Abstract The invasive Q biotype whitefly was first detected in the US on poinsettia in 2004 and is still not a pest outside of greenhouse environments in the US. To assess the potential for the establishment of the Q biotype on field crops, population cage experiments were conducted to compare the performance of a poinsettia‐derived Q population named P’06 on poinsettia and six field crops (alfalfa, tomato, melon, cotton, cowpea and cabbage). P’06 adults reared on poinsettia as nymphs laid eggs on all six field crops. Significantly more eggs were laid on alfalfa, tomato, melon and cotton than on cabbage, cowpea and poinsettia. These eggs hatched and the nymphs developed to adults on the six field crops. Relative to poinsettia, whitefly survival was similar on cowpea, alfalfa, tomato and cabbage, but significantly higher on cotton and melon. Moreover, P’06 had significantly shorter development times from egg to adult on cotton, melon, cowpea, tomato and alfalfa than they did on poinsettia. However, the F1 adults raised on the six field crops had significantly shorter lifespans and laid 11‐ to 18‐fold fewer eggs than did the F1 adults raised on poinsettia. Taken together, while P’06 may have some potential to establish on field crops, the shorter lifespans and extremely low fecundities of the F1 adults raised on the six field crops suggests that P’06 is incapable of rapidly adapting to them. Poor adaptation to field crops may explain, at least partially, why the Q biotype has not established in the US field system.  相似文献

Abstract:  The use of infective juveniles (IJs) of the entomopathogenic nematode, Steinernema feltiae , to control the immature stages of the tobacco whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hom., Aleyrodidae), on a range of host plants was investigated. Foliar applications of S. feltiae (10 000 IJs/ml) were made to tomato ( Lycopersicon esculentum ), cucumber ( Cucumis sativus ), poinsettia ( Euphorbia pulcherrima ), chrysanthemum ( Dendranthema spp.) and verbena ( Verbena hybrida ) infested with second instar B. tabaci , to determine whether efficacy was influenced by plant species. The effect of the adjuvants Agral, Triton X-100, methylcellulose, glycerol and spraying oil on the level of pest mortality was also assessed using two selected host plants, tomato and verbena. Following nematode application B. tabaci mortalities of 32, 28, 22 and 22% were recorded on tomato, cucumber, verbena and chrysanthemum, respectively, but a lower mean mortality was noted for whitefly feeding on poinsettia (10%). Mortality of B. tabaci on tomato and verbena was significantly increased by the addition of either Triton X-100 or Agral to the spray suspension. The use of Triton X-100 raised the mortality level to 63 and 37% on tomato and verbena, respectively, while 50 and 27% mortality followed the use of Agral on the two hosts. With the exception of glycerol no phytotoxic effects were observed by the adjuvants when applied to all five host plant species used in this study. The potential for use of the entomopathogenic nematode, S. feltiae , as a non-chemical alternative control measure for B. tabaci immatures is discussed.  相似文献

比较同一遗传背景的B型烟粉虱Bemisia tabaci Gennadius种群成虫在甘蓝、黄瓜和一品红上的适合度差异,测定3种寄主植物主要营养差异,并分析饲养不同时间后成虫体内的蛋白质、氨基酸和游离脂肪酸含量的多代变化规律。结果发现,B型烟粉虱成虫在黄瓜上的相对适合度最高,其次是甘蓝,在一品红上适合度最低,这可能与黄瓜叶片的总氮含量高和总糖含量低有关。饲养时间对烟粉虱体内主要营养物质含量没有显著影响,但寄主植物对烟粉虱成虫体内主要营养物质含量影响显著。在黄瓜上饲养烟粉虱成虫体内蛋白质含量都显著高于一品红和甘蓝上烟粉虱成虫的蛋白质含量,在黄瓜上饲养烟粉虱成虫总氨基酸含量都显著低于一品红和甘蓝上烟粉虱成虫的总氨基酸含量。相反,在3种寄主上饲养烟粉虱成虫游离脂肪酸含量都无显著差异。可见,寄主植物对B型烟粉虱体内主要营养物质组成影响显著,但饲养时间对B型烟粉虱体内主要营养物质组成影响较小。  相似文献

