Developmental and reproductive rates ofAdonia variegataGoeze,Coccinella novemnotataHerbst,C. septempunctataL., andC. undecimpunctataL. were studied in wheat and barley in Central Saudi Arabia. Beetles were reared in the laboratory at 25 ± 2°C onBrevicoryne brassicae(L.) andRhopalosiphum padiL.A. variegataandC. undecimpunctatahad significantly higher egg hatching (X = 81.8 and 74.5%), adult longevity (X = 71.8 and 70.0 days), and survival (X = 61.8 and 61.5%), respectively.Coccinella undecimpunctatahad the highest fecundity (X = 370.5 eggs/female) and longest oviposition period (X = 29.8 days).C. septempunctataexhibited the lowest values for these biological parameters. No differences were evident in the total developmental time or egg and pupal duration, although species differences occurred in the larval duration. Larvae ofA. variegatadeveloped faster (X = 11.8 days) than Larvae ofC. septempunctata(X = 12.0 days),C. undecimpunctata(X = 12.2 days), orC. novemnotata(X = 13.1 days). The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) and predicted population density were higher forC. undecimpunctata(X = 0.093 and 98553) after 60 days than forC. novemnotata(X = 0.088 and 59405),C. septempunctata(X = 0.086 and 35033), orA. variegata(X = 0.082 and 37991), respectively.  相似文献

This study evaluated the effect of application of the semisynthetic triterpenes 3β-acetoxy-norlup-20-one (F4) and 3-chloro-4α,14α-dimethyl-5α-cholest-8-ene (F6) triterpene derivatives from Euphorbia officinarum on the growth of tomato seedlings under normal conditions and when challenged with the pathogens Verticillium dahliae and Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Foliar spray of F4 and F6 significantly improved growth rate, fresh weight, dry weight, and leaf area. In addition, they enhanced several physiological parameters including photosynthetic pigments, proline content, and nitrate reductase activity. Moreover, they induced H2O2 accumulation and increased the activity of several antioxidant enzymes such as catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and guaiacol peroxidase. They also enhanced disease resistance against V. dahliae and A. tumefaciens. These results suggest that the two semisynthetic triterpenes represent new plant growth regulators and inducers of plant disease resistance.

Triazine-2-14C metsulfuron–methyl is a selective, systemic sulfonylurea herbicide. Degradation studies in soils are essential for the evaluation of the persistence of pesticides and their breakdown products. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the degradation of triazine-2-14C metsulfuron–methyl in soil under laboratory conditions. A High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) equipped with an UV detector and an on-line radio-chemical detector, plus a Supelco Discovery column (250 x 4.6 mm, 5 μm), and PRP–1 column (305 x 7.0 mm, 10 μm) was used for the HPLC analysis. The radioactivity was determined by a Liquid Scintillation Counter (LSC) in scintillation fluid. The soil used was both sterilized and non-sterilized in order to observe the involvement of soil microbes. The estimated DT50 and DT90 values of metsulfuron-methyl in a non-sterile system were observed to be 13 and 44 days, whereas in sterilized soil, the DT50 and DT90 were 31 and 70 days, respectively. The principal degradation product after 60 days was CO2. The higher cumulative amount of 14CO2 in 14C- triazine in the non-sterilized soil compared to that in the sterile system suggests that biological degradation by soil micro-organisms significantly contributes to the dissipation of the compound. The major routes of degradation were O-demethylation, sulfonylurea bridge cleavage and the triazine “ring-opened.”  相似文献

