The effect of nitrogen fertilization on Aphis gossypii Glover color and size, fertility, and intrinsic rate of increase (rm) was studied on cotton plants. Nitrogen fertilization treatments consisted of 0, 50, 100, and 150% of the agronomic recommended level. Adult and nymph densities, as well as rm, were positively correlated with nitrogen fertilization. Aphid body length, head width, and darkness of color were recorded in populations on cotton plants fertilized with 100% nitrogen or with no nitrogen fertilization. Aphids on nitrogen-fertilized plants were significantly bigger and darker. All body size and darkness of color measurements were positively correlated with aphid fecundity. It was also found that the nutritional quality of the host plant on which the parent generation feeds has a stronger effect on the aphids than that of the quality of their own food plants. This phenomenon may dampen the effect short-term fluctuations in host plant quality have on aphid performance. Results are discussed in the context of aphid population biology, aphid-plant interactions and aphid population management.  相似文献

Information on the effects of enriched CO2 on both the chemical composition of plants and the consequences of such changes for performance of a herbivore and its predator is an important first step in understanding the responses of plants and insects to global environmental change. We examined interactions across three trophic levels, cotton, Gossypium hirsutum, an aphid herbivore, Aphis gossypii Glover, and a coccinellid predator, Propylaea japonica (Thunberg), as affected by elevated CO2 concentrations and crop cultivars. Plant carbon:nitrogen (C:N) ratios, condensed tannin, and gossypol content were significantly higher, and nitrogen content was significantly lower in plants exposed to elevated CO2 levels compared with that in plants exposed to ambient CO2. Cotton aphid survivorship significantly increased and free fatty acid content decreased with increased CO2 concentrations. No significant differences in survival and lifetime fecundity of P. japonica were observed between cultivars and CO2 concentration treatments. However, stage-specific larval durations of the lady beetle were significantly longer when fed aphids from elevated CO2 concentrations. Our results indicate that high gossypol in the cotton host plant had an antibiotic effect on A. gossypii and produced a positive effect on growth and development of P. japonica at the third trophic level. However, elevated CO2 concentrations showed a negative effect on P. japonica. We speculate that A. gossypii may become a more serious pest under an environment with elevated CO2 concentrations because of increased survivorship of aphid and longer development time of lady beetle.  相似文献

Life table parameters of the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover, were estimated on five cotton cultivars (‘ Sealand' ,‘Siokra' ,' Vararnin' ,‘ Bakhtegan' and ‘ Sahel' ). Demographic parameters of the cotton aphid were assessed at 27.5 ± 1 ℃, 65% + 10% RH and a photoperiod of 14:10 (L: D)h. The shortest developmental time for the nymphal stages was 5.5 days on ‘Siokra' and the longest was 6.1 days on‘ Sealand'. The highest offspring per female was 29.6 on ‘Sahel' and the lowest was 15.3 on ‘Sealand'. The rm values varied from 0.272 on ‘Sealand' to 0.382 (day^-1) on ‘Varamin'. Jackknife estimates of the A. gossypii parameters on these cultivars indicated the greatest developmental rate and fecundity on ‘ Varamin' and the poorest on ‘ Sealand' cultivar.  相似文献

通过2年的田间研究,分析了3种不同施氮水平对棉花主要害虫棉玲虫、棉蚜种群动态、棉花蕾铃脱落及棉花产量的影响。结果表明,增施氮肥的棉田棉铃虫和棉蚜数量比对照田要高,但它们之间的差异没有达到显著的水平。不同年份对棉铃虫种群密度有显著影响,但对棉蚜种群没有显著影响。蕾花期施肥可减轻棉铃虫为害造成的花蕾脱落和自然脱落,增加有效铃数和产量,但增加量没有达到显著水平。  相似文献

