嶂山化石地点位于淮河下游、马陵山南端的人工河——新沂河的河床上。该化石点最早报道于1953年,是淮河下游为数不多的更新世化石点之一。本文报道了嶂山化石点近年新出土的一批动物化石,动物群包括:龟鳖类、扬子鳄(相似种)、虎、淮河古菱齿象、蒙古野驴、梅氏犀、李氏野猪、河套大角鹿、葛氏斑鹿和草原野牛。嶂山的扬子鳄(相似种)是该物种在更新世化石记录中分布最北的,而草原野牛则是该物种最靠南的化石记录。嶂山的古菱齿象被归入淮河古菱齿象,因其齿板数多于纳玛古菱齿象,而牙齿尺寸大于诺氏古菱齿象。嶂山河套大角鹿的下颌提供了该物种仅有的下颊齿列长度数据,证明晚更新世的河套大角鹿具有相对弱的角枝、纤细的下颌和延长的齿列,支持了中国大角鹿属(Sinomegaceros)在角枝粗壮度、下颌肿厚度和齿列长度之间的演化关联性。嶂山动物群中蒙古野驴、河套大角鹿是典型的晚更新世物种,且成员多为绝灭种,推断年代很可能为晚更新世的早段。嶂山动物群组合反映了相对温暖湿润的气候,显示当时的骆马湖一带兼有湿地、森林和草地。嶂山化石点也为马陵山地区旧石器遗存的相关研究提供了新的生物地层学参照。  相似文献

The purported ash samara, Fraxinus flexifolia (Lesquereux) Brown (1940) from the middle Eocene Green River Formation, is shown to be the same as small inequilateral legume leaflets identified as Mimosites coloradensis Knowlton. Because the name Mimosites Bowerbank is restricted to legume pods with mimosoid affinities, the new combination Parvileguminophyllum coloradensis (Knowlton) Call and Dilcher is proposed for the previously supposed samara, here recognized as a leaflet, and for leaflets currently placed in M. coloradensis. A lectotype is designated from among Knowlton's original specimens. The transfer of Brown's so-called Fraxinus samara to Parvileguminophyllum coloradensis (Knowlton) Call and Dilcher comb. nov. removes Fraxinus fruits from the list of macrofossil remains presently recognized in the Green River flora. The distribution of Fraxinus samaras in Paleogene assemblages from North America is briefly discussed. The paper concludes with a discussion of nomenclatural problems that may arise when two or more fossil organ types are united under a common name. We argue that this practice should be avoided except when the organs are found in organic connection, or when other indisputable evidence of their conspecificity is preserved, such as shared anatomical or biochemical features. By itself, the co-occurrence of disassociated fossil organs at different localities is only circumstantial evidence of their conspecificity.  相似文献

A level with fern stumps was discovered in the Aptian Douiret Formation, South-Tunisia. These stumps are preserved as external moulds or casts, without any preservation of anatomical structures. These stumps are considered to be affiliated with the numerous fossil plants assigned to the fern genera Alstaettia and Piazopteris that are widely distributed in coeval strata from the same region, either as leaf imprints or as permineralized remains. The record of in situ fossil forests for the Southern Hemisphere reveals that their systematic components are different, i.e. mainly corystosperms and/or conifers, and rarely under tidal influence. The way this fern grove settled in a margino-littoral environment is discussed.  相似文献

New primate fossils have been recovered from the late Oligocene (Colhuehuapian) localities of Gaiman and Sacanana in Patagonian Argentina. The new fossils are provisionally allocated to Dolichocebus gaimanensis and Tremacebus harringtoni, the only primates previously described from these localities. These new dental remains are more primitive than the teeth of any previously known platyrrhines, living or fossil, and conform extremely well with the hypothetical ancestral morphotype for New World monkeys suggested by several authors. They are also very similar to the teeth of Oligocene catarrhines from Egypt such as Aegyptopithecus zeuxis.  相似文献

