Twenty-four lactating Holstein dairy cows (12 first lactation and 12 multiparous; day in milk = 11 ± 5 days) were allotted to a randomised complete block design in a 2 × 3 factorial with four replicates per treatment to evaluate the effects of two methods of alfalfa feeding (dry and reconstituted to achieve a theoretical dry matter (DM) content of 350 g/kg) and three geometric mean (GM) particle sizes of alfalfa (9.13, 4.51 and 1.20 mm) on performance of dairy cows for a period of 28 days. Diets were offered for ad libitum intake as total mixed rations (TMR). The GM particle size, its standard deviation, and the values of physical effectiveness factor of alfalfa and TMR decreased as alfalfa particle size decreased. Reduction of particle size and reconstitution of alfalfa increased the bulk density and the functional specific gravity of alfalfa and rations. Reduction of particle size decreased insoluble dry matter, water-holding capacity, and hydration rate of alfalfa. As particle size decreased, the amount of physically effective NDF in the ration (g/kg) decreased but the daily intake of physically effective NDF (kg/day) increased. Reduction of particle size and reconstitution increased dry matter intake (DMI) and ruminal passage rate, but reduced NDF and ash digestibilities, ruminal pH, N-NH3, milk fat, total chewing activity, rumination and eating time, total and ruminal mean retention time, and time delay of marker. Increased functional specific gravity, from reduced forage particle size and the reconstitution of alfalfa, was the most important factor influencing DMI, milk composition, and chewing activity.  相似文献

This study evaluated whether differences in milk fever incidence among Swedish dairy herds could be explained partly by differences in mineral feeding during the last weeks of gestation. A case–control study was performed on dietary risk factors for a high incidence of milk fever at the herd level using information regarding feeding and management of the dry cows collected in a written questionnaire distributed by post in spring 2008. The study was conducted from September 2004 to August 2007. Data on the diets fed to dry cows, with an emphasis on the amounts of minerals (Ca, P, Mg and K) fed 3 weeks before calving and at calving, were obtained from 30 herds belonging to the 100 Swedish herds with the highest recorded incidence of veterinary treatment for milk fever (>8.8%) and from 22 herds with no recorded milk fever treatments. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that a linear increase in the total amount of K and less than 26 g of Mg/day fed to dry cows 3 weeks before calving was associated with an increased risk of high milk fever incidence. A large increase in the amount of dry matter (DM) fed (>3.1 kg DM extra per day at calving compared with 3 weeks before calving) was associated with a higher incidence of milk fever, but no differences were found for Ca or P intake. Breed composition, herd average milk yield and age composition of the herd did not explain any of the observed differences between the case and the control herds. The results indicate that differences in the frequency of milk fever among herds can be associated with differences in mineral feeding of the dry cows. A high amount of K in the diet may increase the risk of milk fever linearly, whereas Mg should probably be fed at a higher level than the current Nordic recommendation to prevent milk fever.  相似文献

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of dietary cation–anion difference (DCAD) on ruminal fermentation, total apparent digestibility, blood and renal metabolism of lactating dairy cows. Sixteen Holstein cows were distributed in four contemporary 4×4 Latin Square designs, which consisted of four periods of 21 days and four treatments according to DCAD: +290; +192; +98 and −71 milliequivalent (mEq)/kg dry matter (DM). Ruminal pH and concentrations of acetic and butyric acid increased linearly according to the increase of DCAD. Similarly, NDF total apparent digestibility linearly increased by 6.38% when DCAD increased from −71 to 290 mEq/kg DM [Y=65.90 (SE=2.37)+0.0167 (SE=0.0068)×DCAD (mEq/kg DM)]. Blood pH was also increased according to DCAD, which resulted in reduction of serum concentrations of Na, K and ionic calcium (iCa). To maintain the blood acid–base homeostasis, renal metabolism played an important role in controlling serum concentrations of Na and K, since the Na and K urinary excretion increased linearly by 89.69% and 46.06%, respectively, from −71 to 290 mEq/kg DM. Changes in acid–base balance of biological fluids may directly affect the mineral composition of milk, as milk concentrations of Na, K, iCa and chlorides were reduced according to blood pH increased. Thus, it can be concluded that the increase of DCAD raises the pH of ruminal fluid, NDF total apparent digestibility, and blood pH, and decreases the milk concentration of cationic minerals, as well as the efficiency of Na utilization to milk production.  相似文献