有机农业棉田中棉蚜及其捕食性天敌的种群动态   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1  
采用定期目测棉叶上的棉蚜数量,用扫网法同步估测天敌种群数量,对有机农业棉田和常规棉田(对照)中棉蚜及其捕食性天敌的种群动态进行了比较。结果表明,有机棉田和常规棉田中棉蚜及其主要捕食性天敌种群动态差异显著。在2005年6~8月,有机棉田中棉蚜数量是常规棉田的4.17倍(P<0.05)。瓢虫成虫和幼虫的数量分别是常规棉田的3.22倍(P<0.01)和3.70倍(P>0.05);草蛉成虫和幼虫的数量分别是常规棉田的1.33倍(P>0.05)和3.00倍(P<0.05);食蚜蝇的数量是常规棉田的2.89倍(P>0.05),蜘蛛的数量是常规棉田的3.47倍(P<0.05)。因此,建议在有机农业棉花生产中,采用一些植物源杀虫剂辅助控制棉蚜。  相似文献

Tri-trophic impacts of transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) cotton GK12 and NuCOTN 99B were studied using a predator, the great lacewing Chrysopa pallens (Rambur), and its prey, the cotton aphid Aphis gossypii Glover, in laboratory feeding experiments. The parental nontransgenic cotton cultivar of GK12 was used as control. The predator was fed with uniform (aphids from a single cultivar) or mixed prey (aphids from the three cotton cultivars provided on alternate days). Mortality and development of the immature stages, pupal body mass, adult sex ratio, fecundity, and egg viability of C. pallens were measured. When fed GK12-originated aphid prey, pupal body mass of C. pallens was significantly higher than that of the control, more females emerged, and these females laid significantly more eggs. Other parameters were not impacted. Females emerging from larvae maintained on NuCOTN 99B-originated prey laid fewer eggs than those maintained on GK12. Other measurements did not differ significantly between the two Bt cotton cultivars. Compared with the control, mixed feeding significantly prolonged pupal development time and increased pupal body mass and percentage of females but did not affect other parameters. These results indicate that C. pallens is sensitive to aphid prey from different cotton cultivars. Transgenic Bt cotton GK12-originated aphid prey has no adverse impact on survival, development, and fecundity of C. pallens. Between the two Bt cotton cultivars, NuCOTN 99B-originated aphid prey provided to C. pallens in the larval stage may lower female fecundity. Mixed feeding of C. pallens with the two Bt cotton-originated prey and non-Bt prey may have some adverse impacts on pupal development.  相似文献

通过生活在甜瓜和棉花上的棉蚜Aphisgossypii Glover的行为,研究棉蚜的寄主专化型及其形成的行为机理。生物学观察显示: 两类棉蚜在寄主植物相互交换以后,定居数显著减少,棉花蚜型棉蚜的繁殖系数及若虫存活率显著下降,说明棉蚜存在甜瓜蚜型和棉花蚜型两种寄主专化型。通过刺探电位技术研究棉蚜的取食行为,以探索其寄主专化型形成的行为机理。结果表明: 甜瓜蚜型棉蚜在棉花上的取食行为容易被中断,但其口针定位韧皮部的能力并没有显著削弱;而棉花蚜型棉蚜在甜瓜上的取食行为受到更大的影响,口针无法顺利定位至韧皮部,并在2 h内根本无法在筛管内取食。生物学观察和EPG取食行为分析都显示: 与甜瓜蚜型棉蚜相比,棉花蚜型棉蚜对寄主的要求更严格-寄主专化程度更高,对寄主的利用率更高。  相似文献

Remote sensing can be used in combination with ground sampling to detect aphid- (Aphis gossypii Glover) infested cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Changes in wavelengths in the near-infrared (NIR) have proven useful for such detection, but these changes can be confused with other factors stressing plants, such as water deficiency and nutrient status. This study was designed to test the utility of this technology to distinguish between two factors stressing plants: nitrogen deficiency and aphids. Field plots were created by applying varying rates of nitrogen to cotton at different dates in the growing season in 2003 and 2004. Subplots were created by applying disruptive insecticides, which increased aphid populations in a portion of the subplots. Airplane and satellite remote sensing data in 2003 and 2004 were supplemented with ground sampling of aphid populations in both years. Insecticide application, nitrogen application rate and date influenced aphid abundance. Cotton with higher aphid populations could be distinguished from cotton with natural aphid infestations independent of plant nitrogen status using a NIR wavelength in 2003 and a proprietary 2004 index. Complex distinctions among varying nitrogen treatments and aphid abundance were not possible using this data. In the future, possible confounding factors should be investigated from the perspective of their change on crop physiology before remote sensing can be used in an integrated pest management (IPM) program.  相似文献

