The effects of sheep urine deposition volume (0, 1, 2 or 4 L/m2) and deposition stage of plant growth (vegetative or reproductive) on the number and size of tillers/branches and the biomass of Stipa bungeana, Artemisia capillaries and Lespedeza davurica in a Chinese steppe grassland were determined. The results indicate that the response of the three plant species to sheep urine deposition differs, and is influenced by both urine deposition volume and deposition stage of plant growth. Urine deposition had a short-term scorch effect on grassland plants, which mainly occurred in the inner zone of urine patches. Urine application had a long-term positive effect on S. bungeana and a long-term negative effect on A. capillaries and L. davurica, which lasted at least two years and decreased with decrease in urine deposition volume. All species growing in the inner zone of urine patches were scorched by sheep urine deposition, some species in the marginal zone of patches were also scorched, while no species were scorched in the outer zones. The reproductive and vegetative stages of A. capillaries and the reproductive stages of S. bungeana and L. davurica were sensitive to sheep urine deposition.  相似文献

连续2a研究了施尿量(4,2,1L/m2和0 L/m2)和施尿期(营养期和生殖期)对典型草原多年生密丛型禾本科植物长芒草(Stipa bungeana)、多年生轴根型菊科植物茵陈蒿(Artemisia capillaries)和多年生半灌木豆科植物胡枝子(Lespedeza davurica)生长特性的影响.结果表明,不同植物对畜尿沉积的响应不同,并受施尿量和施尿时期的作用.畜尿对草地植物具短期(4周内)灼烧作用,灼烧主要发生于尿斑中心;畜尿对长芒草生长具长期正效应(4周后),对茵陈蒿和胡枝子生长具持续负效应,此效应持续至少2a且随施尿量降低而降低.一般尿斑中心(4 L/m2)所有植物伤害,尿斑中心至边缘圈植物局部器官(嫩枝叶)伤害(2~4 L/m2),尿斑外渗区域(1~2 L/m2)所有植物无显著伤害.高施尿量(2~4 L/m2)下,长芒草具较高的年均分蘖数和地上生物量,而胡枝子和茵陈蒿与之相反.尿斑处3种植物具较高的分蘖(枝)死亡率和死物质率.茵陈蒿对各时期施尿均反应敏感,胡枝子和长芒草对生殖期施尿更敏感.尿斑处禾草枯黄期延迟,返青期提前.  相似文献

Synthetic sheep urine additions (59 g N m−2) were made to pastures on two soils, at Fasset, a semi-natural grassland, and Strathfinella, an improved pasture. Urine was applied to microplots in May and the soil, grass and soil solution analyzed 1, 2, 4, 5, 12 and 23 weeks after the addition. At Fasset, the grass was scorched by urine and the standing biomass decreased compared to the control, increasing only after 5 weeks. The absence of scorching at the Strathfinella site was attributed to a greater biomass of root mat to buffer the roots from exposure to NH3and a greater rainfall immediately following treatment. Scorching reduced the uptake of N and it was not clear if the greater contents of NH4 + and the increases in soil pH at Fasset compared with Strathfinella were the causes or symptoms of the scorch effect. Amounts of extractable organic N (DON) were similar in both soils and increased during the first 4 weeks and then decreased. Urine addition both increased and decreased DON at different times, but the overall mean values were unchanged. Urine application changed the distribution of P in the two soils, increasing the soil solution P at Fasset by 80 mg P m−2 and raising the P content of herbage at Strathfinella by 600 mg P m−2. In the soil solution, dissolved forms of molybdate reactive P, organic P and condensed P fractions were all increased by the urine addition. After 23 weeks, condensed P made the greatest contribution to soil solution P in both soils indicating that this fraction was the least available for plant uptake. The effects of different concentrations of synthetic sheep urine and plant species on ammonia-oxidizing bacterial (AOB) communities in an upland grassland soil were investigated using a microcosm approach. Plant species characteristic of unimproved and improved agricultural pastures (Agrostis capillaris and Lolium perenne, respectively) were planted in soil microcosms, and different levels of synthetic sheep urine were applied, with harvests 10 and 50 days following urine application. Shifts in the community structure of the AOB were investigated using terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism of amoA amplicons. Species richness and diversity were significantly altered by synthetic sheep urine addition and time depending on plant species type. Principal coordinate analysis revealed that AOB community structure was largely dependent on interactions between sheep urine deposition, plant species, and time after urine application, while significant changes in AOB structure were also revealed by similarity percentage analysis. The results of this study suggested that high levels of sheep urine, combined with floristic changes that are characteristic of agricultural intensification, can contribute to temporal and spatial changes in the structure of key bacterial communities in upland grassland soil. Changes in AOB community structure could potentially affect important soil processes, such as nitrification, with subsequent implications for nutrient cycling in agricultural systems.  相似文献

