The functional role of IGFBP5 in breast cancer is complicated. Experimental and
bioinformatics studies have shown that IGFBP5 is targeted by miR-140-5p and miR-193b,
although this has not yet been proven in clinical samples. The aim of this study was
to evaluate the expression of miR-140-5p and miR-193b in breast cancer and adjacent
normal tissue and assess its correlation with IGFBP5 and the clinicopathological
characteristics of the tumors. IGFBP5 protein expression was analyzed
immunohistochemically and IGFBP5, miR-140 and miR-193b mRNA expression levels were
analyzed with real-time RT-PCR. Tumor tissue had higher miR-140-5p expression than
adjacent normal tissue (p = 0.015). Samples with no immunohistochemical staining for
IGFBP5 showed increased miR-140-5p expression (p = 0.009). miR-140-5p expression was
elevated in invasive ductal carcinomas (p = 0.002), whereas basal-like tumors had
decreased expression of miR-140-5p compared to other tumors (p = 0.008). Lymph
node-positive samples showed an approximately 13-fold increase in miR-140-5p
expression compared to lymph node-negative tissue (p = 0.049). These findings suggest
that miR-140-5p, but not miR-193b, could be an important determinant of IGFBP5
expression and clinical phenotype in breast cancer patients. Further studies are
needed to clarify the expressional regulation of IGFBP5 by miR-140-5p. 相似文献
Prions are self-perpetuating conformational variants of particular proteins. In yeast, prions cause heritable phenotypic traits. Most known yeast prions contain a glutamine (Q)/asparagine (N)-rich region in their prion domains. [PSI+], the prion form of Sup35, appears de novo at dramatically enhanced rates following transient overproduction of Sup35 in the presence of [PIN+], the prion form of Rnq1. Here, we establish the temporal de novo appearance of Sup35 aggregates during such overexpression in relation to other cellular proteins. Fluorescently-labeled Sup35 initially forms one or a few dots when overexpressed in [PIN+] cells. One of the dots is perivacuolar, colocalizes with the aggregated Rnq1 dot and grows into peripheral rings/lines, some of which also colocalize with Rnq1. Sup35 dots that are not near the vacuole do not always colocalize with Rnq1 and disappear by the time rings start to grow. Bimolecular fluorescence complementation failed to detect any interaction between Sup35-VN and Rnq1-VC in [PSI+][PIN+] cells. In contrast, all Sup35 aggregates, whether newly induced or in established [PSI+], completely colocalize with the molecular chaperones Hsp104, Sis1, Ssa1 and eukaryotic release factor Sup45. In the absence of [PIN+], overexpressed aggregating proteins such as the Q/N-rich Pin4C or the non-Q/N-rich Mod5 can also promote the de novo appearance of [PSI+]. Similar to Rnq1, overexpressed Pin4C transiently colocalizes with newly appearing Sup35 aggregates. However, no interaction was detected between Mod5 and Sup35 during [PSI+] induction in the absence of [PIN+]. While the colocalization of Sup35 and aggregates of Rnq1 or Pin4C are consistent with the model that the heterologous aggregates cross-seed the de novo appearance of [PSI+], the lack of interaction between Mod5 and Sup35 leaves open the possibility of other mechanisms. We aimed to show the effect of osteoporosis on sleep quality in 59 postmenopausal women. The participants’ bone-mineral density levels were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). According to their DEXA results, participants were divided into two groups as osteoporotics and controls. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep quality. Fourteen osteoporotic women (43.8%) and four controls (14.8%) were “poor” sleepers (p < 0.05). Postmeno-pausal women with osteoporosis scored greater on the “sleep latency” and “sleep duration” components of PSQI than controls. According to the findings of our study, osteoporosis is a risk factor for poor sleep quality in postmenopausal women.

experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of foliar phosphorus (P) on morphological, gas exchange, biochemical traits, and phosphorus use efficiency (PUE) of maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids grown under normal as well as water
deficit situations at the Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan in 2014. Two different
treatments (control and P @ 8 kg ha−1
) and four hybrids (Hycorn, 31P41, 65625, and 32B33) of maize were tested by
using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Results showed that the water stress caused
a remarkable decline in total soluble protein (9.7%), photosynthetic rate (9.4%) and transpiration rate (13.4%), stomatal
conductance (10.2%), and internal CO2 rate (20.4%) comparative to well-watered control. An increase of 37.1%, 36.8%,
and 24.5% were recorded for proline, total soluble sugar, and total free amino acid, respectively. However, foliar P
application minimized the negative impact of drought by improving plant growth, physio-biochemical attributes,
and PUE in maize plants under water stress conditions. Among the hybrids tested, the hybrid 6525 performed better
both under stress and non-stress conditions. These outcomes confirmed that the exogenous application of P improved
drought stress tolerance by modulating growth, physio-biochemical attributes, and PUE of maize hybrids. 相似文献
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common condition that impacts many people worldwide and involves weight-bearing joints, resulting in chronic pain. In this study, we aimed to compare the effectiveness of inpatient and outpatient physical therapy modalities and spa combination treatments on pain and functional status in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Seventy-four patients diagnosed with primary knee osteoarthritis were included in this study. The patients were randomized into two groups, inpatient (n?=?37) and outpatient (n?=?37) physical therapy. All patients received a physical therapy program (superficial heater + deep heater + transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) for 2 weeks and spa therapy. All cases were evaluated clinically, laboratory, and radiographically. In order to evaluate pain and functional status, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index (WOMAC), and Timed Up and Go (TUG) test were used before and after treatment. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the TUG test and WOMAC scores (p?>?0.05). However, a significant difference was found in VAS scores in favor of the outpatient group (p?<?0.05). As a result, although there was a significant improvement in pain scores in the outpatient group, multicenter studies with larger patient groups may provide more evidence.
The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of a 20 l lab scale anaerobic hybrid reactor (AHR) combining sludge blanket in the lower part and filter in the upper part under varying organic loading rates (OLRs) in order to study biodegradation of olive mill effluent (OME). For this purpose, some parameters, such as total phenols, effluent chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended solids (SS), volatile fatty acids (VFAs), and pH in the influent and effluent, and removal efficiencies for those parameters (except pH) were continuously monitored throughout the experimental period of 477 days. Eleven different organic loadings between 0.45 and 32 kg COD m−3 day−1 were imposed by either varying influent COD or hydraulic retention time (HRT). The results demonstrated that the AHR reactor could tolerate high influent COD concentrations. Removal efficiencies for the studied pollution parameters were found to be as follows: COD, 50–94%; total phenol, 39–80%; color, 0–54%; and suspended solids, 19–87%. The levels of VFAs in the effluent, which was principally acetate, butyrate, iso-butyrate, and propionate, varied between 10 and 2005 mg l−1 depending upon OLRs. A COD removal efficiency of 90% could be achieved as long as OLR is kept at a level of less than 10 kg COD m−3 day−1. However, a secondary treatment unit for polishing purposes is necessary to comply with receiving media discharge standards. 相似文献
