Based on a coupled meta-atom and metal-nonlinear dielectric-metal nanocavity, nonlinear all-optical strong coupling switches are proposed and numerically investigated. In the absence of the external pumping light, the resonances of the meta-atom are continuously tuned across the one of the nanocavity by changing the size of the meta-atom. The meta-atomic electric dipole and quadrupole interaction with the plasmonic nanocavity is obtained. The characteristic anticrossing behaviors manifest the occurrence of the strong coupling. With the resonance of the meta-atom being tuned to the one of the nanocavity, we dynamically tune the coupled strength of the system by changing intensity (power) of the pumping light and realize the transition from the strong coupling regime to the weak one. This means that this system can be used as an on/off switch in which the strong coupling can be on/off with an external control light, and the on/off states correspond to strong/weak coupling regime, respectively. Such a strong coupling all-optical switching is of considerable interest for applications in nanoscale plasmonic circuits.  相似文献

Dual-band light absorption with the maximal absorptivity up to 99.7% and the minimal spectral bandwidth down to 3 nm is obtained in the plasmonic absorbers consisting of triple-layer plasmonic crystal-nonlinear medium cavity-metal substrate structure, where the intercalated dielectric material is chosen to be a Kerr medium cavity. Efficient all-optical controlling with high spectral intensity change ratios and detecting signal-to-noise is achieved for the system after a slight increase of pumping intensity. These impressive results mainly result from the strong plasmonic resonant field confinement in the middle nonlinear Kerr medium cavity and the near-perfect relative intensity change response by the ultra-sharp anti-reflection spectrum. This work can lay a foundation for advanced all-optical devices by exploiting light perfect absorption behavior and resonant optical field enhancement.  相似文献

We study the cooperative effects between plasmon gap modes and optical cavity modes of a novel triple-layer structure consisting of double continuous gold films separated by a gold nanosphere array. Narrowband near-perfect antireflection of optical field is achieved for the first time due to the strong near-field light–matter interaction within the deep sub-wavelength gaps between adjacent nanospheres combined with the spatial field confinement effects of the optical cavity built by the double gold films. The coexistence cooperation of near-field dipole plasmon resonances and spatial optical field confinement presents more efficient light modification than that of the individual subsystem and may open a new approach to manage light flow. By varying the period of nanosphere array, the diameter of nanospheres, and the distance between the array and the film, optical behaviors of the proposed structure can be tuned in a wide range. High environmental sensitivity and large figure of merit factor are obtained using this structure as the detecting substrate. Furthermore, ultra-compact structure and high conduction suggest the proposed structure being a good candidate for potential applications in highly integrated optoelectronic devices, such as plasmonic filters and sensors.  相似文献

We propose a compact plasmonic structure comprising a metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) waveguide coupled with a side cavity and groove resonators. The proposed system is investigated by the finite element method. Simulation results show that the side-coupled cavity supports a local discrete state and the groove provides a continuous spectrum, the interaction between them, gives rise to the Fano resonance. The asymmetrical line shape and the resonant wavelength can be easily tuned by changing the geometrical parameters of the structure. Moreover, we can extend this plasmonic structure by the double side-coupled cavities to gain the multiple Fano resonances. The proposed structure can serve as an excellent plasmonic sensor with a sensitivity of ~1900 nm/RIU and a figure of merit of about ~3.8?×?104, which can find wide applications for nanosensors.  相似文献