2000-2009年,采用野外样带调查与多点定位监测结合的方法,研究了区域气候变化对达乌里胡枝子种群分布和生长的影响.结果表明:受气温的影响,达乌里胡枝子种群的适宜生长范围由西北向东南呈明显的地带性分布,种群分布的适宜温度在7.4 ℃~10 ℃,平均密度为13.9株·m-2,生殖枝数量平均为每丛11.4枝,生长稳定;受降水梯度的影响,达乌里胡枝子种群的水平分布已由典型草原地带的建群种或优势种扩展为森林草原地带的伴生种,并从伴生种上升为优势种.在荒漠草原地带的沟谷半阳坡及沙丘附近也常以偶见种出现,并从年降雨300~500 mm的适宜区,已逐渐扩大到降雨量较低的270 mm和较高的600 mm区域;达乌里胡枝子种群分布的海拔高度由1100~1700 m扩展到600~1950 m的范围.在全球气候变暖背景下,达乌里胡枝子种群生态幅在逐渐扩大.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to quantify differences in recruitment potential (seed production, seed presence in the soil) for two congeneric perennial grasses (Bouteloua gracilis, Bouteloua eriopoda [Poaceae]) that dominate adjacent arid and semiarid grassland biomes. It was hypothesized that these species have different recruitment strategies at the biome transition zone that are related to differences in their growth form and longevity. Recruitment potential for each Bouteloua species was compared in patches dominated by one or both species or codominated by the invasive shrub, Larrea tridentata (Zygophyllaceae). Regional variation in recruitment was examined for B. gracilis for cases in which comparable data were available in the literature for a site located within the semiarid grassland biome. The short-lived stoloniferous species B. eriopoda produced more seeds per plant than the long-lived bunchgrass B. gracilis, yet seed viability (<60%) and presence in the soil were lower. Mean viability of B. gracilis was higher (>90%) than that of B. eriopoda, and a greater percentage of seeds produced on a square meter basis was found in the soil (10-25%). Similar patterns were found for both species in all grass-dominated patches. Bouteloua eriopoda plants growing in patches codominated by L. tridentata produced fewer seeds per plant with lower viability, and fewer seeds were found in the soil compared to grass-dominated patches. Regional comparisons found greater seed production per square meter and more seeds in the soil for B. gracilis at the transitional site compared with a cooler, wetter site located within the semiarid grassland biome. These differences in recruitment potential along with published differences in rates of seedling establishment and vegetative spread may explain, at least in part, localized patterns in species dominance.  相似文献