最近在贵州毕节麻窝口洞发现了3枚古人类牙齿化石和伴生的哺乳动物群。其中,古人类牙齿经初步研究可归入解剖学上的现代人,而与古人类相伴的大、小哺乳动物化石,经初步鉴定共计8目20科43属53种。本文系统记述了该动物群中大哺乳动物的典型代表——长鼻类化石,共2属2种:东方剑齿象(Stegodon orientalis)和亚洲象(Elephas maximus)。麻窝口洞的长鼻类缺失我国南方早更新世的典型种类——中华乳齿象(Sinomastodon)和华南剑齿象(Stegodon huananensis),具有从典型的中更新世大熊猫-剑齿象动物群(Ailuropoda-Stegodon fauna)向晚更新世亚洲象动物群(Asian elephant fauna)过渡的特征。依动物群的性质和地貌地层的特征,毕节麻窝口洞的智人及伴生动物群的地质时代很可能为中更新世晚期或晚更新世早期,这与堆积物的光释光年代测定的初步结果(距今约11.2-17.8万年)基本吻合。麻窝口洞东方剑齿象与亚洲象的组合明显具有东洋界亚热带动物群的特点,指示温暖潮湿的气候,这些长鼻类与智人等生存于近水的森林和灌丛中,并镶嵌了一些草地。  相似文献

In this paper, we describe a new species Magnolia nanningensis sp. nov., based on exceptionally well‐preserved mummified fossil woods from the late Oligocene of the Nanning Basin, Guangxi, South China. The features of these woods indicate a close affinity to the section Michelia of the subgenus Yulania belonging to the genus Magnolia sensu lato (Magnoliaceae). Magnolia nanningensis is the first fossil record of the section Michelia from China, the modern diversity center of this group. These mummified woods provide fossil evidence supporting molecular dating that estimated an Oligocene age for divergence of the tropical evergreen section Michelia and the temperate deciduous section Yulania. Helical thickenings on vessel walls and a high degree of vessel grouping found in these fossil woods could be adaptive to temporary, possibly seasonal, droughts and, as suggested by other woods from the Nanning Basin, could be indicative of a monsoon‐influenced tropical climate in Guangxi during the late Oligocene. Helical thickenings have not been reported in magnoliaceous fossil woods prior to the Oligocene. The appearance of this trait was presumably a response to abrupt climate cooling near the Eocene–Oligocene boundary, followed by increase in climate seasonality. The associated increase of latitudinal zonation might be a possible trigger for divergence between the tropical evergreen sect. Michelia and the temperate deciduous sect. Yulania.  相似文献

近年来,笔者在系统研究了新疆准噶尔盆地南缘的古生代植物化石后,发现了两种早已绝灭了的科达(Cordaites)的生殖器官化石,一种是长苞科达穗(Cordaianthus volkmannii(Ett.)Zeiller),另一种是短苞科达穗(比较种)(Cordaianthus of.curtus Sze);同时还发现了一种最古老的松柏类化石——双羽杉(比较种)(Walchia of.bipinata Gu et Zhi)这些化石产生在准噶尔盆地南缘的乌鲁木齐市东南的下芨芨槽子群中,其地质时代隶属於早二叠晚期(P12)。  相似文献

Diverse pollen and spore assemblages (microfloras) are preserved in organic clays and lignites associated with fossil tree remains in the Forest Bed. At present, these microfloras provide the only reliable basis for determining the age, composition, structure and affinity of the Forest Bed community. The Bed is suggested to be Middle? Miocene to Early Pliocene (age range Oligocene–Early Pliocene) based on the time distribution of a number of rare pollen types and the present-day ecology of their nearest living relatives in central–southern America and the southwest Pacific. The wet forest community whose remains form the Forest Bed was a form of broadleaf-gymnosperm temperate rainforest in which Dacrydium, Lagarostrobos and Podocarpus are likely to have formed an overstorey above a closed canopy dominated by Nothofagus (Nothofagus) spp. The latter subgenus is now endemic to ±uniformly wet regions in southern South America whilst two of the tall gymnosperms (Dacrydium, Lagarostrobos) are now endemic to the southwest Pacific region. An extinct, probable shrub-sized, conifer (Podosporites microsaccatus) appears to have formed the ground cover. Ferns and fern allies were very rare, in contrast to most living Nothofagus-gymnosperm communities. Fossil pollen and spore types produced by uncommon subcanopy tree, shrub and fern species potentially provide a means for more accurately dating the deposit once their time of first occurrence and extinction at subantarctic latitudes in the southwest Atlantic region is established (nearest living equivalents given in parentheses) — Clavatipollenites cf glarius (Hedyosmum), Thymelaepollis sp. (Ovidia-type) and Cyatheacidites annulatus (Lophosoria). This will require palynostratigraphic analysis of Late Palaeogene–Neogene sediments recovered from basins surrounding the Falkland Islands, for example from DSDP Site 329 drilled on the Maurice Ewing Bank at the eastern margin of the Falkland Plateau.  相似文献

The ichnogenus Schaubcylindrichnus has been considered as a cluster of multiple J-shaped tubes, all of which show congruency. Based on such a reconstruction, the trace fossil has commonly been regarded as dwelling tubes of gregarious, head-down deposit-feeding animals.