2008~2009年连续2年系统调查了番茄、茄子、棉花、大豆、玉米等寄主植物上烟粉虱种群发生的时间与空间动态。结果表明:不同寄主植物上的烟粉虱成虫及其伪蛹数量有显著性差异,其密度大小依次为:茄子>棉花>番茄>大豆>玉米。其中,在玉米上除了发现极少量的成虫逗留外,没有发现烟粉虱的卵及若虫。在发生的时间序列上,烟粉虱成虫及伪蛹的数量呈现为先逐渐上升后又下降的变化过程,发生高峰期集中在8月5日到8月31日,9月初以后烟粉虱数量慢慢减少。在空间分布上,表现为烟粉虱成虫喜食寄主的上部叶片。统计分析显示,寄主对烟粉虱成虫和伪蛹的数量的影响极显著,而年份对其数量的影响没有显著差异。由此得出的烟粉虱发生和达到高峰的时间,可为烟粉虱预测预报和区域性综合治理提供重要理论依据。  相似文献

Abstract The preferences of Bemisia tabaci Gennadius for five host plants: poinsettia, tomato, cabbage, sweet potato and flowering Chinese cabbage, was tested using a Y-tube olfactometer and a desiccator in the laboratory. The results show that B. tabaci adults were attracted by the odors of the five plants. The order of preference was poinsettia > flowering Chinese cabbage > sweet potato > cabbage > tomato. Preference was extremely significant between poinsettia and the other four plants, and between flowering Chinese cabbage, cabbage and tomato. There was no significant difference in preference for flowering Chinese cabbage and sweet potato, sweet potato, cabbage and tomato or between cabbage and tomato.  相似文献

烟粉虱是云南省农业生产上的重要害虫之一。通过田间系统调查和室内观察相结合,研究了烟粉虱在烟株上的垂直分布特性和在8种寄主作物上的取食、产卵趋性。(1)烟粉虱在烟株上的垂直分布特征为上部>中部>下部,8月中旬为种群高峰期,上、中、下部叶片的成虫密度分别为15.1、10.9、6.7头?片-1;(2)烟粉虱成虫的取食趋性表现为大豆>南瓜>甘薯>番茄>一品红>茄子>甘蓝>烟草,各处理间差异不显著(P>0.05);(3)产卵趋性表现为一品红>大豆>南瓜>甘薯>番茄>茄子>甘蓝>烟草,一品红与南瓜、甘蓝、茄子、甘薯、番茄、烟草处理间,以及大豆与烟草处理间存在显著差异(P<0.05),其他处理间差异不显著(P>0.05)。在所测定的8种寄主植物中,烟粉虱成虫对烟草的选择性最差,烟区规划烟田种植范围时,应避免与大豆、南瓜、甘薯、番茄等作物间作或距离太近。  相似文献

采用Y形嗅觉仪测定法和干燥器测定法研究了烟粉虱对一品红、地瓜、菜心、番茄和包菜 5种植物的定向行为 ,结果表明 :(1) 5种植物对烟粉虱均有引诱作用 ;(2 )不同种植物对烟粉虱有不同的引诱作用 ,其引诱力的顺序为 :一品红 >菜心 >地瓜 >包菜 >蕃茄 ,方差分析表明 :烟粉虱对 5种植物的定向行为差异极显著 ,LSD法测定进一步表明 :一品红与其余 4种植物差异极显著 ;菜心与包菜和番茄的差异达到显著水平 ,而与地瓜无显著差异 ;地瓜与包菜、番茄之间以及包菜与番茄之间均无差异显著性。  相似文献

The sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci biotype B is extremely polyphagous with >600 species of host plants. We hypothesized that previous experience of the whitefly on a given host plant affects their host selection and performance on the plants without previous experience. We investigated the host selection for feeding and oviposition of adults and development and survival of immatures of three host-plant-experienced populations of B. tabaci, namely Bemisia-eggplant, Bemisia-tomato and Bemisia-cucumber, on their experienced host plant and each of the three other plant species (eggplant, tomato, cucumber and pepper) without previous experience. We found that the influence of previous experience of the whiteflies varied among the populations. All populations refused pepper for feeding and oviposition, whereas the Bemisia-cucumber and the Bemisia-eggplant strongly preferred cucumber. Bemisia-tomato did not show strong preference to any of the three host palnts. Development time from egg to adult eclosion varied among the populations, being shortest on eggplant, longest on pepper, and intermediate on tomato and cucumber except for the Bemisia-cucumber developed similarly on tomato and pepper. The survivorship from egg to adult eclosion of all populations was highest on eggplant (80-98%), lowest on pepper (0-20%), and intermediate on tomato and cucumber. In conclusion, the effects of previous experience of whiteflies on host selection for feeding and oviposition, development, and survivorship varied depending on host plants, and host plants play a stronger role than previous experience. Preference of feeding and oviposition by adults may not accurately reflect host suitability of immatures. These results provided important information for understanding whitefly population dynamics and dispersal among different crop systems.  相似文献