This paper evaluates the long‐term effect of an ecological network of calcareous grasslands, a habitat type that experienced dramatic habitat loss and fragmentation during the 20th century, on species richness of habitat specialist plants. Calcareous grasslands are of special conservation concern as the habitat type with the highest diversity in plant and invertebrate species in central Europe. A baseline survey in 1989 established complete vascular plant species lists for all 62 previously abandoned calcareous grassland patches in the study area and assessed the presence of 48 habitat specialist plant species. An ecological network was initiated in 1989 to reconnect these patches with existing grazed pastures (core areas) through large flock sheep herding where feasible, as sheep are thought to be the primary dispersal vectors for calcareous grassland plants. An evaluation survey in 2009 showed significant increase in species richness of habitat specialist plants in patches reconnected by sheep herding, indicating successful colonizations by habitat specialist plants, while ungrazed patches showed no significant change. Observed increase in species richness between 1989 and 2009 was related to connectivity by sheep herding and the presence of a diversity of structural elements providing microsites for establishment. Baseline species richness of the patches, which had been abandoned since at least 1960, was associated with patch area, supporting the effect of ecological drift, and with vegetation type, which suggests that delays in extinction may be related to site factors governing the strength of competition with later seral species. The implementation of this ecological network represents a long‐term ‘natural experiment’ with baseline data, manipulation, and evaluation of hypothesized effects on a clearly defined target variable. It thus provides much needed empirical evidence that species loss in fragmented calcareous grassland communities can be counteracted by restoring functional connectivity among remnant patches.  相似文献

黄土高原半干旱区退化草地恢复与利用过程研究   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
草地退化表现为土壤和植被遭到彻底破坏,草地演替过程受到强烈抑制.实验采用长期(30年)封禁措施,定位监测退化草地从次生半裸地演变为近似原生植被(进展演替)的变化过程.结果表明,随着封禁时间的变化,退化草地恢复演替经历了4个阶段,群落盖度、植株密度、物种丰富度和多样性指数、地上生物量和地下生物量在草地群落恢复过程中逐渐增加,其特征变化出现的峰值均在封禁第20年(地下生物量峰值在第15年),其中地上生物量最高达520.5 g/m2;直到封禁的第20~25年,以本氏针茅为建群种的草原群落衰败退化现象明显,而大针茅种群密度剧增;在封禁的第26年以上以大针茅为优势的群落生长较为稳定,从目前群落演替进程看,大针茅有替代本氏针茅的趋势.另外,在草原沟道两侧以斑块状聚集分布有中旱生灌木,群落的演替进入了一个新的阶段.随着封禁时间的延续,退化草地从自然封禁恢复的0~26年,通过侵入-竞争-扩散-定居的几个演替阶段,目前形成以大针茅为建群种相对稳定的"亚顶级".虽然草地生物量有一定下降,但草地质量提高,物种多样性丰富,促进草地的进展演替.草地植物群落主要由禾本科、豆科和菊科组成;多年生植物、C3和旱生物种可以作为草地演替过程和植被恢复的指示物种.长期封育对草地物种更新和生态系统稳定性有负面影响,因此,合理的封育时间是草地生态恢复中非常重要的一个因素.本研究提出,在黄土区退化草地封育10~15年后可以开始进行合理的利用,例如通过两年一次刈割和轻度放牧(2只羊/hm2).本研究可为干旱区、半干旱区相似的退化草地恢复提供理论依据.  相似文献

Nutrient inputs to plant communities are often spatially heterogeneous, for example those deriving from the dung and urine of large grazing animals. The effect of such localised elevation of nutrients on plant growth and composition has been shown to be modified by the grazing of large herbivores. However, there has been little work on interactions between small mammalian herbivores and such patchy nutrient inputs, even though these interactions are potentially of major significance for plant performance and community structure.
We examined the effect of simulated cattle urine deposition on the vegetation structure, above-ground biomass and species composition of chalk grassland within enriched patches. Short-term exclosures were used to determine whether a small herbivore (rabbit) would preferentially graze the vegetation in enriched patches and what impact this interaction would have on the performance of plants in such patches. Rabbit grazing pressure determined whether nutrient inputs had a negative or positive effect on plant biomass. Nutrients increased plant biomass in the absence of grazing, but when exposed to grazing, plants in nutrient-rich patches had more biomass consumed by herbivores than neighbouring plants. Further, nutrients increased the relative palatability of a less preferred forage species ( Brachypodium pinnatum ), contributing to changes in plant community composition. We conclude that a small herbivore can drive plant responses to patchily distributed nutrients.  相似文献

