Dolomitized burrows in the Mississippian (Visean) Debolt Formation of northwestern Alberta, Canada form the primary reservoir intervals in the Dunvegan gas field. Sedimentological and ichnological analyses suggest a carbonate ramp setting that includes subenvironments such as sabkhas, hypersaline lagoons, restricted subtidal lagoons, intertidal mud flats, and peloidal shoals. Dolomitization occurs primarily within oxidized muds and highly bioturbated sediments, with the primary mode being sabkha-associated precipitation. In this context, dolomitization within the burrows also appears to be mediated by sulfate-reducing bacteria. δ18O values for dolomite within burrows (mean 2.4‰) are enriched by 1.3‰ relative to calcite values (mean 1.1‰) within the burrows. This degree of fractionation is similar for dolomite and calcite that have precipitated from the same solution. It is therefore suggested that the protodolomite precipitated in equilibrium with calcite rather than by replacement of pre-existing calcite. Isotopic values of δ13C measured for dolomite associated with burrows (mean 3.4‰) and matrix (mean 3.5‰) is slightly enriched relative to measured calcite values (mean 3.2‰ for matrix; mean 3.1‰ for burrows). These isotopic trends are common for modern dolomite that has precipitated in equilibrium with seawater where concomitant sulfate reduction and organic carbon-oxidation is inferred to occur near the surface.  相似文献

Open habitats dominated by herbaceous plants on thin, rocky soils occur within the forests of eastern North America. Although these habitats vary in origin, structure, geology, and species composition, all contribute greatly to regional biodiversity by harboring endemic and/or rare plants. Little is known about how disturbances affect plant populations in these ecosystems. Fire once was a frequent natural disturbance in the Ketona dolomite glades of Alabama, an ecosystem harboring eight endemic taxa and numerous other species of conservation concern. We designed an experiment to determine how the reintroduction of fire into the glades and surrounding longleaf pine forests affects populations of rare glade plant species. Experimental and control plots were established within the glades. Experimental plots were burned in April 2004, and all plots were surveyed during two subsequent growing seasons (2004 and 2005). Populations of three of 14 species of conservation concern declined significantly after the initial fire but recovered the next year. Among other herbaceous species, only five and two differed in population size in 2004 and 2005, respectively. In 2004, more species were more abundant in control than burned plots, but this difference was not detected in 2005. Multivariate community‐level analyses of species presence–absence suggested that the effects of fire were negligible by the 2005 survey. Populations of young trees that had invaded the glades declined dramatically as a result of treatment fires. These results suggest that the reintroduction of fire will not harm glade species and may help prevent encroachment of the surrounding forest.  相似文献

The Miocene Globigerina Limestone of the Maltese islands contains widespread omission surfaces with very different characteristics and origins.The terminal Lower Globigerina Limestone hardground (TLGLHg) formed during a period of falling sea level. Coccolith assemblages suggest shallowness. Sedimentary structures and trace fossil assemblages, indicate increasing frequency of storm events and erosional episodes, towards the surface. Calcite cementation which took place around Thalassinoides burrows and formed irregular nodules was followed by dissolution of aragonite. It is suggested that lithification was linked to microbial reactions involving organic matter.In contrast two later surfaces, the terminal Middle Globigerina Limestone omissionground (TMGLOg), which marks the Lower to Middle Miocene boundary, and the Fomm-ir-Rih local hardground (FiRLHg) both contain early diagenetic dolomite. Lithification took place in two phases. The dolomite is interpreted to have formed beneath the sea floor; it was subsequently exhumed and partially corroded as the precipitation of calcitic and phosphatic cements took place around burrows open to the circulation of sea water.  相似文献

水洞沟遗址是中国北方旧石器时代晚期的著名遗址,石制品原料以就地取材的白云岩为主。本文利用水洞沟地区的白云岩生产细石叶和石片,进行了29组复制使用实验。对使用痕迹的观察表明:不同加工对象和使用方式导致细石叶上出现不同的微痕特征,细石叶适于装柄使用,以刮、切、削等利用侧刃缘的运动方式效率为高,尖部用于加工硬度较低的动植物效果较好。对比燧石、黑曜岩等不同石料的微痕实验数据可知,不同石料的产品,其使用痕迹存在一定差异。本文对白云岩细石叶的微痕实验,探讨了其适宜的使用方式和加工对象的范围,为分析水洞沟地区出土的白云岩细石叶功能提供了可资参考、对比的实验数据。  相似文献

