Seed dormancy (SD) is an important agronomic trait affecting crop yield and quality. In this study, one rice population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) was used to determine the genetic characteristics of SD at the early (4 weeks after heading), middle (5 weeks after heading) and late (6 weeks after heading) development stages. The level of SD decreased with the process of seed development, and the SD was significantly affected by the heading date (HD) and temperature at the early and middle development stages. A total of eight additive quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for SD were identified at three development stages, and more QTLs were expressed at the early and late development stages. Among them, four, one and three additive QTLs were identified at the early, middle and late development stages, respectively. Epistatic QTLs and QTL-by-development interactions were detected by the joint analysis of multi-development phenotypic values, and one additive and two epistatic QTLs were identified. The phenotypic variation of SD explained by each additive, epistatic QTL and QTL × development interaction ranged from 8.0 to 13.5 %, 0.7 to 3.9 % and 1.3 to 2.8 %, respectively. One major QTL qSD7.1 for SD was tightly linked to the major QTL qHD7.4 for HD, which might be applied to reveal the relationship of SD and HD. By comparing chromosomal positions of these additive QTLs with those previously identified, five additive QTLs qSD1.1, qSD2.1, qSD2.2, qSD4.1 and qSD4.2 might represent novel genes. The best three cross combinations for the development of RIL populations were predicted to improve SD. The selected RILs and the identified QTLs might be applicable to improve the rice pre-harvest sprouting tolerance by the marker-assisted selection approach.  相似文献

In this study, one rice population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) was used to determine the genetic characteristics of seed reserve utilization during the early (day 6), middle (day 10) and late (day 14) germination stages. The seedling dry weight (SDW) and weight of the mobilized seed reserve (WMSR) were increased, while the seed reserve utilization efficiency (SRUE) decreased, during the process of seed germination. The SDW and WMSR were affected by the seed weight, while the SRUE was not affected by the seed weight. A total of twenty unconditional and twenty-one conditional additive QTLs and eight epistatic QTLs were identified at three germination stages, and the more QTLs were expressed at the late germination stage. Among them, twelve additive and three epistatic QTLs for SDW, eight additive and three epistatic QTLs for WMSR and thirteen additive and two epistatic QTLs for SRUE were identified, respectively. The phenotypic variation explained by each additive QTL, epistatic QTL and QTL × development interaction ranged from 6.10 to 23.91%, 1.79 to 6.88% and 0.22 to 2.86%, respectively. Two major additive QTLs qWMSR7.1 and qSRUE4.3 were identified, and each QTL could explain more than 20% of the total phenotypic variance. By comparing the chromosomal positions of these additive QTLs with those previously identified, eleven QTLs might represent novel genes. The best four cross combinations of each trait for the development of RIL populations were selected. The selected RILs and the identified QTLs might be applicable to improve rice seed reserve utilization by the marker-assisted selection approach.  相似文献

Seed vigor is an important characteristic of seed quality. In this study, one rice population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) was used to determine the genetic characteristics of seed vigor, including the germination potential, germination rate, germination index and time for 50% of germination, at 4 (early), 5 (middle) and 6 weeks (late) after heading in two years. A total of 24 additive and 9 epistatic quantitative trait loci (QTL) for seed vigor were identified using QTL Cartographer and QTLNetwork program respectively in 2012; while 32 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers associated with seed vigor were detected using bulked segregant analysis (BSA) in 2013. The additive, epistatic and QTL × development interaction effects regulated the dry maturity developmental process to improve seed vigor in rice. The phenotypic variation explained by each additive, epistatic QTL and QTL × development interaction ranged from 5.86 to 40.67%, 4.64 to 11.28% and 0.01 to 1.17%, respectively. The QTLs were rarely co-localized among the different maturity stages; more QTLs were expressed at the early maturity stage followed by the late and middle stages. Twenty additive QTLs were stably expressed in two years which might play important roles in establishment of seed vigor in different environments. By comparing chromosomal positions of these stably expressed additive QTLs with those previously identified, the regions of QTL for seed vigor are likely to coincide with QTL for grain size, low temperature germinability and seed dormancy; while 5 additive QTL might represent novel genes. Using four selected RILs, three cross combinations of seed vigor for the development of RIL populations were predicted; 19 elite alleles could be pyramided by each combination.  相似文献

