In this study, the ability of algae to treat a wood-based pulp and paper industry wastewater was investigated. Tests were performed in batch reactors seeded with a mixed culture of algae. Under different lighting and initial wastewater strength conditions, changes in COD, AOX and color contents of reactors were followed with time. Algae were found to remove up to 58% of COD, 84% of color and 80% of AOX from pulp and paper industry wastewaters. No remarkable differences were observed in COD and color when light intensity and wastewater strength were changed, while AOX removals were strongly affected. Algal species identification studies revealed that some green algae (Chlorella) and diatom species were dominant in the treatment. The study also showed that algae grew mixotrophically, while the main mechanism of color and organics removal from pulping effluents was partly metabolism and partly metabolic conversion of colored and chlorinated molecules to non-colored and non-chlorinated molecules. Adsorption onto algal biomass was not so effective.  相似文献

Eight groups of citrus varieties grown in Spain were included in this study. Citrus pulp composition was (dry matter basis) 60–65% peel, 30–35% segment pulp and 0–10% seeds. Citrus seeds had a high percentage of protein, ether extract and crude fibre. Segment pulp contained slightly less fibre than citrus pulp. The proximate composition of citrus pulp was similar to that of the peel fraction and did not differ from previous results. Significant differences in fibre and acid detergent lignin of the dried citrus pulp samples were found between varieties.The drying process was studied. Temperatures over 130°C and the addition of calcium hydroxide affected some fractions of the pulp, mainly by increasing ash and fibre contents.  相似文献

Microalgae have been used commercially as a feedstock for the production of high-value compounds, pigments, cosmetics, and nutritional supplements. In addition, because of their rapid growth rates, high photosynthetic efficiency, and high lipid and protein content, commodity products including biodiesel, feed supplements, and polyunsaturated fatty acids derived from algal biomass are of current interest. Since microalgae lack non-photosynthetic structures and float in water, they do not need massive amounts of structural cellulose found in land plants. Thus, under optimal culture conditions, some oleaginous species can allocate up to 70 % of their biomass to lipids. Lipid production and its regulation in microalgae are species-specific and influenced by environmental conditions. Various strategies have been developed to improve lipid productivity and fatty acid composition to meet specific production goals. Manipulation of physiochemical parameters, trophic modes, and nutrient levels, known as process engineering, is a simple approach that leads to desired alterations in the biochemical composition of algal biomass, including lipid quantity and quality. In this paper, we review the effects of manipulating biochemical parameters such as necessary nutrients (C, N, P, S, Fe, and Si), NaCl concentration, and pH of culture medium to optimize lipid content and profile in some algae strains with commercial potential.  相似文献

Recent declines in coral abundance accompanied by increases in macroalgal cover on Florida reefs highlight the importance of competition for space between these groups. This paper documents the frequency of coral-algal interactions on the Northern Florida Reef Tract and evaluates the effects of grazer exclusions and experimental algal addition on growth and tissue mortality of three coral species, Siderastrea siderea, Porites astreoides, and Montastraea faveolata. The frequency of interactions between corals and macroalgae was high as more than 50% of the basal perimeter of colonies was in contact with macroalgae; turf forms, Halimeda spp., and Dictyota spp. were the most common groups in contact with corals. Decreased grazing pressure resulted in significant increases in algal biomass within cages, and caged corals showed species-specific susceptibility to increased algal biomass. While no effects were detected for S. siderea, significant decreases in growth rates were documented for caged P. astreoides which had growth rates three to four times lower than uncaged colonies. When an algal addition treatment was included to duplicate maximum algal biomass levels documented for reefs in the area, colonies of P. astreoides in the algal addition treatment had growth rates up to ten times lower than uncaged colonies. High susceptibility to algal overgrowth was also found for the reef-building coral M. faveolata, which experienced significant tissue mortality under both uncaged (5.2% decrease in live tissue area per month) and caged (10.2% per month) conditions. The documented effects of increased algal biomass on coral growth and tissue mortality suggest a potential threat for the long-term survivorship and growth of corals in the Florida Reef Tract if present rates of algal growth and space utilization are maintained.  相似文献