Milking animals produce milk commensurate with their genetic potential only when they are fed a nutritionally balanced ration in an amount that provides nutrients to express their genetic potential. As animals kept by smallholder farmers are rarely fed a balanced ration, a programme to feed balanced rations to animals of such farmers was launched in India. Based on their milk yield, the animals were categorized as: low (<8 kg/d), medium (8–12 kg/d) and high (>12 kg/d) yielders. Milk yield, milk fat and net daily income to milk producers were recorded before and after feeding a balanced ration. Nutritional status of animals showed that, for 71% of animals’, crude protein (CP) and metabolizable energy intakes were higher and, for 65% of animals’, calcium and phosphorus intakes were lower than requirements. Ration balancing improved milk yield by 2–14% and its milk fat proportion by 0.2–15%. Feed conversion efficiency, as kg of fat corrected milk (FCM)/kg of dry matter intake of buffaloes (n = 1131) before and after feeding balanced rations was 0.6 and 0.7, respectively, and in cows (n = 540) the values were 0.6 and 0.8. Dietary N secreted into milk increased from 0.16 to 0.25 and 0.16 to 0.19 in low and medium yielding cows and buffaloes, respectively. Rumen microbial CP synthesis also increased (P<0.05) by 36 and 38% in cows and buffaloes, respectively. On feeding balanced rations, levels (mg/ml) of plasma immunoglobulins IgG, IgM and IgA increased from 14.48 to 22.11, 2.69 to 3.29 and 0.48 to 0.67, and the parasitic load was reduced from 168 to 81 eggs/g of faeces. Enteric CH4 emissions (g/kg milk yield) was reduced by 15–20% (P<0.05) in these lactating animals. Results demonstrate that feeding nutritionally balanced rations increased milk production and reduced enteric CH4 emissions and N excretion from lactating cows and buffaloes. While implementation of a ration balancing programme under small holding systems is challenging, large scale use of this programme in tropical countries can help improve productivity of milking animals with available feed resources in an environmentally sustainable manner.  相似文献

Forty-eight lambs were artificially reared from 1 day old and offered milk substitute reconstituted to give diets containing 10, 16, 22 and 28% dry matter (DM). Three feeding methods were used for each diet: milk substitute available ad libitum (AL); restricted to a mean daily intake of 1300 g liquid milk substitute (RLQ); and restricted to a mean daily intake of 247 g milk substitute DM (RDM).Solid food intake and lamb growth rate were measured both before and after weaning at 28 days.For method AL, decreasing DM concentration in the milk substitute increased intake of the liquid but decreased that of DM. When DM intakes were held constant, neither method of feeding nor DM concentration had an effect on lamb growth, and level of reconstitution of the milk substitute had no effect on its digestibility. Differences in growth rate before weaning were due entirely to differences in intake of milk substitute DM.After weaning, lambs which had received the diet containing 10% DM tended to perform less well than those that had received the other diets.The lambs were slaughtered at 35 kg live weight. There were no effects of treatment on gains of water, fat and protein.  相似文献

Individual haddock, Melanogrammus aeglefinus (L.) were maintained at different feeding levels in an aquarium from November until the completion of spawning. The mean duration of spawning was 33.2 days (range 19–59) during which an average of 16.6 (range 10–25) batches of eggs were produced. The size and dry weight of the eggs declined during the spawning period. Egg production and feeding level were correlated positively. There was some suggestion that when female haddock received low rations (< 5 kcal day-1) a lower proportion spawned, and the dry weights of the eggs were lower compared with females on high rations (> 13 kcal day -1). The relation between daily growth in wet weight, g, and daily surplus energy intake, kcal, was: G =(0.295 E )— 0.328. When food energy is restricted, haddock appear to achieve a balance between somatic growth and reproduction.  相似文献