The key to plant survival under NaCl salt stress is maintaining a low Na+ level or Na+/K+ ratio in the cells. A population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs, F2∶9) derived from a cross between the salt-tolerant japonica rice variety Jiucaiqing and the salt-sensitive indica variety IR26, was used to determine Na+ and K+ concentrations in the roots and shoots under three different NaCl stress conditions (0, 100 and 120 mM NaCl). A total of nine additive QTLs were identified by QTL Cartographer program using single-environment phenotypic values, whereas eight additive QTLs were identified by QTL IciMapping program. Among these additive QTLs, five were identified by both programs. Epistatic QTLs and QTL-by-environment interactions were detected by QTLNetwork program in the joint analyses of multi-environment phenotypic values, and one additive QTL and nine epistatic QTLs were identified. There were three epistatic QTLs identified for Na+ in roots (RNC), three additive QTLs and two epistatic QTLs identified for Na+ in shoots (SNC), four additive QTLs identified for K+ in roots (RKC), four additive QTLs and three epistatic QTLs identified for K+ in shoots (SKC) and one additive QTL and one epistatic QTL for salt tolerance rating (STR). The phenotypic variation explained by each additive, epistatic QTL and QTL×environment interaction ranged from 8.5 to 18.9%, 0.5 to 5.3% and 0.7 to 7.5%, respectively. By comparing the chromosomal positions of these additive QTLs with those previously identified, five additive QTLs, qSNC9, qSKC1, qSKC9, qRKC4 and qSTR7, might represent novel salt tolerance loci. The identification of salt tolerance in selected RILs showed that a major QTL qSNC11 played a significant role in rice salt tolerance, and could be used to improve salt tolerance of commercial rice varieties with marker-assisted selection (MAS) approach.  相似文献

A permanent advanced population containing 388 SSSLs was used for genetic analysis of seed dormancy; 25 QTLs including eight stable, six major and five new were identified.

Abstract

Seed dormancy (SD) is not only a complex biological phenomenon, but also a key practical problem in agricultural production closely related with pre-harvest sprouting (PHS). However, the genetic mechanisms of SD remain elusive. Here, we report the genetic dissection of SD in rice using 388 single segment substitution lines (SSSLs) derived from 16 donor parents. Continuous variation and positive correlations in seed germination percentages were observed in seven seasons. Genetic analysis revealed the narrow sense heritability in different seasons varied from 31.4 to 82.2% with an average value of 56.8%. In addition, 49 SSSLs exhibited significant difference to recipient parent HJX74 on SD in at least two seasons, and 12 of them were stably identified with putative QTLs in all of their corresponding cropping seasons. Based on substitution mapping, a total of 25 dormancy QTLs were detected on 11 chromosomes except the chromosome 5 with an interval length of 1.1 to 31.3 cM. The additive effects of these QTLs changed from ?0.31 to ?0.13, and the additive effect contributions ranged from 16.7 to 41.4%. Six QTLs, qSD3-2, qSD4-1, qSD7-1, qSD7-2, qSD7-3 and qSD11-2, showed large additive effect contributions (≥30%). Five QTLs, qSD3-3, qSD7-1, qSD7-4, qSD9-1 and qSD10-1, may represent novel ones. Furthermore, linkage and recombinant analysis delimited qSD7-1 to a locus 1.5 cM away from marker Oi2 and a 355-kb fragment flanked by RM1134 and Ui159, respectively. Taken together, this work conducts a comprehensive genetic dissection of SD and will provide more selections for breeding elite PHS-resistant rice varieties.

Seed maturity is a critical process of seed vigor establishment. In this study, one rice population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) was used to determine the genetic characteristics of seed vigor, including the germination potential (GP), germination rate (GR), germination index (GI), and time for 50 % of germination (T50), at 4, 5, and 6 weeks after heading in 2 years. Significant differences of seed vigor were observed among two parents and RIL population; the heritability of four traits was more than 90 % at three maturity stages. A total of 19 additive and 2 epistatic quantitative trait loci (QTL) for seed vigor were identified using QTL Cartographer and QTLNetwork program, respectively, in 2012, while 16 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers associated with seed vigor were detected using bulked segregant analysis (BSA) in 2013. The phenotypic variation explained by each additive, epistatic QTL, and QTL × seed maturity interaction ranged from 9.19 to 22.94 %, 7.23 to 7.75 %, and 0.05 to 0.63 %, respectively. Ten additive QTLs were stably expressed in 2 years which might play important roles in establishment of seed vigor in different environments. By comparing chromosomal positions of ten stably expressed additive QTLs with those previously identified, they might be true QTLs for seed vigor; the regions of QTLs for seed vigor are likely to coincide with QTLs for seed dormancy, seed reserve mobilization, low-temperature germinability, and seedling growth. Using four selected RILs, three cross-combinations were predicted to improve seed vigor; 9 to 10 elite alleles could be pyramided by each combination. The selected RILs and the identified QTLs might be applicable for the improvement of seed vigor by marker-assisted selection (MAS) in rice.  相似文献