为明确不同盐胁迫对柳枝稷生物量、品质及光合生理的影响,以无盐胁迫作为对照(CK),选取0.40%Na Cl、0.80%Na2SO4和0.80%Na HCO3进行了土柱试验。结果表明:(1)与CK相比,Na Cl、Na2SO4、Na HCO3胁迫下柳枝稷地上生物量、地下生物量、总生物量、籽粒产量及根冠比均显著降低(P0.05),总生物量分别降低49.39%、60.52%、76.45%,Na HCO3对柳枝稷的生长抑制作用最强,Na Cl最弱;(2)Na Cl胁迫下柳枝稷地上生物质灰分含量显著增高14.89%,Na2SO4胁迫下硫(S)含量显著增高262.32%,纤维素含量显著降低13.71%,Na HCO3胁迫下钾(K)含量显著增高54.95%,半纤维素含量显著增高10.87%,灰分和S含量的增高不利于柳枝稷地上生物质的燃烧利用,纤维素含量的降低和半纤维素含量的增高不利于其转化利用;(3)Na Cl、Na2SO4、Na HCO3胁迫下柳枝稷叶片净光合速率(Pn)分别显著降低21.89%、29.54%和24.59%,气孔限制因素可能是其光合作用受到抑制、生物量下降的关键因素。  相似文献

The population dynamics of the citrus nematode, Tylenchulus semipenetrans, on navel orange trees was studied from January 2012 to September 2012. The highest population of the citrus nematode appeared in May 2012 in the soil of navel orange trees, and the highest nematode population in roots appeared in August in the same year. Control of the citrus nematode by using smashed garlic cloves, powders of olive leaves and orange peels, an organic manure, chicken litter, either alone or in combination with a biocide, and sincocin compared to two nematicides, fenamiphos 10%G and oxamyl 24%L, was carried out in April 2012 .The best results for controlling the citrus nematode were obtained four months after the addition of the tested materials in soil; the highest nematode percentages reduction obtained were 90.9%, for smashed garlic cloves, and 72.8%, for chicken litter. On roots, the best results were 92.3% for garlic cloves and 92.0% for oxamyl, one month after application. The concomitant treatments of sincocin plus garlic clove or sicocin plus chicken litter were most effective in managing T. semipenetrans on navel orange trees after four and five months of application.  相似文献

The effects of the ripeness stage of banana (Musa AAA) and plantain (Musa AAB) peels on neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre, cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, pectin contents, and pectin chemical features were studied. Plantain peels contained a higher amount of lignin but had a lower hemicellulose content than banana peels. A sequential extraction of pectins showed that acid extraction was the most efficient to isolate banana peel pectins, whereas an ammonium oxalate extraction was more appropriate for plantain peels. In all the stages of maturation, the pectin content in banana peels was higher compared to plantain peels. Moreover, the galacturonic acid and methoxy group contents in banana peels were higher than in plantain peels. The average molecular weights of the extracted pectins were in the range of 132.6-573.8 kDa and were not dependant on peel variety, while the stage of maturation did not affect the dietary fibre yields and the composition in pectic polysaccharides in a consistent manner. This study has showed that banana peels are a potential source of dietary fibres and pectins.  相似文献

通过分析测定生物量、叶绿素a含量以及叶绿素荧光参数,研究了3种柑橘类果皮甲醇提取液对铜绿微囊藻生长的影响。结果表明,3种提取液都能有效抑制铜绿微囊藻的生长、叶绿素a合成与光合系统Ⅱ(PSⅡ)活性,并且抑制效果随着作用浓度增加而增强。3种提取液抑制作用强弱的顺序为:蜜橘〉西柚〉脐橙。当蜜橘皮提取液浓度大于1.10g/L时,抑藻效果显著(P〈0.05),培养9d后对铜绿微囊藻生长的抑制率达到86.4%,且在实验期间抑制作用没有减弱。当脐橙皮与西柚皮提取液的浓度大于3.31g/L时,抑藻效果显著(P〈0.05),但培养5d后抑制作用开始减弱。据此推测,3种柑橘类果皮提取液中存在一类或几类物质,能够抑制铜绿微囊藻的叶绿素a合成,降低PSⅡ活性,从而降低其光合作用效率,导致铜绿微囊藻的生长受到抑制。且这类物质能自然降解,随着作用时间的延长,其抑藻效果也逐渐消失。  相似文献

Hemicelluloses as matrix substances showed an important role in nanofibrillation of wood pulp. Never-dried and once-dried pulps with different amounts of hemicelluloses were fibrillated using a grinding treatment. The degree of fibrillation was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy observation of the fibrillated pulps and light transmittance measurements of the fibrillated pulp/acrylic resin composites. With a one-pass grinding treatment, the once-dried pulp with higher hemicellulose content was fibrillated into 10-20 nm wide fibers as easily as the never-dried pulps, while the once-dried pulp with lower hemicellulose content was not fibrillated into uniform nanosized fibers. This result indicates that hemicelluloses act as inhibitors of the coalescence of microfibrils during drying and facilitate the nanofibrillation of once-dried pulp. Furthermore, hemicelluloses provide adhesion between nanofibers, contributing to reduction of thermal expansion and enhancement of mechanical properties in the composites.  相似文献

