The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of zinc deficiency and supplementation on lipid peroxidation and glutathione
levels in blood and in some tissues of rats performing swimming exercise. Forty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided
into four groups: group 1, zinc-deficient consisted of swimming rats; group 2 consisted of zinc-supplemented swimming rats;
groups 3 and 4 were the swimming and nonswimming controls, respectively. The levels of malondialdehyde and glutathione were
measured after 4 wk of zinc-deficient or zinc-supplemented diet and 30 min of swimming exercise daily.
The erythrocyte glutathione levels of groups 2 and 4 were significantly higher than those of groups 1 and 3 (p<0.01). The plasma malondialdehyde level of group 1 was significantly higher than all other groups. The glutathione levels
in liver, kidney, striated muscle, and testes of group 2 were higher than in the other groups (p<0.01) and higher in kidney and striated muscle of group 3 than in groups 1 and 4 (p<0.01). The tissue malondialdehyde levels of striated muscle, liver, kidney, and testes of group 1 were significantly higher
than for all other groups (p<0.01). Our findings suggest that both swimming exercise and zinc deficiency result in an increase of lipid peroxidation in
tissues and that zinc supplementation prevents these alterations by the activation of the antioxidant system. 相似文献

The present study aims to examine the effect of supplementation of zinc on the distribution of various elements in the sera
of diabetic rats subjected to an acute swimming exercise. A total of 80 Sprague–Dawley-type adult male rats were equally allocated
to one of eight groups: Group 1, general; Group 2, zinc-supplemented; Group 3, zinc-supplemented diabetic; Group 4, swimming
control; Group 5, zinc-supplemented swimming; Group 6, zinc-supplemented diabetic swimming; Group 7, diabetic swimming; and
Group 8, diabetes. The rats were injected with 40 mg/kg/day subcutaneous streptozotocin (STZ) twice, with a 24-h interval
between two injections. Zinc was supplemented at a dose of 6 mg/kg/day (ip) for 4 weeks. Blood samples were collected at the
end of the 4-week study, and serum levels of lead, cobalt, molybdenum, chrome, sulfur, magnesium, manganese, sodium, potassium,
phosphorus, copper, iron, calcium, zinc, and selenium (mg/L) were determined with atomic emission. The lowest molybdenum,
chrome, copper, iron, potassium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, lead, selenium, and zinc values were obtained in Group 7 and
8. These same parameters were higher in the swimming exercise group (Group 4), relative to all other groups. The values in
zinc-supplemented groups were found lower than the values in Group 4, but higher than those in Group 6 and 7. The results
obtained from the study demonstrate that acute swimming exercise and diabetes affect the distribution of various elements
in the serum, while zinc supplementation can prevent the negative conditions associated with both exercise and diabetes. 相似文献

Thyroid dysfunction brings about pathological changes in different organs of the body. The aim of the present study was to examine how experimental hypothyroidism and additional short-term high-dose thyroxine administration (one-week) affected lipid peroxidation in renal and testicular tissues of rats. The study was carried out on 30 male Spraque-Dawley rats. The experimental animals were divided into 3 groups as control, hypothyroidism and hypothyroidism + thyroxine administration. Both malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels were lower in renal and testicular tissues of the hypothyroidism group than the control and hypothyroidism + thyroxine administration groups and the levels in hypothyroidism + thyroxine administration group were higher than those in the control and hypothyroidism groups (p < 0.001). Results of the study demonstrate that hypothyroidism reduced oxidant stress in kidney and testis tissues, but short-term, high-dose thyroxine administration in addition to hypothyroidism increased oxidant stress in the same tissues of rats. 相似文献

