PGRP-S (Tag7) is an innate immunity protein involved in the antimicrobial defense systems, both in insects and in mammals. We have previously shown that Tag7 specifically interacts with several proteins, including Hsp70 and the calcium binding protein S100A4 (Mts1), providing a number of novel cellular functions. Here we show that Tag7–Mts1 complex causes chemotactic migration of lymphocytes, with NK cells being a preferred target. Cells of either innate immunity (neutrophils and monocytes) or acquired immunity (CD4+ and CD8+ lymphocytes) can produce this complex, which confirms the close connection between components of the 2 branches of immune response. 相似文献

Summary Multiple molecular forms of glutamine synthetase (GS, EC 6.3.1.2) have been studied in pea seeds of different varieties. The number of GS molecular forms in the seeds proved to be related to their colour. Two GS forms in the green seeds have been found and only one of them in the yellow seeds. Green seeds had chlorophyll content amounted to 0.4% of the total pigment content in the leaves. Chloroplasts, somewhat smaller than those in pea leaves of the same variety, have been isolated from green seeds. The presence of the second GS form in the pea green seeds we relate to the chloroplasts. By electrophoretic mobility both forms of GS from the green seeds are not identical to the chloroplast GS and the cytosol GS of leaves. Thus, we believe pea plant to contain, at least, four GS forms. 相似文献

Background
Elucidation of the communal behavior of microbes in mixed species biofilms may have a major impact on understanding infectious diseases and for the therapeutics. Although, the structure and the properties of monospecies biofilms and their role in disease have been extensively studied during the last decade, the interactions within mixed biofilms consisting of bacteria and fungi such as Candida spp. have not been illustrated in depth. Hence, the aim of this study was to evaluate the interspecies interactions of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and six different species of Candida comprising C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. krusei, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis, and C. dubliniensis in dual species biofilm development. 相似文献5.

Background
In honeybees, differential feeding of female larvae promotes the occurrence of two different phenotypes, a queen and a worker, from identical genotypes, through incremental alterations, which affect general growth, and character state alterations that result in the presence or absence of specific structures. Although previous studies revealed a link between incremental alterations and differential expression of physiometabolic genes, the molecular changes accompanying character state alterations remain unknown. 相似文献6.

Background
To help conservation programs of the endangered spur-thighed tortoise and to gain better insight into its systematics, genetic variation and evolution in the tortoise species Testudo graeca (Testudines: Testudinidae) was investigated by sequence analysis of a 394-nucleotide fragment of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene for 158 tortoise specimens belonging to the subspecies Testudo graeca graeca, Testudo graeca ibera, Testudo graeca terrestris, and a newly recognized subspecies Testudo graeca whitei. A 411-nucleotide fragment of the mitochondrial D-loop was additionally sequenced for a subset of 22 T. graeca, chosen because of their 12S gene haplotype and/or geographical origin. 相似文献7.
Wheat lectin (wheat germ agglutinin, WGA), a representative of a broad group of cereal lectins, is excreted by plant roots into the surrounding medium and interacts with both pathogenic microflora and growth-stimulating rhizobacteria. WGA was found to serve as a molecular signal for the rhizobacterium Azospirillum brasilense, which forms endophytic and associative symbioses with wheat plants. The bacterial response to the lectin was pleiotropic: WGA at concentrations from 10?10 to 10?6 M exerted a dose-dependent effect on a range of processes in the bacterium that are important for the establishment and functioning of symbiosis. Plants with different WGA content differed in their responses to severe nitrogen starvation and to seed treatment with Azospirillum. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Catalases are important antioxidant metalloenzymes that catalyze disproportionation of hydrogen peroxide, forming dioxygen and water. Two families of catalases are known, one having a heme cofactor, and the other, a structurally distinct family containing nonheme manganese. We have solved the structure of the mesophilic manganese catalase from Lactobacillus plantarum and its azide-inhibited complex. RESULTS: The crystal structure of the native enzyme has been solved at 1.8 A resolution by molecular replacement, and the azide complex of the native protein has been solved at 1.4 A resolution. The hexameric structure of the holoenzyme is stabilized by extensive intersubunit contacts, including a beta zipper and a structural calcium ion crosslinking neighboring subunits. Each subunit contains a dimanganese active site, accessed by a single substrate channel lined by charged residues. The manganese ions are linked by a mu1,3-bridging glutamate carboxylate and two mu-bridging solvent oxygens that electronically couple the metal centers. The active site region includes two residues (Arg147 and Glu178) that appear to be unique to the Lactobacillus plantarum catalase. CONCLUSIONS: A comparison of L. plantarum and T. thermophilus catalase structures reveals the existence of two distinct structural classes, differing in monomer design and the organization of their active sites, within the manganese catalase family. These differences have important implications for catalysis and may reflect distinct biological functions for the two enzymes, with the L. plantarum enzyme serving as a catalase, while the T. thermophilus enzyme may function as a catalase/peroxidase. 相似文献

A genetic analysis of the Triticum aestivum/Aegilops umbellulata introgressive line for the ear awnedness trait was carried out. Based on the results obtained in the study of awnedness and microsatellite components in lines and hybrids, a digenic model was proposed for the control of this trait by two genes??inhibitor of awnedness B1 (5AL) and promoter of awnedness Awn1, which are both located on chromosome 6U of Aegilops umbellulata. Chromosome 5A of the awned line was rearranged with respect to the same chromosome of the Aurora genotype. The genetic distance between the SSR-locus Xwmc705-5AL and the rearranged fragment or locus B1/b1 was determined to be 15.5 cM. 相似文献