Fermentation kinetics, digestibility, faecal characteristics and bacterial populations (aerobes, anaerobes, lactobacilli, lactic acid bacteria, enterococci, coliforms and clostridia) of dog food mixed with citrus pulp and apple pomace were evaluated. The in vitro gas production of a pre-digested dog food mixed with 0, 30, 50 and 70 g/kg dry matter (DM) of citrus pulp or apple pomace was measured, and also an experiment with dogs fed the same dog food with or without the addition of 70 g/kg of either fresh citrus pulp or apple pomace was conducted. Gas production increased linearly (p < 0.001) and quadratically (p < 0.001) as fibre levels augmented. The inclusion of fibre sources in the diets resulted in higher faecal output (p = 0.005) and defecation frequency (p < 0.001), and lower faecal pH (p < 0.001) and digestibility values (p < 0.01). Faecal consistencies and microbial populations did not differ among treatments. The addition of fresh citrus and apple was effective to stimulate the hindgut fermentation, but slightly depressed the digestion.  相似文献

Isoproteic diets (19% CP) containing 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75% of citrus pulp were supplied ad libitum to 15 male New Zealand rabbits aged 6 weeks. In another experiment, pure citrus pulp (6.5% CP) was also offered.Food intake decreased when the diet contained 45% or more citrus pulp. Digestibility of DM, OM and fibre tended to increase as the inclusion of citrus pulp increased. Digestibility of OM ranged from 67 to 89% on rations containing up to 45 and 100% citrus pulp, respectively. Digestibility of fibre increased from 16.7 to 58.7 and 83.4% on the rations containing from 0 to 75 and 100% citrus pulp.Between 0 and 75% citrus pulp, digestibility and retention of N were not altered significantly, the respective values being approximately 75 and 45%. Balance decreased from 1.9 g N/d on the diet without pulp to 1.17 on the diet with 75% pulp, and was negative for 100% pulp.The fattening of 73 rabbit litters from weaning to 2 kg live weight was studied. Diets including 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75% citrus pulp were supplied ad libitum. Daily gain, food intake and feed efficiency values were about 35 g/d, 90 g DM/day and 2.5 for all diets up to 45% citrus pulp, but were notably worse with 60 and 75% citrus pulp. The last two diets produced a very high mortality (18.2 and 35%, respectively). Differences due to diet were significantly different (P < 0.01), but those due to sex were not.  相似文献

Crude glycerin, a potential energy source for ruminant animals, has been evaluated, mainly, in diets with high starch content. However, a limit number of studies have evaluated the inclusion of crude glycerin in low starch diets. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the association of crude glycerin with corn grain or citrus pulp on carcass traits and meat quality of Nellore bulls (n=30, 402±31 kg initial weight). The treatment consisted of: CON=control, without crude glycerin; CG10=10% of crude glycerin and corn grain; CG15=15% of crude glycerin and corn grain; CP10=10% of crude glycerin and citrus pulp; CP15=15% of crude glycerin and citrus pulp. The performance parameters and carcass traits were not affected by treatments (P>0.05). The inclusion of crude glycerin decreased yellow color intensity and increased fatty acids pentadecanoic and heptadecenoic in meat (P<0.05), without affecting neither the concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids nor the relationship of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. The association of crude glycerin with corn or citrus pulp has no adverse effects on carcass characteristics and meat quality.  相似文献

Ecological stoichiometry describes the biochemical constraints of trophic interactions emerging from the different nutrient content and nutrient demand of producers and consumers, respectively. Most research on this topic originates from well-mixed pelagic food webs, whereas the idea has received far less attention in spatially structured habitats. Here, we test how light as well as grazing and nutrient regeneration by consumers affects growth and biomass of benthic primary producers. In the first laboratory experiment, we manipulated grazer presence (two different snail species plus ungrazed control), in the second experiment we factorially combined manipulation of grazer presence and light intensity. We monitored snail and periphyton biomass as well as dissolved and particulate nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) over time. Grazers significantly reduced algal biomass in both experiments. Grazers affected periphyton nutrient content depending on the prevailing nutrient limitation and their own body stoichiometry. In the nitrogen (N-) limited first experiment, grazers increased N both in the periphyton and in the water column. The effect was stronger for grazers with lower N-content. In the phosphorus (P-) limited second experiment, grazers increased the P-content of the periphyton, but the grazer with lower N-content had additionally positive effects on algal N. Light reduction did not affect periphyton biomass, but increased chlorophyll-, N- and P-content of the periphyton. These experiments revealed that the indirect effects of grazers on periphyton were bound by stoichiometric constraints of nutrient incorporation and excretion.  相似文献

