The advent of publishing anonymized call detail records opens the door for temporal and spatial human dynamics studies. Such studies, besides being useful for creating universal models for mobility patterns, could be also used for creating new socio-economic proxy indicators that will not rely only on the local or state institutions. In this paper, from the frequency of calls at different times of the day, in different small regional units (sub-prefectures) in Côte d''Ivoire, we infer users'' home and work sub-prefectures. This division of users enables us to analyze different mobility and calling patterns for the different regions. We then compare how those patterns correlate to the data from other sources, such as: news for particular events in the given period, census data, economic activity, poverty index, power plants and energy grid data. Our results show high correlation in many of the cases revealing the diversity of socio-economic insights that can be inferred using only mobile phone call data. The methods and the results may be particularly relevant to policy-makers engaged in poverty reduction initiatives as they can provide an affordable tool in the context of resource-constrained developing economies, such as Côte d''Ivoire''s.  相似文献

A review of 6 years of hospitalization charts from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) revealed that congenital cataracts (CC) accounted for 2.39% of all cataract in-patient cases and that the age at surgery was decreasing before the establishment of the Childhood Cataract Program of the Chinese Ministry of Health (CCPMOH) in December 2010. We aimed to investigate data from the 4 years (January 2011 to December 2014) following the establishment of the CCPMOH, compared, and combined with data from the previous study period (January 2005 to December 2010) to generate a 10-year overview of the hospital-based prevalence and treatment of CC. In the 4-year period after CCPMOH establishment, the prevalence of CC was 2.01% in all hospitalizations, and was 2.78% in all cataract in-patients. Most of the eligible CC in-patients (71%) lived in south China. The ratio of boys to girls was 1.42:1. Nearly 2/3 of the patients underwent cataract extraction with primary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation at a mean age of 78.40±51.45 months, and cataract extraction surgeries without IOL implantation were performed in the remaining 1/3 of patients at a mean age of 10.03±15.92 months. After CCPMOH establishment, an increased incidence of CC was revealed, and the CC in-patients were younger than the patients in the previous period. The 10-year overview (2421 CC in-patients from 206630 hospitalizations) revealed upward trends in both the number and the prevalence of CC and a further reduction in age at surgery. In conclusion, the data from 4-year period after CCPMOH establishment and the 10-year overview showed upward trends in the hospital-based prevalence of CC cases and a further reduction in age at surgery, likely reflecting the effects of the CCPMOH establishment and providing useful information for further CC studies and a valuable foundation for the prevention and treatment of this cause of childhood blindness.  相似文献

Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), a main component of safflor yellow, has been demonstrated to prevent steroid-induced avascular necrosis of femoral head by inhibiting primary bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells adipogenic differentiation induced by steroid. In this study, we investigate the effect of HSYA on the proliferation and adipogenesis of mouse 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. The effects of HSYA on proliferation and differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells and its possible mechanism were studied by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) 2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide spectrophotometry, Oil Red O staining, intracellular triglyceride assays, real-time quantitative RT-PCR, transient transfection and dual luciferase reporter gene methods. HSYA inhibited the proliferation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and cell viability greatly decreased in a dose and time dependent manner. HSYA (1 mg/l) notably reduced the amount of intracellular lipid and triglyceride content in adipocytes by 21.3 % (2.13 ± 0.36 vs 2.71 ± 0.40, P < 0.01) and 22.6 % (1.33 ± 0.07 vs 1.72 ± 0.07, P < 0.01) on days 8 following the differentiation, respectively. HSYA (1 mg/l) significantly increased hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) mRNA expression and promoter activities by 2.4- and 1.55-fold, respectively (P < 0.01), in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes. HSYA inhibits the proliferation and adipogenesis of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. The inhibitory action of HYSA on adipogenesis may be due to the promotion of lipolytic-specific enzyme HSL expression by increasing HSL promoter activity.  相似文献

An antisense strategy has been used to identify genes important for the maintenance of transformation of MDCC-MSB1 (MSB1) Marek's disease virus-transformed lymphoblastoid cells. Oligodeoxynucleotides antisense to the predicted translation initiation regions of ICP4 and pp38 mRNAs inhibited proliferation of MSB1 cells but not MDCC-CU91 (CU91) reticuloendotheliosis virus-transformed cells. Control oligodeoxynucleotides having the same base composition but a different sequence did not inhibit MSB1 cell proliferation. In addition, ICP4 and pp38 antisense oligodeoxynucleotides resulted in 77- and 100-fold reductions in colony formation by MSB1 cells in soft agar, respectively. To extend and corroborate these results, a novel system based on efficiently regulated expression of eukaryotic genes by a chimeric mammalian transactivator, LAP267 (S. B. Baim, M. A. Labow, A. J. Levine, and T. Shenk, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 88:5072-5076, 1991), was used. MSB1-derived stably transfected cell lines in which RNA antisense to Marek's disease virus ICP4, pp38, or meq could be induced by treatment of the cells with isopropyl-beta-D-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG) were constructed. Control cell lines in which expression of ICP4 sense or pUC19 sequences could be induced by IPTG were also constructed. Induction of the cell lines indicated that ICP4 antisense RNA, but not ICP4 sense RNA or pUC19 RNA, inhibited proliferation of MSB1 cells. Induction of ICP4, meq, or pp38 antisense RNAs, but not ICP4 sense or pUC19 RNAs, had a dramatic effect on relative colony formation by MSB1 cells in soft agar. These results indicate that ICP4, pp38, and Meq are all involved in the maintenance of transformation of MSB1 cells.  相似文献
