Do species evenness and plant density influence the magnitude of selection and complementarity effects in annual plant species mixtures? 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Abstract Plant species richness influences primary productivity via mechanisms that (1) favour species with particular traits (selection effect) and (2) promote niche differentiation between species (complementarity). Influences of species evenness, plant density and other properties of plant communities on productivity are poorly defined, but may depend on whether selection or complementarity prevails in species mixtures. We predicted that selection effects are insensitive to species evenness but increase with plant density, and that the converse is true for complementarity. To test predictions, we grew three species of annuals in monocultures and in three‐species mixtures in which evenness of established plants was varied at each of three plant densities in a cultivated field in Texas, USA. Above‐ground biomass was smaller in mixtures than expected from monocultures because of negative ‘complementarity’ and a negative selection effect. Neither selection nor complementarity varied with species evenness, but selection effects increased at the greatest plant density as predicted. 相似文献

Over the last two decades, although much has been learned regarding the multifaceted nature of biodiversity, relatively little is known regarding spatial variation in constituents other than species richness. This is particularly true along extensive environmental gradients such as latitude. Herein, we describe latitudinal gradients in the functional diversity of New World bat communities. Bat species from each of 32 communities were assigned to one of seven functional groups. Latitudinal gradients existed for the richness, diversity and scaled‐dominance of functional groups. No significant patterns were observed for evenness of functional groups. Measures of functional diversity were different in magnitude and increased towards the equator at a faster rate than expected given the underlying spatial variation in species richness. Thus, latitudinal gradient in species richness alone do not cause the latitudinal gradient in functional diversity. When variation in species composition of the regional fauna of each community was incorporated into analyses, many differences between observed and simulated patterns of functional diversity were not significant. This suggests that those processes that determine the composition of regional faunas strongly influence the latitudinal gradient in functional diversity at the local level. Nonetheless, functional diversity was lower than expected across observed sites. Community‐wide responses to variation in the quantity and quality of resources at the local level probably contribute to differences in functional diversity at local and regional scales and enhance beta diversity. 相似文献

Plant species diversity has been recognized as one of the vital attributes for assessing vegetation restoration. Changes in the diversity may be related to different stages of succession. In this study, 54 sites of humid, evergreen, broad-leaved forest were selected in the Rainy Zone of West China. A chronosequence of the sites was used to study the successive patterns of the diversity in the forest that had undergone natural regeneration for 5 to 350 years and to test the hypothesis that the diversity is maximized in mid-succession. Data were collected simultaneously at different stages of succession, and four α-diversity indices (species richness, Margalef index, Shannon-Wiener index, Pielou Evenness index) and two β-diversity indices (Whittaker index, Sørensen’s index) were calculated for each stratum in each plot. A total of 394 vascular plant species were recorded. From the β-diversity indices, the forest succession may be divided into the early-successional stage (before 50 years), mid-successional stage (from 50 to 300 years), and late-successional stage (after 300 years). In this community, the species diversity and richness were found to be the greatest at the mid-successional stage, followed by the late- and early-successional stages. The results of regression analysis indicated that the richness and Margalef index peaked around the 175th and 165th year, respectively. Shannon-Wiener index values also appeared to follow an approximately humped pattern of succession and were maximal around the 100th year. However, the species evenness did not show any significant relationship with successional age. Our results demonstrate (1) forest restoration is a long-term process and the formation of climax forest requires at least 300 years and (2) the forest has a strong capacity for restoration. Our results also suggest Lindera limprichitii and Machilus pingii as ideal tree species for afforestation because of their wide niche. 相似文献

Biodiversity is a multifaceted concept but most studies examining the association between the biodiversity of a community
and its productivity focus only on species richness. Consequently, studies are needed to examine how other facets of biodiversity
vary with productivity if we want to have a better understanding of the distribution of biodiversity across our planet. We
evaluated how a number of biodiversity measures (species richness, evenness, dominance, rarity, Simpson’s diversity, and Shannon–Weiner
diversity) varied across natural productivity gradients at 6 grassland sites in the continental US. Variation in productivity
did not account for a substantial amount of variation in any measure of biodiversity at small spatial scales (≈1 m2) at most sites. When productivity accounted for substantial variation in biodiversity, different measures of biodiversity
responded to productivity in different ways. For example, dominance changed in a U-shaped fashion along a productivity gradient
whereas richness increased in an asymptotic fashion. Consequently, diversity indices, which account for both species richness
and evenness, varied in a hump-shaped fashion along the productivity gradient. Our results highlight that an exclusive focus
on the association between species richness and productivity provides an incomplete picture of how a community’s biodiversity

为了探寻甲真菌病患者病甲部位的真菌多样性,以期对临床治疗提供参考,结合菌种培养的形态学研究和rDNA ITS序列分析的方法,对临床拟诊为甲真菌病患者的病甲分离培养菌株进行物种鉴定,并以丰富性指数(Ma)、多样性指数(H′)、均匀度指数(J)等指标分析指甲和趾甲分离真菌的多样性。2010年2月至9月在北京大学第三医院皮肤科的1 568例拟诊甲真菌病患者中,641例培养阳性,包括趾甲561例和指甲80例。检测到的皮肤癣菌占59.13%(其中红色毛癣菌为96.04%),酵母菌17.00%,其他真菌23.87%。分离自趾甲的Candida galli、Lewia infectoria和Paraconiothyrium hawaiiense,以及分离自指甲的Cyberlindnera jadinii确定为中国新记录种。趾甲分离菌的物种多样性指数H′、丰富度指数Ma和均匀度指数J均高于指甲分离菌。研究结果表明,该医院就诊甲真菌病患者可分离培养的真菌以皮肤癣菌的红色毛癣菌为主要物种,且趾甲分离菌的菌种多样性较指甲的更为明显。 相似文献

本文就人工林经营中的三种更新方式对植物群落中物种多样性的影响进行研究。结果表明,1200m^2样地物种丰富度为:天然更新159种,人促更新130种,人工造林94种;多样性指数(Dsh)分别为4.3004、3.9283、3.5048;多样性均匀度指数(Jsh)分别为0.8484、0.8070、0.7714。人工造林的营林干扰是物种丧失和林分物种多样性下降的主要原因。 相似文献
