The identification of northern and southern components in different vertebrate species led researchers to accept a two‐component hypothesis for the Brazilian Atlantic forest (BAF). Nevertheless, neither a formal proposal nor a meta‐analysis to confirm this coincidence was ever made. Our main objective here was therefore to systematically test in how many vertebrate components the BAF could be divided by analysing existing empirical data. We used two approaches: (1) mapping and comparing the proposed areas of vertebrate endemism in the BAF and (2) analysing studies mentioning spatial subdivisions in distinct forest‐dependent vertebrates within the biome, by the use of panbiogeography. The four large‐scale endemism area components together with the six small‐scale panbiogeographical ones allowed the definition of three BAF greater regions, subdivided into nine vertebrate components, latitudinally and longitudinally organized. Empirical time estimates of the diversification events within the BAF were also reviewed. Diversification of these vertebrates occurred not only in the Pleistocene but also throughout the Miocene. Our results confirm the BAF's complex history, both in space and time. We propose that future research should be small‐scale and focused in the vertebrate components identified herein. Recognition and acceptance of a suitable host plant by phytophagous insects requires the integration of visual, physical and chemical cues. The present study investigates the host cues that a specialist insect integrates to optimize oviposition decisions and whether these cues are weighted in a specific way. The study also determines whether the tomato fruit borer Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), an important pest on Solanaceae in Brazil, shows a preference for oviposition sites that differ in physical and/or chemical cues. When styrofoam balls are provided as artificial fruits, N. elegantalis deposit significantly more eggs on rough artificial fruits than on smooth ones. Hexane fruit extracts applied to the artificial fruits stimulate female oviposition strongly. Physical and chemical cues also affect the oviposition of females when offered together. Furthermore, certain parts of the artificial fruits are prefered, irrespective of the presence of chemical cues. Both physical and chemical cues affect oviposition decisions; hence, the fruit borer relies on cues of different sensory modalities.  相似文献

Abstract.  The genus Polietina Schnabl & Dziedzicki, 1911 (Diptera, Muscidae) groups 15 species distributed throughout the Neotropical region. Here, generic and specific diagnoses and a species identification key are provided, with cladistic and biogeographical analyses performed and results discussed. In the cladistic analysis, the application of equal, successive and implied character weighting schemes resulted in the single cladogram (( P. flavidicincta ( P. rubella ( P. concinna ( P. orbitalis , P. wulpi )))) ( P. steini (( P. flavithorax , P. major ) ( P. nigra , P. prima ) ( P. bicolor , P. minor , P. univittata )))). In the biogeographical analysis, the Brooks parsimony analysis was performed by experimenting several combinations of areas of endemism proposed previously in the literature, and one area cladogram ((Caribbean, north-west Amazonia) (south-east Amazonia (Chacoan, Paraná))) favours a previously proposed hypothesis of a composite history for Amazonia.  相似文献

Recently there has been evidence that contaminants other than organophosphate and carbamate pesticides may inhibit the activity of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) both under in vitro and in vivo conditions. In this study we investigated the in vitro effect of three detergents \[dodecyl benzyl sulphonate (DBS), sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and a mixture commonly used as domestic detergent (X)] and three metals \[molybdenum, barium and chromium (VI)] on AChE activity of Mytilus galloprovincialis haemolymph. All the detergents tested significantly inhibited the activity of the enzyme. The lowest observed effect concentrations were equal to 12 5 for DBS and 50 mg l-1 for SDS and X. Among the metals, molybdenum and barium had no effect on AChE activity, whereas chromium (VI) significantly depressed the activity of the enzyme at concentrations equal to or higher than 25 mg l-1. These results suggest that the use of AChE as a specific biomarker for organophosphate and carbamate pesticides should be questioned and that the use of this enzyme as a biomarker could be extended.  相似文献

