| Abstract: | Haematococcus lacustris incubated on a nutrient-depleted medium utilised acetate-2-14C] from the medium and carbon fixed photosynthetically for the biosynthesis of ketocarotenoids. Conversion of β-carotene to astaxanthin occurs via the intermediates echinenone and canthaxanthin. |