Transfer coefficients (the equilibrium ratio be-tween radionuclide activity concentration in milk or meat and the daily intake of radionuclide) are widely used to predict the contamination of animal products following the release of radionuclides into the environment. For a transfer coefficient to be generally applicable, its value must be constant for a range of circumstances. However, this is not the case for radiostrontium, the behaviour of which is strongly influenced by that of the homeostatically controlled nutrient, calcium. In this study, a relationship is derived between radiostrontium transfer coefficients and dietary calcium intake which takes into account the observed ratio for strontium:calcium transfer to milk. This relationship is tested against a range of observed data collated from the literature (n = 30) and found to account for 93% of the variability in transfer coefficient values. Model calculations show that a reduction in F m of at least 40%–60% would be expected if dairy cattle, fed rations typical for well-managed herds, were supplemented with 100–200 g per day. The dairy farming systems of Western Europe are based on a simple feeding system composed of grazed and preserved grass, maize silage and concentrates in variable proportions. There is, nevertheless, a great diversity of feeding strategies between dairy farms. Over 5 years, we studied the direct and delayed effects of four feeding strategies on the lactation and reproduction performances of Holstein and Normande dairy cows. The four feeding strategies (denoted Hh, Hl, Lh and Ll) correspond to two total mixed rations applied in winter from calving to turnout (maize silage with 30% concentrate or grass silage with 15% concentrate), which were subsequently crossed with two levels of concentrate supplementation at grazing to 210 days. Each year, 72 dairy cows managed in grouped winter calving were assigned to the four strategies. Finally, the results of 325 lactations and 295 inseminated cows were analysed. The four strategies resulted in considerable variation in nutrient intake and, in particular, in differences in concentrates consumed, with values of 1407, 1026, 773 and 392 kg dry matter per cow for strategies Hh, Lh, Hl and Ll, respectively. Total milk production (7567, 7015, 6720 and 6238 kg per cow for treatments Hh, Lh, Hl and Ll, respectively), milk fat content (39.0, 37.1, 40.3 and 38.5 g/kg, respectively), milk protein content (33.0, 31.8, 33.1 and 31.6 g/kg, respectively), and the character of the lactation and body condition curves were all highly sensitive to the strategies applied. While no significant interaction was detected on total lactation yield, the Holstein cows reacted more dramatically to each dietary change at each period, compared with the Normande cows. Winter feeding did not affect the production of milk at pasture whereas, at pasture, the milk from the cows of the H groups in winter was higher in milk fat and protein content. Reproduction performance was unaffected by feeding strategy. The Holstein cows, well fed and producing the most milk (Hh and Hb), had the lowest rate of success at first artificial inseminations (21.5%). The dual-purpose Normande cows had a pregnancy rate 10 points higher than Holstein cows. This comparison of strongly contrasting feeding strategies confirms the immediate reactivity of dairy cows (in terms of milk performance and body condition) to variations of nutritive intake throughout lactation, with a weak carryover effect from feeding levels early in lactation. Starch is an important energy-providing nutrient for dairy cows that is most commonly provided from cereal grains. However, ruminal fermentation of large amounts of easily degradable starch leads to excessive production and accumulation of volatile fatty acids (VFA). VFA not only play a vital role in the energy metabolism of dairy cows but are also the main cause of ruminal acidosis and depressed feed intake. The aim of the present study was to compare maize cob silage (MCS) as an energy supplement in rations for dairy cows with highly rumen-digestible rolled barley and with sodium hydroxide wheat (SHW), which has a higher proportion of by-pass starch than barley. Two studies were carried out: (1) a production study on 45 Danish Holstein cows and (2) an intensive study to determine digestibilities, rumen fermentation patterns and methane emission using three rumen-cannulated Danish Holstein cows. Both studies were organised as a 3×3 Latin square with three experimental periods and three different mixed rations. The rations consisted of grass-clover silage and maize silage (~60% of dry matter (DM)), rapeseed cake, soybean meal, sugar beet pulp and one of three different cereals as a major energy supplement: MCS, SHW or rolled barley (~25% of DM). When MCS replaced barley or SHW as an energy supplement in the mixed rations, it resulted in a lower dry matter intake; however, the apparent total tract digestibilities of DM, organic matter, NDF, starch and protein were not different between treatments. The energy-corrected milk yield was unaffected by treatment. The fat content of the milk on the MCS ration was not different from the SHW ration, whereas it was higher on the barley ration. The protein content of the milk decreased when MCS was used in the ration compared with barley and SHW. From ruminal VFA patterns and pH measures, it appeared that MCS possessed roughage qualities with respect to rumen environment, while at the same time being sufficiently energy rich to replace barley and SHW as a major energy supplement for milk production. The environmental impact, expressed as methane emissions, was not different when comparing MCS, SHW and barley.  相似文献