Impairment of thyroid functions brings about pathological changes in different organs of body. Findings of in vivo and in vitro studies indicate that thyroid hormones have a considerable impact on oxidative stress. Melatonin reduces oxidative damage through its free radical eliminating and direct anti-oxidant effects. The present study was undertaken to determine how a 3-week period of intraperitoneal melatonin administration affected oxidative damage caused in experimental hyperthyroidism in rat. The experimental animals were divided into 3 groups (control, hyperthyroidism, hyperthyroidism+melatonin). Malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels were determined in different tissues. MDA levels in cerebral, liver and cardiac tissues in hyperthyroidism group were significantly higher than those in control and hyperthyroidism+melatonin supplemented groups (p<0.001). The highest GSH levels were observed in the group that was administered melatonin in addition to having hyperthyroidism (p<0.001). These results show that hyperthyroidism increased oxidative damage in cerebral, hepatic and cardiac tissues of rat. Melatonin supplementation may also suppress oxidative damage. 相似文献

The present study aims to evaluate the effect of selenium supplementation on lipid peroxidation and lactate levels in rats
subjected to acute swimming exercise. Thirty-two adult male rats of Sprague–Dawley type were divided into four groups. Group
1, control; group 2, selenium-supplemented; group 3, swimming control; group 4, selenium-supplemented swimming group. The
animals in groups 2 and 4 were supplemented with (i.p.) 6 mg/kg/day sodium selenite for 4 weeks. The blood samples taken from
the animals by decapitation method were analyzed in terms of erythrocyte-reduced glutathione (GSH), serum glutathione peroxidase
(GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) and lactate using the colorimetric method, and serum
selenium values using an atomic emission device. In the study, the highest MDA and lactate values were found in group 3, while
the highest GSH, GPx and SOD values were obtained in group 4 (p < 0,001). Group 2 had the highest and group 3 had the lowest selenium levels (p < 0,001). Results of the study indicate that the increase in free radical production and lactate levels due to acute swimming
exercise in rats might be offset by selenium supplementation. Selenium supplementation may be important in that it supports
the antioxidant system in physical activity. 相似文献

The effect of peroxynitrite (PN), a highly toxic agent, on catalase (CAT) activity in fish liver microsomal homogenates was determined. PN was synthesized by mixing acidic hydrogen peroxide solution with sodium nitrite solution and then adding sodium hydroxide solution into the mixture in order to stabilize the highly labile compound peroxynitrous acid (ONOOH) in peroxynitrite anion form (ONOO(- )). The effect of PN and decomposed peroxynitrite (DPN), prepared by preincubation with HCl, was monitored by using a constant amount of homogenate containing the CAT enzyme. Significant losses were observed in the CAT activity of fish liver enzyme after treatment with PN and also with DPN products, the inhibitory effect of PN being slightly more pronounced than that of DPN. IC(50) values were 5.5 and 8.5 microM for PN and DPN, respectively. The PN inhibition of CAT activity is due to both the effects of the secondary and decomposition products of PN and its nitration and oxidation effects on the amino acid residues of the enzyme. 相似文献

Effects of hyperthyroidism induced by L-thyroxin administration on lipid peroxidation in various rat tissues 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Thyroid dysfunctions are associated with many pathological signs in the body. One of these is lipid peroxidation that develops due to over- or under-secretion of thyroid hormones. The present study was conducted to determine lipid peroxidation that develops in different tissues including the brain, liver and heart of rats in experimental hyperthyroidism induced by L-thyroxin. The study was carried out on 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats. They were divided into three groups as control, sham hyperthyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels in rat tissues were determined at the end of a 3-weeks period of L-thyroxin administration. It was observed that MDA levels in the hyperthyroidism group were significantly higher in the cerebral cortex, liver and ventriculer tissue of heart (p < 0.001) than in the control and in sham hyperthyroidism groups. GSH levels were higher in the hyperthyroidism group than in control and sham hyperthyroidism groups in all tissues (p < 0.001). Results demonstrate that hyperthyroidism induced by L-thyroxin activates both oxidant and antioxidant systems in cerebral, hepatic and cardiac tissues. However, the increase in antioxidant activity cannot adequately prevent oxidative damage. 相似文献