The relationships between plant viruses, their herbivore vectors and host plants can be beneficial, neutral, or antagonistic, depending on the species involved. This variation in relationships may affect the process of biological invasion and the displacement of indigenous species by invaders when the invasive and indigenous organisms occur with niche overlap but differ in the interactions. The notorious invasive B biotype of the whitefly complex Bemisia tabaci entered China in the late 1990s and is now the predominant or only biotype in many regions of the country. Tobacco curly shoot virus (TbCSV) and Tomato yellow leaf curl China virus (TYLCCNV) are two whitefly-transmitted begomoviruses that have become widespread recently in south China. We compared the performance of the invasive B and indigenous ZHJ1 whitefly biotypes on healthy, TbCSV-infected and TYLCCNV-infected tobacco plants. Compared to its performance on healthy plants, the invasive B biotype increased its fecundity and longevity by 12 and 6 fold when feeding on TbCSV-infected plants, and by 18 and 7 fold when feeding on TYLCCNV-infected plants. Population density of the B biotype on TbCSV- and TYLCCNV-infected plants reached 2 and 13 times that on healthy plants respectively in 56 days. In contrast, the indigenous ZHJ1 performed similarly on healthy and virus-infected plants. Virus-infection status of the whiteflies per se of both biotypes showed limited effects on performance of vectors on cotton, a nonhost plant of the viruses. The indirect mutualism between the B biotype whitefly and these viruses via their host plants, and the apparent lack of such mutualism for the indigenous whitefly, may contribute to the ability of the B whitefly biotype to invade, the displacement of indigenous whiteflies, and the disease pandemics of the viruses associated with this vector.  相似文献

A strain of the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) possessing unusually high levels of resistance to a wide range of insecticides was discovered in 2004 in the course of routine resistance monitoring in Arizona. The multiply resistant insects, collected from poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. ex Klotzsch) plants purchased at a retail store in Tucson, were subjected to biotype analysis in three laboratories. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of naphthyl esterases and sequencing of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I gene (780 bp) confirmed the first detection of the Q biotype of B. tabaci in the New World. This U.S. Q biotype strain, referred to as Poinsettia'04, was highly resistant to two selective insect growth regulators, pyriproxyfen and buprofezin, and to mixtures of fenpropathrin and acephate. It was also unusually low in susceptibility to the neonicotinoid insecticides imidacloprid, acetamiprid, and thiamethoxam, relative to B biotype whiteflies. In 100 collections of whiteflies made in Arizona cotton (Gossypium spp.), vegetable, and melon (Cucumis melo L.) fields from 2001 to 2005, no Q biotypes were detected. Regions of the United States that were severely impacted by the introduction of the B biotype of B. tabaci in the 1980s would be well advised to promote measures that limit movement of the Q biotype from controlled environments into field systems and to formulate alternatives for managing this multiply-resistant biotype, in the event that it becomes more widely distributed.  相似文献

利用刺吸电波图技术研究B型、ZHJ_1型烟粉虱Bemisia tabaci(Gennadius)和温室粉虱Trialeurodes vaporariorum(Westwood)在甘蓝上的取食行为,将3种粉虱的电波图进行比较,其中,B型和ZHJ_1型烟粉虱记录到np,C,pd,E1,E2,F和G波7种波形,温室粉虱只记录到刺探波形,少有取食波形。B型的20个记录中只有1个没有持续吸食波形;ZHJ_1型的25个记录中有10个记录没有持续吸食波形;温室粉虱没有持续吸食记录。甘蓝叶片韧皮部的结构或汁液的化学成分与温室粉虱的抗性密切相关。  相似文献