应用数量生态学中的梯度分析方法研究了云雾山天然草地群落类型、物种分布以及与环境因子的关系.研究结果表明,作为重要的人为管理措施,封育通过改善草地的水分、养分等环境条件,显著影响了云雾山草地的物种分布和群落类型.在封育草地,植被类型为本氏针茅群落,未封育草地为铁杆蒿群落.本氏针茅、百里香、大针茅、直茎点地梅、阿尔泰狗哇花等中旱生植物在封育草地中占优势,铁杆蒿、硬质早熟禾、星毛委菱菜等在退化草地中占优势.除封育措施以外,20~100cm 的土壤含水量对物种分布影响显著.同时,养分作为一个重要的环境因素对物种的分布也具有重要影响,特别是速效钾和NO-3-N.海拔、坡位、坡向等地形因素对植物分布的影响不明显.  相似文献

放牧时,动物采食及其排泄物会影响植物的生长,但动物彩食及其排泄物的空间异质性可能会影响这咱效应.在位于我国北方典型农牧交错区的内蒙古多伦县,我们研究了模拟入牧斑块和施氧肥对植物生长的影响,实验采用模拟放牧采食斑块(观割半径分别0、10、20、40和8cm)和土壤施氮(分别为0、5、20Gn\m2)两种处理,植物地上部收获后分为绿体和立柯两部分,并分析其含氮量.结果表明,刈割降低了植物的生物量(40.5%),而施氮可增加生物量(57.8%)刈割交通规则植物生长的抑制作用在面积最水又施肥的斑块上表现更明显.土壤施氮可以促进杜物生长并且影响刈割效应.同时植物的绿-枯比阻碍施氮水平的增回而增回,因此氮会延迟植物的衰老.以上结果表明,刈割(模拟动物采食)斑块的大小会影响草原植物的生长,土壤施氮(模拟动物尿氮)可以提高草原生态系统的初级生产力,并影响刈割效应.  相似文献

Urine volatiles from different ungulates (cows, horses and sheep) were tested as bait for tabanids in southeastern France using Nzi traps during the early summer of 2011. Tabanus bromius Linnaeus, 1758 and Atylotus quadrifarius (Loew, 1874) (both: Diptera: Tabanidae) were the most captured species, respectively representing 57% and 41% of all tabanids collected (all of which were female). Horse urine significantly increased catches of T. bromius (1.6‐fold) and A. quadrifarius (3.5‐fold), and sheep urine significantly increased catches of A. quadrifarius (2.5‐fold). In parallel, an electroantennogram (EAG) study was conducted for the first time on these two species, in which EAGs were recorded using 1‐octen‐3‐ol and extracts of the same urine samples used in the field. For T. bromius, the EAG response to 1‐octen‐3‐ol increased quasi‐sigmoidally with dose, with a maximum response at ≥100 µg on filter paper. For both species of tabanid, cow and horse urine elicited larger EAGs than did sheep urine. The behavioural implications in host‐seeking and feeding habits are discussed.  相似文献

Question: How do patterns in colonization and patch expansion of an invasive woody plant (Larrea tridentata, Zygo‐phyllaceae) differ between two grassland ecosystems at a biome transition zone? Location: Semi‐arid/arid transition zone in central New Mexico. Methods: Frequency of occurrence, height, and surface area of saplings (n= 134) and patches of adult plants (n= 247) of the invasive shrub, L. tridentata, were measured within a mosaic of ecosystems dominated either by the Chihuahuan Desert species, Bouteloua eriopoda (Poaceae), or the shortgrass steppe species, B. gracilis, located within 1 km of the L. tridentata‐dominated ecosystem. Distances between L. tridentata patches and patch area were used to estimate connectivity as a measure of propagule pressure. Sapling age (estimated from height using previously established relationships) and distance to the L. tridentata‐dominated ecosystem was used to evaluate patterns in dispersal. Cover by species or functional group inside each L. tridentata patch was compared with surrounding vegetation to estimate changes in species composition with patch expansion. Results: L. tridentata saplings (< 1%) and adult patches (15%) occurred less frequently in B. gracilis‐dominated ecosystems than expected based on areal extent of this ecosystem type. Propagule pressure did not differ with distance from the core ecosystem dominated by L. tridentata. Evidence for both local and long‐distance dispersal events was found. Similar relationships between number of plants and patch area in both grassland types indicate similar patterns in patch expansion. Cover of perennial forbs was higher and cover of dominant grasses was lower in L. tridentata patches compared with the surrounding vegetation for both ecosystem types. Conclusions Spatial variation in L. tridentata saplings and patches at this biome transition zone is related to the different susceptibilities to invasion by two grassland ecosystems. The persistence of grasslands at this site despite region‐wide expansion by L. tridentata may be related to the spatial distribution of B. gracilis‐dominated ecosystems that resist or deter invasion by this woody plant.  相似文献