研究了龟纹瓢虫在棉花上对不同密度、不同空间分布、不同来源棉蚜的搜索与捕食行为.结果表明,龟纹瓢虫对棉蚜的搜索活动随棉蚜密度增加而下降;当棉花上有充足的棉蚜时,瓢虫主要搜索和捕食棉花上部的棉蚜,很少捕食棉花中部的棉蚜,极少捕食下部的棉蚜;瓢虫对棉花不同部位上分布的2种不同来源的棉蚜捕食量没有差异;但当棉花上部主要为美9101棉花棉蚜时,瓢虫的搜索活动明显下降.龟纹瓢虫的捕食行为与蚜虫密度和空间分布密切相关.  相似文献

The synthetic aphid alarm pheromone (E)-beta-farnesene (EBF) is released by aphids in response to predation or other disturbances that occur in the colony. This is presumed to benefit the population by allowing increased survival of related individuals taking successful evasive action after perception of the pheromone. The effect of pheromone perception by aphids in the absence of real threats was investigated to determine the baseline effect of this communication on aphid survival, development, and fecundity in the laboratory. All four nymphal stages of cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera: Aphididae), were stimulated with EBF. No significant difference in survival rates was observed in the aphids stimulated with EBF compared with the untreated control. Developmental times of the aphids were significantly prolonged in first and third instars when they were stimulated with EBF. Significantly lower fecundity and lighter weight of adult aphids were observed in aphids stimulated with EBF at as first instars compared with untreated controls and other instars. Results indicate that exposure of the first instar of A. gossipii to the synthetic alarm pheromone adversely affects subsequent development and fecundity of the population. This reduces aphid fitness that must be compensated by increased survival from predation for the pheromone to confer a selective advantage to the species.  相似文献

To assess biological control as a management tool for the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera: Aphididae), the efficacy of Aphidius colemani Viereck (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) for suppression of A. gossypii in greenhouse-grown chrysanthemums, Dendranthema grandiflora (Tzvelev), was compared with a pesticide standard, imidacloprid (Marathon 1% G) and an untreated check. No significant differences were found between aphid populations in the two treatments. A. colemani and imidacloprid kept aphid numbers very low, with the correspondent aphid populations exhibiting very low intrinsic rates of increase (r(m) = -0.0369 and r(m) = 0.0151, respectively), in contrast to the exponential growth of aphid populations (r(m) = 0.1085) observed on the untreated plants. Parasitism levels in A. colemani plots ranged from 48.93 to 83.38%. Esthetic damage parameters, including exuviae, honeydew, and sooty mold on leaves, were significantly different between treatments and untreated control, and damage levels were minimal with the insecticide treatment and natural enemy releases. The cost of A. colemani releases was 4.7 times greater than the cost of the imidacloprid treatment.  相似文献

通过田间调查、室内网罩盆栽苗测定选择性等方法,考察了常规棉(泗棉3号,石远321)、杂交抗虫棉(辽棉19号,鲁棉研18号)、转单价基因抗虫棉(国抗12号,中棉所32)和转双价抗虫棉(SGK321,中棉所41)4种类型8个品种棉花上棉蚜的适生性及种群动态。结果表明: 棉蚜在各棉花品种上的种群动态有明显差异(P<0.05),单株蚜量以转单价基因抗虫棉中棉32上最高,常规棉泗棉3号上最低,分别为297.81头/株和76.88头/株。棉蚜对4种类型棉花品种的选择性有明显差异(P<0.05),其中对转单价基因抗虫棉有很强的选择性。根据棉蚜实验种群的参数判断,其在不同品种棉花上的生长发育、存活及繁殖存在显著差异: 若虫发育历期常规棉石远321上最长(6.46天),双价棉中棉所41上最短(5.75天); 存活率转单价基因抗虫棉中棉32上最高(88.21%),双价棉SGK321上最低(76.46%); 单雌产蚜量杂交抗虫棉辽棉19上最大(44.48头),双价棉SGK321上最小(33.51头); 内禀增长率转单价基因抗虫棉中棉32上最高(0.3695),双价棉中棉所41上最低(0.3389)。综合评价,棉蚜的生存和繁殖适合性在转单价基因抗虫棉上最高,在双价棉上最低。  相似文献

