Prokaryotic cells may contain one of two types of magnetic intracellular structures, either crystalline magnetosomes or noncrystalline magnetic inclusions. In a magnetic field, the locomotor behavior of cells containing magnetosomes is categorized as magnetotaxis, whereas noncrystalline magnetic inclusions cause a passive attraction of cells containing such inclusions to a magnet. The review considers the distribution, structure, and function of both types of magnetic particles in prokaryotic cells. 相似文献

Six strains containing site-specific endonucleases II were selected from a collection of 45 ice-nucleating bacterial strains isolated from rhizosphere of plants growing in various geographical regions. Endonucleases Pfl211I, Psp8I, and Psp23I were isolated and purified from two Pseudomonas sp. strains and a Pseudomonas fluorescens strain. Restriction endonucleases Pfl21I and Psp23I were shown to recognize and cleave the DNA nucleotide sequence 5'-CTGCA decrease G-3'. Endonuclease Psp8I recognized and cleaved the DNA nucleotide sequence 5'-G decrease GATCC-3'. These endonucleases were found to be true isoschizomers of PstI and BamHI, respectively. 相似文献

Bacteria belonging to different taxonomic and physiological groups (members of the genera Pseudomonas, Brevibacterium, Rhodopseudomonas, and Lactococcus) are able to form intracellular cobalt- and chromium-containing magnetic inclusions. The paper deals with the structure and the intracellular localization of these inclusions and their similarity to the known noncrystalline iron-containing magnetic inclusions. New strains of sulfate-reducing bacteria were isolated from two alkaline brackish lakes located in the Siberian region of Russia, namely in the Southern Transbaikalia, Buriatia. The article presents data describing morphology, physiology, and biochemical characteristics of the isolated strains. These strains Ki4, Ki5, and Su2 were mesophilic and alkaliphilic with optimal growth at pH 8.9, 9.4, and 10.0, respectively. All isolated strains utilized lactate, formate, and ethanol in the presence of sulfate for growth and sulfidogenesis accompanied with formation of acetate and CO2. Strains Ki5 and Su2 were able to reduce Fe(III). The DNA G + C content in strains Ki4, Ki5 and Su2 was 56.3, 48.8 and 59.6 mol%, respectively. According to phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA sequences, the new strains were clustered within the genus Desulfonatronum, and the closest relative D. lacustre Z-7951T (=DSM 10312T) showed 99.3–99.6 % similarity. DNA–DNA relatedness values of the strains Ki4, Ki5, and Su2 with D. lacustre Z-7951T were 89, 53, and 79 %, respectively. Polyphasic taxonomy data suggest that strain Ki5T is representative of the proposed novel species Desulfonatronum buryatense sp. nov. 相似文献

A taxonomic study of 35 cultures of prosthecate bacteria of the genera Brevundimonas and Caulobacter isolated from various soil and aquatic ecosystems of Eurasia was performed by amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis
(ARDRA) and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The most widespread groups of prosthecate bacteria belonging to these genera were revealed;
at least two new species belonging to the genus Brevundimonas were found. The genus Brevundimonas includes both prosthecate and non-prosthecate species; however, it is quite possible that some Brevundimonas species may exhibit heterogeneity in such an important taxonomic characteristics as the ability to form prosthecae. 相似文献
