Electron Energy Loss and One- and Two-Photon Excited SERS Probing of “Hot” Plasmonic Silver Nanoaggregates

We report electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and one- and two-photon excited surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and hyper Raman studies on plasmonic silver nanoaggregates. By comparison with computations, EELS imaging reveals an inverse relationship between local field intensity in an optical experiment and electron energy loss intensity at energies corresponding to excitation wavelengths used for optical probing. This inverse relation exists independent on specific nanoaggregate geometries and is mainly controlled by the gap size between the particles forming the aggregate. The ratio between two- and one-photon excited SERS measured at different excitation wavelengths provides information about local fields in the hottest spots and their dependence on the photon energy. Our data verify experimentally the predicted increase of local optical fields in the hot spots with increasing wave lengths. The reported findings show new experimental ways to characterize local fields of plasmonic nanostructures. This is of particular importance for complex structures which are not easily approachable by computations.     

Three dimensional socket preservation: a technique for soft tissue augmentation along with socket grafting

Background

A cursory review of the current socket preservation literatures well depicts the necessity of further esthetic considerations through the corrective procedures of the alveolar ridge upon and post extraction. A new technique has been described here is a rotational pedicle combined epithelialized and connective tissue graft (RPC graft) adjunct with immediate guided tissue regeneration (GBR) procedure.

Results

We reviewed this technique through a case report and discuss it??s benefit in compare to other socket preservation procedures.

Conclusion

The main advantages of RPC graft would be summarized as follows: stable primary closure during bone remodeling, saving or crating sufficient vestibular depth, making adequate keratinized gingiva on the buccal surface, and being esthetically pleasant.     

Association of Fc gamma-receptor genes polymorphisms with chronic periodontitis and Peri-Implantitis

This study was conducted on 87 patients with chronic periodontitis (CP), 50 patients with peri-implantitis and 90 periodontally healthy individuals referring to the Department of Periodontics for evaluating the association between Fc gamma-receptor genes polymorphisms with CP and peri-implantitis. After obtaining consent, venous blood samples (5cc) were obtained from patients and DNA was extracted using Miller's salting-out method. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism and tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system-PCR methods were used to assess the polymorphisms of FcγRs IIa, IIIa, and IIIb genes. Analyzing showed a significant association between specific genotypes with increasing CP and peri-implantitis risks in codominant and dominant models. For FcγR IIIa, analyzing revealed a significant association between specific genotypes with increasing CP and peri-implantitis risks in codominant, dominant, and recessive models. For FcγR IIIb, we also detected a significant association between specific genotypes with increasing CP and peri-implantitis risks in codominant, dominant, and recessive models ( P < 0.05). According to the results of this study, the FCGRIIa (rs1801274), FCGRIIIa (rs396991), and FCGRIIIb (rs1050501) polymorphisms were significantly associated with CP and peri-implantitis and may have a role in the pathogenesis of these diseases.
