Puparia of Glossina morsitans centralis (Machado), G.fuscipes fuscipes (Newstead) and G.brevipalpis (Newstead) were incubated at 25 +/- 1 degrees C, 28 +/- 1:25 +/- 1 degrees C, day:night or 29 +/- 1 degrees C throughout the puparial period, and maintained at 70-80% relative humidity. Puparial mortality was higher at 29 than at 25 degrees C (optimum temperature) in all three species, particularly in G.f.fuscipes and G.brevipalpis. Adults of G.m.centralis from puparia incubated at 29 degrees C, and those of this subspecies, G.f.fuscipes and G.brevipalpis from puparia incubated at 28:25 degrees C, day:night or 25 degrees C throughout, were infected as tenerals (27 h old) by feeding them at the same time on goats infected with Trypanosoma congolense (Broden) IL 1180 after the parasites were detected in the wet blood film. Infection rates on day 25 post-infected feed were higher in G.m.centralis from puparia incubated at 29 degrees C and in adults of the three different tsetse species from puparia incubated at 28:25 degrees C, day:night, than in those from puparia incubated at 25 degrees C. However, in G.f.fuscipes the labral and hypopharyngeal infection rates were not significantly different from those of the tsetse produced by puparia kept at 25 degrees C.  相似文献

Photographic polytene chromosome maps from pupal trichogen cells of four tsetse species, Glossina austeni, G. pallidipes, G. morsitans morsitans and G. m. submorsitans were constructed and compared. The homology of chromosomal elements between the species was achieved by comparing banding patterns. The telomeric and subtelomeric chromosome regions were found to be identical in all species. The pericentromeric regions were found to be similar in the X chromosome and the left arm of L1 chromosome (L1L) but different in L2 chromosome and the right arm of L1 chromosome (L1R). The L2 chromosome differs by a pericentric inversion that is fixed in the three species, G. pallidipes, G. morsitans morsitans and G. m. submorsitans. Moreover, the two morsitans subspecies appeared to be homosequential and differ only by two paracentric inversions on XL and L2L arm. Although a degree of similarity was observed across the homologous chromosomes in the four species, the relative position of specific chromosome regions was different due to chromosome inversions established during their phylogeny. However, there are regions that show no apparent homology between the species, an observation that may be attributed to the considerable intra—chromosomal rearrangements that have occurred following the species divergence. The results of this comparative analysis support the current phylogenetic relationships of the genus Glossina.  相似文献

Abstract Measurements of residual haematin in males of Glossina morsitans morsitans Westwood reared in the laboratory at 25oC suggest that blood meal digestion is completed in 4 or 5 days after feeding. However, a high proportion of haematin is present as faecal matter 2 days after feeding and it is concluded that digestion is completed sooner than indicated by the regression of logio haematin on time. Therefore, low levels of residual haematin in field-caught tsetse provide no indication of the frequency with which they feed. For this reason the effects of feeding frequency upon various reproductive parameters in the laboratory have been examined. It is concluded that the best performance is achieved by G.m. morsitans females which ingest four blood meals per inter-larval period and that for a similar performance in G.pallidipes five blood meals are required. The extent to which such feeding frequencies are a reflection of feeding activity in the field are discussed in terms of the biochemical requirements to maintain a reproductive adult female tsetse in positive energy balance.  相似文献

The growth of axillary shoots was initiated on nodal stem segments, excised from aseptically grown seedlings of Gentiana acaulis L., G. cruciata L., G. lutea L. and G. purpurea L. In later subcultures, a basal callus tissue developed on the shoots, giving rise to de novo formed buds. Optimum benzyladenine and indoleacetic acid combinations for shoot development were established. They were slightly different in the four species. From 35-70% of shoots rooted spontaneously, except in G. lutea, in which adventitious roots were induced by applying naphthaleneacetic acid. It was conduded that the four Gentiana species were amenable to propagation in vitro. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

观察分析了亚洲棉×比克氏棉杂种后代的形态表现及减数分裂行为。结果表明,野生比克氏棉的形态性状遗传传递力较强,F_1在中期Ⅰ的染色体构型为15.14Ⅰ+5.29Ⅱ,二价体的平均交叉数为1.07;F_2的染色体构型为2.55Ⅰ+24.5Ⅱ+0.15 Ⅲ,二价体交叉数为1.83。F_2的开花习性表现异常,完全自花受精将有利于后代性状的快速稳定。F_2中分离出无腺体的植株,为将“油腺延缓形成”特性转育到栽培种提供了可能。  相似文献

