For sequence analysis of the 12S rRNA gene in spined loaches, specimens of the following taxa were used: Sabanejewia balcanica, Cobitis paludica, C. bilineata, C. fahireae, C. elazigensis, C. elongata , two different sub-populations of C. taenia and four different sub-populations of C. turcica . Phylogenetic relationships among taxa were estimated using parsimony, neighbor-joining, and maximum likelihood algorithms. The calculation of the transition-tranversion ratio indicated that the taxa analysed were rather distantly related. Our analyses using the genus Sabanejewia as an outgroup suggest that C. bilineata is separated from the subgenus Cobitis sensu stricto and placed together with C. elongata as basal to all other species of the genus Cobitis . Support for the placement of C. paludica as basal to both the subgenera Bicanestrinia and Cobitis s. s. (without C. bilineata ) is given by outcomes from three independent methods of phylogenetic reconstruction. A sister-taxon relationship for the subgenera Bicanestrinia and Cobitis s. s. without C. bilineata was consistently found. C. elazigensis was closely related to the population of C. turcica from Lake Beysehir in Turkey. Both formed a sister-group to the remaining populations of C. turcica , while C. fahireae was basal to C. taenia . A molecular clock was calculated based on sequence divergence values and palaeogeographical data. This suggests that different historical colonization routes must have been used by different clades of spined loaches.  相似文献

Lignin from aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) tissue cultures containing only mature vessels and undifferentiated parenchymatous cells is exclusively of the guaiacyl type normally associated with gymnosperms. This supports the theory that the guaiacyl and syringyl lignin in angiosperm wood is compartmentalized, with guaiacyl lignin in vessels and syringyl lignin in fibers and ray cells.  相似文献

1. Floodplains and their water bodies are typical ecotopes of large lowland rivers. The lowland Oder River, Germany, provided a rare opportunity to study fish assemblages of comparable floodplain water bodies differing by >50 years of isolation history. We hypothesised that true floodplain specialists peak in rarely connected water bodies, while frequently flooded waters support tolerant generalists. 2. Three macrohabitats, main channel (MC), temporarily connected and isolated floodplain water bodies, were sampled by electro‐fishing and their fish assemblage characters recorded. 3. Long‐term isolation of floodplain water bodies had a significant effect on the fish assemblage by promoting species preferring still water. Limnophilic and floodplain specialist species significantly increased with isolation. 4. Fish densities, species richness and diversity clearly differed between MC sites and floodplain water bodies. Shannon’s species diversity index peaked in both the MC and isolated waters and was lowest in the temporarily flooded waters where eurytopic fish dominated. 5. The significant gain in abundance and numbers of limnophilic species in the isolated compared to the temporarily flooded water bodies underpinned the significant contribution of long‐term isolated waters to the gamma‐diversity of large floodplain rivers, which should be considered in floodplain rehabilitation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT There are many challenges facing natural resources programs in North American higher education today. Pressures exerted by a new generation of students, changing workplace requirements (including undergraduate core-knowledge requirements), and an increasingly specialized professoriate are great but not insurmountable. We discuss each of these issues and pose potential solutions to address each including adopting new pedagogical techniques for content delivery (e.g., adapting courses to be inclusive of new technologies), revising curriculum to meet the needs of a new suite of learners (e.g., developing curricula that allow structured flexibility of choices, designing a core curriculum that is a mix of single-discipline courses and courses that integrate across disciplines), and new strategies for faculty engagement in discipline-specific survey courses. By remaining deliberate and effective in our pursuit of quality higher education we have the opportunity to ensure we are delivering the best possible education to the future professionals of our disciplines.  相似文献

Aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) callus tissue grown on a synthetic medium containing either an auxin (2,4-dichloro-phenoxyacetic acid) or cytokinin [6-(3-methyl-2-butenylamino) purine] differed in growth rate, total peroxidase activity, peroxidase isoenzyme expression, and in lignin, cell wall sugars and extractive content. Tissue treated with auxin increased more rapidly in fresh weight, but stopped growing sooner than did the cytokinin-treated tissues. Lignification also proceeded more rapidly, and lignin formed a greater fraction of the cell wall weight in auxin-treated tissue. For both treatments, peroxidase activity and growth rate were positively related (r = 0.96). Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis showed some quantitative, but few qualitative, isoenzyme differences with hormonal treatment and growth rate.  相似文献