粉虱蜜露是粉虱寄生性天敌搜索寄主的主要利它素源。应用离子色谱分别对甘蓝与黄瓜上B型烟粉虱(Bemisia tabaci B-biotype)蜜露以及黄瓜上温室白粉虱Trialeurodes vaporariorum蜜露的接触性利它素糖和氨基酸组分和含量进行了比较研究。结果表明:2种粉虱在不同寄主植物上的蜜露均富含糖和氨基酸,其中糖含量占绝对优势,甘蓝上B型烟粉虱蜜露、黄瓜上B型烟粉虱蜜露和黄瓜上温室白粉虱蜜露中的糖含量分别是相应氨基酸含量的42.5、2.6和5.4倍,其中糖类物质中又以寡糖含量占绝对优势,分别占89.3%、81.7%和88.2%。不同寄主植物和粉虱种类显著影响蜜露中糖和氨基酸的组成和含量。其中,甘蓝上B型烟粉虱蜜露中的寡糖以二糖占优势,占97.3%;二糖中又以蔗糖异构糖和松二糖占优势,分别占52.7%和35.4%。黄瓜上B型烟粉虱蜜露和温室白粉虱蜜露寡糖中以三糖和四糖占优势,分别占73.1%和85.4%;优势糖水苏(四)糖和松三糖分别占40.3%和 26.2%及49.9%和27.0%。甘蓝上B型烟粉虱蜜露中氨基酸以丙氨酸占优势,含量为66.5%;而黄瓜上B型烟粉虱及温室白粉虱蜜露中氨基酸以甘氨酸含量最高,分别占氨基酸总量的38.2%和51.7%。应用GC-MS对甘蓝上B型烟粉虱蜜露和黄瓜上温室白粉虱蜜露挥发物组分的鉴定结果显示,两种粉虱蜜露中共同含有的主要挥发物为邻苯二甲酸二(2-乙基)己酯。  相似文献

The role of vector–begomovirus–plant interactions in the widespread invasion by some members of the whitefly species complex Bemisia tabaci is poorly understood. The invasive B biotype of B. tabaci entered China in the late 1990s and had become the predominant or only biotype of the whitefly in many regions of the country by 2005–2006. Meanwhile epidemics of begomoviruses have been observed in many crops including tomato for which Tomato yellow leaf curl China virus (TYLCCNV) and Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) have been identified as two major disease-causing agents. Here, we conducted laboratory experiments to compare the performance of the invasive B and indigenous ZHJ1 whitefly biotypes on uninfected, TYLCCNV-infected and TYLCV-infected plants of tomato cv. Hezuo903, a cultivar that has been widely cultivated in many regions of China. The infection of tomato plants by either of the viruses had no or only marginal effects on the development, survival and fecundity of the B biotype. In contrast, survival and fecundity of the ZHJ1 biotype were significantly reduced on virus-infected plants compared to those on uninfected plants. Populations of the B biotype on uninfected and TYLCCNV-infected plants increased at similar rates, whereas population increase of the ZHJ1 biotype on TYLCCNV-infected plants was affected adversely. These asymmetric responses to virus infection of tomato plants between the B and ZHJ1 biotypes are likely to offer advantages to the B biotype in its invasion and displacement of the indigenous biotype.  相似文献

本文利用前期开发的两个寄主植物适应度评估模型对B型烟粉虱能够完成发育的23种寄主进行了寄主适应度评估,并对评估结果进行了聚类分析,分析结果显示供试烟粉虱种群存在明显的寄主偏好性,黄瓜与甘蓝为嗜好寄主,繁殖力大,若虫成活率高,非常有利于烟粉虱的种群发育;而其它寄主在营养状况、物理性状及次生化合物的综合作用下,烟粉虱的寄主植物适应度变化较大且整体低于嗜好寄主,结果暗示烟粉虱的寄主生态位可能存在从核心到周缘的分层现象。比较了两个评估模型的分析结果,虽然在低层聚类中存在差异,但高层聚类的结果趋于一致。  相似文献

In recent years, the dominant biotype of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) has shifted from biotype B to Q in many locations of China. Our field monitoring showed that B. tabaci biotype Q could be found on pepper Capsicum frutescens L. while biotype B could not be found on the plant. To study the role of the host plant in the displacement of biotype B by Q, the adult mortality, female fecundity, and adult emergence of both biotypes B and Q on different host combinations were studied using a model system involving pepper and eggplant. The results showed that pepper is not a preferred host for either biotype B or Q adults in comparison with eggplant. The negative impact of pepper to biotype B is, however, much greater than that to biotype Q. Because both the survival rates of the adult whitefly and the average number of emerged adults per female of biotype Q on pepper are higher than that of biotype B, biotype Q showed higher fitness in comparison with biotype B. Our results suggest that the existence and differential impact of a nonpreferred host might affect the population fitness and therefore could play a role in the displacement of biotype B in some regions.  相似文献