Several expected correlations among followed internal plant traits were confirmed using the dataset of 492 herbaceous species from the temporal zone of Central Europe. Average diaspore weight (seed mass), reproductive capacity of population (number of produced diaspores), species height, and ability of lateral spread were the plant traits considered. The evident correlations were confirmed among all investigated traits: (i) The reproductive capacity of population negatively correlated with diaspore weight, plant height, and vegetative propagation. The diaspore weight and their number are closely correlated and co-adapted. (ii) Bigger plant species produce bigger diaspores. These trends are obvious at the inter- and intra-family levels. (iii) Larger plant species showed higher ability to vegetative propagation.  相似文献

Three field experiments were carried out to compare cattle and sheep urine patches in relation to (i) initial wetting pattern and volume of soil affected, (ii) soil solution ionic composition and (iii) the fate of15N-labelled urine in the soil over the winter period. The distribution of Br (used as a urine tracer) across the soil surface and down the profile was irregular in all the patches. The pasture area covered by Br in the sheep patches was 0.04–0.06 m2 and Br was detected to a depth of 150 mm. Cattle patches were significantly larger covering a surface area of 0.38–0.42 m2 and penetrating to a depth of 400 mm. The rapid downward movement of urine occurred through macropore flow but even so, over half of the applied Br was detected in the 0–50 mm soil layer in both sheep and cattle patches. Due to the larger volume of urine added to the cattle patches (2000 mL for cattle and 200 mL for sheep) the effective application rate was about 5 L m–2 compared with 4 L m–2 for sheep. Concentrations of extractable mineral N and ionic concentrations in soil solution were higher in cattle than sheep patches particularly near the soil surface. In both sheep and cattle patches, urea was rapidly hydrolysed to NH 4 + and nitrification occurred between 14 and 29 days after urine application. Initially the major anions and cations in the soil solution were HCO 3 , SO 4 = , Cl, NH 4 + , Mg++, K+ and Na+, which were derived from the urine application. Ionic concentrations in the soil solution decreased appreciably over time due to plant uptake and possibly some leaching. As nitrification proceeded, NO 3 became the dominant anion in soil solution and the major accompanying cation was Ca++. The fate of15N-labelled urine-urea was followed during a 5 month period beginning in late autumn. Greater leaching losses of NO 3 occurred below cattle patches (equivalent to 60 kg N ha–1 below 300 mm and 37 kg N ha–1 below 600 mm) compared with sheep patches (10 kg N ha–1 below 300 mm and 1 kg N ha below 600 mm). While 6% of the applied15N was leached the amount of N leached was equivalent to 11% of the applied urine-N in cattle patches. This suggests that there was significant immobilsation-mineralisation turnover in urine patch soil with the release of mineral N from native soil organic matter. In both sheep and cattle patches 60% of the15N was accounted for in plant uptake, remaining in the soil and leaching. About 40% of the applied N was therefore lost through gaseous emission.  相似文献

Abstract. Seed banks in cattle dung, soil under cattle dung and soil under vegetation and growth response of plant species to the changes in soil nitrogen availability were studied in an alvar limestone grassland on Öland, Sweden, in order to analyse the impact of dung deposition and decomposition on the formation of patches of plant species. Results suggest that patches of four plant species could result from cattle dung deposition and decomposition. Impact of dung could proceed in three ways: (1) by changing the relative abundance of species in the soil seed bank under dung, and/or (2) by influencing the deposition of seeds in the dung, and/or (3) by intensifying the growth of some species through nutrient release. Species patches could result from one or more of these aspects. For instance, patches of Arenaria serpyllifolia may be induced by dung deposition because of the dominance of its seeds in dung, while the pattern of Cerastium semidecandrum and Festuca ovina may be due to the abundance of their seeds in the soil seed bank under dung and their positive growth response to increased nitrogen availability.  相似文献

