Relations between neurons of the reticular and specific relay nuclei of the thalamus were studied in cats immobilized with tubocurarine. Under the influence of stimulation of the reticular nucleus (RN) unit activity in the thalamic relay nuclei was found to be considerably modulated. Cases of the appearance of IPSPs (possibly of monosynaptic nature), evoked by stimulation of RN, in neurons of the ventroposterolateral nucleus (VPLN) and lateral geniculate body (LGB) are described. During simultaneous recording of unit activity in RN and VPLN or LGB by means of two electrodes interaction of several types was found: inhibition of discharges of VPLN or LGB neurons accompanied by excitation of RN neurons: alternation of excitation-inhibition in neuron pairs in RN and VPLN or RN and LGB during low-frequency afferent or cortical stimulation (in this case excitation of RN neurons is associated with inhibition of VPLN or LGB neurons), and strengthening of the discharge of VPLN or LGB neurons during excitation of RN neurons. The possibility of the existence both of direct monosynaptic inhibition of activity of VPLN or LGB relay neurons under the influence of excitation of RN neurons and of their inhibition by activation of hypothetical interneurons of the relay nuclei themselves is accepted.I. Temporal characteristics of density bursts in the scrape-off layer of the CASTOR tokamak were investigated. Intermittent positive bursts of density are observed by means of a radial array of Langmuir probes. Globally (comparing the closest and furthermost radial positions with respect to the center of the discharge chamber) we observe a radial decrease of average burst rate together with a radial increase of the average burst duration. Recently, we observed a monotonic radial decrease of average burst rate together with an increase of the average burst duration in the Tore Supra tokamak [1, 2], but the decay length is significantly shorter than in CASTOR. This is most probably due to radially elongated turbulent events (streamers), which govern the radial transport at the edge of the CASTOR tokamak [3] and are responsible for the appearance of density bursts. Effects of stimulation of the claustrum and caudate nucleus in the neocortex and various deep brain structures were studied in acute experiments on unanesthetized cats immobilized with tubocurarine. A rhythmic after discharge appeared in neocortical areas 4–7 and 18 (according to Reinoso-Suarez' atlas), and also in the caudate nucleus and various parts of the thalamus. A similar discharge also was observed in the claustrum itself. Diencephalic brain section at the level of the ventral anterior nucleus weakened but did not completely abolish the cortical rhythmic after-discharge in the anterior regions of the neocortex evoked by stimulation of the claustrum. This discharge was completely blocked after sagittal brain section between the claustrum and the rest of the thalamus.I. S. Neural progenitors in the adult dentate gyrus continuously produce new functional granule cells. Here we used whole-cell patch-clamp recordings to explore whether a pathological environment influences synaptic properties of new granule cells labeled with a GFP-retroviral vector. Rats were exposed to a physiological stimulus, i.e., running, or a brain insult, i.e., status epilepticus, which gave rise to neuronal death, inflammation, and chronic seizures. Granule cells formed after these stimuli exhibited similar intrinsic membrane properties. However, the new neurons born into the pathological environment differed with respect to synaptic drive and short-term plasticity of both excitatory and inhibitory afferents. The new granule cells formed in the epileptic brain exhibited functional connectivity consistent with reduced excitability. We demonstrate a high degree of plasticity in synaptic inputs to adult-born new neurons, which could act to mitigate pathological brain function.  相似文献

The changes in the oxidative metabolism of rabbit myocardium in hemorrhagic shock were studied. The external pathway of NADH oxidation was shown to be activated, while the rates of glutamate oxidation in the presence of an uncoupler were diminished as compared to control values. These changes are probably due to the activation of phospholipase A2 and lipid peroxidation, since their inhibitors eliminate with the same efficiency the activation of the external pathway of NADH oxidation both in normal and damaged myocardium.  相似文献

Many proteins have been proposed to act as surrogate markers of organ damage, yet for many candidates the essential biomarker characteristics that link the protein to the injured organ have not yet been described. We generated an Ngal reporter mouse by inserting a double-fusion reporter gene encoding luciferase-2 and mCherry (Luc2-mC) into the Ngal (Lcn2) locus. The Ngal-Luc2-mC reporter accurately recapitulated the endogenous message and illuminated injuries in vivo in real time. In the kidney, Ngal-Luc2-mC imaging showed a sensitive, rapid, dose-dependent, reversible, and organ- and cell-specific relationship with tubular stress, which correlated with the level of urinary Ngal (uNgal). Unexpectedly, specific cells of the distal nephron were the source of uNgal. Cells isolated from Ngal-Luc2-mC mice also revealed both the onset and the resolution of the injury, and the actions of NF-κB inhibitors and antibiotics during infection. Thus, imaging of Ngal-Luc2-mC mice and cells identified injurious and reparative agents that affect kidney damage.  相似文献

In our study, we tried, first, to elucidate whether induction of emotional behavior resulting from stimulation of the dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH) influences the development of seizure activity in the course of epileptogenesis within the framework of fast kindling (stimulation of the hippocampus) and, second, to estimate if such stimulation is capable of modulating manifestations of generalized seizures under conditions of the pre-formed “full” epileptic syndrome. Stimulation of the DMH in the above two experimental situations resulted in significant suppression of both electrographic and behavioral manifestations of seizure activity. We hypothesize that the respective emotional reactions can be interpreted as phenomena of instinctive behavior having an adaptive defensive significance. These reactions are related to inhibitory processes providing protection from the development of seizure activity.  相似文献

Changes in seizure activity of the brain evoked by electrical stimulation of the dorsal hippocampus in various stages of sleep and wakefulness were studied in adult cats. During slow sleep, when the EEG is dominated by high-voltage slow waves, near-threshold epileptogenic hippocampal stimulation evokes well-marked paroxysmal discharges. During wakefulness or the paradoxical phase of sleep, when the EEG is desynchronized, this hippocampal stimulation is less effective: either no seizure discharges are produced or they are weak. Activation of the mesencephalic reticular formation before epileptogenic hippocampal stimulation hinders the appearance of seizure activity whereas activation after hippocampal stimulation does not inhibit paroxysmal discharges already in progress; on the contrary, in some cases they are actually strengthened a little. One of the main factors limiting the appearance and spread of seizure activity is considered to be the tonic inhibitory influence of the neocortex on other parts of the brain.  相似文献