Well-preserved specimens of Schaubcylindrichnus are found in Miocene and Pleistocene strata of Japan. The trace fossil consists of a bundle of closely spaced, thickly lined tubes, each of which shows a gentle bow-like bend curving downward in a vertical to oblique plane. As individual tubes in a single bundle frequently show size-gradation of diameter, branching and/or cross-cutting, it is probable that the bundle was formed through successive burrowing by a solitary producer. In a longitudinal section of well-preserved specimens, a funnel-like, sediment-filled structure, which is attached to an upper end of a limb of the bow-shaped bundle, is observed. At the other end of the limb, there is a mound-like structure of sediment that is piled up from the bedding surface. The trace fossil was probably a burrow system of a solitary funnel-feeding animal, like an enteropneust.

According to comparisons with type specimens of the ichnospecies of Schaubcylindrichnus, namely, topotypes of Schaubcylindrichnus coronus and holotype and paratypes of S. freyi, S. freyi can be regarded as a junior synonym of S. coronus. As the topotype specimens of S. coronus have many common features with the traces in Japan, the latter should be included in the former. S. coronus therefore is concluded as the burrow system of a solitary funnel feeder.  相似文献

Abstract:  Bulk screening of Early Cretaceous (Barremian) Wessex Formation strata exposed on the south-east coast of the Isle of Wight, southern England, has resulted in the recovery of neoselachian shark teeth referred to the scyliorhinid Palaeoscyllium . These are the first neoselachian remains from the British Wealden Group and represent the geologically oldest neoselachian yet recovered from a freshwater deposit. This is also the only known example of a non-marine occurrence of a member of the Scyliorhinidae.  相似文献

As the most common and best preserved remains in the fossil record, teeth are central to our understanding of evolution. However, many evolutionary analyses based on dental traits overlook the constraints that limit dental evolution. These constraints are diverse, ranging from developmental interactions between the individual elements of a homologous series (the whole dentition) to functional constraints related to occlusion. This study evaluates morphological integration in the hominin dentition and its effect on dental evolution in an extensive sample of Plio- and Pleistocene hominin teeth using geometric morphometrics and phylogenetic comparative methods. Results reveal that premolars and molars display significant levels of covariation; that integration is stronger in the mandibular dentition than in the maxillary dentition; and that antagonist teeth, especially first molars, are strongly integrated. Results also show an association of morphological integration and evolution. Stasis is observed in elements with strong functional and/or developmental interactions, namely in first molars. Alternatively, directional evolution (and weaker integration) occurs in the elements with marginal roles in occlusion and mastication, probably in response to other direct or indirect selective pressures. This study points to the need to reevaluate hypotheses about hominin evolution based on dental characters, given the complex scenario in which teeth evolve.  相似文献

Tooth replacement poses many questions about development, pattern formation, tooth attachment mechanisms, functional morphology and the evolution of vertebrate dentitions. Although most vertebrate species have polyphyodont dentitions, detailed knowledge of tooth structure and replacement is poor for most groups, particularly actinopterygians. We examined the oral dentition of the bluefish, Pomatomus saltatrix, a pelagic and coastal marine predator, using a sample of 50 individuals. The oral teeth are located on the dentary and premaxillary bones, and we scored each tooth locus in the dentary and premaxillary bones using a four-part functional classification: absent (A), incoming (I), functional (F=fully ankylosed) or eroding (E). The homodont oral teeth of Pomatomus are sharp, deeply socketed and firmly ankylosed to the bone of attachment. Replacement is intraosseus and occurs in alternate tooth loci with long waves of replacement passing from rear to front. The much higher percentage of functional as opposed to eroding teeth suggests that replacement rates are low but that individual teeth are quickly lost once erosion begins. Tooth number increases ontogenetically, ranging from 15–31 dentary teeth and 15–39 premaxillary teeth in the sample studied. Teeth increase in size with every replacement cycle. Remodeling of the attachment bone occurs continuously to accommodate growth. New tooth germs originate from a discontinuous dental lamina and migrate from the lingual (dentary) or labial (premaxillary) epithelium through pores in the bone of attachment into the resorption spaces beneath the existing teeth. Pomatomus shares unique aspects of tooth replacement with barracudas and other scombroids and this supports the interpretation that Pomatomus is more closely related to scombroids than to carangoids.  相似文献