 为了解氮素沉降对草地群落的影响, 通过人工氮肥添加模拟试验, 研究了黄土高原天然草地优势植物长芒草(Stipa bungeana)在不同施氮水平下叶片和立枯物碳(C)、氮(N)、磷(P)元素含量的变化特征, 探讨了N素增加对N、P重吸收率和C : N : P化学计量比的影响及其内在联系。结果表明: 氮素添加显著增加了长芒草叶片的C、N和立枯物的N、P含量, 对叶片P和立枯物C含量无显著影响; 氮素添加显著降低了长芒草的N、P重吸收率, 对照处理的N、P重吸收率最高, 分别为60.35%和
71.75%, 并且, 在相同氮素处理条件下P的重吸收率显著大于N重吸收率; 随着氮素添加量的增大, 叶片的C : N降低, N : P和C : P增加, N : P为18.25–29.01。研究表明, 黄土高原天然草地群落主要受P限制, 随氮素沉降增加, P限制进一步加剧; 长芒草较高的N、P重吸收率是保证其在贫瘠的土壤中生存的重要机制。  相似文献

在内蒙古冷蒿小禾草草原1989年围封禁牧地,研究了天然羊尿尿斑土壤化学特性的变化规律,结果表明,土壤pH值于施尿后第2天达到最大值,以后呈下降趋势,58天后pH值基本稳定在6.5左右且低于对照区水平,施尿区土壤可溶性有机碳含量的变化趋势与pH值的变化基本一致,两者存在显著的正相关关系(P<0.01).施尿后土壤总可溶性磷含量显著提高(P<0.05),第2天达到最大值(35.1mg·L^-1)。总可溶性磷各组分钼酸反应磷、可溶性有机磷和可溶性缩合磷百分比均存在两个明显的变化阶段,钼酸反应磷和可溶性有机磷与可溶性缩合磷存在显著的负相关关系(P<0.05).施尿区土壤NH4^+-N在第2天达到最大值。以后呈下降趋势;NO3-N含量14天后开始显著增加,并于第21天达到最大值,其变化呈现明显的“双峰型”特征,并较NH4^+-N存在显著的时滞现象;施尿后土壤可溶性有机氮含量显著增加,并表现为“双峰型”变化特征。  相似文献

Habitat loss and fragmentation are critical threats that cause biodiversity loss. However, the driving factors of species diversity in fragmented habitats are complex. This study was conducted in the agro-pastoral ecotone of northern China, a region that has suffered from severe habitat fragmentation due to agricultural activities. Based on the plant species richness, patch characteristics (patch area, fractal dimension, and isolation), landscape characteristics (grassland area ratio within buffer zones with different radii (50–500 m) around each patch), and environmental characteristics (mean annual precipitation, mean annual temperature, altitude, extremely high temperature, extremely low temperature, slope, and aspect) of 82 remnant grassland patches, we first explored the appropriate buffer zone with the most powerful impact on species richness of remnant grassland patches (SRP). Furthermore, we analyzed the relationships between a series of predictors and SRP. Finally, we confirmed the critical driving factors of SRP through a random forest analysis. The results showed that the landscape scale with the most powerful impact on SRP was 150 m. The patch area, grassland area ratio of a buffer zone with a 150 m radius, mean annual precipitation, and slope all had significantly positive effects on SRP. Among these factors, patch area and patch isolation were the top two driving factors of SRP. Our study suggests that large and highly connected patches should be protected for the construction of natural reserves. Meanwhile, the habitat around patches within a suitable range should also not be ignored. We highlight that the island biogeography theory could be used to predict plant species richness of remnant grassland patches in the agro-pastoral ecotone of northern China.  相似文献
