A 2‐year study was performed in two sites in southern France to assess the effect of ivermectin residues on the attractiveness of cattle dung to colonizing insects. Insect captures were compared between pitfall traps baited with dung from untreated cattle and dung from cattle that had been treated with a slow‐release (SR) bolus of ivermectin. Cattle dung was collected at different times after treatment (4, 14, 42, 70 and 98 days). Excretion showed a plateau, with levels ranging between 0.688 µg and 1.123 µg ivermectin per gram of wet dung. Faecal residues affected insect captures at both sites. Effects were independent of the time dung was collected after treatment, except for one result subsequent to a severe drought during the baiting period. Ivermectin‐contaminated dung showed a significant attractive effect, with increased captures regardless of the guild to which beetles belonged. This study demonstrates the attractiveness of ivermectin residues over a long period after the treatment of animals. It draws attention to the danger of widespread use of this endectocide‐based SR bolus, which is attributable to the preferential attraction of insects to treated dung, which potentially puts at risk the survival of their offspring.  相似文献

Potato late blight is an example of a re‐emerging disease of plants. Phytophthora infestans was first introduced into Europe during the 19th century, where it caused the Irish potato famine. During the 20th century several additional introduction events have been suspected, especially in the mid‐70s due to the import of large quantities of potato needed after the shortage caused by drought in 1976. Here, we investigate the genetic population structure of Phytophthora infestans, at the first stages of a recent invasion process in France. A total of 220 isolates was collected from 20 commercial fields of the potato susceptible cultivar Bintje, during two consecutive years (2004 and 2005). Clustering analyses based on eight recently developed microsatellite markers reveal that French P. infestans populations are made of two differentiated genetic clusters of isolates (FST = 0.19). This result suggests multiple introductions of P. infestans into France, either through the introduction of a composite population of isolates or through the successive introduction of isolates having differentiated genetic backgrounds. Both clusters identified have a strong clonal structure and are similar regarding genetic diversity and mating type composition. The maintenance of differentiation between the two genetic clusters should result from the low or non‐existent contribution of sexual reproduction in French P. infestans populations.  相似文献

Two tetraploid subspecies of Dactylis glomerata L., subsp. reichenbachii (Hausm.) Stebbins et Zohary and subsp. glomerata , occur in the French Alps. The former is confined to dolomitic, south-facing, alpine lawns above 2000 m, whereas the latter occurs in non-dolomitic habitats in subalpine meadows mainly below 1900 m. Previous studies of allozyme variation have shown that genetic introgression between the two subspecies occurs over large areas. By contrast, morphologically intermediate individuals only occur in an extremely narrow area, suggesting that the morphological and physiological differences between the two subspecies is of adaptive significance. A reciprocal clone transplant experiment was set up to examine (1) any genetic differences between subspecies indicative of ecotypic differentiation in relation to habitat characteristics and (2) the level of phenotypic plasticity in the two subspecies. Genetic differentiation was confirmed by a statistically significant taxon × site interaction effect in anova for all traits studied. The glomerata populations produced more tillers, longer leaves and higher culms in all sites, especially in their home environment. However, reichenbachii populations produced more seeds than the glomerata populations in the original reichenbachii environment, suggesting ecotypic differentiation between the two subspecies. This result might also explain why the glomerata subspecies is unable to colonize dolomitic habitats occupied by the reichenbachii subspecies. The reichenbachii populations showed less plasticity than the glomerata populations for leaf length and floriferous tiller number, a result which is discussed in the context of the response of plants from productive and non-productive habitats to environmental variation.  相似文献

Whereas polyploidy has been found in more than half the Gramineae, the occurrence of 2n gametes, a potentially major mechanismof polyploid production, has been rarely studied. In the presentwork, the frequency of 2n egg production in nine diploid (n= 2x = 14) subspecies of the polyploid complex Dactylis glomeratahas been estimated by determining the ploidy level of the progenyin 98 2X-4X crosses. The 2n egg origin of the 4X offspring wasverified using enzyme markers. The frequency of 2n egg productionin each subspecies was estimated from the number of 4X offspring, the number of florets in the seed plant and the fertility ofthe subspecies. The ploidy level of the progeny was determinedby chromosome counts or nuclear DNA quantification using flowcytometry. Plants producing 2n eggs were detected in 47% ofthe fertile crosses, involving eight subspecies. Variabilitywas related to individuals and not to subspecies. Average 2negg frequency was 0·49% for all crosses, and 1·53%for crosses where 2n egg production was detected. Individualfrequencies did not exceed 3·5%, with the exception of26% in one plant. Triploid block was higher and fertility, frequencyof high 2n gamete producers and average 2n gamete frequencywere lower in the 2X-4X crosses than in the opposite 4X-2X crossesinvolving the same plants, previously studied. Diplogynous anddiplandrous gamete production were not correlated with eachother. However, the widespread occurrence of plants producingboth kinds of 2n gametes in almost all the studied subspecies,as well as the presence of several individuals able to producehigh rates of 2n eggs or 2n pollen, support the hypothesis thattetraploids can be formed anywhere and anytime by sexual polyploidizationin diploid populations of Dactylis glomerata L. 2n eggs, polyploidy, Dactylis glomerata L., flow cytometry, sexual polyploidization  相似文献

The African baobab ( Adansonia digitata L.) is an emblematic, culturally important, and physically huge tropical tree species whose natural geographical distribution comprises most of tropical Africa, but also small patches of southern Arabia, and several Atlantic and Indian Ocean islands surrounding the African continent, notably including Madagascar. We analysed the polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism of five chloroplast DNA fragments obtained from 344 individuals of A. digitata collected from 74 populations covering the entire extant distribution range of the species. Our goal was to reconstruct the phylogeographical history of the species and, if possible, to identify its centre of origin, which has been a subject of controversy for many decades. We identified five haplotypes whose distribution is clearly geographically structured. Using several species of Adansonia and of closely related genera as outgroups, the haplotypes showed a clear phylogeographical pattern of three groups. Two are phylogenetically related to the outgroup taxa, and are distributed in West Africa. The third group is substantially more differentiated genetically from outgroup species, and it corresponds to southern and eastern Africa, Arabia and the Indian Ocean islands, including Madagascar. According to our results, the tetraploid A. digitata , or its diploid progenitor, probably originated in West Africa and migrated subsequently throughout the tropical parts of that continent, and beyond, by natural and human-mediated terrestrial and overseas dispersal.  相似文献

The reproductive capacities of the females (male-steriles or mS) of Thymus vulgaris L. have been investigated, in terms of size and weight of plants, seed production, germination ability and pollination. The data, collected during nine years under controlled conditions and in natural situations are discussed in comparison with the results known in the literature. It is suggested that the large diversity of characteristics promoting sexual polymorphism could justify the high and variable rates of mS met in natural conditions in T. vulgaris.  相似文献