Cell signaling pathways consist of multiple connections of different types of gene, mRNA and protein networks. It is not a trivial task to follow the signals flowing through these networks. The difficulty comes from considering the entire biological structure as a single network without breaking it into connected modules. The study of these networks simplifies if the complex system is reduced to a hierarchy of interconnected modules. Out of many potential modules, a specific one, namely the Goldbeter–Koshland switch, was encountered by the authors during their study of the Mammalian Heat Shock Response Network (MHSRN) where the switch acts as a stress sensor. Usually, only the steady state behavior of the switch is studied, in which the phosphorylated protein is given as a function of the enzyme concentration. Experimental results show that the heat shock response is still present 20 h after the temperature stress had ended. Thus, it is useful to analyze the transient behavior of the switch that couples the environment to the MHSRN. A stochastic model for the switch is proposed using the Master Equation which is subsequently transformed into an equation for the factorial cumulant generating function. This generating function can be easily read from a graphical representation of the stochastic switch. The second order approximation of the equation for the factorial cumulant generating function is solved and the time dependence of the transient regime of the mean and standard deviation is readily obtained. Using the mean and standard deviation of the switch’s output as a function of the stochastic input signals that represent the environment, we classify the switches according to different criteria. The switches differ by the numerical values of the parameters that characterize the switch’s chemical reactions. The classifying criteria will distinguish the switches by the levels of the response for a given transition time and by the sensitivity of the response to the enzyme levels. It is also found that the environment can drastically change the response of the switch, which has important biological consequences.  相似文献

Electro-optical (EO) switches with a subwavelength device length based on metal–dielectric–metal nanocavities waveguide combined with organic EO materials have been proposed and numerically investigated. The finite difference time domain (FDTD) method with perfectly matched layer absorbing boundary condition is adopted to simulate and study their properties. The FDTD simulation results reveal that these structures filled with EO materials can realize the function of switch with low-driving voltage. The wavelength conversion switch structure might become a choice for the design of integrated architectures for optical computing and communication, especially in WDM systems in the nanoscale.  相似文献

The resonant coupling of a localized surface plasmon mode and a cavity mode in a photonic crystal has been recently shown to strongly tailor the stationary optical response of gold nanoparticles. Here, we demonstrate that this can be further exploited for controlling light on an ultrashort time scale. The stationary and ultrafast optical responses of such a plasmonic–photonic cavity are investigated numerically. We show that the transient photo-induced change of the optical transmittance of a bare nanocomposite thin film can be amplified up to 60 times once resonantly coupled to the cavity mode in the hybrid device, despite the degradation of this mode due to absorption losses. In addition, different all-optical, ultrafast, efficient, and reversible photonic functions (increase or decrease of the signal intensity, transient spectral shift of the cavity mode) can be achieved depending on the spectral position of the transmitted mode tuned by varying the angle of incidence. The transient modification of the signal intensity is predicted to reach about 300 % after a subpicosecond rise time when the defect mode matches the plasmon resonance.  相似文献

A sub-wavelength electro-optic switch based on plasmonic T-shaped waveguide has been proposed and numerically investigated. The finite-difference time-domain simulation results reveal that the switch based on T-shaped waveguide with two U-shaped grooves can realize the function of switching single wavelength from one port to the other by an external voltage. The U-shaped structure is composed of two teeth filled with highly nonlinear organic EO material and one groove filled with 6H-SiC connecting the two teeth. The switch wavelength can be chosen by adjusting both lengths of the left and right teeth, and the switch voltage is 3.35 V for the wavelength of λ = 730 nm with the insertion loss around −2.6 dB and the extinction ratio around −20 dB at port 2.  相似文献

A polarization-controlled tunable plasmonic lens which can generate different multi-focal combinations with exciting sources of left and right circular polarizations is proposed in this paper. Both position and intensity of each focal point can be adjusted by modulating the structure of the plasmonic lens. It is believed that the polarization-controlled tunable plasmonic multi-focal lens can be potentially used for optical switches and multi-channel couplers in future logic photonic and plasmonic systems.  相似文献

A graphene-based metamaterial with tunable electromagnetically induced transparency is numerically studied in this paper. The proposed structure consists of a graphene layer composed of H shape between two cut wires, by breaking symmetry can control EIT-like effects and by increasing the asymmetry in the structure has strong coupling between elements. It is important that the peak frequency of transmission window can be dynamically controlled over a broad frequency range by varying the chemical potential of graphene layer. The results show that high refractive index sensitivity and figure of merit can be achieved in asymmetrical structures which is good for sensing applications. We calculated the group delay and the results show we can control the group velocity by varying the S parameter in asymmetrical structure. The characteristics of our system indicate important potential applications in integrated optical circuits such as optical storage, ultrafast plasmonic switches, high performance filters, and slow-light devices.  相似文献