Computer models of dairy cow digestion and metabolism are useful tools to evaluate rations and estimate nitrogen (N) excretion. Using models, different management strategies and/or feeding practices can be evaluated and their impact on N excretion explored before implementation. Critical parameters for developing nutrient management plans can be identified to help reduce the impact of animal manure. However, before a model is implemented, errors associated with predictions and limitations of the model must be known. Otherwise, proposed management and feeding changes may not result in effective measures to optimally manage N excretion. The objective of this research effort was to determine whether or not Molly, a dynamic model of dairy cow digestion and metabolism [Baldwin, R.L., 1995. Modeling Ruminant Digestion and Metabolism. Chapman & Hall, UK], could be used to predict N excretion. In Molly, predictions of N excretion are based on level of milk production (ucells) and rate of insoluble protein hydrolysis (KPiAa). Accurate estimation of N excretion patterns would indicate that understanding of N metabolism as represented in Molly is adequate. Failures indicate that more research is needed. To examine estimates of N excretion, N balance data from 18 publications in the Journals of Dairy and Animal Science were simulated using Molly. Input data required included diet composition (N intake), initial bodyweight, days in milk, dry matter intake and milk production. A total of 73 different simulations (73 different diets) with N intakes ranging from 0.19 to 0.78 kg/d and crude proteins of 106–206 g/kg were run. Model outputs of milk, milk protein, faecal N, urinary N and milk N were compared to observed data. Overall, the model simulated reality well. Mean bias are less than 11% for milk yield, milk protein, faecal N, urinary N and milk N with coefficients of determination of 0.94, 0.73, 0.70, 0.80 and 0.88, respectively. Mean absolute errors and root mean square prediction errors are also low compared with observed mean milk, milk protein, faecal N, urinary N and milk N. N excretion losses due to volatilisation were not included in model estimates of faecal N and urinary N. Predicted rates of insoluble protein hydrolysis (KPiAa) from estimating N excretion indicated that current estimates of fractions of undegraded protein for individual feedstuffs in Rumen Nitrogen Usage [National Research Council (NRC), 1985. A total of 32 lactating Holstein cows with mean body weight of 622 kg (s.e. = 24) were allotted, at week 25 of lactation, to eight groups of four cows blocked for similar days in milk. The objective of the experiment was to determine the effect of feeding four dietary concentrations (0, 50, 100 or 150 g/kg of dry matter) of whole flaxseed, which contains the plant lignan precursor secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), on concentrations of two mammalian lignans (enterodiol and enterolactone) in milk. The effects of the four diets on feed intake, milk production, milk composition and digestion were also studied. Cows within each block were assigned to one of the four isonitrogenous and isoenergetic total mixed diets and the experiment was carried out from week 25 to 29 of lactation. Diets were fed for ad libitum intake. Enterolactone was the mammalian lignan, of the two metabolites studied, detected in the milk of cows and its concentration in milk tended (P = 0.08) to increase linearly with higher intake of SDG in the diet. Feed intake, milk yield and milk composition were similar among diets. Milk fatty acid profile was slightly improved by feeding flaxseed, as shown by higher concentrations of fatty acids (e.g. n-3) recognized as being beneficial for human health. Those results suggest that feeding of whole flaxseed may result in changes in milk fatty acid composition and enterolactone content, which offer benefits for consumers.  相似文献