ABSTRACT. The effects of age and hunger on the responses of male Glossina morsitans morsitans Westwood and G.pallidipes Austen to freeze-killed female decoys, were examined in the laboratory. In both species, activity, estimated as the total number of interactions between males and decoys, increased with both age and hunger. Interactions were divided into short-stay (<60 s) and long-stay, full copulatory responses. In both species, young, unfed males were significantly less likely to attempt to copulate with a decoy after encounter than were fed males. Among fed males the proportion of interactions that proceeded to full copulatory attempts did not change with increasing age, but decreased consistently with increasing hunger. At all ages and hunger levels, G.pallidipes were more active than G.m.morsitans. However, after encountering a decoy, G.pallidipes were less likely to attempt to copulate than G.m.morsitans. In both species the duration of copulatory attempts did not change with age, but declined with increasing hunger. Copulatory attempts by G.pallidipes were significantly shorter than those of G.m.morsitans. The results are discussed in relation to the behaviour of tsetse in response to control devices such as traps and targets.  相似文献

利用30KeV的N^+离子束注入陆地棉和海岛棉的花粉及杂交F1种子,分析了杂种后代农艺性状遗传稳定性的变化。结果表明:N^+离子辐照能显著地加速杂种后代的遗传稳定性,F4M4代性状稳定度可达90%左右。F1种子辐照后代农艺性状多偏向陆地棉,而且花粉辐照杂交后代农艺性状表现出偏母遗传。同时以^60Coγ射线效应为对照,初步探讨了N^+离主入加速遗传稳定的机制。  相似文献

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and histological techniques were used to observe and study the setae structures of two gecko species (G. gecko and G. swinhonis) and the relationships between these structures and the adhesive forces. The SEM results showed that the setae of these two species were densely distributed in an orderly fashion, and branched with curved tips. The setae of G. gecko had cluster structures, each cluster containing 4-6 setae whose terminal branches curved towards the center of the toes at ~ 10o, the tips of the branches like spatulae and densely arrayed at an interval of less than 0.2―0.3 μm. On the contrary, the branch tips in the setae of G. swinhonis were curled, and the terminal parts of setae curved towards the center of the toes at various angles. Usually the setae of these gecko species branch twice at the top at intervals greater than that of G. gecko. The histological observation found that inside the setae of these two species there were plenty of unevenly distributed contents, such as epithelia, fat cells, pigmental cells and muscle tissue, but no gland cells existed. The results of functional experiments suggested that modifying the structure of gecko's setae could reduce its adhesive ability dramatically, demonstrating the positive correlation between the structure of the gecko's setae and its adhesive ability. The above results provide important information in designing bio-mimic setae and bio-gecko robots.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. Glossina morsitans morsitans Westw. and G. pallidipes Aust. flying around and landing on coloured screens and traps were sampled using electrocuting nets. External colour affected both attractiveness and efficiency of traps, such that yellow and green traps were unattractive and inefficient; black and red, attractive and inefficient; white, moderately attractive, and very efficient; and blue traps, attractive and efficient. The order of attractiveness of coloured screens was similar to that for traps. Landing responses were generally strongest on black surfaces, and weakest on white, but the results for blue were variable. Carbon dioxide and acetone odours improved trap catches and also eliminated most catch differences between traps differently coloured on their outer surfaces. The relative performances of traps coloured differently on inside surfaces only were not affected significantly by these odours, and in all cases black or red target areas inside the trap were required for optimum trap performance. When acetone and 1-octen-3-ol odours were used, catches were improved but the relative performance of differently coloured traps and screens was not changed. There were no obvious species differences in colour responses although numbers of G. morsitans were too low for statistical comparisons.  相似文献