The surface plasmon polariton (SPP) coupling and enhancement in silver nanowire–nanoantenna structure is proposed and simulated by using finite difference time domain method. The results demonstrate that three-arm antenna can effectively enhance the coupling efficiency at the incident end and the SPP field intensity at the emission end. The enhancement factor, which is defined as the ratio of the SPP field intensity at the emission end with and without the three-arm antenna, for the various antenna arm lengths and incident wavelengths under different incident angles are calculated. The suggested structure can be served as an enhanced plasmonic waveguide for the nanophotonic and plasmonic circuits in the future.  相似文献

We have numerically investigated an analog of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) waveguide bend. The geometry consists of two asymmetrical stubs extending parallel to an arm of a straight MDM waveguide bend. Finite-difference time-domain simulations show that a transparent window is located at 1550 nm, which is the phenomenon of plasmonic-induced transparency (PIT). Signal wavelength is assumed to be 820 nm. The velocity of the plasmonic mode can be largely slowed down while propagating along the MDM bends. Multiple-peak plasmon-induced transparency can be realized by cascading multiple cavities with different lengths and suitable cavity-cavity separations. Large group index up to 73 can be obtained at the PIT window. Our proposed configuration may thus be applied to storing and stopping light in plasmonic waveguide bends. In addition, the relationship between the transmission characteristics and the geometric parameters including the radius of the nano-ring, the coupling distance, and the deviation length between the stub and the nano-ring is studied in a step further. The velocity of the plasmonic mode can be largely slowed down while propagating along the MDM bends. For indirect coupling, formation of transparency window is determined by resonance detuning, but, evolution of transparency is mainly attributed to the change of the coupling distance. Theoretical results may provide a guideline for control of light in highly integrated optical circuits. The characteristics of our plasmonic system indicate a significant potential application in integrated optical circuits such as optical storage, ultrafast plasmonic switch, highly performance filter, and slow light devices.  相似文献

Based on analytic formulas and numerical simulations, we propose a plasmonic cavity with a top Au grating and bottom Au film to enhance quantum-well infrared photodetectors (QWIPs) operating at wavelengths between 2 to 30 μm. By using plasmonic cavity modes, QWIPs can detect light even at normal incidence. With using optimal structural parameters, light can be almost perfectly absorbed by the cavity and over 54 % of the light is absorbed by the QW active region. Compared with the reference structure (without Au layers and with an isotropic active region), the absorption enhancement is over 30 times in the QW active region at normal incidence and remains high value (>4.5) for p -polarized light in a broad range of incident angle (|??| < 60 0).  相似文献

Lichen symbioses are defined as a symbiotic relationship between a mycobiont (generally an ascomycete) and one or more photobionts (green algae or/and cyanobacteria). It was proposed that cephalodia emancipation is an evolutionary driver for photobiont switch from chlorophyte to cyanobacteria. In this study we want to test the monophyly of cyanolichens and to measure the phylogenetic signal of the symbiotic relationship between cyanobacteria and a mycobiont partner in the lichen genus Pseudocyphellaria. This genus includes some species that have a chlorophyte as primary photobiont (and Nostoc in internal cephalodia), while others have only cyanobacteria. In a phylogenetic framework we measure the phylogenetic signal (or phylogenetic dispersion) as well as mapped photobiont switches performing stochastic character mapping. Results show that having cyanobacteria as main photobiont has a strong phylogenetic signal that follows a Brownian motion model. Seven clades in the phylogeny had an ancestor with cyanobacteria. Reversal to a green algae photobiont is rare. Several switches were estimated through evolutionary time suggesting that there was some flexibility in these traits along the phylogeny; however, close relatives retained cyanobacteria as main photobiont throughout the cyanolichen’s history. Photobiont switches from green algae to cyanobacteria might enhance ecotypical differentiation. These ecotypes could lead to several speciation events in the new lineage resulting in the phylogenetic signal found in this study. We give insights into the origin of lichen diversity exploring the photobiont switch in a phylogenetic context in Pseudocyphellaria s. l. as a model genus.  相似文献

