The oligomer molecular weight of horse spleen apoferritin was determined by sedimentation-equilibrium techniques and a value of 443000 found. It is concluded that the apoferritin molecule consists of 24 subunits. At concentrations as low as 0.01mum there is no evidence of subunit dissociation. 相似文献

On 11 May 1985 the main stand of Bradford City Football Club caught fire. Within four minutes the stand was alight from end to end. Fifty three people were burnt to death and about 250 injured; 83 required admission to hospital, and 55 of these were treated by primary excision of their burns and skin grafting. In such disasters the help of staff from other hospitals and areas is essential. Patients should be assessed to see whether they have burns that will ultimately be fatal; if they have they should not be sent to regional burns units, where they would take up beds that could be used for patients with treatable burns. All districts should ensure that their plans for accidents in which burns injuries predominate are adequate. 相似文献

The properties of two differentiation antigens, rsa 4.2 and rsa 3.1, were examined. Both appear on the cell surface early in differentiation, but they differ with respect to their cell-type specificity. rsa 4.2 appears 1-2 h after differentiation has begun and is present on all cells during all stages of differentiation. In contrast, rsa 3.1 appears after 1-2 h on all aggregating amebae and later becomes restricted to prestalk cells. The pattern of regulation of rsa 3.1 indicates that this prestalk antigen appears on all cells early in differentiation but disappears in cells that differentiate along the prespore pathway. As a result, only cells in the anterior of migrating slugs carry this antigen. Predictions of two competing models of Dictyostelium pattern formation, i.e., position-dependent differentiation and random, position-independent differentiation, were tested by flow cytometry and immunochemical staining of sections of cells at the mound and mound-with-tip stages. Our results do not rule out either model, although they are incompatible with the simplest interpretation of the model for position-independent differentiation. The results clearly indicate that cells that ultimately differentiate along the spore pathway pass through an earlier cell state that includes the presence of a prestalk cell-surface antigen identified as rsa 3.1. 相似文献

Serum lipoproteins were measured by ultracentrifugal means in rats bearing hepatomas of different degrees of malignancy (Morris hepatomas 16, 5123TC and 7777) to determine the effect of these hepatomas on serum lipoprotein levels. Serum lipoprotein patterns were altered, especially in rats bearing hepatomas 16 and 7777, which had elevated high-density lipoproteins. (They were not elevated in serum of rats bearing hepatoma 5123TC). This increase in high-density lipoproteins seems to be specific for chemically induced hepatomas since HDL2 is usually decreased in humans and animals with types of cancer not involving the liver. It appears that hepatomas can synthesize lipoproteins, and the serum levels of the host rats are altered depending on the hepatoma. Different biochemistries appear to be associated with each hepatoma. Cholesterol and fatty acid levels of unfractionated serum and of isolated lipoproteins also indicate abnormal lipid/lipoprotein metabolism associated with these hepatomas. 相似文献

The degree and the origins of quantitative variability of most human plasma proteins are largely unknown. Because the twin study design provides a natural opportunity to estimate the relative contribution of heritability and environment to different traits in human population, we applied here the highly accurate and reproducible SWATH mass spectrometry technique to quantify 1,904 peptides defining 342 unique plasma proteins in 232 plasma samples collected longitudinally from pairs of monozygotic and dizygotic twins at intervals of 2–7 years, and proportioned the observed total quantitative variability to its root causes, genes, and environmental and longitudinal factors. The data indicate that different proteins show vastly different patterns of abundance variability among humans and that genetic control and longitudinal variation affect protein levels and biological processes to different degrees. The data further strongly suggest that the plasma concentrations of clinical biomarkers need to be calibrated against genetic and temporal factors. Moreover, we identified 13 cis‐SNPs significantly influencing the level of specific plasma proteins. These results therefore have immediate implications for the effective design of blood‐based biomarker studies. 相似文献