Dairy cows are commonly fed energy-dense diets with high proportions of concentrate feedstuffs to meet the increased energy needs of early lactation. However, feeding large amounts of concentrates may cause rumen acidosis and impact cow health. The hypothesis tested was that the energy supply and metabolic health of early-lactation Simmental cows can be maintained when high-quality hay rich in water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC) and crude protein (CP) is fed, despite the proportion of concentrates in the diet being reduced or even excluded. Twenty-four Simmental cows were allocated to one of four feeding groups beginning 10 d before the expected calving date, until 28 d thereafter. The feeding groups were 60CH (60% conventional fibre-rich hay plus 40% concentrate feed), 60HQH (60% high-quality hay plus 40% concentrate feed), 75HQH (75% high-quality hay plus 25% concentrate feed) and 100HQH (100% high-quality hay). The fibre-rich hay and high-quality hay differed in WSC content (110 g vs. 198 g of dry matter (DM)), neutral detergent fibre (646 g vs. 423 g of DM) and CP (65 g vs. 223 g of DM). Individual feed intake and milk production were monitored daily, and blood samples were collected weekly. Dry matter intake (DMI) and milk yield increased post partum, but 4 weeks post partum, the DMI of cows fed 100HQH only reached a daily mean DMI of 18.6 kg, whereas the DMI of the other groups averaged 21.9 kg (p < 0.046). The negative energy balance was less pronounced in cows fed 75HQH since they showed similar milk yields to the cows fed 60CH and 100HQH, but their energy intake was higher. Concentrations of milk components were similar across rations 60CH, 60HQH and 75HQH, as were most of blood parameters. Cows fed 100HQH responded to the energy deficit post partum with a higher ratio of non-esterified fatty acids to cholesterol and a higher concentration of ß-hydroxybutyrate (significant in comparison to cows fed 75HQH, p < 0.05). In conclusion, feeding high-quality hay with a WSC content of 20% in DM has the potential to decrease the proportion of concentrates in dairy cow feeding in early lactation, but cannot fully replace their supplementation due to a limited rumen capacity for forage intake.  相似文献

Calcium-content was determined in 23,557 daily food rations of the individuals fed individually or in sets of food or meals prepared in various institutions (3,298) in 1975-1987. Calcium deficit in daily food of girls and adult women has ranged from 50% to 6.2% in comparison with daily intakes recommended in Poland. Mean content of calcium per 1000 kcal ranged from 191.6 mg to 276.2 mg in 24 of the analysed meals. Calcium deficit amounted to 14-37.4% in 20 out of 24 analysed daily meals for boys and men. Calcium content in the remaining daily food rations was equal or even higher than the Polish daily intake recommendation. A mean calcium content per 1000 kcal ranged from 211.6 mg to 342.1 mg. These results suggest, that the daily calcium intake in several groups of the general population is to low, especially in women. Authors suggest, that such a low calcium intake in the diet increases the risk of osteoporosis, and intoxications with lead and cadmium salts, especially in children.  相似文献

The biological cycles of milk production and reproduction determine dairying profitability thus making management decisions dynamic and time-dependent. Diseases also negatively impact on net earnings of a dairy enterprise. Transition cows in particular face the challenge of negative energy balance (NEB) and/or disproportional energy metabolism (fatty liver, ketosis, subacute, acute ruminal acidosis); disturbed mineral utilization (milk fever, sub-clinical hypocalcemia); and perturbed immune function (retained placenta, metritis, mastitis). Consequently NEB and reduced dry matter intake are aggravated. The combined effects of all these challenges are reduced fertility and milk production resulting in diminishing profits. Risk factors such as NEB, inflammation and impairment of the immune response are highly cause-and-effect related. Thus, managing cows during the transition period should be geared toward reducing NEB or feeding specially formulated diets to improve immunity. Given that all cows experience a reduced feed intake and body condition, infection and inflammation of the uterus after calving, there is a need for further research on the immunology of transition dairy cows. Integrative approaches at the molecular, cellular and animal level may unravel the complex interactions between disturbed metabolism and immune function that predispose cows to periparturient diseases.  相似文献

