–20%), and that (2) the flower-visiting ants occasionally removed pollinia from the anther and then delivered pollen onto the stigmatic surface of other flowers, although self-pollination might frequently occur in the consecutive visits of flowers within an inflorescence. An artificial pollination experiment with pollinia which had been transferred to the ant integument showed that (3) the treated flowers produced as many fruits and seeds as control flowers. We concluded that C. japonicus workers could actually pollinate E. thunbergii flowers and their relative importance as pollinators appeared to be largely dependent on the abundance of flower-visiting workers or weather conditions during the flowering period, which mainly determined the availability of hover flies.  相似文献

Inconsistent results have been obtained on the population growth of Brachionus rotundiformis and Tigriopus japonicus, when results from single-species and two-species mixed cultures are compared. Bacteria growth was not regulated in these experiments, which could be the cause for this. In order to test this possibility, we conducted similar experiments under axenic and synxenic (with presence of one species of bacteria) conditions. The population growth of B. rotundiformis was suppressed by the presence of T. japonicus in axenic cultures. T. japonicus could not persist in axenic cultures, but its population increased when grown in synxenic cultures. T. japonicus used RT bacteria strain as a food source, while these bacteria were toxic to B. rotundiformis. These results suggest that bacteria can modify the interspecific relationship between B. rotundiformis and T. japonicus.  相似文献

In choice test experiments on strawberry leaf disc arenas the phytoseiid mites Neoseiulus californicus and N. cucumeris were more effective than Typhlodromus pyri as predators of the phytophagous mites Tetranychus urticae and Phytonemus pallidus. There were no preferences shown for either prey by any of these predators. In multiple predator leaf disc experiments both Phytoseiulus persimilis and N. cucumeris significantly reduced numbers of T. urticae eggs and active stages; this effect was seen when the two species were present alone or in combination with other predator species. Neoseiulus californicus was less effective at reducing T. urticae numbers, and T. pyri was not effective; no interaction between predator species was detected in these experiments. When T. urticae alone was present as prey on potted plants, P. persimilis and N. californicus were the only phytoseiids to significantly reduce T. urticae numbers. These two predator species provided effective control of T. urticae when P. pallidus was also present; however, none of the predators reduced numbers of P. pallidus. There were no significant negative interactions when different species of predators were present together on these potted plants. In field experiments, releases of both P. persimilis and N. cucumeris significantly reduced T. urticae numbers. However, there was a significant interaction between these predator species, leading to poorer control of T. urticae when both species were released together. These results show the importance of conducting predator/prey feeding tests at different spatial scales.  相似文献

A novel chemotype (C type) having a lemon-like odor segregated out in the F2 progeny of a cross between PK and PL chemotypes ofPerilla frutescens. Chemical analysis of C-type plants revealed that geranial was the major component of essential oils in the leaves. Genetic analysis suggested that geranial is accumulated by individuals homozygous for two pairs of recessive, polymeric genes,fr 1 andfr 2, which are incapable of converting geranial into perillene.  相似文献

1. Saprotrophic cord‐forming basidiomycetes are the primary agents of decomposition in forest ecosystems. Collembola and oribatid mites affect fungal growth and foraging, and therefore decomposition, through direct mycelial grazing. 2. Grazing on the fungal species Hypholoma fasciculare, Resinicium bicolor and Phanerochaete velutina by the collembola Folsomia candida, and the oribatid mites Steganacarus magnus, Euzetes globulus and Hermannia gibba was investigated in soil microcosms. 3. Folsomia candida grazed on all fungal species: radial extent of R. bicolor, hyphal coverage of all fungal species, and fractal dimension of R. bicolor and P. velutina were all reduced. Oribatid mites did not graze the fungi but did affect mycelial morphology. Steganacarus magnus caused a reduction in the radial extent of H. fasciculare, and the hyphal coverage and fractal dimension in both H. fasciculare and R. bicolor. Euzetes globulus and H. gibba reduced the hyphal coverage of P. velutina. 4. Oribatid mites are associated with a cornucopia of chemical secretions with possible anti‐fungal properties. Chemical analysis of H. gibba opisthonotal secretions revealed four main compounds, all of which are new to the known spectrum of opisthonotal components. The most abundant was (E)‐β‐farnesene. 5. Treatment effects were species‐specific in terms of both fungal and invertebrate species. This study provides the first evidence of non‐grazing effects of oribatid mites on fungal growth and morphology. This could potentially influence the spatial organisation of mycelium in forest soils and therefore the ability of fungi to locate, colonise and decompose dead organic matter.  相似文献

基于近年来分子系统学研究结果,石竹科无心菜属(Arenaria L.)齿瓣亚属[subgen.Odontostemma(G.Don)Williams]在属水平的地位得以恢复,该亚属中相关物种名也因此被组合至齿瓣无心菜属(Odontostemma Benth.ex G.Don)之中。然而,中国所产道孚无心菜(A.dawuensis A.J.LiQ.Ban)与神农架无心菜(A.shennongjiaensis Z.E.ZhaoZ.H.Shen)在相关处理中被遗漏,故在此给予其新的组合名称:O.dawuense(A.J.LiQ.Ban)G.Yao和O.shennongjiaense(Z.E.ZhaoZ.H.Shen)G.Yao。  相似文献