Aphis gossypii and Bemisia tabaci are severe hemipteran pests of melon crops and breeding for resistance to both insects is required to reduce pesticide use. Resistance was evaluated for its effect on behaviour and biotic potential of both hemipterans in a population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from the cross Védrantais × PI 161375. Insect variability was considered using two A. gossypii clones and two B. tabaci populations. Two additive QTLs affected the whiteflies. Four additive QTLs and two couples of epistatic QTLs affected the aphids. Amongst them, a major QTL affects both behaviour and biotic potential of A. gossypii and therefore a same R gene induces both antixenosis and antibiosis. This major QTL colocalizes with the Vat gene belonging to the NBS-LRR gene family. No loci affected both aphids and whiteflies contrary to what was observed for the Mi1.2 gene, a NBS-LRR gene in tomato. Original populations with different allelic compositions at QTLs affecting A. gossypii were built by one inter-crossing of RILs used for the mapping process. The genetic background was shown homogeneous between these populations what allowed validating QTLs and investigating the effect of allelic combinations at QTLs. Effects of QTLs were stronger than expected and some QTLs had a wider spectrum than expected. This strategy of validation appeared rapid and low cost.  相似文献

As a quantitatively inherited trait related to high yield potential, grain weight (GW) development in wheat is constrained by abiotic stresses such as limited water supply and high temperature. Data from a doubled haploid population, derived from a cross of (Hanxuan 10?×?Lumai 14), grown in four environments were used to explore the genetic basis of GW developmental behavior in unconditional and conditional quantitative trait locus (QTL) analyses using a mixed linear model. Thirty additive QTLs and 41 pairs of epistatic QTLs were detected, and were more frequently observed on chromosomes 1B, 2A, 2D, 4A, 4B and 7B. No single QTL was continually active during all stages or periods of grain growth. The QTLs with additive effects (A-QTLs) expressed in the period S1|S0 (the period from the flowering to the seventh day after) formed a foundation for GW development. GW development at these stages can be used as an index for screening superior genotypes under diverse abiotic stresses in a wheat breeding program. One QTL, i.e. Qgw.cgb-6A.2, showed high adaptability for water-limited and heat-stress environments. Many A-QTLs interacted with more than one other QTL in the two genetic models, such as Qgw.cgb-4B.2 interacted with five QTLs, showing that the genetic architecture underlying GW development involves a collective expression of genes with additive and epistatic effects.  相似文献

In order to detect genomic regions with different effects for some of the physiological and biochemical traits of wheat, four experiments were conducted at Research Farm of Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Center of Zabol in 2015–2016 and 2016–2017 growing seasons. The experiments were carried out using four alpha lattice designs with two replications under non-stress and terminal heat stress conditions. Plant materials used in this study included 167 recombinant inbred lines and their parents (‘SeriM82’ and ‘Babax’). Six traits including grain yield (GY), proline content (PRO), water soluble carbohydrates (WSC), maximum efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm), cytoplasmic membrane stability (CMS) and chlorophyll content (CHL) were evaluated. Genetic linkage map consisted of 211 AFLP marker, 120 SSR marker and 144 DArT markers with 1864 cm length and 4.4 cm mean distance. QTL analysis was carried out using a mixed-model-based composite interval mapping (MCIM) method. By the combined analysis of normal phenotypic values, 27 additive QTLs and five pairs of epistatic effects were identified for studied traits, among which two additive and one epistatic QTL showed significant QTL?×?environment interactions. By the combined analysis of stress phenotypic values, a total of 26 QTLs with additive effects and 5 epistatic QTLs were detected, among which one additive and one epistatic QTL showed QTL?×?environment interactions. Six QTLs with major effects (QGY-2B, QGY-2D, QPro-5B, QWSC-4A, QFv/Fm-6A and QCMS-4B), which were common between two conditions could be useful for marker-assisted selection (MAS) in order to develop heat tolerant and high-performance wheat varieties.  相似文献

