Endogenous patterns of photomechanical movements in teleosts and their relation to activity rhythms 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Summary The retinal rods, cones and epithelial pigment of most lower vertebrates display rhythmic photomechanical (retinomotor) migrations in response to changes in ambient lighting conditions. This study examines the extent of these migrations in the absence of the daily changes in illumination (constant darkness and constant light) in three species of teleosts.
Salmo trutta, a crepuscularly active fish, showed two peaks of light adaptation occurring around dawn and dusk when kept in constant darkness. Tinca tinca, a nocturnal species, also showed an endogenous rhythm during extended periods of darkness, but, unlike Salmo trutta, it was light-adapted throughout what would normally have been day. At the maximal extent of migration under conditions of continual darkness, the pigment migrated 59% as much as it did during a normal light/dark cycle. Nannacara anomala, a tropical diurnally active species, showed a similar but more pronounced rhythm than Tinea tinea for all 3 days of experimental darkness, behaving essentially identically to fish exposed to a light/dark cycle. Nannacara anomala also displayed a weak rhythm when kept in constant light.It is concluded from these and previous results that the pattern of endogenous photomechanical movement depends both on the activity pattern of a species and on the constancy of the lighting conditions to which it has been exposed during its lifetime. 相似文献

Fermenting fruit can contain acetic acid, a known attractant for fruit flies. Vinegar food induces a bimodal oviposition rhythm in Drosophila melanogaster, however non-vinegar (control) food induces a unimodal rhythm. The bimodal rhythm has a broad day mode showing variability in onset or pattern and a sharp dusk peak. The day mode may not be coupled to the dusk peak or to the 12L : 12D cycle because some flies show oviposition drifting. The day mode augments at the expense of the dusk mode, the latter diminishing within a few days. The unimodal expression on control food is a single dusk peak. Anticipation in the form of oviposition onset is shown by a few flies several hours before the light-off signal. On control food, a pulse of acetic acid fumes can induce a daytime oviposition. When pulsed twice in the day several hours apart two daytime modes are produced, thus leaving few eggs in the dusk mode. The experiments suggest that the fly is attracted to fruit by odours and oviposit rhythmically of a biological clock. If acetic acid is present in fermenting fruit oviposition is induced, thus overriding the clock. 相似文献

Adult oviparae of Schizaphis graminum emit a sex pheromone from scent plaques on the metathoracic tibiae, as do oviparae of other aphid species. By allowing males to walk along a wire walkway, a turning response and an increased rate of antennation were observed when the aphids were within 1–2 cm of a pheromone source. Adult males responded but 4th instar larval males did not.The onset of the release of the pheromone by the oviparae is triggered by the initiation of the light phase in a LD-cycle, and is governed by a circadian rhythm with a free-running period of 25.6 hr under continuous illumination of 15 lx. Summary The responses of two egg-plant varieties to irrigation rhythm and water supply based on daily potential evapotranspiration were performed on St-Paul silt loam.Results showed that a shorter irrigation rhythm gives the best production in terms of fruit yield (Table 1). Daily irrigation gives a leaf blade with a lower specific weight than the bi-weekly irrigation rhythm during the whole sampling period (Fig. 1).When we compared 4 quantities of water representing 40 to 100% of the potential evapotranspiration, the best results in terms of fruit yield were obtained with the irrigation giving 80% of the potential evapotranspiration (Table 2). But there is no significant difference between the specific leaf weights (Fig. 2).When we observed the varietal behaviour we found that the cultivar Violette de Barbentane gives a production 20% higher than that of Ronde de Valence. But the water potential and transpiration resistance of leaves are not very different for the two varieties (Figs. 5 and 6).The results about the influence of varieties come from one part of the study by M. Responses of net photosynthetic rates to temperature, irradiance, pH/inorganic carbon and diurnal rhythm were analyzed in 15 populations of eight freshwater red algal species in culture and natural conditions. Photosynthetic rates were determined by oxygen concentration using the light and dark bottles technique. Parameters derived from the photosynthesis–irradiance curves indicated adaptation to low irradiance for all freshwater red algae tested, confirming that they tend to occur under low light regimes. Some degree of photo‐inhibition (β= ‐0.33–0.01 mg O2 g?1 DW h?1 (μmol photons m?2 s?1)?1) was found for all species/populations analyzed, whereas light compensation points (Ic) were very low (≤ 2 μmol photons m‐ photons s?1) for most algae tested. Saturation points were low for all algae tested (Ik = 6–54 μmol photons m?2 s?1; Is = 20–170 umol photons m?2 s?1). Rates of net photosynthesis and dark respiration responded to the variation in temperature. Optimum temperature values for net photosynthesis were variable among species and populations so that best performances were observed under distinct temperature conditions (10, 15, 20 or 25°C). Rates of dark respiration exhibited an increasing trend with temperature, with highest values under 20–25°C. Results from pH experiments showed best photosynthetic performances under pH 8.5 or 6.5 for all but one species, indicating higher affinity for inorganic carbon as bicarbonate or indistinct use of bicarbonate and free carbon dioxide. Diurnal changes in photosynthetic rates revealed a general pattern for all algae tested, which was characterized by two relatively clear peaks, with some variations around it: a first (higher) during the morning (07.00–11.00 hours.) and a second (lower) in the afternoon (14.00–18.00 hours). Comparative data between the ‘Chantransia’ stage and the respective gametophyte for one Batrachospermum population revealed higher values (ca 2‐times) in the latter, much lower than previously reported. The physiological role of the ‘Chantransia’ stage needs to be better analyzed. 相似文献

