The Aphelocheirid Bugs of China (Heteroptera: Aphelocheiridae)

A total of 14 species of genus Aphelocheirus Westw. from China are listed in this paper. One new species, Aphelocheirus brunneus sp. n., is described from Hubei Province. Aphelocheirus carinatus (Royer, 1920) is reported from China for the first time. The type specimens are deposited in the Department of Biology, Nankai University, Tianjin (300071), China.     

Indirect Monitoring of Agonistic Encounters in Larvae of Lestes viridis (Odonata: Lestidae) Using Exuviae Lamellae Status

Differences in interference competition between larvae of the damselfly Lestes viridis (Vander Linden) were examined using caudal lamellae status of exuviae. Exuviae from a small temporary fishless pond near Antwerp (Belgium) where L.viridis was the only odonate present were studied. No lamellae loss during emergence was seen. Therefore, the lamellae status of the exuviae reflects the lamellae status of the final instar larvae. The deviations of the distribution of the number of missing lamellae per individual from a binomial distribution suggested that lamellae are not always lost separately or that some animals are more prone to agonistic encounters. I found no difference in agonistic encounters between sexes. In accordance with the hypothesis of Pierce et al. (1985) interference competition was higher in the lestid species inhabiting small, temporary fishless ponds than in the coenagrionid damselfly Ischnura posita inhabiting large permanent fish containing water bodies that was studied by Robinson et al. (1991).

Two new species of the stonefly genus Amphinemura (Insecta,Plecoptera, Nemouridae) from China

Two new species of the genus Amphinemura Ris from China are described and illustrated, i.e. A. annulata Du & Ji, sp. n. from Zhejiang, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Guizhou Province, and A. lingulata Du & Wang, sp. n. from Shaanxi and Sichuan Province. A. annulata is similar to A. tricintusidens Wang & Zhu in having an apical cavity of the epiproct, but the epiproct ventral sclerite and the median paraproct lobe of the two species are different. A. lingulata is related to A. didyma Zhu & Yang in having the similar epiproct, but they differ mostly in paraproct median and outer lobes.     

Two New Tanytarsus Species (Diptera: Chironomidae) from Brazil,with Reduced Median Volsella

The male adults Tanytarsus monospinosus sp. n. and Tanytarsus tumultuarius sp. n. from Brazil are described as new to science, and the species Tanytarsus abnormis Lehmann is transferred to Neostempellina Reiss. The species share the reduction of the median volsella, a genital feature well developed amongst most species of Tanytarsini. There are no obvious close relatives amongst previously described Tanytarsus species, and a thorough phylogenetic analysis including the immature stages will be necessary. However, because there are large differences between these two new species in most morphological characters, it can be assumed that they are not closely related, and the loss of the median volsella thus is unlikely to be a synapomorphy.

新疆倍叉(虫责)属一新种记述(襀翅目:叉(虫责)科)

本文记述了采自新疆喀纳斯的倍叉[虫责]属Amphinemura 1新种：环齿倍叉[虫责]Amphinemura tricintusidens Wang＆Zhu,sp．nov。根据肛侧突中叶端部有3或4个环绕的小齿和肛上突背骨片端部形成的圆形腔可将该新种与其它种类相区别。正模♂,新疆喀纳斯,2005-Ⅷ—01,朱江艳等采。副模1♂,采集资料同正模。新种的模式标本保存在扬州大学昆虫标本馆。     

Live cycles,drift, and standing stocks of some stoneflies (Insecta: Plecoptera) from streams in Minnesota,U.S.A.

From analyses of monthly length frequency distributions of stonefly (Plecoptera) nymphs from stream riffles, two types of univoltine life cycles (Hynes 1961, classification) were observed: slow seasonal forIsoperla transmarina, Isoperla signata, Isogenoides olivaceus, andAllocapnia rickerii, and fast seasonal forProstoia similis. The Perlodidae stoneflies (Isoperla andIsogenoides) showed greatest propensities to drift near the end of their life cycles. Drift rates of the other two species of stoneflies were correlated to standing stock estimates.     

A review of the Nearctic genus Prostoia (Ricker) (Plecoptera,Nemouridae), with the description of a new species and a surprising range extension for P. hallasi Kondratieff & Kirchner

The Nearctic genus Prostoia (Plecoptera: Nemouridae) is reviewed. Prostoia ozarkensis sp. n. is described from the male and female adult stages mainly from the Interior Highland region encompassing portions of Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Prostoia ozarkensis sp. n. appears most closely related to two species, one distributed broadly across the western Nearctic region, P. besametsa (Ricker), and one found widely throughout the central and eastern Nearctic regions, P. completa (Walker). A surprising range extension is noted for P. hallasi Kondratieff & Kirchner, a species once known only from the Great Dismal Swamp, from small upland streams in southern Illinois. Additional new state records are documented for P. besametsa, P. completa, P. hallasi and P. similis (Hagen). Taxonomic keys to Prostoia males and females are provided, and scanning electron micrographs of adult genitalia of all species are given.     

THREE NEW SPECIES OF AMPHINEMURA (PLECOPTERA: NEMOURIDAE) FROM TIBET, CHNA

Abstract Three new species from Tibet are described: Amphinemura yangi, A. lii and A. tibetensis. Their relationships with the relative species are discussed. A key to the species of the genus Amphinemura from Tibet is presented. The types are deposited in the Insect Collection of China Agricultural University.
