Kurabayashi , Masataka , Harlan Lewis , and Peter H. Raven . (U. California, Los Angeles.) A comparative study of mitosis in the Onagraceae. Amer. Jour. Bot. 49(9): 1003–1026. Illus. 1962. —Mitotic cycles of 46 species of Onagraceae, representing 15 genera and all of the tribes, have been examined and were found to fall into 3 modally distinct groups: (1) the tribes Fuchsieae, Lopezieae, and Circaeae; (2) the Epilobieae and Jussiaeae; (3) the Onagreae and Hauyeae. All species characterized by translocation systems, whether complex heterozygotes or variable frequencies of individual translocations, belong to group 3. Group 1 has no definite chromocenters during interphase and the chromosomes contract more or less evenly along a gradient during prophase. Groups 2 and 3 have definite chromocenters during interphase and the chromosomes become differentiated at early prophase into dense proximal and diffuse distal regions; contraction of the chromosomes does not seem to follow a gradient. In group 2, the chromosomes within a genome are much more heterogeneous in size and in the relative proportions of the differentiated segments than in group 3. Only in species belonging to group 3 are all or most of the chromosomes metacentric, subequal in size, and uniformly differentiated. The differences between the groups and within group 3 are discussed in relation to the development of translocation systems. Chromosome numbers of 9 taxa are reported for the first time.  相似文献

A κ-casein-like fraction was prepared from human whole casein by gel filtration with Sephadex G-150 and Biogel A-150 m. The fraction was calcium-insensitive and its solution became turbid by rennin. In polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic (PAE) analysis, the fraction gave 11~12 bands after reduction with 2-mercaptoethanol. It appeared to exist as a disulfide- bound complex of many components. The occurrence of human para-IC-caseins from the fraction after rennin treatment was confirmed by PAE. When the reduced, alkylated human κ-casein-like fraction was chromatographed by DEAE-cellulose, several fractions were obtained. After rennin treatment, they formed either a para-SCM-κ-casein band moving toward the cathode on PAE pattern or the one which moved toward the anode. These results suggest that two para-κ-caseins were formed from human whole casein or human κ-casein-like fraction by the action of rennin.  相似文献

Mother-infant vocal interactions play a crucial role in the development of human language. However, comparatively little is known about the maternal role during vocal development in nonhuman primates. Here, we report the first evidence of mother-daughter vocal interactions contributing to vocal development in gibbons, a singing and monogamous ape species. Gibbons are well known for their species-specific duets sung between mates, yet little is known about the role of intergenerational duets in gibbon song development. We observed singing interactions between free-ranging mothers and their sub-adult daughters prior to emigration. Daughters sang simultaneously with their mothers at different rates. First, we observed significant acoustic variation between daughters. Co-singing rates between mother and daughter were negatively correlated with the temporal precision of the song’s synchronization. In addition, songs of daughters who co-sang less with their mothers were acoustically more similar to the maternal song than any other adult female’s song. All variables have been reported to be influenced by social relationships of pairs. Therefore those correlations would be mediated by mother-daughter social relationship, which would be modifiable in daughter’s development. Here we hypothesized that daughters who co-sing less often, well-synchronize, and converge acoustically with the maternal acoustic pattern would be at a more advanced stage of social independence in sub-adult females prior to emigration. Second, we observed acoustic matching between mothers and daughters when co-singing, suggesting short-term vocal flexibility. Third, we found that mothers adjusted songs to a more stereotyped pattern when co-singing than when singing alone. This vocal adjustment was stronger for mothers with daughters who co-sang less. These results indicate the presence of socially mediated vocal flexibility in gibbon sub-adults and adults, and that mother-daughter co-singing interactions may enhance vocal development. More comparative work, notably longitudinal and experimental, is now needed to clarify maternal roles during song development.  相似文献