Abstract. Teneral Glossina morsitans centralis and G. brevipalpis were fed in vitro upon medium containing procyclic Trypanosoma brucei brucei derived from the midguts of G. m. centralis or G. brevipalpis which had immature trypanosome infections. The tsetse were then maintained on rabbits and, on day 31, were dissected to determine the infection rates. In G. m. centralis the midgut and salivary gland infection rates by T. b. brucei were 46.0% and 27.0% with procyclic trypanosomes from G. m. centralis, and 45.4% and 24.7% with procyclic trypanosomes from G. brevipalpis, respectively. In G. brevipalpis the rates were 20.2% and 0.0% with procyclic trypanosomes from G. m. centralis, and 28.0% and 0.0% with procyclic trypanosomes from G. brevipalpis, respectively. Teneral G. m. centralis and G. brevipalpis were also fed similarly upon procyclic T. b. brucei derived from G.m.centralis or G. brevipalpis on day 31 of infection, the former tsetse species had mature infections while the latter were without infections in the salivary glands. In G.m.centralis the infection rates in the midgut and salivary glands were 48.9% and 17.0%, and 38.0% and 17.0% when fed on procyclic trypanosomes from G.m.centralis and G. brevipalpis, respectively. In G. brevipalpis the rates were 21.5% and 0.0%, and 10.7% and 0.0% with procyclic trypanosomes of G.m.centralis and G. brevipalpis origin, respectively. Thus, procyclic T. b. brucei from susceptible G.m.centralis could not complete cyclical development in refractory G. brevipalpis, whereas those from G. brevipalpis developed to metatrypanosomes in the salivary glands of G.m.centralis. Teneral and 15-day-old non-teneral G.m.centralis were fed in vitro upon heparinized goat's blood containing T. b. brucei bloodstream trypomastigotes, or upon medium containing procyclic T. b. brucei derived from G.m.centralis with mature infections. On day 31 their infection rates were determined. The infection rates by T. b. brucei in the midgut and salivary glands of G.m.centralis fed on the infected blood were 70.4% and 40.4% when fed as teneral tsetse, as against 15.3% and 4.0% when fed as non-teneral tsetse. Those tsetse which were fed on the medium containing procyclic trypanosomes showed rates of 50.0% and 25.6%, as against 11.6% and 2.5%, respectively. It would appear, therefore, that maturation of T. b. brucei in tsetse is probably not determined simply by an interaction between lectin and procyclic trypanosomes in the midgut of non-teneral tsetse, but it is the result of a complex interaction between many interrelated physiological factors of both the trypanosome and the tsetse vector.  相似文献

Speed of emergence of juveniles from cysts in potato root diffusate (PRD) in vitro differed between Globodera rostochiensis and G. pallida and between populations within each species. Early emergence in vitro was slower in most populations of G. pallida than in most populations of G. rostochiensis. Fewer G. rostochiensis juveniles emerged from 4 or 6 month old than from 4 yr old cysts. More G. rostochiensis emerged in solutions of sodium metavanadate at concentrations of 10-2 and 10-3 M than in PRD and as many G. pallida emerged in the same solutions as in PRD. In plots of bare fallowed sandy loam, emergence of G. pallida was stimulated by 10--3 M sodium metavanadate. The emergence of two populations of C. pallida in PRD was stimulated by the addition of benomyl at 0.1 ppm (3.4 × 10--7 m). In microplots, cv. Cara potatoes grown for 8 wk decreased four populations of G. pallida by up to 93%. During a 4 wk period in PRD, more than 20 juveniles per gravid female emerged from five of 25 populations of G. pallida. In root observation boxes in which cv. Désirée was grown, oxamyl applied to the top 15 cm of a peaty loam soil greatly increased G. pallida in soil 1545 cm deep. In another peaty loam, but not in a sandy loam, the same treatment appeared to increase the nematode in soil 15–30 cm deep. Oxamyl incorporated in the uninfested top 15 cm of all three soils largely prevented nematode increase from juveniles migrating upwards from untreated heavily infested soil 15–30 cm deep. These experiments suggest that inadequate control of G. pallida increase on susceptible potatoes by an oximecarbamate nematicide of short persistence, such as oxamyl, is primarily due to the slow rate of juvenile emergence in most populations of G. pallida, with a second generation and the upward migration of juveniles from deeper untreated soil later in the growing season as potential contributory factors.  相似文献

Paralagarosolen fangianum Y. G. Wei, a new genus and species of Gesneriaceae from Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated. Paralagarosolen Y. G. Wei is closely related to Lagarosolen W. T. Wang in having corolla tube cylindric, not swollen, and stigmas 2, but differs by having leaves sometimes peltate at base, cyme with only one flower, corolla lobes rounded-obtuse at apex, and capsule broadly ovoid-ellipsoid.  相似文献

以棉花栽培种中棉作母本,野生种戴维逊氏棉作父本进行杂交试验,并用中棉自交作对照,比较研究了杂交情况下花粉粒的萌发、花粉管的生长、受精作用及胚和胚乳的发育过程,得到以下结果:(1)中棉×戴维逊氏棉花粉粒的萌发及花粉管在异己花柱中的生长基本正常,有花粉管胚珠的频率约20%,为中棉自交的1/4左右;(2)在杂交情况下,有花粉管进入的胚珠基本上能实现受精;(3)杂种胚乳在授粉后7天发育异常,11天开始解体,16天才有部分胚珠的胚乳开始形成细胞壁;(4)杂种胚不分化或畸形分化,在授粉后11—22天坏死。  相似文献