Daily milk and solid food intakes were studied in leverets before weaning and during 52 lactations in captive doe-hares. Changes in milk composition were studied in parallel during 11 other lactations. With the mode of feeding used (one nursing per 24 hr), milk and solid food intakes were recorded for the first 30 neonatal days. The profile of milk intake had three phases: it showed an increase between D0 and D12, a plateau between D12 and D22, and a decrease between D22 and D30. Solid food intake began at D7 and increased significantly from D14. The mean levels of dry matter, fat and protein in doe hare's milk were similar to those in rabbit's milk The amino acid composition of total protein resembled that of rabbit's milk. There were fewer medium-chain fatty acids (8:0-14:0) in here's milk than in rabbit's milk and the levels of some major minerals (Ca, P, K) were also different. The levels of protein and medium-chain fatty acids (except 14:0) increased significantly with time. On the other hand, the levels of long-chain fatty acids (except 18:0 and 18:3, N = 3) decreased significantly. There was no significant change in the other factors studied.  相似文献

This animal simulation model, named e-Cow, represents a single dairy cow at grazing. The model integrates algorithms from three previously published models: a model that predicts herbage dry matter (DM) intake by grazing dairy cows, a mammary gland model that predicts potential milk yield and a body lipid model that predicts genetically driven live weight (LW) and body condition score (BCS). Both nutritional and genetic drives are accounted for in the prediction of energy intake and its partitioning. The main inputs are herbage allowance (HA; kg DM offered/cow per day), metabolisable energy and NDF concentrations in herbage and supplements, supplements offered (kg DM/cow per day), type of pasture (ryegrass or lucerne), days in milk, days pregnant, lactation number, BCS and LW at calving, breed or strain of cow and genetic merit, that is, potential yields of milk, fat and protein. Separate equations are used to predict herbage intake, depending on the cutting heights at which HA is expressed. The e-Cow model is written in Visual Basic programming language within Microsoft ExcelR. The model predicts whole-lactation performance of dairy cows on a daily basis, and the main outputs are the daily and annual DM intake, milk yield and changes in BCS and LW. In the e-Cow model, neither herbage DM intake nor milk yield or LW change are needed as inputs; instead, they are predicted by the e-Cow model. The e-Cow model was validated against experimental data for Holstein–Friesian cows with both North American (NA) and New Zealand (NZ) genetics grazing ryegrass-based pastures, with or without supplementary feeding and for three complete lactations, divided into weekly periods. The model was able to predict animal performance with satisfactory accuracy, with concordance correlation coefficients of 0.81, 0.76 and 0.62 for herbage DM intake, milk yield and LW change, respectively. Simulations performed with the model showed that it is sensitive to genotype by feeding environment interactions. The e-Cow model tended to overestimate the milk yield of NA genotype cows at low milk yields, while it underestimated the milk yield of NZ genotype cows at high milk yields. The approach used to define the potential milk yield of the cow and equations used to predict herbage DM intake make the model applicable for predictions in countries with temperate pastures.  相似文献

Fine grinding of barley grain has traditionally been considered to be a potential risk to rumen function, feed intake and milk yield. These concerns are thought to be reduced by steam-rolling or coarse dry rolling. We hypothesized that finely ground barley grain is as effective in stimulating feed intake and milk production as are dry- and steam-rolled barley grain, and so the objective was to determine effects of feeding either (1) finely ground, (2) steam-rolled, (3) finely dry-rolled, or (4) coarsely dry-rolled barley grain on rumen fermentation, digestibility and milk yield and composition. Eight multiparous midlactation Holstein cows were used in a replicated 4×4 Latin square design experiment with four periods of 21 d. Diets contained 256 g barley grain/kg on a dry matter (DM) basis. Processing method did not affect milk yield and composition, DM intake, rumen pH and volatile fatty acids, fecal and urine pH, and apparent total tract nutrient digestibility. Results suggest that finely ground barley grain is no different than dry-rolled and steam-rolled barley grains in stimulating feed intake and productivity of midlactation cows, when 256 g of dietary DM/kg is barley grain.  相似文献

