Questions: How are heathland vegetation dynamics affected by different goat grazing management? Location: Cantabrian heathlands in Illano, Asturias, northern Spain. Methods: During 4 years, vegetation dynamics (structural composition, canopy height and floristic diversity) were studied under three goat grazing treatments with three replicates: high stocking rate (11.7 goats ha?1) with a local Celtiberic breed, and high (15 goats ha?1) and low (6.7 goats ha?1) stocking rates with a commercial Cashmere breed. Results: The relative cover of woody plants, particularly heather species, decreased more while herbaceous cover increased more under local Celtiberic than under Cashmere breed grazing. Within Cashmere treatments, the cover and height of live shrubs decreased more and the herbaceous cover increased more under high than under low stocking rate. Redundancy analysis showed a significant effect of treatment × year interaction on floristic composition. Greater species richness was recorded under local goat grazing, but Shannon diversity index fell in the fourth year on these plots because of dominance by two grass species. Conclusions: Local Celtiberic goat grazing at such a high stocking rate (11.7 goats ha?1) hinders the development of sustainable systems on these heathlands, both in environmental and productive terms, owing to the limitations in soil fertility. Nevertheless, Celtiberic goats could be useful for controlling excessive shrub encroachment and reducing fire hazard. Cashmere goat grazing at high stocking rate promoted the highest Shannon diversity by generating a better balance between woody and herbaceous plants, while shrub dominance was not altered under the low stocking rate.  相似文献

Research on ecosystems patterns and dynamics is critical for understanding the regional problems of resources and environment. In this study, based on the technology of RS and GIS, the composition, patterns and dynamics of the ecosystems in Haihe river basin during 1990–2005 were analyzed using landscape indices including the area of average patches, aggregation index and Shannon–Weaver diversity index. According to the development situation of economy and society in Haihe river basin, some driving factors for dynamics of ecosystems patterns were concluded based on correlation analysis. Results showed that the ecosystems patterns in Haihe river basin changed greatly from 1990 to 2005. The area of urban and grassland increased, but farmland, forest and wetland decreased. As for landscape indices, the area of average patches, value of aggregation index, clump index and diversity index all increased, indicating the trend of evenness for the whole ecosystems. Growth of population, economy growth together with urbanization and policy were the main driving factors for dynamics of ecosystem pattern in this basin.  相似文献

The present work aims to study the effect of deferring grazing on the floristic diversity of Stipa tenacissima Loefl. ex L. rangelands in the central Algerian steppe in two different bioclimatic stages, namely semi‐arid and arid. This work is part of a perspective to know the floristic characteristics of an area excluded from grazing and an unrestricted rangeland, in two different environments in order to highlight the factors that are conceivably responsible for the diversification of flora in the steppe ecosystems. In the present study, a number of 96 floristic surveys were performed during the spring season of the years 2014, 2015 and 2016. The methodology adopted is a subjective sampling. The minimum area retained is 100 m2 defined by the method of Braun Blanquet and de Bolos (1957, Annales Estacion Experimental de Aula Dei, 5, 266). This method has been used to study the floristic diversity represented by the floristic richness, Shannon index, the equitability, the biological and the phytochoric type. The climatic correction according to the altitudinal gradient was applied to determine the bioclimatic stage. The results from the surveys indicate that the rangelands at the studied sites contain 109 species, 27 families and 63 genera out of which 79 species and 22 families are in the semi‐arid bioclimatic stage. A two‐way analysis of variance was employed to examine the effect of the bioclimatic stage and the pasture land put at rest. Variance analysis of the diversity indices showed that the bioclimatic stage has a significant impact on the floristic richness and flora diversity of the S. tenacissima steppe (p ≤ 0.01) with a 5% threshold; on the other hand, the protection of these ecosystems does not have a remarkable influence on the floristic diversity (p > 0.05). In recent years, climatic disturbances have resulted in changes in vegetation, even in rested areas located between the study localities.  相似文献