Digestibility, N retention and energy values of isoproteic rations containing 10% alfalfa hay and a concentrate mixture (16% CP) with 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90% citrus pulp, were determined with 13 wethers. In a second experiment, 18 growing lambs (13.5 kg initial weight) were used to determine the values previously cited when fed on rations (16% CP) containing 0, 30 and 60% citrus pulp.Digestibility coefficients of the various feed fractions were not altered when citrus pulp was added to the diet except that for the ADF fraction which increased (P < 0.01). Organic matter and fibre digestibility were affected by age, the maximum figures being obtained with mature animals; metabolizable and digestible energy values followed a similar trend. Retention of N was inversely related to level of citrus pulp and age.Three growth trials were carried out in which daily gains, feed efficiency, dressing percentage and ruminal keratosis were studied in 108 lambs divided into groups of three and starting the experiment at an average weight of 15 kg. The animals were fed on diets containing 0–60% citrus pulp in the concentrate and 10–15% alfalfa hay. The parameters were not altered significantly up to 30% incorporation of citrus pulp, but if higher quantities were added the animal response was poorer.  相似文献

Cassava peels provide a cheap non-food biomass waste that can be hydrolyzed to simple sugars as a useful feedstock. Unlike most crop wastes, they have high starch content as well as lignocellulose. In this study, an enzymatic treatment of cassava peels by various concentrations of amylase and glucoamylase is considered. Steam explosion pre-treatments reduced rate and yield of hydrolysis. Milled peels suspended at 10% w/v yielded a maximum reducing sugar of 0.41?g (as glucose) per gram of peels. HPLC analysis showed that levels of soluble oligosaccharides remained low throughout. A pretreatment with amylase at 95?°C slightly increased rates although final yield was the same. Additional treatment with cellulolytic enzymes increases the total hydrolysis yield to 0.61?g (as glucose) per gram of peels representing 91% of the carbohydrate in cassava peels.  相似文献

The potential interactions of grazing, nutrients and light in influencing autotroph species diversity have not previously been considered. Earlier studies have shown that grazing and nutrients interact in determining autotroph species diversity, since grazing decreases species diversity when nutrients (i.e. N or P) limit autotroph growth, but increases it when nutrients are replete. We hypothesized that increased light intensities would intensify the interactions between grazing and nutrients on algal species diversity, resulting in even stronger reductions in algal species diversity through grazing under nutrient–poor conditions, and to even stronger increases of algal species diversity through grazing under nutrient-rich conditions. We studied the effects of grazing (absent, present), nutrients (ambient, N + P enriched) and light (low light, high light) on benthic algal diversity and periphyton C:nutrient ratios (which can indicate algal nutrient limitation) in a factorial laboratory experiment, using the gastropod grazer Viviparus viviparus. Grazing decreased algal biomass and algal diversity, but increased C:P and N:P ratios of periphyton. Grazing also affected periphyton species composition, by decreasing the proportion of Spirogyra sp. and increasing the proportion of species in the Chaetophorales. Grazing effects on diversity as well as on periphyton N:P ratios were weakened when nutrients were added (interaction between grazing and nutrients). Chlorophyll a (Chl a) per area increased with nutrient addition and decreased with high light intensities. Light did not increase the strength of the interaction between grazing and nutrients on periphytic algal diversity. This study shows that nutrient addition substantially reduced the negative effects of grazing on periphytic algal diversity, whereas light did not interact with grazing or nutrient enrichment in determining periphytic algal diversity.  相似文献

Using stream-side, flow-through channels, I tested for the effects of nutrients (NU) (nitrogen plus phosphorus), irradiance (L), and snail grazing (G) on a benthic algal community in a small, forested stream. Grazed communities were-dominated by a chlorophyte (basal cells ofStigeoclonium) and a cyanophyte (Chamaesiphon investiens), whereas ungrazed communities were comprised almost entirely of diatoms, regardless of nutrient and light levels. Snails maintained low algal biomass in all grazed treatments, presumably by consuming increased algal production in treatments to which L and NU were increased. When nutrients were increased, cellular nutrient content increased under ambient conditions (shaded, grazed) and biomass and productivity increased when snails were removed and light was increased. Together, nutrients and light had positive effects and grazing had negative effects on biomass (chlorophylla, AFDM, algal biovolume) and chlorophyll-and areal-specific productivity in ANOVAs. However, in most cases, only means from treatments in which all three factors were manipulated (ungrazed, +NU&L treatments) were significantly different from controls; effects of single factors were generally undetectable. These results indicate that all three factors simultaneously limited algal biomass and productivity in this stream during the summer months. Additionally, the effects of these factors in combination were in some cases different from the effects of single factors. For example, light had slight negative effects on some biomass parameters when added at ambient snail densities and nutrient concentrations, but had strong positive effects in conjunction with nutrient addition and snail removal. This study demonstrates that algal biomass and productivity can be under multiple constraints by irradiance, nutrients, and herbivores and indicates the need to employ multifactor experiments to test for such interactive effects.  相似文献
