We have previously shown that supernatant from Candida albicans (CA) culture contains a Secretory Interleukin (IL)-12 Inhibitory Factor (CA-SIIF), which inhibits IL-12 production by human monocytes. Pro-oxidant and anti-oxidant systems and their levels have significant roles in occlusive vascular diseases. In the present communication, we have measured the levels of some representative anti-oxidant enzymes in the blood of the patients of myocardial infarction after reperfusion and compared them to age and sex matched healthy persons. Our findings show that the activities of anti-oxidant enzymes (viz. SOD, catalase and glutathione reductase) are significantly decreased whereas there is significant increase in the levels of malonaldialdehyde (a marker of free radical-mediated damage) in the patients. The findings point out that ischemic myocardial disorders are associated with excessive free radical generation and free radical-mediated damage of lipids. 相似文献

Background
Tracing the genetic origin of central European farmer N1a lineages can provide a unique opportunity to assess the patterns of the farming technology spread into central Europe in the human prehistory. Here, we have chosen twelve N1a samples from modern populations which are most similar with the farmer N1a types and performed the complete mitochondrial DNA genome sequencing analysis. Summary Embryonic chick cardiac cell cultures, plated on collagen-coated dishes, containing serum-free synthetic media proliferate
actively. The basic medium contained Ham's F12 nutrient mixture, fetuin, ascorbic acid, and bovine serum albumin. This medium
was supplemented with various combinations of factors; endothelial cell growth supplement (ECGS), epidermal growth factor
(EGF), insulin (I), transferrin (T), selenium (S), hydrocortisone, and thyroxine or supplemented alone. Basic medium supplemented
with ECGS alone contributes to the highest final cell density among all other factors used in various combinations or alone.
The final cell density of the control culture with 2% fetal bovine serum was higher than those of all experimental cultures
and an additional control culture grown in the basic medium. Combinations of factors without ECGS do not promote significant
cell proliferation. Thyroxine is required to induce optimal differentiation and contractility of cardiac myocytes in vitro.
Fibronectin and laminin did not show any more influence than collagen did on the growth and maintenance of cardiac myocytes
in serum-free media. The proportion of cardiac muscle cells in ECGS-containing media was higher than those in other experimental
media and control media with the exception of ECGS and ITS-containing medium that showed lower proportion of cardiac myocytes
than that of serum-containing medium on Days 3 and 5. The profiles of incorporation of [3H]thymidine into DNA of heart cells in experimental and control cultures showed a peak in incorporation values within the
first week of culture and subsequently declined. Autoradiography studies revealed that cardiac myocytes in culture supplemented
with ECGS alone attained a peak in labeling index on Day 1 with approximately 62% labeled cells. Subsequently, the labeling
indices declined. Cardiac myocytes grown in media without ECGS showed significantly lower labeling indices than those in ECGS-containing
media. This study has demonstrated the influence of ECGS, EGF and ITS in promoting the growth of cardiac myocytes and also
in contributing to the maintenance of contractile cardiac myocytes in serum-free, long-term culture. The influence of ECGS
on heart cell proliferation is considered to be superior to that of EGF and ITS.

The histidine rich protein II (HRPII) from Plasmodium falciparum has been implicated as a heme polymerase which detoxifies free heme by its polymerization to inactive hemozoin. Histidine-iron center coordination is the dominant mechanism of interaction between the amino acid and heme. The protein also contains aspartate allowing for ionic/coordination interactions between the carboxylate side chain and the heme metal center. The pH profile of heme binding and polymerization shows the possibility of these two types of binding sites being differentiated by pH. Circular dichroism studies of the protein show that pH and heme binding cause a change in conformation above pH 6 implying the involvement of His-His+ transitions. Heme binding at pHs above 6 perturbs HRPII conformation, causing an increase in helicity. 相似文献

for predicting the functional class of distantly related proteins, is employed to ascribe a possible functional class to Japanese encephalitis virus protein. Our study from SVMProt and available JE virus sequences
suggests that structural and nonstructural proteins of JEV genome possibly belong to diverse protein functions, are expected to occur in the life cycle of JE virus. Protein functions common to both structural and
non-structural proteins are iron-binding, metal-binding, lipid-binding, copper-binding, transmembrane, outer membrane, channels/Pores - Pore-forming toxins (proteins and peptides) group of proteins. Non-structural
proteins perform functions like actin binding, zinc-binding, calcium-binding, hydrolases, Carbon-Oxygen Lyases, P-type ATPase, proteins belonging to major facilitator family (MFS), secreting main terminal branch (MTB)

Observations on phenology of some representative trees, shrubs, under-shrubs and herbs in a subalpine forest of Uttarakhand, western Himalaya were recorded. With the commencement of favorable growth season in April, occurrence of leaf fall was indicatory growth phenomenon in Quercus semecarpifolia, Q. floribunda and Abies spectabilis. However, active vegetative growth in herbaceous species starts onward April and fruit maturation and seed dehiscence are completed from mid of September to October. In general, vegetative growth and reproductive stages in majority of the studied species seems to be dependent on adequate moisture content and also flowering and fruiting in subalpine plants correlate ambient temperature. 相似文献

Abstract A highly sensitive nested polymerase chain reaction method was designed for the detection of a wide spectrum of strains from Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato. This technique allows the detection of as little as 3 fg of total genomic DNA extracted and purified from pure cultures of the organism, this amount corresponds to less than 10 organisms. Two sets of primers homologous to conserved spots in the coding region of the hbb gene, encoding a conserved histone-like protein, were constructed.