在青藏高原东北缘高寒草甸设置6个放牧强度样地,连续4年研究10个多样性指数(Richness和Abundance 2个实测指数,优势度指数、均匀度指数、丰富度指数和综合指数各2个)对放牧强度和年限影响植物群落的解释能力.结果表明: 相对于重要值,利用多度计算的多样性指数对放牧干扰更敏感.优势度指数(Berger-Parker、Dominance)与放牧强度和年限均无关,不能将放牧干扰对群落优势种的影响有效区分.均匀度指数(Equitability、Evenness)均与放牧强度无关,但Evenness指数与放牧年限呈显著负相关,不受偶见种影响且与物种多度的变异系数呈显著正相关,在基于时间尺度的均匀度比较中可以选择Evenness指数.丰富度指数(Menhinick、Margalef)均与放牧年限无关,但Margalef指数与放牧强度呈显著正相关,且不受偶见种影响.综合指数(Shannon、Simpson)均与放牧强度无关,但Shannon指数与物种丰富度和多度呈显著正相关,且随放牧年限增加而显著升高,不受偶见种影响,Shannon指数可用于在长时间尺度下比较物种多样性变化.在所有多样性指数中,只有实测物种丰富度和多度均与放牧强度呈显著负相关,与放牧年限呈显著正相关,且不受偶见种影响,故实测物种丰富度和多度相结合可作为放牧干扰下多样性比较的首选指标.此外,多样性指数选择须考虑放牧干扰的强度与时间特征、多样性组分和研究目的.  相似文献

Managed grasslands are normally ecosystems with high species diversity. They are associated with traditional extensive livestock grazing. Land-use changes, in particular gradual abandonment or grazing intensification, lead to major changes in floristic patterns of these grasslands, some included in priority habitats of the EU Habitats Directive. In order to analyse these patterns of change, Mediterranean grasslands of eastern areas of mainland Portugal were studied aiming to: (1) establish ecological gradients underlying their floristic patterns; (2) examine the relative importance of both environmental and land-use factors on their floristic composition; (3) assess how floristic composition and species richness are affected by land-use factors. Vegetation sampling was carried out from 2008 to 2009 following phytosociological procedures. Canonical Correspondence Analysis was applied. Variation partitioning was used to assess the relative influence of land-use variables. Richness, legumes cover, endemic species and bryophytes cover were compared in four land-management regimes: unmanaged; extensive grazing by sheep; extensive grazing by cattle and sheep; frequent soil tillage. Significant differences were found in floristic and diversity patterns, revealing the importance of grazing as a management tool for maintaining or improving floristic diversity. From our findings slight extensive grazing can contribute to both maintenance of species diversity and to the increase in legumes cover and thus to palatability and economic value of studied grasslands. Interactions between herbivores and grasslands, considering also their influences on soil properties, have an important role in the equilibrium states which promote biodiversity and conservation of the services of these ecosystems.  相似文献

Scattered trees are considered keystone structures and play an important role in Mediterranean sylvopastoral systems. Such systems are associated with high biodiversity and provide important natural resources and ecosystem services. In this study, we measured the contribution of scattered trees and different grazing management (cattle, sheep and wildlife only) to the diversity of the grassland sward in a dehesa (open holm oak woodland) located in Central Spain. We analyzed alpha and beta diversity through measurement of species richness, Shannon-Wiener, and Whittaker indices, respectively; and the floristic composition of the herb layer using subplots within two adjacent plots (trees present vs. trees absent) under three different grazing management regimes, including wildlife only, during a year. We found a 20–30% increment in the alpha diversity of wooded plots, compared to those without trees, regardless of grazing management. All beta indices calculated showed more than 60% species turnover. Wooded plots were occupied by different herbaceous species in different heterogeneous microsites (under the canopy, in the ecotone or on open land) created by the trees. Livestock grazing modified species composition (e.g. more nitrophilous species) compared to wildlife only plots. In addition to all their other benefits, trees are important to maintaining grassland diversity in Mediterranean dehesas.  相似文献

根据物种丰富度、Shannon指数和Simpson指数建立的物种多样性分配方法,提出分异度系数,对天童森林公园内不同森林类型的树种多样性进行了分析.结果表明,基于物种丰富度指数,总体的多样性只有小部分归功于样方内多样性,而多样性大多分配在样方间、亚群丛间或群丛间,例如在木荷-栲树群丛中,样方内只贡献了20.3%的物种丰富度.而在Shannon指数和Simpson指数中,多样性大多分配在样方内.这种差异主要是由于后两种指数不仅考虑了物种的存在与否,也考虑了其在样方内的多度.同时比较分析了加性分配与传统方法的结果.  相似文献