Fifty cultivars of taro, Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott (Araceae), collected from islands in Micronesia and Polynesia, eight cultivars from the University of Hawaii's taro germplasm collection, and a closely related aroid, Xanthosorna sagittifolium (L.) (Araceae), were screened for antibiosis and antixenosis to Aphis gossypii Clover. Life history data for A. gossypii were collected by assessing survivorship and fecundity of aphids caged on taro leaves in the field. Significant differences in aphid reproductive rate and longevity were observed among the taro cultivars, and cultivars were ranked from most resistant to most susceptible. Antixenosis was assayed in the laboratory in a multiround choice test where A. gossypii were offered four leaf discs excised from different taro cultivars. Additionally, field observations of aphid abundance on taro cultivars were made to corroborate clip cage studies and laboratory experiments. 'Iliuaua','Rumung Mary','Maria', 'Ketan 36', and'Agaga' were the most resistant in terms of reducing aphid fecundity and survivorship, whereas the Iliuana,'Purple', 'TC-83001', and 'Putih 24' were least preferred in aphid choice tests. X. sagittifolium consistently exhibited strong aphid resistance. Resistant cultivars identified in this study may form the basis of breeding programs seeking to combine aphid resistance with other desirable agronomic traits in taro.  相似文献

The developmental time, survival and reproduction of the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Hom., Aphididae), were evaluated on detached cotton leaves at five constant and two alternating temperatures (15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 25/30, and 30/35°C). The developmental periods of the immature stages ranged from 12.0 days at 15°C to 4.5 days at 30°C. A constant temperature of 35°C was lethal to the immature stages of A. gossypii. The lower developmental threshold for the cotton aphid was estimated at 6.2°C and it required 108.9 degree-days for a first instar to become adult. The average longevity of adult females was reduced from 39.7 days at 15°C to 12.6 days at 30/35°C. The average reproduction rate per female was 51.5 at 25/30°C and 20.9 at 30/35°C. Mean generation time of the population ranged from 10.4 days at 30°C to 24.5 days at 15°C. The largest per capita growth rate ( r m = 0.413) occurred at 30°C, the smallest at 15°C ( r m = 0.177). It was evident that temperatures over 30°C prolonged development, increased the mortality of the immature stages, shortened adult longevity, and reduced fecundity. The optimal range of temperature for population growth of A. gossypii on cotton was 25/30–30°C.  相似文献

昆虫组织蛋白酶B在昆虫代谢中发挥着重要作用。本研究从棉蚜Aphis gossypii Glover的转录组数据库中挑选Cath B并克隆得到全长cDNA序列,使用qRT-PCR分析这些基因在不同寄主专化型棉蚜不同龄期中的相对表达量。通过分析棉蚜体内5个高表达组织蛋白酶B基因不同发育阶段的表达谱,比较了不同专化型棉蚜在寄主转换之后的表达差异。研究发现,这5个基因在不同龄期不同寄主上均表达。棉花型棉蚜在棉花寄主上不同基因间的表达各不相同。黄瓜型棉蚜在黄瓜Cucumis sativus L.上AgCb-1、AgCb-2、AgCb-3基因均在成蚜时期表达量相对较高,AgCb-4、AgCb-5基因表达量则与之相反。分别将棉花型棉蚜和黄瓜型棉蚜转接到西葫芦Cucurbita pepo L.上后,棉花型棉蚜AgCb-1、AgCb-4基因和黄瓜型棉蚜AgCb-1、AgCb-2、AgCb-3基因均在成蚜不同时期的表达量显著大于转接前。结果表明:AgCb-1、AgCb-2、AgCb-3、AgCb-4、AgCb-5基因表达量伴随着棉蚜的生长发育以及寄主的转换,表现出不同的差异。说明组织蛋白酶在棉蚜对寄主植物的适应性过程中可能发挥作用。  相似文献