Cell migration occurs as a highly-regulated cycle of cell polarization, membrane extension at the leading edge, adhesion, contraction of the cell body, and release from the extracellular matrix at the trailing edge. In this study, we investigated the involvement of SNARE-mediated membrane trafficking in cell migration. Using a dominant-negative form of the enzyme N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor as a general inhibitor of SNARE-mediated membrane traffic and tetanus toxin as a specific inhibitor of VAMP3/cellubrevin, we conducted transwell migration assays and determined that serum-induced migration of CHO-K1 cells is dependant upon SNARE function. Both VAMP3-mediated and VAMP3-independent traffic were involved in regulating this cell migration. Inhibition of SNARE-mediated membrane traffic led to a decrease in the protrusion of lamellipodia at the leading edge of migrating cells. Additionally, the reduction in cell migration resulting from the inhibition of SNARE function was accompanied by perturbation of a Rab11-containing alpha(5)beta(1) integrin compartment and a decrease in cell surface alpha(5)beta(1) without alteration to total cellular integrin levels. Together, these observations suggest that inhibition of SNARE-mediated traffic interferes with the intracellular distribution of integrins and with the membrane remodeling that contributes to lamellipodial extension during cell migration.  相似文献

This work focused on the effect triterpene derivative 24-methylen-elemo-lanosta-8,24-dien-3-one (F3) on the induction of salt stress tolerance of the Moroccan grapevine cv. “Doukkali”. Hardwood cuttings of the grapevine from a homogeneous plant material collected in the field were grown in hydroponic medium under different salt concentrations and treated with 50 or 100 µg ml?1 of F3. Salt stress affected several physiological and biochemical parameters including relative water content, chlorophyll a and b content, peroxidase, and polyphenol oxidase activities, which decreased along with time. Meanwhile, proline, proteins, soluble sugars, H2O2, and carotenoid content, as well as phenolic compound content increased, suggesting an evidence of tolerance of this local variety to salinity. An exogenous supply of the triterpenic product increased all these parameters under normal conditions. In addition, F3 at low dose was found to be successful in lowering Na+ content and alleviating the inhibitory effects of salt stress on relative water content as well as on chlorophyll a and b.  相似文献

In the present study, the effect of seaweed extract (SE) from Fucus spiralis (Fs), Cystoseira myriophylloides (Cm) and Laminaria digitata (Ld) on in vitro plant tissue culture was examined. Combination of 25?% of SE from Cm with 25?% of MS medium increased adventitious shoot regeneration from Nicotiana benthamiana leaf discs explants by 620?%, when compared to the conventional regeneration medium. Similarly SE from Fs and Ld enhanced regeneration by about 500?%. However, when increasing SE to 50?%, only Cm significantly enhanced shoot regeneration. The effect of SE was also evaluated on in vitro micropropagation of N. benthamiana, grape, plum and apricot by assessing shoot length, number of leaves and internodes. When used alone but at lower concentrations (2.5 and 12.5?%), SE from Fs and Cm resulted in at least the same efficacy as MS alone for micropropagation of N. benthamiana shoots. However, for micropropagation of grapevine, plum and apricot woody plants, a combination of 50?% of SE from Cm or Fs with 50?% of their conventional micropropagation media was necessary. Rooting was also enhanced in N. benthamiana and grapevine, and was correlated with their higher concentrations of indole acetic acid when compared to SE from Ld. This finding, in addition to mineral analysis data, suggests that SE of Fs and Cm contain necessary nutrients and growth regulators to allow their use as medium for in vitro plant culture.  相似文献

General Characteristics of the optimal feed rate profiles have been deduced for various fed-batch fermentation processes by analyzing singular controls and singular arcs. The optimal control sequences depend on the shapes of the specific growth and product formation rates, mu andpi, and the initial conditions. For fed-batch processes described by four mass balance equations, the most general optimal control sequence consists of a period of maximum feed rate, a period of minimum feed rate (a batch period), a period of singular feed rate (variable and intermediate), and a batch period. Degenerate sequences in which one or more periods are missing can result with a particular set of initial conditions. If the fermentation time is not critical, the singular control maximizes the net yield of product and only when the time is also important, it balances a trade off between the yield of product and the specific growth rate which dictates the fermentation time. With the sequence of optimal control known, the optimal feed rate profile determination is reduced to a problem of determining switching times.  相似文献