Increasing the lactose content of different milk replacers or milk diets by approx. 30 % of the dry matter increased the frequency of diarrhoea the first 10–12 days in young calves on all occasions in 5 experiments comprising 120 calves. For all diets taken together, this effect was highly significant. Total daily intakes of lactose amounted to 200–480 g. When lactose was given on top of the milk rations, the growth rate increased significantly, whereas the growth rate was usually insignificantly reduced when lactose replaced other nutrients in milk diets or milk replacers, their levels of protein and fat becoming low. Albumin and total protein in blood plasma were significantly lower when the dietary protein level was low. Milk replacers with 20 or 40 % whey powder, replacing skim milk powder, performed equally well, but gave significantly less growth than the old-fashioned feeding of whole milk-skim milk. Intake of hay and barley and a number of clinical and histological or pathological parameters did not vary consistently with dietary level of whey powder or lactose. Feeding whole milk all the time resulted in low intake of hay and barley and poorly developed forestomachs, but high dressing-out %. Substituting soya for part of the skim milk powder in milk replacers gave abomasal content with no curds. In most cases, pH in the rumen appeared to be nearly up to neutral until the calves ate ground barley, about 1 month old.  相似文献

Beet pulp contains high amounts of pectins that can reduce the risk of rumen disorders compared to using feedstuffs high in starch. The objective was to study the effects of inclusion of ensiled pressed beet pulp in total mixed rations (TMR) for high-yielding dairy cows. Two TMR containing no or about 20% (on dry matter (DM) basis) beet pulp silage were used. The beet pulp silage mainly replaced maize silage and corn cob silage. The TMR were intentionally equal in the concentrations of energy and utilisable crude protein (CP) at the duodenum. TMR were fed to 39 and 40 dairy cows, respectively, for 118 days. The average daily milk yield was about 43 kg/day. No significant differences in milk yield and milk fat or milk protein content were detected. DM intake of cows was significantly reduced by the inclusion of beet pulp silage (23.0 v. 24.5 kg/day). However, a digestibility study, separately conducted with sheep, showed a significantly higher organic matter digestibility and metabolisable energy concentration for the TMR that contained beet pulp silage. In vitro gas production kinetics indicated that the intensity of fermentation was lower in the TMR that contained beet pulp silage. In vitro production of short-chain fatty acids, studied using a Rusitec, did not differ between the TMR. However, the inclusion of beet pulp silage in the ration caused a significant reduction in the efficiency of microbial CP synthesis in vitro. The amino acid profile of microbial protein remained unchanged. It was concluded that beet pulp silage has specific effects on ruminal fermentation that may depress feed intake of cows but improve digestibility. An inclusion of beet pulp silage of up to 20% of DM in rations for high-yielding dairy cows is possible without significant effects on milk yield and milk protein or milk fat.  相似文献

Low-cost feeding-behavior sensors will soon be available for commercial use in dairy farms. The aim of this study was to develop a feed intake model for the individual dairy cow that includes feeding behavior. In a research farm, the individual cows’ voluntary feed intake and feeding behavior were monitored at every meal. A feed intake model was developed based on data that exist in commercial modern farms: ‘BW,’ ‘milk yield’ and ‘days in milking’ parameters were applied in this study. At the individual cow level, eating velocity seemed to be correlated with feed intake (R2=0.93 to 0.94). The eating velocity coefficient varied among individuals, ranging from 150 to 230 g/min per cow. The contribution of feeding behavior (0.28) to the dry matter intake (DMI) model was higher than the contribution of BW (0.20), similar to the contribution of fat-corrected milk (FCM)/BW (0.29) and not as large as the contribution of FCM (0.49). Incorporating feeding behavior into the DMI model improved its accuracy by 1.3 (38%) kg/cow per day. The model is ready to be implemented in commercial farms as soon as companies introduce low-cost feeding-behavior sensors on commercial level.  相似文献
