Plasma and erythrocyte manganese concentrations

This study was carried out to assess manganese (Mn) status after an acute episode of myocardial infarction. Plasma and erythrocyte Mn concentrations were measured from admission to hospital to day 15 postadmission in 21 patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction and in three control groups. The determination of Mn in these biological fluids was performed by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. Plasma Mn was higher (p<0.01) and erythrocyte Mn was similar in the acute myocardial infarction group compared to healthy age-matched control group. Plasma and erythrocyte Mn remained unchanged during the 2 wk after acute myocardial infarction and were not correlated to enzyme activities. A decrease of erythrocyte Mn with age, expressed in nmol/L, was noted (p<0.02). These results suggest that plasma and erythrocyte Mn do not provide an indication of myocardial damage. Nonetheless, Mn status in elderly merits further attention.     

31P nuclear magnetic resonance study on changes in phosphocreatine and the intracellular pH in rat skeletal muscle during exercise at various inspired oxygen contents

We measured ATP, phosphocreatine (PCr), inorganic phosphate (P_i), and the intracellular pH in rat hindlimb muscles during submaximal isometric exercise with various O₂ deliveries using³¹P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (³¹P NMR) to evaluate changes in energy metabolism in relation to O₂ availability. Delivery of O₂ to muscles was altered by controlling the fractional concentration of inspired oxygen (F _IO₂) at 0.50, 0.28, 0.21, 0.11 and 0.08 with monitoring partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide, and bicarbonate at the femoral artery. The steady-state ratio of PCr : (PCr + P_i) during exercise decreased as a function ofF _IO₂ even at 0.21. Significant acidification of the intracellular pH during exercise occurred at 0.08F _IO₂. Change in the PCr : (PCr + P_i) ratio demonstrated that the oxidative capacity, i.e. the maximal rate of the oxidative phosphorylation reaction, in muscle was not limited by O₂ delivery at 0.50F _IO₂, but was significantly limited at 0.21F _IO₂ or below. Change in the intracellular pH at 0.08F _IO₂ could be interpreted as an increase in lactate, suggesting activation of glycolysis. Correlation between the PCr : (PCr + P_i) ratio and the intracellular pH revealed the existence of a critical PCr : (PCr + P_i) ratio and pH for glycolysis activation at around 0.4 and 6.7, respectively.     

聚焦色谱法测定肌型肌酸激酶亚型

报道了测定CK-MM亚型的聚焦色谱法,此法简单,快速,结果可靠,线性范围宽,最低检测限（8U／L）较正常参考值低,比国外报道的类似方法高6倍以上,分离度亦有改进.测定了20例健康人血清亚型分布,与文献报道结果相近.该法自动化程度高,已在急性心梗的诊断中实际应用.     

Methenamine-Silver Staining: a Simple and Sensitive Staining Method for Senile Plaques and Neurofibrillary Tangles

An improved methenamine-silver impregnation method is presented which exhibits sensitivity for amyloid substances comparable to that of anti-β protein immunostaining. In optimally treated sections, this technique stained both β-amyloid deposits and neurofibrillary tangles, which are known to have a β-pleated structure. This simple procedure allows a large number of sections to be stained for routine examination.     

A carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance investigation of the metabolic fluxes associated withy glucose metabolism in human erythrocytes

We have used [2-¹³C]d-glucose and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to investigate metabolic fluxes through the major pathways of glucose metabolism in intact human erythrocytes and to determine the interactions among these pathways under conditions that perturb metabolism. Using the method described, we have been able to measure fluxes through the pentose phosphate pathway, phosphofructokinase, the 2,3-diphosphoglycerate bypass, and phosphoglycerate kinase, as well as glucose uptake, concurrently and in a single experiment. We have measured these fluxes in normal human erythrocytes under the following conditions: (1) fully oxygenated; (2) treated with methylene blue; and (3) deoxygenated. This method makes it possible to monitor various metabolic effects of stresses in normal and pathological states. Not only has ¹³C-NMR spectroscopy proved to be a useful method for measuring in vivo flux through the pentose phosphate pathway, but it has also provided additional information about the cycling of metabolites through the non-oxidative portion of the pentose phosphate pathway. Our evidence from experiments with [1-¹³C]-, [2-¹³C]-, and [3-¹³C]d-glucoses indicates that there is an observable reverse flux of fructose 6-phosphate through the reactions catalyzed by transketolase and transaldolase, even in the presence of a net flux through the pentose phosphate pathway.     