王指山热带山地雨林的物种种类十分丰富,在1hm^2样地中共出现54个科,100个属的乔木树种177种,1337个个体。区系地理分析表明属的分布区类型以热带分布型成分占优,为89.0%,充分体现了五指山山地雨林的热带性质。多样性指数分析结果为:样地1Margalef指数17.822,Shannon-Wiener指数5.621,均匀度0.823,Simpson指数0.050,均匀度6.775,表明五指  相似文献

The genetic variability of Lotus corniculatus, a common and important fodder legume, was studied in relation to habitat type and to species diversity at a local level. The study was conducted in Cholomontas mountain, northern Greece, at altitudes of 760–870 m. Genetic material was selected from four forested, at the edge of forest, and four open grassland sites, and was studied with the aid of ISSR molecular markers. The plant cover at each study site was measured and the floristic composition was estimated. The percentage of graminoides increased in grassland sites with high grazing intensity, while the abundance of legumes, including L. corniculatus, forbs and woody species, increased in forested sites with low grazing intensity. Gene diversity HE within the studied populations of L. corniculatus ranged from 0.167 to 0.213 and Shannon index (I) from 0.269 to 0.340. Genetic differentiation was detected between habitats as well as among the populations in each habitat, although it was low, 3% and 7% respectively. However, genetic differentiation was significant within the populations (90%). Genetic diversity of L. corniculatus was not correlated with species diversity (richness and evenness) either within or between populations, while was negatively correlated with L. corniculatus abundance.  相似文献

The floristic composition and structure of a premontane moist forest remnant were studied in the El Rodeo Protected Zone, Central Valley of Costa Rica. Three one-hectare plots were established in the non-disturbed forest, and all trees with a diameter at breast height (dbh) of 10 cm or greater were marked, measured and identified. The plots were located within a radius of 500 m from each other. A total of 106 tree species were recorded in the three plots. Average values: species richness 69.6 species ha-1, abundance 509 individuals ha-1, basal area 36.35 m2 ha-1. Total diversity was 3.54 (Shannon Index, H'), and the species similarity among the plots ranged between S = 0.68 and 0.70 (S?rensen Similarity Index). Most tree species are represented by few individuals (five or less). There is a lack of emergent trees and arborescent palms in the forest canopy. According to the Familial Importance Value, Moraceae, followed by Fabaceae, Lauraceae, and Sapotaceae, largely dominates this forest. Pseudolmedia oxyphillaria (Moraceae) is the dominant species (Importance Value Index), accounting for 25% of all the marked trees in the plots, followed by Clarisia racemosa (Moraceae), Heisteria concinna (Olacaceae), and Brosimum alicastrum (Moraceae). The size class distributions were similar among plots, and in general followed the expected J-inverted shape. Differences in tree abundance, floristic composition, and spatial distribution of some species among the plots suggest heterogeneity of this ecosystem's arborescent vegetation. Moreover, it is an important natural reservoir for the conservation of rare and endangered tree species in a national level. Using these results as a baseline, this study should start a long term monitoring of the structure and composition of this very reduced and fragmented ecosystem.  相似文献

Bacterial diversity in solar salterns and a simulated solar saltern under laboratory conditions was studied. The two systems were compared at the pre-salt harvesting phase and salt harvesting phase using Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE). Bacterial composition was dominated by Gammaproteobacteria and more specifically with members of Alteromonas, Vibrio, Pseudomonas, Tolumonas, Marinobacter, Pseudoalteromonas and novel uncultured bacteria. The Shannon–Weaver index (H), Simpson diversity index (D) and Equitability index (E) values showed that salterns can support a wide range of microbes during the pre-salt harvesting phase (3–4 % salinity) when compared to the salt harvesting phase (21–29 % salinity). Range-weighted richness (Rr) values indicated that solar salterns are habitable only by a limited group of microbes as they have medium richness, indicated by physico-chemical characteristics. Principal Coordinate Analysis (PCO) of the simulated study showed a variation in diversity at a large scale with increase in salinity. Solar salterns as well as the simulated tank showed more diversity during the pre-salt harvesting phase.  相似文献

