Decay and termite resistance of wood treated with tar oil obtained from a commercial pyrolysis process of macadamia nut shells was evaluated. Vacuum-treated pinewood specimens were subjected to two brown- and two white-rot fungi based on the soil-block test method specified by the American Wood Protection Association after a 10-day-leaching process. Treated specimens were also subjected to the subterranean termite attack according to Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) for 3 weeks under laboratory conditions. In the study, growth inhibition of selected fungi with the tar oil was also tested in vitro. Treated wood specimens at a retention level of 460 kg m−3 showed good protection against all the fungi tested. Mass losses in leached specimens were less than those observed in unleached specimens. Similar results were seen when the specimens were subjected to termite attack. Inhibition tests showed that higher concentrations of the tar oil are critical for inhibition of the brown-rot fungi compared to the concentrations required to impede the white-rot and sap-staining fungi tested.  相似文献

Thirty-three termite species have been recorded from the Arabian peninsula (from Saudi Arabia, North and South Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Kuwait). The fauna is predominantly Afro-tropical (Ethiopian) but with a major Palaearctic (Eremic) element. The greatest diversity occurs in the south-west where mountainous regions provide greater habitat diversity than elsewhere. The Afro-tropical influence decreases towards the north and east, the Palaearctic influence increasing correspondingly; the Oriental influence is negligible and the level of endemism is high.  相似文献

Subterranean termites excavate branching tunnels for searching and transporting food in soil. Experimentally, the length distribution of the branch tunnels, P(L), was characterized by the exponentially decaying function, P(L)  exp(−L) with a branch length exponent of  = 0.15. To evaluate the significance of this value, we used a lattice model to simulate tunnels of the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki in featureless soil and computed the ratio of energy gain for obtained food to loss for transporting food for a given time, γ for various simulated tunnel patterns with the different values of . In simulation, the γ was maximized at 0.15 <  < 0.20 for the number of primary tunnels N = 6, 8, and 10. Our results indicate that tunnels with branch length distributions similar to those derived from empirical tunnel patterns result in tunnels made up of highly efficient paths to search and transport resources.  相似文献

白蚁是最古老的社会性昆虫, 其社会性的维持需要信息素的相互作用。本文回顾了近年来国内外白蚁信息素研究的最新进展, 内容涉及白蚁踪迹信息素、 性信息素、 告警信息素和促食信息素的功能、 化学成分及产生信息素的外分泌腺。白蚁分泌信息素的腺体主要有背板腺、 腹板腺、 后腹板腺、 额腺和唾腺。绝大多数白蚁信息素是挥发性物质。白蚁在化学通讯上存在节俭策略, 即同一种化合物由不同的白蚁种类的不同外分泌腺分泌, 可具有不同的功能。总结了各类信息素在白蚁物种间、 同一物种的品级间和性别间的异同和作用方式, 强调了白蚁信息素的反应阈值、 最佳浓度、 有效期和物种特异性对其功能的影响。目前对白蚁信息素的研究尚处于起步阶段, 其研究成果对等翅目系统发育研究和白蚁防治具有重要的意义。文章最后展望了白蚁信息素在白蚁防治上的应用前景。  相似文献

Subterranean termites excavate tunnels in a search pattern to encounter food in soil. To investigate the effect of food size, food distribution and the branch length of tunnels on food encounter rate we used a lattice gas model to simulate tunnels of the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki. The model made use of minimized local rules derived from empirical data to simulate termite tunnel patterns in featureless soil. Food distributions with three types (uniform, random, and clumped) were defined by using an I-index proposed by Zimmer and Johnson (1985). The food encounter rate was higher in a clumped than in non-clumped (uniform and random) distribution of food particles. When food particle size was varied in random distributions of food particles a maximum encounter rate was found, with particles of larger or smaller size being encountered less frequently. We also discussed the relationship between the branch tunnel length and the tunnel search pattern in minimizing the redundancy of overlapping branches.  相似文献

白蚁管涌(漏)与水利管涌是两个完全不同的概念,而水利工程技术人员往往将其混淆起来,统称为水利管涌进行处理。本文则以大量的事实真相论述它们的区别和不同的处理方法,结论是用水利工程管涌方法去处理白蚁管涌(漏)险情,不但不解决险情,反而常常会酿成崩堤垮坝灾难。事实说明,白蚁管涌(漏)必须按照生物工程法进行处理,方可克服白蚁管涌(漏)险情的发生。  相似文献

为了探讨c-fos原癌基因在白蚁生殖品级和非生殖品级性腺发育中的作用,揭示白蚁不同品级性腺发育的调节机理,本研究运用免疫细胞化学定位方法对尖唇散白蚁Reticulitermes aculabialis繁殖蚁和工蚁精、卵发生过程中的c-fos蛋白表达进行了研究。结果显示:雌性繁殖蚁在末龄若虫期的卵子发生过程中有c-fos-like表达, c-fos-like免疫阳性物质定位于生长期的卵母细胞核和滤泡细胞核中;而繁殖蚁成虫的卵子发生过程中没有c-fos-like免疫阳性反应。雄性繁殖蚁在末龄若虫期时精子发生过程中没有c-fos-like表达, 而发育到成虫期有c-fos-like免疫阳性反应,阳性物质定位于精原细胞的细胞核中。工蚁精、 卵发生过程中均没有c-fos-like的表达。结果提示:c-fos在调节繁殖蚁精子和卵子发生方面有重要作用,c-fos可能通过调节精原细胞增殖参与精子的发生;在卵巢中可以直接作用于生长期的卵母细胞和滤泡细胞来调节卵子的发生。在工蚁性腺中c-fos表达缺失可能导致卵母细胞和滤泡细胞无法正常发育,精原细胞停止增殖而使精子发生处于相对抑制状态。工蚁性腺退化不育可能与c-fos没有正常表达有关。  相似文献

Cell suspensions of H2/CO2-grown Sporomusa termitida catalyzed an H2-supported synthesis of acetate from CO2 at rates of about 1 mol acetate x h-1 x mg protein-1. Cells pre-grown on methanol, mannitol, lactate, or glycine also displayed H2-supported acetogenesis from CO2, although at rates 5–85% that of H2/CO2-grown cells. With methanol-grown cell suspensions: the presence of methanol greatly stimulated the rate of H2-supported conversion of 14CO2 to 14C-acetate (which became labeled mainly in the COOH-group); and like-wise the presence of H2 stimulated the conversion of 14CH3OH+CO2 to 14C-acetate (which became labeled mainlyan the CH3-group). Analogous stimulatory effects were observed for cell suspensions pre-grown on methanol + CO2+H2. Furthermore, when H2 (+CO2) was included as a growth substrate with either methanol or lactate: both substrates were used simultaneously; there was no diauxie in the growth of cells or in acetate production; and the molar growth yield of S. termitida was close to that predicted from summation of the yields observed when grown with each substrate alone. These data indicated that S. termitida can grow by mixotrophy, i.e. by the simultaneous use of H2/CO2 and organic compounds for energy. Results are discussed in light of the ability of H2/CO2 acetogens to outprocess methanogens in H2 consumption in the hindgut fermentation of wood-feeding termites.  相似文献

Daily foraging activity ofAnacanthotermes vagans was tested using toilet paper rolls as bait. The highest activity was recorded at midnight and during the hours of the early morning in both summer and winter seasons. In spring the time of highest activity was reversed to take place at midday, afternoon and early evening. Aktograph records in the laboratory demonstrated that individual workers are active most of the day and not naturally entrianed by photoperiods. Daily activity of groups of 10 workers was not statistically different from that of individual workers.  相似文献