Knowledge of the vertical and horizontal distribution of Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on genetically modified cotton plants over time could help optimize decision-making in integrated cotton aphid management programs. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the vertical and horizontal distribution of A. gossypii in non-transgenic Bt cotton and transgenic Bt-cotton over time during two cotton seasons by examining plants throughout the seasons. There was no significant interaction between years and cotton cultivar treatments for apterous or alate aphids. Considering year-to-year data, analyses on season-long averages of apterous or alate aphids showed that aphid densities per plant did not differ among years. The number of apterous aphids found per plant for the Bt transgenic cultivar (2427 apterous aphids per plant) was lower than for its isoline (3335 apterous aphids per plant). The number of alate aphids found per plant on the Bt transgenic cultivar (12.28 alate aphids per plant) was lower than for the isoline (140.56 alate aphids per plant). With regard to the vertical distribution of apterous aphids or alate aphids, there were interactions between cotton cultivar, plant age and plant region. We conclude that in comparison to non-Bt cotton (DP 4049), Bt cotton (DP 404 BG (Bollgard)) has significant effects on the vertical, horizontal, spatial and temporal distribution patterns of A. gossypii, showing changes in its distribution behaviour inside the plant as the cotton crop develops. The results of our study are relevant for understanding the vertical and horizontal distribution of A. gossypii on Bt cotton cultivar (DP 404 BG (Bollgard)) and on its isoline (DP 4049), and could be useful in decision-making, implementing controls and determining the timing of population peaks of this insect.  相似文献

【目的】研究取食转Bt+CpTI基因棉花的棉蚜Aphis gossypii Glover对普通草蛉Chrysopa carnea Stephens生长发育及繁殖力的影响,为转Bt基因抗虫棉花的推广和应用提供理论支持。【方法】普通草蛉取食转Bt+CpTI棉花SKG321和对照品种石远321棉花上的棉蚜后,对普通草蛉生长发育情况进行研究,并对其幼虫、蛹的存活率和成虫的羽化率及产卵量进行分析。【结果】取食转Bt+CpTI棉花上的棉蚜对普通草蛉的各龄幼虫发育历期、蛹期和产卵前期无不利影响;处理与对照间各龄幼虫存活率、蛹的存活率和成虫羽化率之间没有显著差异;取食转Bt+CpTI棉花上棉蚜的普通草蛉单雌日产卵量与对照相比没有减少,而25 d内的单雌总产卵量与对照相比差异亦不显著。【结论】取食转Bt+CpTI棉花上的棉蚜对普通草蛉的生长发育及繁殖力无负面影响。  相似文献

The effects of three cotton cultivars with low ('ZMZ13'), medium ('HZ401'), and high ('M9101') gossypol contents on the development, reproduction, and survival of Aphis gossypii Glover and its predator Propylaea japonica (Thunberg) were investigated. Developmental duration and immature survivorship did not vary between aphids on the three cultivars, whereas A. gossypii feeding on M9101 (high gossypol cultivar) displayed significantly shorter adult longevity and lower fecundity than aphids fed on 'ZMS13' and 'HZ401'. Free fatty acid content in cotton aphids reared on 'M9101' was greater than in those reared on 'HZ401' and 'ZMS13'. No significant differences in survival and lifetime fecundity of P. japonica were observed between P. japonica fed cotton aphids reared on the three different cultivars. P. japonica fed aphids from 'M9101' showed a significantly shorter developmental period and greater adult weight than those fed aphids from the other two cultivars. The decreased larval developmental duration and increased adult weight of P. japonica fed cotton aphids reared on the high gossypol-containing cultivar might have been caused by the high fatty acid content of the prey aphids. Our results indicate that high gossypol in host cotton had an antibiotic effect on A. gossypii and showed a positive effect on growth and development of P. japonica at the third trophic level. This suggests compatibility between one form of host plant resistance and biological control by predators. The allelochemical contents should be taken into account in integrated pest management for their effects on both herbivores and entomophagous insects.  相似文献
