The locomotor activity rhythm of the isopod, Porcellio olivieri, was investigated in Gannouch site in the south of Tunisia. The rhythm was monitored under constant temperature in individual animals in winter under two simultaneous regimens: the light–dark (LD) cycle and the continuous darkness (DD). Results revealed that whatever regimens, actograms, and mean activity curves showed that specimens of P. olivieri concentrated their activity during the experimental and subjective night. The species exhibited a locomotor rhythm period significantly shorter under LD (T = 23h13 ± 0h44) than DD (τ = 24h28 ± 0h58). However, the locomotor activity rhythm was less stable and the individuals were significantly more active under entraining conditions than constant darkness. The activity pattern of this species will be discussed as an adaptative strategy to respond to environmental conditions.  相似文献

Acetobacter species are members of the α-subclass of Proteobacteria, which harbors a large number of bacteria recalcitrant to cultivation. Strain AB0220 was isolated from a superficial acetification system and preserved for 9 years by short and long time methods. Under short time preservation it was estimated that 540.54 number of generations occurred, whereas in long time preservation conditions the number of generations was 17.40. Ethanol oxidation to acetic acid was stable and confirmed, as well as acetate assimilation during long time preservation. Cultivability checks showed persistence of phenotypic traits (growth on ethanol and methanol, growth on different carbon sources and cellulose production) over the extended preservation time. 16S rRNA gene sequences analysis showed 100 % of similarity with A. pasteurianus (Accession number GQ240636). Stability of subcultures related to the culture age and subcultures frequency, tested by ERIC/PCR, confirmed the suitability of long term preservation at least over a period of 9 years.  相似文献

SPB1 is a Bacillus subtilis strain producing a lipopeptide biosurfactant. The insecticidal activity of this biosurfactant was evaluated against the Egyptian cotton leaf worm (Spodoptera littoralis). It displayed toxicity with an LC(50) of 251 ng/cm(2). The histopathological changes occurred in the larval midgut of S. littoralis treated with B. subtilis SPB1 biosurfactant were vesicle formation in the apical region, cellular vacuolization and destruction of epithelial cells and their boundaries. Ligand-blotting experiments with S. littoralis brush border membrane vesicles showed binding of SPB1 biosurfactant to a protein of 45 kDa corresponding to its putative receptor. The latter differs in molecular size from those recognized by Bacillus thuringiensis Vip3A and Cry1C toxins, commonly known by their activity against S. littoralis. This result wires the application of B. subtilis biosurfactant for effective control of S. littoralis larvae, particularly in the cases where S. littoralis will develop resistance against B. thuringiensis toxins.  相似文献

Freshly collected samples of Tylos europaeus from Korba beach (northeast of Tunisia) were housed in an environmental cabinet at controlled temperature (18°C?±?.5°C) and photoperiod. Locomotor activity was recorded under two photoperiodic regimens by infrared actography every 20?min by multichannel data loggers. One regimen simulated the natural light-dark cycle on the day of collection, whereas the second imposed a state of continuous darkness on all individuals. Under entraining conditions, the animals displayed rhythmic activity, in phase with the period of darkness, whereas in continuous darkness these isopods exhibited a strong endogenous rhythm with circadian and semidiurnal components at mean periods of τ (h:min)?=?25:09?±?01:02?h and τ?=?12:32?±?00:26?h, respectively. Under free-running conditions, this endogenous rhythm showed significant intraspecific variability.  相似文献

Antimicrobial activity of methanolic extracts obtained from the aerial parts of Evax pygmaea was tested against five bacteria and two strains of phytopathogenic fungi using the agar diffusion and broth microdilution methods. Antioxidant properties were evaluated through the ability of the different fractions to scavenge the stable ABTS (2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) and DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radicals. The TEAC (Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity) and IC50 values of the fractions were calculated and compared. The experimental data indicated that all fractions exhibit moderate to appreciable antibacterial activities against all Gram-positive cocci and Gram-negative rods except Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but no antifungal activity was observed. Ethyl acetate and methanol fractions were found to cause significant free radical-scavenging effects in both assays. These results may suggest that E. pygmaea could be used as a natural preservative ingredient in the food and/or pharmaceutical industries.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Metastases to the breast are rare and can be missed without knowledge of the clinical history. We report an unusual breast metastasis originating in an olfactory neuroblastoma. CASE: A breast metastasis from esthesioneuroblastoma occurred in a 20-year-old woman 2 years after the onset of the disease. The aspirates were hypercellular and composed of cellular aggregates and single cells with a monomorphic appearance. The cytoplasm was scanty and inconspicuous. The nucleus was large, with granular, hyperchromatic chromatin. Mitoses and apoptotic bodies were numerous. Because we were unaware of the past history at the time of the cytologic analysis, a definitive diagnosis was made only after pathologic study. CONCLUSION: Esthesioneuroblastoma metastatic to the breast must be considered in the differential diagnosis of breast metastases. Fine needle aspiration, in conjunction with clinical information, can be effective in the diagnosis of esthesioneuroblastoma metastatic to the breast.  相似文献

In this work, we investigate the locomotor behaviour of Talitrus saltator (Montagu 1808) for a population collected from the supralittoral zone of Korba beach. The locomotor activity rhythm was recorded for adult individuals during 10 summer days under continuous light with four different luminous intensities: 5 lux (N = 30), 35 lux (N = 30), 75 lux (N = 30) and 140 lux (N = 15). By the end of the experiments, 100% of the considered individuals were found alive under light intensities of 35 and 140 lux, whereas only 86 and 90% were found alive under light intensity of 5 and 75 lux, respectively. Furthermore, whatever the imposed luminous intensity is, actograms showed a clear drift to the right lengthening day after day the circadian period. Moreover, we found that by raising the light intensity, the drift becomes increasingly important. Actograms as well as activity curves, results showed that the locomotor activity profiles are mainly unimodal and their percentage increases when increasing the light intensity. Furthermore, periodogram analysis highlighted the presence of ultradian and circadian components where the longest periods were observed with the highest luminous intensity. In addition, the locomotor activity rhythm was statistically more defined and individuals of Talitrus saltator were significantly more active under the lowest luminous intensity.  相似文献

Acetic acid bacteria (AAB) are obligately aerobic bacteria within the family Acetobacteraceae, widespread in sugary, acidic and alcoholic niches. They are known for their ability to partially oxidise a variety of carbohydrates and to release the corresponding metabolites (aldehydes, ketones and organic acids) into the media. Since a long time they are used to perform specific oxidation reactions through processes called “oxidative fermentations”, especially in vinegar production. In the last decades physiology of AAB have been widely studied because of their role in food production, where they act as beneficial or spoiling organisms, and in biotechnological industry, where their oxidation machinery is exploited to produce a number of compounds such as l-ascorbic acid, dihydroxyacetone, gluconic acid and cellulose. The present review aims to provide an overview of AAB physiology focusing carbon sources oxidation and main products of their metabolism.  相似文献