We propose an ultrasmall plasmonic cavity based on the channel waveguides for chemical sensing. The plasmonic mode gap due to cutoff angular frequency enables strong optical confinement in a subwavelength volume and suppression of radiation loss. Due to strong field overlap of the surface plasmon polariton mode with environmental material, large sensitivity (1,100 nm/refractive index unit) and a high figure of merit (330) are achieved in the plasmonic cavity with a small physical size of 600?×?800?×?2,500 nm having a telecommunication resonant wavelength. This plasmonic cavity can introduce a broad range of applications including biochemical sensing and strong light–matter interactions.  相似文献

A high performance plasmonic sensor based on a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide coupled with a double-cavity structure consisting of a side-coupled rectangular cavity and a disk cavity is proposed. The transmission characteristics of the rectangular cavity and disk cavity are analyzed theoretically and the improvements of performance for the double-cavity structure compared with a single cavity are studied. The influence of structural parameters on the transmission spectra and sensing performance are investigated in detail. A sensitivity of 1136 nm/RIU with a high figure of merit of 51,275 can be achieved at the resonant wavelength of 1148.5 nm. Due to the high performance and easy fabrication, the proposed structure may be applied in integrated optical circuits and on-chip nanosensors.  相似文献

The need for an easy to fabricate perfect and narrowband light absorber in the visible range of electromagnetic (EM) spectrum has always been in demand for many scientific and device applications. Here, we propose a metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) 1-D grating plasmonic structure as a perfect narrow band light absorber in the visible and its application in glucose detection. The proposed structure consists of a 1- D grating of gold on the top of a dielectric layer on a gold film. Optimization for dielectric grating index (n), grating thickness (t), grating width (W), and grating period (P) has been done to improve the performance of plasmonic structure by calculating its quality factor and figure-of-merit (FOM). The optimized plasmonic structure behaves as a perfect narrowband light absorber. The flexibility to work at a specific wavelength is also offered by the proposed structure through an appropriate selection of the geometrical parameters and refractive index of the dielectric grating. The equivalent RC model is used to understand different components of the proposed structure on the optical response. The absorption response of the structure is invariant to the incident angle. Moreover, the calculated absorbance of the proposed plasmonic structure is ~ 100% with a narrow full-width half maxima (FWHM) of ~ 2.8 nm. We have numerically demonstrated a potential application of the proposed MDM absorber as a plasmonic glucose sensor in the visible range with detection sensitivity in the range of 140 to 195 nm/RIU.

Active plasmonic devices are mostly designed at visible frequencies. Here, we propose an active terahertz (THz) plasmonic lens tuned by an external magnetic field. Unlike other tunable devices where the tuning is achieved by changing the plasma frequency of materials, the proposed active lens is tuned by changing the cyclotron frequency through manipulating magnetoplasmons (MPs). We have theoretically investigated the dispersion relation of MPs of a semiconductor?Cinsulator?Csemiconductor structure in the Voigt configuration and systematically designed several lenses realized with a doped semiconductor slab perforated with sub-wavelength slits. It is shown through finite?Cdifference time?Cdomain simulations that THz wave propagating through the designed structure can be focused to a small size spot via the control of MPs. The tuning range of the focal length under the applied magnetic field (up to 1?T) is ??3??, about 50% of the original focal length. Various lenses, including one with two focal spots and a tunable lens for dipole source imaging, are realized for the proposed structure, demonstrating the flexibility of the design approach. The proposed tunable THz plasmonic lenses may find applications in THz science and technology such as THz imaging.  相似文献