Along with the development and integration of molecular genetics and quantitative genetics, many quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping studies have been conducted using different mapping populations in various crop species. Existing QTLs can be used for marker-assisted breeding and map-based cloning, whereas the false-positive QTLs are no use. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the suitability of different mapping procedures for data from different genetic models. In this study, four types of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) with different genetic models, viz. additive QTLs (Model I), additive and epistatic QTLs (Model II), additive QTLs and QTL × environment interaction (Model III), additive, epistatic QTLs and QTL × environment interaction (Model IV), were simulated by computer. Six types of QTL mapping procedures, viz. CIM, MIMF, MIMR, ICIM, MQM and NWIM, on four kinds of QTL mapping software, viz. WinQTL Cartographer Version 2.5, IciMapping Version 2.0, MapQTL Version 5.0 and QTLnetwork Version 2.0, were used for screening QTLs of the simulated RILs. The results showed that different mapping procedures have different suitability for different genetic models. CIM and MQM can only screen Model I data. MIMR, MIMF and ICIM can only screen Model I and Model II data. NWIM can screen all four models’ data. It can be concluded that different genetic models’ data have different most suitable mapping procedures. In practical experiments where the genetic model of the data is unknown, a multiple model mapping strategy should be used, that is a full model scanning with complex model procedure followed by verification with other procedures corresponding to the scanning results.  相似文献

To understand the types of gene action controlling seven quantitative traits in rice, QTL mapping was performed to dissect the main effect (M-QTLs) and digenic epistatic (E-QTLs) QTLs responsible for the trait performance of 254 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) of "Lemont/Teqing", and two testcross (TC) F(1) populations derived from these RILs. The correlation analyses reveal a general pattern, i.e. trait heritability in the RILs was negatively correlated to trait heterosis in the TC hybrids. A large number of M-QTLs and E-QTLs affecting seven traits, including heading date (HD), plant height (PH), flag leaf length (FLL), flag leaf width (FLW), panicle length (PL), spikelet number per panicle (SN) and spikelet fertility (SF), were identified and could be classified into two predominant groups, additive QTLs detected primarily in the RILs, and overdominant QTLs identified exclusively in the TC populations. There is little overlap between QTLs identified in the RILs and in the TC populations. This result implied that additive gene action is largely independent from non-additive gene action in the genetic control of quantitative traits of rice. The detected E-QTLs collectively explained a much greater portion of the total phenotypic variation than the M-QTLs, supporting prior findings that epistasis has played an important role in the genetic control of quantitative traits in rice. The implications of these results to the development of inbred and hybrid cultivars were discussed.  相似文献

Heat stress, one of the major abiotic stresses in wheat, affects chlorophyll fluorescence and chlorophyll content and thereby photosynthesis. To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with these traits under terminal heat stress, 251 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross HD 2808/HUW510 were phenotyped. Using composite interval mapping, 40 QTLs were identified; 17 were related to conditions after timely sowing and 23 to heat stress after late sowing. The various parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence were associated with 23 QTLs, which were located on chromosomes 1A, 2A, 3A, and 2D and explained 3.67 to 18.04 % of phenotypic variation, whereas chlorophyll content was associated with 17 QTLs on chromosomes 2A, 2B, 2D, 5B, and 7A explaining 3.49 to 31.36 % of phenotypic variation. Most of the identified QTLs were clustered on chromosome 2D followed by 2A and 1A. The QTL Qchc.iiwbr-2A for chlorophyll content linked with marker gwm372 was stable over conditions and explained 3.81 to 18.05 % of phenotypic variation. In addition, 7 epistatic QTL pairs were also detected which explained 1.67 to 11.0 % of phenotypic variance. These identified genomic regions can be used in marker assisted breeding after validation for heat tolerance in wheat.  相似文献

QTL analysis of potato tuber dormancy   总被引:5,自引:1,他引:4
The potential loss of chemical sprout inhibitors because of public concern over the use of pesticides underscores the desirability of breeding for long dormancy of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tubers. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) analyses were performed in reciprocal backcrosses between S. tuberosum and S. berthaultii toward defining the complexity of dormancy. S. berthaultii is a wild Bolivian species characterized by a short-day requirement for tuberization, long tuber dormancy, and resistance to several insect pests. RFLP alleles segregating from the recurrent parents as well as from the interspecific hybrid were monitored in two segregating progenies. We detected QTLs on nine chromosomes that affected tuber dormancy, either alone or through epistatic interactions. Alleles from the wild parent promoted dormancy, with the largest effect at a QTL on chromosome 2. Long dormancy appeared to be recessive in the backcross to S. berthaultii (BCB). In BCB the additive effects of dormancy QTLs accounted for 48% of the measured phenotypic variance, and adding epistatic effects to the model explained only 4% more. In contrast, additive effects explained only 16% of the variance in the backcross to S. tuberosum (BCT), and an additional 24% was explained by the inclusion of epistatic effects. In BCB variation at all QTLs detected was associated with RFLP alleles segregating from the hybrid parent; in BCT all QTLs except for two found through epistasis were detected through RFLP alleles segregating from the recurrent parent. At least three dormancy QTLs mapped to markers previously found to be associated with tuberization in these crosses.Paper number 55 of the Department of Fruit and Vegetable Science, Cornell University  相似文献