Abstract. Under an LD 12:12h photoregime at constant temperature, parturition in Glossina morsitans centralis is a gated event occurring late in the afternoon. When flies are switched to continuous light the rhythm quickly dampens, but its persistence for at least two 24-h cycles beyond the final scotophase suggests the rhythm has a circadian basis. A weak rhythm appears after 7 days of continuous light, perhaps in response to the daily disturbance caused by feeding. Return of the flies to LD 12:12h restores the rhythm after exposure to a single scotophase. 相似文献

Summary Locomotor activity of the river lamprey, Lampetra japonica, was investigated under a light-dark (LD 1212) cycle and under continuous dark conditions. Intact lampreys were entrained to the light:dark cycle. They were active mainly in the early half of the dark period and inactive in light period. The light:dark entrainment continued in 72.7% of lampreys after the removal of bilateral eyes, but additional pinealectomy made the entrainment disappear in all lampreys. When lampreys were pinealectomized with their eyes intact, light: dark entrainment was abolished in most cases. The results indicate that the pineal organ of the lamprey is a photoreceptive organ responsible for synchronizing locomotor activity to LD cycle. Under continuous dark conditions, the locomotor activity began to free-run with a period of 21.3 ± 0.9 h (mean ± SD, n = 53). This circadian rhythmicity was not affected by the removal of lateral eyes but was abolished by pinealectomy. The pineal organ appears to function as an oscillator, or as one of the oscillators, for the circadian locomotor rhythm of lampreys.Abbreviations DD

In this study the flight activity of female and male Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) moths was observed and compared to hemolymph lipid concentrations. The major male and female H. zea flight activity occurred between simulated dusk (1700) and dawn (0300). Male flight activity was up to 7 times greater than females through 6 days after eclosion except for the 1st day (0.8 times). Females had a unimodal pattern of flight activity, peaking between dusk and 2 h later. Males had a bimodal pattern; one between dusk and 2 h later, and another 3 h after dusk, continuing for h. Prior to dusk, total neutral hemolymph lipids (neutral) of H. zea day 4 moths was 64 μg/μl for males and 48 μg/μl for females. Typical lipid composition in day 4 males prior to flight was 1,2-diacylglycerides (DG) (50% w/w), triacylglycerides (TG) (35%), cholesterol esters (2%), and less than 1% monoacylglycerides and cholesterol. The remainder consisted of free fatty acids (<0.5 μg/μl), and various uncharacterized phospholipids and lipophilic compounds. Hemolymph DG concentration patterns were similar between day 4 males and females, were highest in both sexes prior to, during, and after flight (approximately 32 μg/μl), and then decreased steadily throughout the flight period to approximately 16 μg/ml as flight ceased. Hemolymph TG were lower than DG, but followed the same pattern except at 2100 and 2300. In day 4 males between 2100 and 2300, TG increased to 33 μg/μl which was when DG was lowest (15 μg/μl) and their flight activity was highest. Hemolymph DG decreased (26 to 20 μg/μl) in day 4 females between 2100 and 2300 as TG remained fairly constant (18 μg/μl). 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the ischemic burden and the hemodynamic changes during daily activities in patients with coronary heart disease. Three exercise tests were performed during the day (10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m.), recording ST-segment depression, pulmonary artery pressure, pulmonary wedge pressure, and cardiac output as well as heart rate and systemic blood pressure during placebo and nitrate therapy. With placebo as well as nitrate therapy there was a gradual increase of ischemia and preload and a decrease of cardiac output during the day. High nitrate concentrations led to a significant reduction of both preload and ST depression with a marked circadian phase dependency of cardiovascular effects. 相似文献
