Energy consumption is one of the main concerns in mobile ad hoc networks (or MANETs). The lifetime of its devices highly depends on the energy consumption as they rely on batteries. The adaptive enhanced distance based broadcasting algorithm, AEDB, is a message dissemination protocol for MANETs that uses cross-layer technology to highly reduce the energy consumption of devices in the process, while still providing competitive performance in terms of coverage and time. We use two different multi-objective evolutionary algorithms to optimize the protocol on three network densities, and we evaluate the scalability of the best found AEDB configurations on larger networks and different densities.  相似文献

Gametophytes are more abundant thou sporophytes in wave exposed rocky intertidal populations of Iridaea laminarioides Bory in Central Chile. In this study we experimental tested the differential effects of selected ecological factors on karyologically different life history phases. In the field, gametophytes dominated at higher elevation and during summer; tetrasporophytes were most abundant low in the intertidal and during the fall. Laboratory responses correlated with these patterns. Gametophytes exhibited greater desiccation tolerance than tetrasporophytes. Optimum growth of gametophytes occurred at higher temperatures (20°C) and longer photoperiods (16:8 h LD) than sporophytes (15°C and 12:12 h LD). Grazing preferences changed with the developmental stage of the alga, but all herbivores tested had increased preference for diploid tissues as compared to haploid. Number of spores produced with respect to total plant surface, or total rocky surface, or settlement of spores and their germination rate did not show significant differences between phases but showed great variability in space and time. Spontaneous spore release, however, was always higher in cystocarpic than in tetrasporangial thalli. Such a combination of results suggests that some real ecological differences exist between the two life history phases of I. laminarioides. Such ecological differences permit a prediction of vertical and temporal patterns of distribution for both phases. Horizontal patterns of distribution cannot be explained because the several selection factors probably interact differently in various habitats.  相似文献

Increased right atrial (RA) and ventricular (RV) chamber volumes are a late maladaptive response to chronic pulmonary hypertension. The purpose of the current investigation was to characterize the early compensatory changes that occur in the right heart during chronic RV pressure overload before the development of chamber dilation. Magnetic resonance imaging with radiofrequency tissue tagging was performed on dogs at baseline and after 10 wk of pulmonary artery banding to yield either mild RV pressure overload (36% rise in RV pressure; n = 5) or severe overload (250% rise in RV pressure; n = 4). The RV free wall was divided into three segments within a midventricular plane, and circumferential myocardial strain was calculated for each segment, the septum, and the left ventricle. Chamber volumes were calculated from stacked MRI images, and RA mechanics were characterized by calculating the RA reservoir, conduit, and pump contribution to RV filling. With mild RV overload, there were no changes in RV strain or RA function. With severe RV overload, RV circumferential strain diminished by 62% anterior (P = 0.04), 42% inferior (P = 0.03), and 50% in the septum (P = 0.02), with no change in the left ventricle (P = 0.12). RV filling became more dependent on RA conduit function, which increased from 30 ± 9 to 43 ± 13% (P = 0.01), than on RA reservoir function, which decreased from 47 ± 6 to 33 ± 4% (P = 0.04), with no change in RA pump function (P = 0.94). RA and RV volumes and RV ejection fraction were unchanged from baseline during either mild (P > 0.10) or severe RV pressure overload (P > 0.53). In response to severe RV pressure overload, RV myocardial strain is segmentally diminished and RV filling becomes more dependent on RA conduit rather than reservoir function. These compensatory mechanisms of the right heart occur early in chronic RV pressure overload before chamber dilation develops.  相似文献

