Studied were the quantities of volatile amines, total volatile bases nitrogen (TVB‐N) and trimethylamine nitrogen (TMA‐N) in stored sardines (Sardina pilchardus) and herring (Clupea harengus) over a 24‐h period after defrosting. At the beginning of the experiment analyses showed TVB‐N quantities in the flesh of both species to be higher than the FAO‐recommended limit. TMA‐N concentrations exceeded the acceptance limit 6 h after defrosting in herring samples and after 12 h in sardines. During the entire experiment TMA‐N and TVB‐N concentrations in sardines were above the tolerance limit. The defrosting method usually applied in tuna farms is unsuitable for maintenance of a high quality food supply. Low quality baitfish can cause reduced weight gain as well as induce health problems and mortality in farmed tuna (Thunnus thynnus) populations.  相似文献

The reptile fauna of Romania comprises 23 species, out of which 12 species reach here the limit of their geographic range. We compiled and updated a national database of the reptile species occurrences from a variety of sources including our own field surveys, personal communication from specialists, museum collections and the scientific literature. The occurrence records were georeferenced and stored in a geodatabase for additional analysis of their spatial patterns. The spatial analysis revealed a biased sampling effort concentrated in various protected areas, and deficient in the vast agricultural areas of the southern part of Romania. The patterns of species richness showed a higher number of species in the warmer and drier regions, and a relatively low number of species in the rest of the country. Our database provides a starting point for further analyses, and represents a reliable tool for drafting conservation plans.  相似文献

The temperature-dependent, primary dormancy of cv. Florida 683 celery seeds in darkness was partially broken by a 30 min light exposure on the third day of incubation at 20–22°C, resulting in c 50 percent germination after 20 days. This light stimulation was negated by including different inhibitors of gibberellin biosynthesis in the incubation medium. Subsequent addition of a solution of the gibberellins A4 and A7 or of the gibberellin-active compound (1-3-chlorophthalimido)-cyclohexane carboxamide (AC94,377) overcame the inhibitory effects on germination of these GA-biosynthesis inhibitors. Celery (Apium graveolens L.) plants cv. Jason overwintered in a polythene tunnel flowered earlier and grew taller than similar plants given a 10-week cold-treatment at 5°C prior to transplanting in the same tunnel in mid-February. However, there was no significant difference in the yield of seeds obtained from both treatments, plants grown at a density of 4m-2 yielded less seeds than those at 2m-2, though the yield per unit area was slightly higher from the high density treatment. Treatment with 100 mgl-1 GA3 applied twice just prior to flowering and during anthesis increased flower stalk, flower pedicel and stamen length but delayed flower opening and seed ripening and decreased seed set and seed yield. Treatment with a mixture of 1000 mgl-1 GA4 and GA7 plus 1000 mgl-1 ethephon on three occasions during seed ripening decreased seed yield and reduced seed germination though those seeds capable of germinating were less dormant than seeds from untreated plants. The size distribution of seeds was unaffected by any treatment other than the preseeding spray with GA3 which reduced the percentage of medium-size seeds.  相似文献

Three fungicides, chlorothalonil, dichloran and mancozeb were studied to determine the effects on growth and production of roridin E by Myrothecium roridum in vitro. With increasing concentrations of fungicides, both growth and production of roridin E were inhibited. Of the three fungicides, chlorothalonil was much more effective in the inhibition of growth and production of roridin E, than dichloran and mancozeb.  相似文献

Analysis of the reassociation kinetics of the DNA from Cladophora pellucida (Huds.) Kütz. indicates that the genome of this benthic alga is comprised of approximately 75% repetitive sequences. Single-copy sequences reassociated with a rate constant of 1.8 × 10?3 M?1· s?1, which corresponds to a haploid genome size of 4.7 × 108 bp. Genotypic relationships between members of the form section Longiarticulatae were determined by the method of DNA–DNA hybridization. No significant divergence was observed between the single-copy sequences of C. pellucida isolates from the East Atlantic coast and Mediterranean Sea. Cladophora feredayi Harv. and C. att. ad pellucida from Australia and C. pellucidoidea van den Hoek from the West Atlantic coast were highly and about equally divergent from C. pellucida. The data support the hypothesis that the West Atlantic–West Pacific divergence reflects the middle Miocene closure of the Mediterranean–Indo-Pacific seaways, and the hypothesis that the Northwest Atlantic–Northeast Atlantic divergence reflects the middle Miocene thermal separation of these coasts.  相似文献

Under proper conditions, Bdellovibrio sp. strain W cells develop into bdellocysts in appropriate prey bacteria. After attachment and penetration of the prey cell, the encysting bdellovibrio began to accumulate inclusion material and increase in size, and was surrounded by an outer layer of amorphous electrondense material. The cytoplasm of the encysting cell appeared more electron dense, and nuclear areas appeared more compact. During germination of bdellocysts, the outer wall was uniformly broken down the inclusion material changed shape and affinity for the heavy metal stain, and the nuclear areas expanded. As the outer wall was dissolved, outgrowth began with the elongation of the germinant as it emerged from the prey ghost as an actively motile cell.  相似文献

Mechanistic aspects of the biosynthesis of oestrogen have been studied with a microsomal preparation from full-term human placenta. The overall transformation, termed the aromatization process, involves three steps using O2 and NADPH, in which the C-19 methyl group of an androgen is oxidised to formic acid with concomitant production of the aromatic ring of oestrogen: [Formula: see text] To study the mechanism of this process in terms of the involvement of the oxygen atoms, a number of labelled precursors were synthesized. Notable amongst these were 19-hydroxy-4-androstene-3,17-dione (II) and 19-oxo-4-androstene-3,17-dione (IV) in which the C-19 was labelled with 2H in addition to 18O. In order to follow the fate of the labelled atoms at C-19 of (II) and (IV) during the aromatization, the formic acid released from C-19 was benzylated and analysed by mass spectrometry. Experimental procedures were devised to minimize the exchange of oxygen atoms in substrates and product with oxygens of the medium. In the conversion of the 19-[18O] compounds of types (II) and (IV) into 3-hydroxy-1,3,5-(10)-oestratriene-17-one (V, oestrone), it was found that the formic acid from C-19 retained the original substrate oxygen. When the equivalent 16O substrates were aromatized under 18O2, the formic acid from both substrates contained one atom of 18O. It is argued that in the conversion of the 19-hydroxy compound (II) into the 19-oxo compound (IV), the C-19 oxygen of the former remains intact and that one atom of oxygen from O2 is incorporated into formic acid during the conversion of the 19-oxo compound (IV) into oestrogen. This conclusion was further substantiated by demonstrating that in the aromatization of 4-androstene-3,17-dione (I), both the oxygen atoms in the formic acid originated from molecular oxygen. 10β-Hydroxy-4-oestrene-3,17-dione formate, a possible intermediate in the aromatization, was synthesized and shown not to be converted into oestrogen. In the light of the cumulative evidence available to date, stereochemical aspects of the conversion of the 19-hydroxy compound (II) into the 19-oxo compound (IV), and mechanistic features of the C-10–C-19 bond cleavage step during the conversion of the 19-oxo compound (IV) into oestrogen are discussed.  相似文献
