Summary The two high affinity calcium binding sites of the cardiac (Ca2+ + Mg2+)-ATPase have been identified with the use of Eu3+. Eu3+ competes for the two high affinity calcium sites on the enzyme. With the use of laser-pulsed fluorescent spectroscopy, the environment of the two sites appear to be heterogeneous and contain different numbers of H2O molecules coordinated to the ion. The ion appears to be occluded even further in the presence of ATP. Using non-radiative energy transfer studies, we were able to estimate the distance between the two Ca2+ sites to be between 9.4 to 10.2 A in the presence of ATP. Finally, from the assumption that the calcium site must contain four carboxylic side chains to provide the 6–8 ligands needed to coordinate calcium, and based on our recently published data, we predict the peptidic backbone of the two sites. 相似文献

The X and Y chromosomes of the musk shrew are the two largest in the complement and they regularly form a single chiasma during meiosis. This chiasma is located in the short arms of the X and Y, both of which show partial C-banding at meiosis. The in vitro incorporation of 5-bromodeoxyuridine/tritiated thymidine during late S reveals that the non-C-band region of the Y finishes replication later than the C-band positive heterochromatin. During meiosis, the sex bivalent opens out early in pachytene to reveal a single chiasma which persists until late metaphase-I. In surface-spread, silver-stained meiocytes, the sex bivalent morphology changes from a phase of extensive pairing to one which includes a visible chiasma through a brief diffuse stage. Observations on C-banded meiocytes show a shift in the sex pair from a C-band positive to a negative state as compared to their corresponding somatic pattern. Comparable changes are also observed in the sex bivalents of other mammals which undergo a chiasmatic exchange. This suggests that in addition to pairing homology, an alteration in the chromatin configuration may be necessary for crossing over to occur between the sex chromosomes. 相似文献

Two buffaloes with full-term pregnancy suffered from dystocia because the cervix did not dilate in spite of strong labour pains and other parturition signs shown by each animal. The urinary bladder, cervix, vagina and surrounding area were very firm. Dead, emphysemated fetuses were removed by caesarean in each case and anuria was also noticed. One buffalo died and the other was euthanised after surgery because it did not improve. The post-mortem examinations revealed transitional cell carcinoma of urinary bladder infiltrating the cervix, vagina and surrounding area in each case. 相似文献

Summary Gibberellins A3, A4+7 and A13 and (–)-kaurene delay floral-bud initiation and flowering and decrease the number of floral-buds and flowers in Impatiens balsamina under 4-hr photoperiods. They do not have any marked effect under 8-hr photoperiods. Under 16- and 24-hr photoperiods they hasten floral-bud initiation and flowering and increase the number of flowers, the effect being greater under 16- than under 24-hr days and the order of effectiveness being GA4+7>GA3>GA13>(–)-kaurene.While GA3 and GA4+7 promote extension growth, the effect being greater with the former, GA13 and (–)-kaurene do not promote it under any photoperiod. The magnitude of stem elongation in different treatments prior to floral-bud initiation increases from 4- to 8-hr photoperiods but decreases under 16- and 24-hr periods, the effect being more under 24-hr although both 16-and 24-hr photoperiods are noninductive for flowering. 相似文献

Summary In the qualitative short-day plant Impatiens balsamina, gibberellic acid (GA3) not only promoted the formation of floral buds in response to suboptimal photoinductive conditions and reduced the number of SD cycles that are required for their development into flowers, but also caused initiation of floral buds under non-inductive photoperiods. In plants treated with repeated applications of GA3, the floral buds developed into flowers irrespective of whether the apex was left intact or was removed. The karyotype of male and female Hemilepistus elongatus was investigated by means of C-banding. The diploid chromosome number in both sexes is 2n = 50. By scrutinizing general morphology and localization of the constitutive heterochromatin, no heteromorphic sex chromosomes were found. All chromosome pairs in males are well paired during diakinesis. The garnet-type phase Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) attracts significant attention as an oxide solid electrolyte to enable safe and robust solid-state batteries (SSBs) with potentially high energy density. However, while significant progress has been made in demonstrating compatibility with Li metal, integrating LLZO into composite cathodes remains a challenge. The current perspective focuses on the critical issues that need to be addressed to achieve the ultimate goal of an all-solid-state LLZO-based battery that delivers safety, durability, and pack-level performance characteristics that are unobtainable with state-of-the-art Li-ion batteries. This perspective complements existing reviews of solid/solid interfaces with more emphasis on understanding numerous homo- and heteroionic interfaces in a pure oxide-based SSB and the various phenomena that accompany the evolution of the chemical, electrochemical, structural, morphological, and mechanical properties of those interfaces during processing and operation. Finally, the insights gained from a comprehensive literature survey of LLZO–cathode interfaces are used to guide efforts for the development of LLZO-based SSBs. 相似文献

The mechanism of cytoplasmic male sterility was investigated in maize by isolating mitochondria from seedlings and various anther stages and analyzing cytochrome oxidase and succinic dehydrogenase biochemically and electrophoretically. Sterile anthers exhibited a lack of biochemical activity and fewer isozymatic bands for cytochrome oxidase. No apparent differences were detected biochemically or electrophoretically between fertile and sterile anthers for succinate dehydrogenase. 相似文献