B and Q are two putative species of the Bemisia tabaci complex (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), and are among the most invasive and destructive pests of crops and horticultural plants worldwide. In China, Q predominates and is displacing B. Although researchers have proposed that the higher capacity of Q to utilize host plants plays an important role in its replacement of B, there are few relevant field surveys and experimental studies. The difference in host assessment between B and Q in multiple‐choice rather than in no‐choice situations may be essential to understanding the displacement. Here, we compared settling and oviposition preferences, and adult and nymph performance, for the putative species B and Q of the B. tabaci complex on three common host species: poinsettia [Euphorbia pulcherrima Wild. ex Klotsch (Euphorbiaceae)], cotton [Gossypium hirsutum L. (Malvaceae)], and cabbage [Brassica oleracea L. (Brassicaceae)]. Although the preferred hosts for settling and oviposition were the same as those that supported maximum fitness (adult longevity, fecundity, and nymph survivorship), these hosts differed between B and Q. When given a choice, B preferred to settle and oviposit on cabbage over poinsettia and cotton, whereas Q preferred to settle and oviposit on poinsettia and cotton over cabbage. In a no‐choice experiment, adult longevity, fecundity, and nymphal survival for B were greater on cabbage than on poinsettia and cotton, but the opposite was true for Q.  相似文献

烟粉虱Bemisia tabaci是一个复合种,它具有的生物型分化、较强的传播病毒的能力和抗药性、较快的繁殖速率等特征使其成为我国农业生产中重要害虫之一。本研究利用细胞色素线粒体氧化酶Ⅰ基因,对采集自江苏、广东和云南三省的烟粉虱样本进行了生物型鉴定,并对烟粉虱生物型与寄主植物之间的关联性开展了调查。结果表明,在广东和云南省,都存在未鉴定的土著种群与入侵的B型、Q型共存的现象;同时,在本研究中广东省尚未采集到Q型烟粉虱,而在江苏采集到的粉虱样本全部为入侵型。研究结果还表明,相对于入侵种而言,土著种群显示出更强的寄主植物趋同性;丰富的寄主植物以及本身具有的多食性特性有助于B型、Q型等生物型在世界各地的广泛入侵。  相似文献

应用RAPD-PCR技术研究了中国大陆10个烟粉虱种群的生物型情况,聚类分析表明,这10个种群中包含了3种生物型:烟粉虱B型,广西型(南宁南瓜寄主)和福建型(福州地瓜)。值得注意的是,在福建并存着两种烟粉虱生物型,即苷蓝上的B型烟粉虱和甘署上的福建福州型,研究表明烟粉虱B型已经传入中国,至少在北京,山东,新疆,福建,广东等地都有发生和分布,广西型和福建型是否中国的本地土种群还需进一步研究。  相似文献

The sweet potato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, harbors Portiera aleyrodidarum, an obligatory symbiotic bacterium, as well as several secondary symbionts including Rickettsia, Hamiltonella, Wolbachia, Arsenophonus, Cardinium and Fritschea, the function of which is unknown. Bemisia tabaci is a species complex composed of numerous biotypes, which may differ from each other both genetically and biologically. Only the B and Q biotypes have been reported from Israel. Secondary symbiont infection frequencies of Israeli laboratory and field populations of B. tabaci from various host plants were determined by PCR, in order to test for correlation between bacterial composition to biotype and host plant. Hamiltonella was detected only in populations of the B biotype, while Wolbachia and Arsenophonus were found only in the Q biotype (33% and 87% infection, respectively). Rickettsia was abundant in both biotypes. Cardinium and Fritschea were not found in any of the populations. No differences in secondary symbionts were found among host plants within the B biotype; but within the Q biotype, all whiteflies collected from sage harboured both Rickettsia and Arsenophonus, an infection frequency which was significantly higher than those found in association with all other host plants. The association found between whitefly biotypes and secondary symbionts suggests a possible contribution of these bacteria to host characteristics such as insecticide resistance, host range, virus transmission and speciation.  相似文献

Abstract Ten populations of the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) collected from eight fieed and ornamental crops from seven provinces/cities in China were determined using RAPD-PCR. Results showed that the 10 populations of B. tabaci could be classified into three distinct groups: a Biotype B group, a Guangxi group, and a Fujian group. The whiteflies in the Biotype B group were collected from sweetpotato and cotton in Beijing, tomato in Shandong, poinsettia in Shanghai and Guangdong, cabbage in Fujian, and hemp and eggplant in Xinjiang. The Guangxi group were collected from pumpkin in Naming, Guangxi, and the Fujian group, from sweetpotato in Fujian. It was notable that B. tabaci specimens collected on cabbage in Fujian belonged to the Biotype B group. It is clear that Biotype B does now occur in China, in Reijing, Shandong, Xinjiang, Shanghai, Fujian and Guangdong. It is likely that the Guangxi and Fujian groups are native to China.  相似文献