The understanding of the pathophysiology of female sexual dysfunction suffers from the lack of a convenient model for the study of female genital sexual response. In this study, systemic arterial blood pressure (BP) as well as partial oxygen tension, temperature, and blood engorgement of the vagina [using laser-Doppler flowmetry in arbitrary units (AU)] were measured in anesthetized, ovariectomized (1 wk before the start of the experiment) female rats. Vaginal sexual arousal was replicated by electrical stimulation of the pelvic nerve (PNS). PNS induced reproducible increases in the different vaginal parameters (from baseline value, respectively: 16 +/- 10 to 30 +/- 12 mmHg; 34.9 +/- 0.6 to 36 +/- 0.6 degrees C; 450 +/- 196 to 1,500 +/- 360 AU; P < 0.05, paired t-test) and BP (90 +/- 7 to 123 +/- 13 mmHg, P < 0.05, paired t-test). Vaginal vascular resistance was significantly decreased during PNS (from 0.23 +/- 0.15 to 0.08 +/- 0.02 mmHg/AU). Vaginal wall tension was also measured with a force transducer. PNS induced an increase in vaginal wall tension (1.0 +/- 0.2 g), followed by a decrease under the prestimulation value. Intravenous atropine sulfate (1 mg/kg) injection abolished the increase in vaginal wall tension without significantly affecting vaginal vascular resistance. Intravenous vercuronium bromide (2 mg/kg) injection abolished the decrease in vaginal wall tension. Concomitant electrical stimulation of the paravertebral sympathetic chain inhibited vaginal response induced by PNS. Electrical stimulation of the medial preoptic area of the hypothalamus induced a response qualitatively equivalent to PNS with a significant decrease of vaginal vascular resistance. These data support that vaginal contractions involve both smooth and striated muscles and indicate that neural control of vaginal sexual arousal have great similarities in male and female rats.  相似文献

Lessonia nigrescens and L. trabeculata are economically important canopy-forming kelps in Chile. Experimental harvesting of stipes above the first dichotomy reduces stipe movement and inter-stipe friction, allowing the development of a heavy epiphytic load and increased grazing. Complete stipe removal leads to holdfast death as neither species is able to simultaneously regenerate all stipes. The invertebrate fauna inside the holdfast does not respond to upper canopy changes, but mortality does occur in partial or complete plant removals. Kelp removal also affects inter-plant distances, results in increased access of grazers to the outside and inside of kelp holdfasts, reduces recruitment of other algal species, and modifies the morphology of L. trabeculata such that the plants become more susceptible to removal by water movement.  相似文献

The magnitude of gut adaptation is a decisive factor in determining whether patients are able to live independent of parenteral nutrition after massive small bowel loss. We previously established that the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor (CDKI) p21(waf1/cip1) is necessary for enterocyte proliferation and a normal adaptation response. In the present study, we have further elucidated the role of this CDKI in the context of p27(kip1), another member of the Cip/Kip CDKI family. Small bowel resections (SBRs) or sham operations were performed in control (C57/BL6), p21(waf1/cip1)-null, p27(kip1)-null, and p21(waf1/cip1)/p27(kip1) double-null mice. Morphological (villus height/crypt depth) alterations in the mucosa, the kinetics of enterocyte turnover (rates of enterocyte proliferation and apoptosis), and the protein expression of various cell cycle-regulatory proteins were recorded at various postoperative times. Enterocyte compartment-specific mRNA expression was investigated using laser capture microdissection. Resection-induced adaptation in control mice coincided with increased protein expression of p21(waf1/cip1) and decreased p27(kip1) within 3 days postoperatively. Identical changes in mRNA expression were detected in crypt but not in villus enterocytes. Adaptation occurred normally in control and p27(kip1)-null mice; however, mice deficient in both p21(waf1/cip1) and p27(kip1) failed to increase baseline rates of enterocyte proliferation and adaptation. The expression of p21(waf1/cip1) protein and mRNA in the proliferative crypt compartment is necessary for resection-induced enterocyte proliferation and adaptation. The finding that deficient expression of p27(kip1) does not affect adaptation suggests that these similar CDKI family members display distinctive cellular functions during the complex process of intestinal adaptation.  相似文献