Worldwide in distribution, the tribe Muscini comprises 21 accepted genera and about 350 species. In the present study, a cladistic analysis based upon adult morphological characters is carried out in order to discuss the monophyly of the tribe and its genera, the intergeneric relationships and, in some cases, also the intrageneric relationships. As a result, Muscini is supported as a monophyletic tribe sister-group of Stomoxyini. Except for Morellia Robineau-Desvoidy, Curranosia Paterson, and Eudasyphora Townsend, all the remaining genera are monophyletic. The results are dubious for Polietes Rondani, which was then provisionally kept unchanged. Morellia was broadened to include the Neotropical endemic genera Parapyrellia Townsend, Trichomorellia Stein, and Xenomorellia Malloch. Therefore, a new classification is proposed for Morellia in which it is divided into four subgenera: Morellia s.s. , Parapyrellia , Trichomorellia , and Xenomorellia . Furthermore, the previously proposed subgenus Dasysterna Zimin is given new status as a genus; however, as it is preoccupied by Dasysterna Dejean, the new replacement name Ziminellia nom. nov. is proposed herewith. Eudasyphora was found to be a paraphyletic group relative to Dasyphora Robineau-Desvoidy; both genera are hence synonymized, and Dasyphora is classified in three subgenera: Dasyphora s.s. , Eudasyphora , and Rypellia Malloch. The analysis demonstrated that the traditional classification of Musca Linnaeus into subgenera is artificial and, moreover, that the use of characters from male genitalia could be strongly informative for classifying the genus in phylogeny-supported species groups. Mammalian eggs are surrounded by two egg coats: the cumulus oophorus and the zona pellucida, which is an extracellular matrix composed of sulfated glycoproteins. The first association of the spermatozoon with the zona pellucida occurs between the zona glycoprotein, ZP3 and sperm receptors, located at the sperm plasma membrane, such as the 95kDa tyrosine kinase-protein. This association induces the acrosome reaction and exposes the proacrosin/acrosin system. Proacrosin transforms itself, by autoactivation, into the proteolytical active form: acrosin. This is a serine protease that has been shown to be involved in secondary binding of spermatozoa to the zona pellucida and in the penetration of mammalian spermatozoa through it. The zona pellucida is a specific and natural substrate for acrosin and its hydrolysis and fertilization can be inhibited by antiacrosin monoclonal antibodies. Moreover, inin vitrofertilization experiments, trypsin inhibitors significantly inhibits fertilization. The use of the silver-enhanced immunogold technique has allowed immunolocalization of the proacrosin/acrosin system in spermatozoa after the occurrence of the acrosome reaction. This system remains associated to the surface of the inner acrosomal membrane for several hours in human, rabbit and guinea-pig spermatozoa while in the hamster it is rapidly lost. In the hamster, the loss of acrosin parallels the capability of the sperm to cross the zona pellucida. Rabbit perivitelline spermatozoa can fertilize freshly ovulated rabbit eggs and retain acrosin in the equatorial and postacrosomal region. These spermatozoa also show digestion halos on gelatin plates that can be inhibited by trypsin inhibitors. This evidence strongly suggests the involvement of acrosin in sperm penetration through the mammalian zona. Recently it was shown, however, that acrosin would not be essential for fertilization. It is likely, then, that such an important phenomenon in the mammalian reproductive cycle would be ensured though several alternative mechanisms.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. In this study we have examined the distribution of epitopes defined by monoclonal antibodies raised against Trypanosoma cruzi amastigotes during the intraceullar life cycle of the parasite. We have raised monoclonal antibodies towards amastigote forms and performed preliminary immunochemical characterization of their reactivities. MAB 1D9, 3G8, 2B7, 3B9, and 4B9, and 4B9 react with carbohydrate epitopes of the parasite major surface glycoprotein—Ssp-4 defined by MAB 2C2 [5]: MAB 4B5 reacts with a noncarbohydrate epitope in all developmental stages of the parasite, and MAB 3B2 also detects a noncarbohydrate epitope preferentially in T. cruzi flagellared forms. Vero cells infected with tissue culture-derived trypomastigotes of clone D11 (G strain) were fixed at different times during the intraceullular proliferation of parasites, and processed for immjno-electron microscopy and confocal immunoflurescence with the different monoclonal antibodies. We observed that while the surface distribution of MAB 2C2 and 4B9 epitopes was uniform throughout the cycle, MAB 1D9, 3G8, and 2B7 reacted with cytoplasmic membrance-bound compartments of the amastigotes. MAB 3B9 displayed a unique surface dentate pattern in some amastigotes. MAB 4B5 recognized a curved-shaped structure at the flagellar pocket region in some intracellular amastigotes and localized to the membrane in dividing forms. In intracellular trypomastigotes, MAB 4B5 also displayed a punctate pattern near the flagellar pocket.  相似文献