QTL mapping and epistasis analysis of brace root traits in maize   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Root architecture is a major factor influencing root lodging, which limits greater yield stability at high planting density. Total brace root tier number (TBRTN) and effective brace root tier number (EBRTN) are the two most important root architecture traits influencing root lodging. However, the genetic mechanisms that underlie these traits remain poorly understood. In this study, quantitative trait loci (QTL) for TBRTN and EBRTN were mapped using a set of 201 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) and 278 immortalized F2 (IF2) populations derived from these RILs, which were evaluated in three environments. Ten QTL in the RILs and 15 QTL in the IF2 population were detected. In the two populations, we identified two coincident major QTL for TBRTN and a single identical major QTL for EBRTN. The QTL for TBRTN showed the largest additive effect, accounting for 16.36 and 17.88% of the phenotypic variance in the RILs and IF2 population, respectively. Additional epistatic effects were identified for all the maize chromosomes, except for chromosome 4. Most epistatic effects involved pairs of loci that were on different chromosomes. At the same time, we found loci that interacted simultaneously with several other loci to affect expression of the traits, which was particularly evident in the IF2 population. For example, qTAR1-2 interacted simultaneously with qTAR2-1, qTAR3-1, qTAR5-1, and qITAR8-2 to affect the expression of TBRTN. Therefore, a complex network controlling the traits was found in maize. These results provide useful information for understanding the molecular mechanisms controlling root architecture.  相似文献

Isolation of three dormancy QTLs as Mendelian factors in rice   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6

Seed dormancy is a key adaptive trait under polygenic control in many plants. We introduced the chromosomal regions containing the dormancy QTLs qSD1, qSD7-1, and qSD12 from an accession of weedy rice into a nondormant genetic background to examine component genetic effects and their interactions with time of afterripening (DAR). A BC4F2 plant, which was heterozygous for the three loci, was selected to develop the BC4F3 population. Single point analysis detected only qSD7-1 and qSD12 (R2 = 38-72%) at 10, 30, and 50 DAR in the population. However, multiple linear regression analysis detected genetic effects of the three QTLs and their trigenic epistasis, an environmental effect of DAR (E), and interactions of E with qSD12 and with the qSD1 x qSD7-1 and qSD7-1 x qSD12 epistases. The linear model demonstrates that QTL main effects varied with DAR, and that some epistasis or epistasis-by-DAR interactions partially counteract the main effects. The three QTLs were isolated as single Mendelian factors from the BC4F3 population and estimated for component genic effects based on the BC4F4 populations. Isolation improved estimation of the qSD1 effect and confirmed the major effect of qSD12. The qSD1 and qSD12 loci displayed a gene-additive effect. The qSD7-1, which was further narrowed to a chromosomal region encompassing the red pericarp color gene Rc, displayed gene additive and dominant effects.  相似文献