We describe six specimens consisting of cranial remains and associated partial presacral axial series belonging to ornithuromorph birds from the Changma locality of the Lower Cretacous Xiagou Formation of northwestern Gansu Province, China. Comparison among specimens is limited by the paucity of overlapping elements, their differing exposed views, and, in some specimens, poor preservation. Despite this, three separate taxa are represented, evidenced by differences in their dentary dentitions: one specimen is edentulous, another has sharp, closely spaced, relatively high-crowned and peg-like teeth, and a third preserves blunt, relatively low-crowned teeth placed in a communal groove, a morphology previously reported among adult birds only in Hesperornithiformes. We propose that the high-crowned specimen may be referred to Gansus yumenensis based on shared similarities with the closely related Iteravis huchzermeyeri, including a very similar dentition and an edentulous premaxilla with elongate, unfused frontal processes and no palatal processes. The two other specimens are considered new taxa, for which we erect the names Meemannavis ductrix gen. et sp. nov. and Brevidentavis zhangi gen. et sp. nov. These new specimens confirm that the Changma locality is dominated by ornithuromorph birds and contribute to a better understanding of this important avifauna. The observed variation in dental morphology hints at trophic diversity like that observed in ornithuromorphs from the penecontemporaneous Jehol Group of northeastern China.  相似文献

This paper describes three fossil woods, which were firstly found in Zigong city, Sichuan Province, China. The localities of the fossil woods are close to the locality of the famous Dashanpu dinosaur quarry of Zigong. The strata of the fossil woods beating are Xiashaximiao Formation and Xintiangou Formation of the Middle Jurassic, approximately match the strata of the Dashanpu dinosaurs. According to the structures of the secondary xylem, the fossil woods belonged to the primitive conifer genus-Araucarioxylon. Because it was comparatively and obviously different from the other species in this genus, it is assigned as a new species: A. zigongensis. As there was neither fossil leaf nor fossil pollen or spore found in the dinosaur bearing strata before, the discovery of these fossil woods might bear some important significance in the dinosaur research.  相似文献

禄丰古猿蝴蝶种 (Lufengpithecus hudienensis) 也称蝴蝶古猿,是重要的早期人科成员,化石产自云南元谋盆地竹棚-小河及雷老两个地点群,其年代为中新世晚期。上世纪八、九十年代的发掘工作共获得幼年个体颅骨1具、残上颌骨10件、残下颌骨17件及1500多枚单个牙齿。受限于当时的技术条件,蝴蝶古猿牙齿内部结构及三维形态一直未有报道和对比研究。本文首次使用高精度CT配合三维几何形态测量方法,对6枚产自小河地点的蝴蝶古猿下颌第四前臼齿的釉质-齿质交界面形态进行了观察和对比,对比材料包括步氏巨猿、猩猩(化石)、大猩猩、黑猩猩及现代人。多变量分析显示,蝴蝶古猿釉质-齿质交界面几何形态接近于本文所涉及的大型猿类对比标本,但并没有表现出与某一特定类群的相似性;咬合面轮廓狭长,前凹尺寸明显小于后凹;整体形态介于齿质尖较高的大猩猩和齿质尖较低、釉质-齿质交界面形态扁平的巨猿、猩猩和黑猩猩之间。本文所观察到的类群之间的异同可能与趋同演化有关,也需要更多数据的进一步验证。将釉质-齿质交界面的三维几何形态和其他牙齿内部结构的信息(如釉质厚度及其三维分布规律等)综合,有助于进一步讨论蝴蝶古猿的分类学、系统发育和食性。  相似文献

华南和东南亚发现大量更新世的猩猩牙齿化石。本研究应用CT扫描三维重建的技术方法研究了广西更新世化石猩猩牙齿釉质厚度,并与现生类人猿、现代人、化石类人猿以及早期人类进行比较分析。结果显示:广西猩猩同类牙齿的釉质厚度与牙齿大小相关性很小;臼齿和前臼齿釉质厚度在上下颌之间不存在显著性差异;来自广西不同地区的猩猩化石牙釉质厚度无显著差异。与早期人科成员相比,广西猩猩的牙釉质相对较薄,平均与相对釉质厚度值都明显小于南方古猿、傍人。与早期人属相比,小于直立人、尼人以及非洲和欧洲的早期人属化石。与现代人和现生灵长类相比,广西化石猩猩釉质厚度明显大于大部分猴类和非洲大猿;平均釉质厚度稍大于现生猩猩,而与现代人更为接近;相对釉质厚度小于现代人,而与现生猩猩差异不大,都属于偏厚型釉质。本文讨论了釉质厚度与系统分类演化、食性适应的相关问题,作者推测釉质厚度可能是物种的特征属性,与牙齿功能适应有密切关联。  相似文献
