Receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase β (RPTPβ) is expressed as soluble and receptor forms with common extracellular regions consisting of a carbonic anhydrase domain (C), a fibronectin type III repeat (F), and a unique region called S. We showed previously that a recombinant Fc fusion protein with the C domain (βC) binds to contactin and supports neuronal adhesion and neurite growth. As a substrate, βCFS was less effective in supporting cell adhesion, but it was a more effective promoter of neurite outgrowth than βCF. βS had no effect by itself, but it potentiated neurite growth when mixed with βCF. Neurite outgrowth induced by βCFS was inhibited by antibodies against Nr-CAM and contactin, and these cell adhesion molecules formed a complex that bound βCFS. NIH3T3 cells transfected to express βCFS on their surfaces induced neuronal differentiation in culture. These results suggest that binding of glial RPTPβ to the contactin/Nr-CAM complex is important for neurite growth and neuronal differentiation. 相似文献

Narrative transportation is described as a state of detachment that arises when one becomes immersed in the narrative of a story. Participants viewed either an intact version of an engaging 20 min film, “Bang You’re Dead!,” (1961) by Alfred Hitchcock (contiguous condition), or a version of the same film with scenes presented out of order (noncontiguous condition). In this latter condition, the individual scenes were intact but were presented out of chronological order. Participants were told a cover story that we were interested in the amount of gun violence depicted in films. Both groups were given the goal to remember to lift their hand every time they heard the word “gun” spoken during the film. Results revealed that participants were significantly less likely to remember to execute their goal in the contiguous condition, presumably because this narrative transported viewers’ attention and thereby “hijacked” processing resources away from internal goals. 相似文献

Physical and biological features of polyoma virus mutants able to infect embryonal carcinoma cell lines 总被引:21,自引:6,他引:15
Three new polyoma mutants were selected for their ability to grow on the embryonal carcinoma cell line F9. These mutants share in common an insertion of two nucleotides, a thymine and an adenine, in the noncoding region located on the late side of the origin of replication. We have found that these insertions exist in all of the other polyoma virus mutants able to grow on F9 cells (Fujimura et al., Cell 23:809-814, 1981; Katinka et al., Nature (London) 290:720-722, 1981; K. Sekikawa and A. J. Levine, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 78:1100-1104, 1981). The region containing these insertions could be folded into a stable secondary structure which included a guanine plus cytosine (G + C)-rich stem. The adenine and thymine were inserted in such a way that they maintained the palindrome in the G + C-rich stem and were complementary in the putative secondary structure that we present here. Another class of polyoma virus mutants selected on a multipotential carcinoma cell line (PCC4-Aza) were characterized by a more complex rearrangement (deletion and duplication) which occurred in the same region. This arrangement preserved the G + C-rich palindrome and also yielded a sequence which still allowed the folding of another type of stable secondary structure. Synaptosomal proteins isolated from rat cerebral cortex were phosphorylated endogeneously in the presence of [γ-32P]ATP. The phosphorylated proteins were found to be membrane bound by differential and density gradient centrifugation. In contrast to the phosphorylation of all synaptosomal proteins, phosphorylation of one protein (C), 41 000–43 000 daltons, was inhibited by Mg2+ and stimulated by Ca2+. In addition, the ionophores X537A and A23187, as well as papaverine, selectively enhanced phosphorylation of protein C without affecting phosphorylation of the other proteins. Cyclic AMP did not influence the phosphorylation of protein C but markedly affected the phosphorylation of other synaptosomal proteins. It appears that the phosphorylation of protein C is stimulated by agents which trigger the release of neurotransmitters (Ca2+, X537A, A23187 and papaverine), and is inhibited by Mg2+, which inhibits release. It is proposed that the phosphorylation of protein C is related to membranal events underlying the release of neurotransmitters. 相似文献

Means to increase the reproductive capacity of Crocus sativus L., in vitro, are described. Cytokinins and auxin were found to be essential for development of bud explants. Ethylene and ethaphon pretreatments inhibited leaf development but induced corm production.