The GABA transporter (GAT) group is one of the major subgroups in the solute career 6 (SLC6) family of transmembrane proteins. The GAT group, which has been well studied in mammals, has 6 known members, i.e., a taurine transporter (TAUT), four GABA transporters (GAT-1, -2, -3, - 4), and a creatine transporter (CT1), which have important roles in maintaining physiological homeostasis. However, the GAT group has not been extensively investigated in invertebrates; only TAUT has been reported in marine invertebrates such as bivalves and krills, and GAT-1 has been reported in several insect species and nematodes. Thus, it is unknown how transporters in the GAT group arose during the course of animal evolution. In this study, we cloned GAT-1 cDNAs from the deep-sea mussel, Bathymodiolus septemdierum, and the Antarctic krill, Euphausia superba, whose TAUT cDNA has already been cloned. To understand the evolutionary history of the GAT group, we conducted phylogenetic and synteny analyses on the GAT group transporters of vertebrates and invertebrates. Our findings suggest that transporters of the GAT group evolved through the following processes. First, GAT-1 and CT1 arose by tandem duplication of an ancestral transporter gene before the divergence of Deuterostomia and Protostomia; next, the TAUT gene arose and GAT-3 was formed by the tandem duplication of the TAUT gene; and finally, GAT-2 and GAT-4 evolved from a GAT-3 gene by chromosomal duplication in the ancestral vertebrates. Based on synteny and phylogenetic evidence, the present naming of the GAT group members does not accurately reflect the evolutionary relationships.  相似文献

In order to understand the effect of polar head group modification on the thermotropic and barotropic phase behavior of phospholipid bilayer membranes, the phase transitions of dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DPPE), dipalmitoylphosphatidyl-N-methylethanolamine (DPMePE), dipalmitoylphosphatidyl-N,N-dimethylethanolamine (DPMe2PE) and dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) bilayer membranes were observed by differential scanning calorimetry and high-pressure optical methods. The temperatures of the so-called main transition from the gel (Lβ) or ripple gel (Pβ′) phase to the liquid crystalline (Lα) phase were almost linearly elevated by applying pressure. The slope of the temperature-pressure boundary, dT/dp, was in the range of 0.220-0.264 K MPa−1 depending on the number of methyl groups in the head group of lipids. The main-transition temperatures of N-methylated DPPEs decreased with increasing size of head group by stepwise N-methylation. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in thermodynamic quantities of the main transition between the phospholipids. With respect to the transition from the subgel (Lc) phase to the lamellar gel (Lβ or Lβ′) phase, the transition temperatures were also elevated by applying pressure. In the case of DPPE bilayer the Lc/Lβ transition appeared at a pressure higher than 21.8 MPa. At a pressure below 21.8 MPa the Lc/Lα transition was observed at a temperature higher than the main-transition temperature. The main (Lβ/Lα) transition can be recognized as the transformation between metastable phases in the range from ambient pressure to 21.8 MPa. Polymorphism in the gel phase is characteristic of DPPC bilayer membrane unlike other lipid bilayers used in this study: the Lβ′, Pβ′ and pressure-induced interdigitated gel (LβI) phases were observed only in the DPPC bilayer. Regarding the bilayers of DPPE, DPMePE and DPMe2PE, the interdigitation of acyl chain did not appear even at pressures as high as 200 MPa.  相似文献

The bilayer phase transitions of three kinds of phospholipids, dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC), distearoylphosphatidylcholine (DSPC) and dihexadecylphosphatidylcholine (DHPC), in deuterium oxide (D2O) and hydrogen oxide (H2O) were observed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) under ambient pressure and light-transmittance measurements under high pressure. The DSC measurements showed that the substitution of H2O by D2O affected the pretransition temperatures and the main-transition enthalpies of all PC bilayers. The temperature-pressure phase diagrams for these PC bilayer membranes in both solvents were constructed by use of the data of light-transmittance measurements. Regarding the main transition of all PC bilayer membranes, there was no appreciable difference between the transition temperatures in D2O and H2O under high pressure. On the other hand, the phase transitions among the gel phases including the pretransition were significantly affected by the solvent substitution. The thermodynamic quantities of phase transitions for the PC bilayer membranes were evaluated and the differences in thermodynamic properties by the water substitution were considered from the difference of interfacial-free energy per molecule in the bilayer in both solvents. It was proved that the substitution of H2O by D2O causes shrinkage of the molecular area of phospholipid at bilayer interface due to the difference in bond strength between deuterium and hydrogen bonds and produces the great influence on the bilayer phase with the smaller area. Further, the induction of bilayer interdigitation in D2O turned out to need higher pressures than in H2O.  相似文献