藻类是真核生物进化、植物起源与进化、生物地理学研究的良好材料,研究藻类物种多样性对理解生命起源与早期进化,探明地球地质地貌演化有着非常重要的意义。以两世界自然遗产地施秉云台山白云岩喀斯特、赤水丹霞的陆生藻类为研究对象,通过G-F多样性指数、Jaccard相似性系数、Bray-Curtis矩阵比较分析了不同地质地貌的两世界自然遗产地陆生藻类的物种多样性及种组特征,结果如下:(1)两地陆生藻类丰富,均以蓝藻为优势,共有优势科为色球藻科Chroococcaceae、颤藻科Oscillatoriaceae,施秉云台山还具伪枝藻科Scytonemataceae、念珠藻科Nostocaceae优势,优势属为粘球藻属Gloeocapsa、色球藻属Chroococcus,赤水丹霞仅以粘球藻属Gloeocapsa为优势。(2)施秉云台山G-F多样性指数高于赤水丹霞。(3)两地陆生藻类泛热带成分明显,施秉云台山中国特有成分较赤水丹霞丰富;两地科、属、种相似性系数依次为:56.25%、44.05%、37.62%,科的相似性达到中度水平,与同纬度范围其它地区的Bray-Curtis矩阵聚类结果显示不同地质地貌的两地首先聚为一类。从陆生藻类多样性组成上,初步反映两世界自然遗产地的地质历史、地层岩性及地理位置的异同。  相似文献

The goal of this work was to illustrate a possible interaction between the soda continent and the ocean. A laboratory simulation was undertaken of the development of alkaliphilic mat with calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate interlayers in the zone where ocean waters, containing calcium and manganese, come into contact with carbonate- and phosphate-rich alkaline waters. The macrostructure of the layered cyanobacterial mat turned out to be little dependent on the chemical conditions causing sediment formation. The chemical composition of freshly formed mineral interlayers of the mat was found to vary with the medium composition. The mineralogical composition of the sediment is determined by diagenesis conditions in its depth, which can cause mineral phase conversions.  相似文献

A novel halotolerant sulfate-reducing bacterium, Desulfovibrio brasiliensis strain LVform1, was isolated from sediments of a dolomite-forming hypersaline coastal lagoon, Lagoa Vermelha, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The cells are vibrio-shaped and 0.30 to 0.45 m by 1.0 to 3.5 m in size. These bacteria mediate the precipitation of dolomite [CaMg(CO3)2] in culture experiments. The strain was identified as a member of the genus Desulfovibrio in the -subclass of the Proteobacteria on the basis of its 16S rRNA gene sequence, its physiological and morphological properties. Strain LVform1 is obligate sodium-dependent and grows at NaCl concentrations of up to 15%. The 16S rRNA sequence revealed that this strain is closely related to Desulfovibrio halophilus (96.2% similarity) and to Desulfovibrio oxyclinae (96.8% similarity), which were both isolated from Solar Lake, a hypersaline coastal lake in the Sinai, Egypt. Strain LVform1 is barotolerant, growing under pressures of up to 370 bar (37 MPa). We propose strain LVform1 to be the type strain of a novel species of the genus Desulfovibrio, Desulfovibrio brasiliensis (type strain LVform1 = DSMZ No. 15816 and JCM No. 12178). The applicability of dolomite particlesto control acidificationin a Hyphomicrobium MS3inoculated biofilter removingdimethyl sulphide (Me2S) wasstudied. While direct inoculationof the dolomite particles with theliquid microbial culture was notsuccessful, start-up ofMe2S-degradation in thebiofilter was observed when thedolomite particles were mixed with33% (wt/wt) of Hyphomicrobium MS3-inoculatedcompost or wood bark material.Under optimal conditions, anelimination capacity (EC) of 1680~g Me2S m-3 d-1 wasobtained for the compost/dolomitebiofilter. Contrary to a wood barkor compost biofilter, no reductionin activity due to acidificationwas observed in these biofiltersover a 235 day period because ofthe micro environmentneutralisation of the microbialmetabolite H2SO4 with thecarbonate in the dolomite material.However, performance of thebiofilter decreased when themoisture content of the mixedcompost/dolomite material droppedbelow 15%. Next to this, nutrientlimitation resulted in a gradualdecrease of the EC andsupplementation of a nitrogensource was a prerequisite to obtaina long-term high EC (> 250 gMe2S m-3 d-1) forMe2S. A new benthic freshwater diatom, Achnanthidium dolomiticum sp. nov., was identified from light and scanning electron micrographs. The most characteristic morphological features are a narrow, but distinctive fascia; a filiform raphe with narrowly spaced central ends and a very narrow and straight axial area on the raphe valve; a convex‐shaped rapheless valve; the length/width ratio; and valve outline. The new species, has been found so far to be mainly epiphytic on bryophytes and aquatic vascular plants in carbonate springs and lakes of the Italian Alps. The environmental preferences of the new species, as assessed by the comparative analysis of these sites, appear to be quite distinctive. These freshwater habitats are fed by drainage basins dominated by dolomite lithology with medium mineralization, are oligotrophic, and are affected by seasonal desiccation.  相似文献