The understanding of the determinants of small mammal community structure in arid and semiarid ecosystems is of importance, both in the light of the role that small mammals play, and the impact of livestock grazing on the flora of these systems. In a study aimed at identifying these determinants, small mammal assemblages and environmental features were quantified at six localities (a gradient of floristic structure, with constant annual rainfall) across the southern Karoo, South Africa. Stepwise variable regression indicated that small mammal diversity was correlated with plant and rock cover, as well as plant cover and horizontal foliage diversity at intermediate heights (40–60 cm). Initially, small mammal diversity increased with increasing plant cover, but decreased at cover levels greater than 30%. This relationship is similar to that found in other desert systems, although the peak in diversity found here is at higher levels of plant cover than found previously. I suggest that this higher peak may be owing to the lack of reliance on granivory by these animals, which are relatively omnivorous. This model may therefore explain the conflicting reports on the impact of livestock grazing on desert small mammals, with small mammal diversity decreasing with grazing below the peak, and increasing with grazing above the peak.  相似文献

In the literature, the terms species richness and species diversity are sometimes used interchangeably. We suggest that at the very least, authors should define what they mean by either term. Of the many species diversity indices used in the literature, the Shannon Index is perhaps most commonly used. On some occasions it is called the Shannon–Wiener Index and on other occasions it is called the Shannon–Weaver Index. We suggest an explanation for this dual use of terms and in so doing we offer a tribute to the late Claude Shannon (who passed away on 24 February 2001).  相似文献

Dehesa ecosystems on granite and on slate clearly differ in soil characteristics. Our aim was to find out whether floristic composition differed too.we selected an equal number of plots, on both granite and slate, in different successional stages of development and at various ages after field abandonment (the youngest 15–20 years). Plots with rock-outcrops, which had never been cultivated, were also included in the study.The results showed that floristic differences between granite and slate communities were not detectable in the younger successional stages. However, they showed up with time and on stabilized grasslands became significant. But on plots with rock-outcrops the differences were not observable. This was undoubtedly influenced by the peculiar features of these plots, characterised by poor arid soils and surface parent material. In fact they did not show significant differences in the analysed soil parameters either.Species diversity and biomass showed a similar pattern of differences to floristic composition. The highest species diversity was found on plots with lower biomass (the youngest ones). The lowest biomass in conjunction with quite low species diversity was found on plots with rock-outcrops, which again is consistent with their peculiar features.  相似文献

为研究高寒草甸大型土壤动物群落组成和分布对环境因子的响应,选取祁连山东段的甘肃省天祝县高原鼢鼠典型分布区域,以鼠丘密度代表干扰强度设置4个干扰区。调查各干扰区植被群落特征、土壤理化性质、大型土壤动物类群组成及其数量,采用约束性排序方法分析环境因子对大型土壤动物类群组成和分布的影响。结果表明:高原鼢鼠干扰下高寒草甸大型土壤动物优势类群为瓦娄蜗牛科、象甲科和短角亚目幼虫;极重度干扰区大型土壤动物类群的丰度、丰富度、Shannon指数显著高于重度干扰区(P<0.05);多元回归分析表明大型土壤动物类群丰度、丰富度和Shannon指数与土壤温度呈显著负相关(P<0.05),丰富度与土壤含水量呈显著负相关(P<0.05),丰度与土壤紧实度呈显著负相关(P<0.05),丰富度和Shannon指数与植物Shannon指数呈显著负相关(P<0.05);冗余分析和偏冗余分析表明,土壤温度、紧实度和含水量是影响高寒草甸大型土壤动物类群组成和分布的主要环境因子。  相似文献

Ecological restoration provides a means to increase biodiversity in ecosystems degraded by natural and human‐induced changes. In some systems, disturbances such as grazing can be key factors in the successful restoration of biodiversity and ecological function, but few studies have addressed this experimentally, especially over long time periods and at landscape scales. In this study, we excluded livestock grazing from plots within a grassland landscape containing vernal pools in the Central Valley of California for 10 years and compared vernal pool hydrology and plant community composition with areas grazed under an historic regime. In all 10 years, the relative cover of native plant species remained between 5 and 20% higher in the grazed versus ungrazed plots. This effect was particularly prominent on the pool edges, though evidence of invasion into the pool basins was evident later in the study. Native species richness was lower in the ungrazed plots with 10–20% fewer native species found in ungrazed versus grazed plots in all years except the first year of treatment. Ungrazed pools held water for a shorter period of time than pools grazed under an historic regime. By the ninth year of the study, ungrazed pools took up to 2 weeks longer to fill and dried down 1–2 weeks sooner at the end of the rainy season compared to grazed pools. The results of this study confirm that livestock grazing plays a key role in maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem function in vernal pools.  相似文献

