Caesalpinia platyloba was evaluated as an alternative for the retention of atmospheric carbon and as a feasible and viable economic activity in terms of income for tropical deciduous forest (TDF) peasants in the carbon markets. A total of 110 trees of C. platyloba from plantations and a TDF in the Northwest of Mexico were sampled. Growth (increase in height, diameter, and volume curves) was adjusted to assess their growth. Growth of individuals (height, diameter at breast height [DBH], age, and tree crown cover) was recorded. The Schumacher model (H = β0eβ1E-1), by means of the guided curve method, was used to adjust growth models. Information analysis was made through the non-linear procedure with the multivariate secant or false position (DUD) method using the SAS software. Growth and increase models revealed acceptable adjustments (pseudo R2>0.8). C. platyloba reaches >8m of height with 12cm in diameter and 550cm3 of volume, presenting the highest increase at 11 years considered as basal age. Highest significant density of wood was in good quality sites (0.80g•cm-3), with a carbon content (average of 99.15tC•ha-1) at the highest density of 2500 trees•ha-1 (without thinning). Average incomes of US$483.33tC•ha-1 are expected. The profitability values (NPW = US$81,646.65, IRR = 472%, and B/C = 0.82) for C. platyloba make its cultivation a viable and profitable activity, considering a management scheme of the income derived from wood selling and from carbon credits.  相似文献

Zofenopril is a pro-drug designed to undergo metabolic hydrolysis yielding the active free sulfhydryl compound zofenoprilat, which is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, endowed also with a marked cardioprotective activity. A simple, highly sensitive specific LC–MS–MS method was developed for the determination of zofenopril and zofenoprilat in human plasma. In order to prevent oxidative degradation of zofenoprilat and its internal standard, their free sulfhydryl groups were protected by treatment with N-ethylmaleimide (NEM), which produced the succinimide derivatives. The compounds and their corresponding fluorine derivatives, used as internal standards, were extracted from plasma with toluene. The reconstituted dried extracts were chromatographed and then monitored by a triple-stage-quadrupole instrument operating in the negative ion spray ionization mode. The method was validated over the concentration range of 1–300 ng/ml for zofenopril and 2–600 ng/ml for zofenoprilat. Inter- and intra-assay precision and accuracy of both zofenopril and zofenoprilat were better than 10%. The limit of quantitation was 1 ng/ml with zofenopril and 2 ng/ml with zofenoprilat. Extraction recovery proved to be on average 84.8% with zofenopril and 70.1% with zofenoprilat. Similar recoveries were shown by the above two internal standards. The method was applied to measure plasma concentrations of zofenopril and zofenoprilat in 18 healthy volunteers treated orally with zofenopril calcium salt at the dose of 60 mg.  相似文献

Soils from four estuaries of SW Iberian Peninsula, affected by anthropogenic influence (urban, industrial and agricultural activities), were analyzed for the occurrence of a variety of metals and trace elements including Al, As, B, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, P, Pb, S and Zn. The soils presented very high levels of salinity (high concentrations of Na, K and Mg), organic matter and, consequently, of C and N concentrations. In contrast, very low values of CaCO3, Ca and P were found. In addition, it should be highlighted that in certain localities (Piedras 1 and 2 and Guadiana in Huelva, Spain, and Ria Formosa, Faro, Portugal) the concentrations of Pb, S and Zn were extremely high, reaching levels of pollution.  相似文献

Selective deposition of BaSO4 in the tight junctions (TJs) of frog skins led to profound and reversible functional alterations of these structures, as revealed by changes of tissue conductance (G), clamping current (I), and fluxes of extracellular markers (sulfate (JSO 4) and sucrose (JSUC)). Experiments were performed with nominally Ca2+ -free simple salt solutions on the apical side (usually KCl) and Na2SO4-Ringer on the inner side of skins. The deposition of BaSO4 in the TJs was obtained by diffusion and/or migration through the paracellular path of Ba2+ from the apical solution and SO 4 2– from the inner solution. A brief presence (2 to 6 min) of apical Ba2+ (Ba2+ pulse) is followed (i.e., when Ba2+ is removed from the apical fluid) by a large increase of G, I, JSO 4 and JSUC, above pre-Ba2+ levels. These attain a steady state within 15 to 30 min (overshoot phase), characterizing a conspicuous increase of the paracellular permeability. During the overshoot phase, a second Ba2+ pulse blocks the paracellular route while apical Ba2+ is present, leading to a new and larger overshoot when the Ba2+ pulse is terminated. Addition of apical Ca2+ triggers the resealing of the TJs, resulting in a full recovery of G, I, JSO 4 and JSUC. This Ca2+ -induced recovery persists when apical Ca2+ is removed. The presence of a normal Ca2+ concentration in the inner bathing Ringer does not induce the recovery process. Tissues remain viable after being submitted to the Ba2+ treatment and the subsequent overshoot. Experiments performed in the urinary bladder of Rana catesbeiana and skins and urinary bladders of Bufo marinus indicate that Ba2+ effect can also be elicited in these tissues. The above results seem to report general properties of the TJs. Where plant species vie for limited resources, disturbances might preclude competition by releasing a flush of nutrients, or by reducing biomass and thereby diminishing the consumption of resources. However, if new seedlings colonize in clumps, they may still deplete resources within the local aggregations, which may then reduce their growth and survivorship. We investigated competition among seedlings in a burned area by examining the relationship between the performance of newly established shrub seedlings of Ceanothus impressus and (1) the proximity and (2) the identity of their near neighbors. We also investigated the relationship between neighbor proximity and the availability of water. Both survivorship and growth of C. impressus were positively associated with increasing distance to near neighbors, in a manner consistent with resource competition. The availability of water (as determined by pre-dawn xylem pressure potentials) tended to be greater when neighbors were farther away, providing evidence that water was a resource for which plants were competing. This conclusion is reinforced by the finding that the effects of neighbors were stronger in drought years, suggesting that yearly variation in the availability of an important resource (water) can affect the strength of competitive interactions. This suggests that after disturbances, when some resources are apparently abundant on a large scale, competition may be important in determining the small scale patterns of seedling growth and survival.  相似文献

Yellow and red-violet betalain plant pigments are restricted to several families in the order Caryophyllales, where betacyanins play analogous biological roles to anthocyanins. The initial step in betalain biosynthesis is the hydroxylation of tyrosine to form L-DOPA. Using gene expression experiments in beets, yeast, and Arabidopsis, along with HPLC/MS analysis, the present study shows that two novel cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes, CYP76AD6 and CYP76AD5, and the previously described CYP76AD1 can perform this initial step. Co-expressing these CYP450s with DOPA 4,5-dioxygenase in yeast, and overexpression of these CYP450s in yellow beets show that CYP76AD1 efficiently uses L-DOPA leading to red betacyanins while CYP76AD6 and CYP76AD5 lack this activity. Furthermore, CYP76AD1 can complement yellow beetroots to red while CYP76AD6 and CYP76AD5 cannot. Therefore CYP76AD1 uniquely performs the beet R locus function and beets appear to be genetically redundant for tyrosine hydroxylation. These new functional data and ancestral character state reconstructions indicate that tyrosine hydroxylation alone was the most likely ancestral function of the CYP76AD alpha and beta groups and the ability to convert L-DOPA to cyclo-DOPA evolved later in the alpha group.  相似文献