Quantitative trait loci (QTLs), conferring quantitative resistance to rice brown planthopper (BPH), were investigated using 160 F11 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) from the Lemont/Teqing cross, a complete RFLP map, and replicated phenotyping of seedbox inoculation. The paternal indica parent, Teqing, was more-resistant to BPH than the maternal japonica parent, Lemont. The RILs showed transgressive segregation for resistance to BPH. Seven main-effect QTLs and many epistatic QTL pairs were identified and mapped on the 12 rice chromosomes. Collectively, the main-effect and epistatic QTLs accounted for over 70% of the total variation in damage scores. Teqing has the resistance allele at four main-effect QTLs, and the Lemont allele resulted in resistance at the other three. Of the main-effect QTLs identified, QBphr5b was mapped to the vicinity of gl1, a major gene controlling leaf and stem pubescence. The Teqing allele controlling leaf and stem pubescence was associated with resistance, while the Lemont allele for glabrous stem and leaves was associated with susceptibility, indicating that this gene may have contributed to resistance through antixenosis. Similar to the reported BPH resistance genes, the other six detected main-effect QTLs were all mapped to regions where major disease resistance genes locate, suggesting they might have contributed either to antibiosis or tolerance. Our results indicated that marker-aided pyramiding of major resistance genes and QTLs should provide effective and stable control over this devastating pest. Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for chlorophyll content were studied using a doubled haploid (DH) population with 168 progeny lines, derived from a cross between two elite Chinese wheat cultivars Huapei 3 × Yumai 57. Chlorophyll content was evaluated at the maximum tillering stage (MS), the heading stage (HS), and the grain filling stage (GS), at three different environments in 2005 and 2006 cropping seasons. QTL analyses were performed using a mixed linear model approach. A total of 17 additive QTLs and nine pairs of epistatic QTLs were detected. Ten of 17 additive QTLs for chlorophyll content were persistently expressed at more than two growth stages, which suggest developmentally regulated loci controlling genetics for chlorophyll content in different growth stages in wheat. One novel major QTL for chlorophyll content was closely linked with the PCR marker Xwmc215 and was persistently expressed at three growth stages.  相似文献

Twelve single segment substitution lines (SSSLs) in rice, which contain quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for tiller number detected previously, were used to study dynamic expression of the QTLs in this study. These SSSLs and their recipient, Hua-Jing-Xian 74 (HJX74), were used to produce 78 crossing combinations first, and then these combinations and their parents were grown in two planting seasons with three cropping densities. Tiller number was measured at seven developmental stages. QTL effects including main effects (additive, dominance and epistasis), QTL?×?season and QTL?×?density interaction effects were analyzed at each measured stage. The additive, dominant and epistatic effects of the 12 QTLs as well as their interaction effects with the seasons and with the densities all display dynamic changes with the development. Eight QTLs are detected with significant additive effects and/or additive?×?season and/or additive?×?density interaction effects at least at one developmental stage, and all QTLs have significant dominant and epistatic effects and/or interaction effects involved in. For most of the QTLs dominant effects are much bigger than additive effects, showing overdominance. Each QTL interacts at least with eight other QTLs. Additive and dominant effects of these QTLs are mostly positive while epistatic effects are negative and minor. Most of the QTLs show significant interactions with planting seasons and cropping densities, but the additive effects of QTLs Tn3-1 and Tn3-2, the dominant effects of QTL Tn7 and Tn8, and the epistatic effects of 14 pairs of QTLs are stable across seasons and the dominant effect of QTL Tn3-3 and the epistatic effects of QTL pairs Tn2-1/Tn6-2, Tn2-1/Tn9 and Tn3-3/Tn6-3 are nearly consistent across cropping densities. This paper is the first report of dynamics on dominances and epistasis of QTLs for tiller number in rice and provides abundant information, which is useful to improve rice tiller number via heterosis and/or QTL pyramiding.  相似文献

The QTLs analyses here reported demonstrate the significant role of both individual additive and epistatic effects in the genetic control of seed quality traits in the Andean common bean.

Abstract

Common bean shows considerable variability in seed size and coat color, which are important agronomic traits determining farmer and consumer acceptability. Therefore, strategies must be devised to improve the genetic base of cultivated germplasm with new alleles that would contribute positively to breeding programs. For that purpose, a population of 185 recombinant inbred lines derived from an Andean intra-gene pool cross, involving an adapted common bean (PMB0225 parent) and an exotic nuña bean (PHA1037 parent), was evaluated under six different—short and long-day—environmental conditions for seed dimension, weight, color, and brightness traits, as well as the number of seed per pod. A multi-environment Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) analysis was carried out and 59 QTLs were mapped on all linkage groups, 18 of which had only individual additive effects, while 27 showed only epistatic effects and 14 had both individual additive and epistatic effects. Multivariate models that included significant QTL explained from 8 to 68  % and 2 to 15 % of the additive and epistatic effects, respectively. Most of these QTLs were consistent over environment, though interactions between QTLs and environments were also detected. Despite this, QTLs with differential effect on long-day and short-day environments were not found. QTLs identified were positioned in cluster, suggesting that either pleiotropic QTLs control several traits or tightly linked QTLs for different traits map together in the same genomic regions. Overall, our results show that digenic epistatic interactions clearly play an important role in the genetic control of seed quality traits in the Andean common bean.  相似文献