Game theory-based stakeholder analysis of marine nature reserves and its case studies in Guangdong Province,China

Marine nature reserves (MNRs) play an important role in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration, which are valuable for marine resource protection in China. Many stakeholders are involved in MNRs. The interactions between MNR managers and other stakeholders affect the effectiveness of MNR management. This work divided MNR stakeholders into three categories and applied the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to identify the key stakeholders. The game model was set up to analyze the strategies of MNR staff and stakeholders. The situation of key stakeholders and management was studied in two MNRs in Guangdong Province through field research and questionnaires. The results showed that fishermen were the main stakeholders in the two cases. The strategies adopted by MNR staff to improve the efficiency of law enforcement and decrease the probability of illegal activities of fishermen are to increase penalties, improve the arrest rate of illegal activities, and reduce the cost of law enforcement per patrol. We suggested that the fishermen’s negative impacts could be minimized by establishing a market management system to reduce illegal earnings, a record-keeping system to share additional benefits only with the fishermen who comply with the law, and an association mechanism in the coastal province to control illegal fishing across provincial boundaries. Identifying key stakeholders and analyzing their relationships could be helpful to find out the best strategy for different MNRs. Building a community of shared interests among various stakeholders could be a promising way to resolve conflicts and improve management effectiveness in MNRs.     

丹参素注射液对急性心肌梗死大鼠的心室重构、心室功能及肢体导联与胸导联心电图参数的影响

摘要 目的：探讨丹参素注射液对急性心肌梗死大鼠的心室重构、心室功能及肢体导联与胸导联心电图参数的影响。方法：选择SD大鼠40只,将其鼠随机模型组、假手术组、硝酸甘油组、丹参注射液组。假手术组大鼠给予只在冠状动脉处穿针,不进行结扎,其余步骤同其余3组,其余3组均进行动物模型构建。假手术组、模型组大鼠均腹腔注射氯化钠注射液,硝酸甘油组腹腔注射硝酸甘油,丹参注射液组腹腔注射丹参注射液。对比4组大鼠的肢体导联与胸导联心电图参数,对比4组大鼠的血液流变学指标、左心室功能及左心室重构。结果：模型组的Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ、aVL、aVF、V1、V2、V5、血浆粘度、纤维蛋白原、红细胞聚集指数、舒张末期室间隔厚度、左室舒张末期内径、左室收缩末期内径、左室舒张末期容积、左室收缩末期容积明显较假手术组、硝酸甘油组、丹参注射液组高,硝酸甘油、丹参注射液组以上指标明显较假手术组高,模型组的的左室舒张末期厚度、左室射血分数、左室短轴缩短率明显较假手术组、硝酸甘油组、丹参注射液组低,硝酸甘油、丹参注射液组的左室舒张末期厚度、左室射血分数、左室短轴缩短率明显较假手术组低。模型组的左心室重量指数、左心室截面直径明显较假手术组、硝酸甘油组、丹参注射液组高,硝酸甘油、丹参注射液组的左心室重量指数、左心室截面直径、梗死面积明显较假手术组高（P<0.05）,硝酸甘油组与丹参注射液组以上指标对比无差异（P>0.05）。结论：丹参素注射液可改善急性心肌梗死大鼠的心室重构、左心室功能及肢体导联与胸导联心电图参数,可能与其可降低大鼠的血液流变学指标水平有关。