The preservation of the floristic diversity of natural ecosystems and the maintenance of extensive livestock grazing are two of the major priorities of European Union agricultural and environmental policies. Temperate natural and seminatural grasslands are among the most threatened ecosystems in Europe. In order to establish the most appropriate management practices that prevent degradation and maintain the richness of these ecosystems, detailed analyses of the mechanisms that regulate biodiversity of the communities are particularly necessary. In this study we make a comparative analysis of the species richness and the diversity of the main rangeland communities in a widespread, heterogeneous area located in the Western Spanish Pyrennees. The nature and the contribution of perennials and annuals to the diversity patterns encountered are studied and related to the mechanisms suggested to regulate diversity in each case. Higher diversity values were reported in more environmentally stressed, xeric and moist communities. High spatial and temporal heterogeneity and low rates of competitive displacement related to the scarcity of basic resources are among the factors suggested to regulate the diversity of these communities. In areas where environmental factors are more favorable, such as perennial-dominated mesic rangelands, the enhancement of the diversity seemed more dependent on biotic disturbances, such as herbivory, that decreased the cover of perennials and favored the recruitment of short-lived species. Dispersal processes related to traditional nomadic grazing allow a flow of species from one rangeland to another but also enhance the establishment of species coming from lowland habitats. Most of the annuals enhancing the diversity of the mesic community were ruderals. The consideration of ruderals as exotics or as species belonging to this grazing ecosystem poses an interesting, controversial topic related to the ecological quality of the diversity estimated for these communities.  相似文献

Question: Does grazing by large herbivores affect species composition or community‐wide variation in plant functional traits? Location: Dune grasslands at the Belgian coast. Methods: Plant cover and soil data were collected in 146 plots that were randomly selected at 26 grazed and ungrazed grassland sites. Plant community composition was assessed by Detrended Correspondence Analysis and mean values of plant trait categories were calculated across the plots. Results: Differentiation of plant composition and community‐wide plant trait characteristics was largely determined by grazing, soil acidity and their interaction. In ungrazed situations, a clear floristic distinction appears between acidic (non‐calcareous) and alkaline (calcareous) grasslands. In grazed situations, these floristic differences largely disappeared, indicating that grazing results in a decrease of natural variation in species composition. At higher soil pH, a larger difference in plant community composition and community‐wide plant traits was observed between grazed and ungrazed plots. In ungrazed situations, shifts in plant functional traits along the acidity gradient were observed. Conclusions: Grazing is responsible for shifts in plant community composition, and hence a decrease in plant diversity among grasslands at opposing acidity conditions in coastal dune grasslands. Therefore, care should be taken when introducing grazing as a system approach for nature conservation in dune grasslands as it may eliminate part of the natural variation in plant diversity along existing abiotic gradients.  相似文献

Abstract. Grazing by domestic livestock in native woodlands can have major effects on ecosystem functioning by the removal of plant species that form important functional groups. This paper documents the changes in floristics in a large group of remnants of native woodland left after agricultural clearing in southwestern Australia. Species richness and diversity were significantly reduced in remnants and the proportion of exotic species increased. Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) was used to identify floristic and environmental patterns among plots and identified two distinct groups based on grazing intensity. This indicated that the significance of the relationship between grazing effects and DCA floristic axes was greater than edaphic characteristics that normally influence floristic patterns. Floristic characteristics of sites that were influencing the position of plots on the ordination diagram included proportion of exotic species and proportion of native perennial shrubs and herbs. Numbers of species of native shrubs and perennial herbs were significantly reduced in grazed plots and numbers of exotic annual grasses and herbs were significantly higher. Other life form groups such as native perennial grasses and geophytes were not significantly affected by grazing. Reproductive strategies of perennial species showed a significant decrease in numbers of resprouters and a significant increase in numbers of facultative seeder/sprouters. Exclosure plots showed increases in number and cover of perennial shrubs and herbs after three years whereas number and cover of exotic species did not change. Time series DCA showed that the floristic composition of exclosure plots in grazed sites became closer to that of the ungrazed sites.  相似文献
