Plants of four isolines of soyabean [Glycine max(L.) Merrill]‘Clark’, viz‘L71-920’ (maturity genecomplemente1e2e3 ), ‘L80-5914’ (E1e2e3), ‘Clark’(e1E2E3), and ‘L65-3366’ (E1E2E3), were grown inshort (12.25 h d - 1natural light) and long days (12.25 h d- 1natural light supplemented with 2.75 h d - 1low-irradianceartificial light) from first flowering to maturity in a polythenetunnel maintained at 30/24°C (day/night). Whereas therewere few differences among the isolines grown in short days,in long days the dominant alleles increased crop duration, biomassand seed yield substantially. Increases in biological and economicyield were not solely a consequence of longer crop duration:the dominant alleles also increased crop growth rate and radiationuse efficiency in long days (from 1.3 g MJ - 1total radiationine1e2e3 to 2.8 g MJ - 1inE1E2E3 ). Greater radiation use efficiencyresulted from a relatively longer leaf area duration, betterdistribution and orientation of a larger mass of leaves withinthe canopy, and smaller partitioning of assimilates to reproductivestructures. The work reveals the substantial effects of thethree lociE1 / e1, E2/ e2and E3/e3 on the response of plantgrowth, as well as development, to environment. The binding of cadmium to the calcium binding subunit of skeletal troponin (STnC) has been reinvestigated using direct binding methods and fluorescent derivatives. These data provide straightforward explanations of the observed titration behavior in the 113Cd NMR (Ellis, P.D., Strang, P., and Potter, J.D. (1984) J. Biol. Chem. 259, 10348-10356). Further, fluorescent derivatives of skeletal troponin C provide an excellent means of establishing a sequence assignment for the resonances observed in the 113Cd NMR. The results of these experiments demonstrate that sites I and II, the Ca2+ regulatory sites, can be assigned to resonances at -108.5 and -101.5 ppm, respectively. Sites III and IV, the structural sites, are assigned to resonances -112.8 and -106.8 ppm, respectively. These data are discussed in terms of recent structural findings and speculations.  相似文献

Two varieties of grain sorghum were harvested at 10 intervals from 35–189 days post planting. Leaf, stem and head portions were separated before being prepared for chemical analysis or ensiled for 30 days in 1-1 silos with or without preservatives. The taller variety (FS-1b) accumulated 60% more dry matter than ORO-T with advancing plant maturity, while whole plant crude protein content decreased from near 20 to less than 7% for both varieties. Dry matter ensiling loss (DMEL) was different (P < 0.05) for each plant portion, but was lower and less variable after the 77-day harvest. Immature leaves and heads resulted in the greatest average DMEL of 31 and 24%, respectively. Propionic acid decreased DMEL, while an ammonia solution was ineffective when compared to control leaf, stem and heads. The DMEL of leaves was influenced (P < 0.05) by a varietal × modulus of fineness interaction while the stem exhibited an interaction with plant maturity × modulus of fineness. Modulus of fineness was not associated with levels of organic acid production in silages, but plant maturity significantly influenced acetic, propionic and butyric acid production in heads. These data indicated that numerous combinations of silage preservation techniques affected DMEL of sorghum plant portions at different maturities.  相似文献

Limited evidence suggests that dairy whey protein may be the major dairy component that is responsible for health benefits currently associated with increased dairy consumption. Whey proteins may reduce blood pressure and improve cardiovascular health. This study evaluated the effects of whey protein supplementation on blood pressure, vascular function and inflammatory markers compared to casein and glucose (control) supplementation in overweight/obese individuals. The subjects were randomized to either whey protein, casein or glucose supplementation for 12 weeks according to a parallel design. In all, 70 men and women with a mean (±s.e.m.) BMI (kg/m2) of 31.3 ± 0.8 completed the study. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) decreased significantly at week 6 compared to baseline in the whey and casein groups, (P = 0.028 and P = 0.020, respectively) and at week 12 (P = 0.020, and P = 0.017, respectively). Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) decreased significantly compared to baseline in the whey and casein groups (P = 0.038 and P = 0.042, respectively) at week 12. DBP decreased significantly in the whey and casein groups (P = 0.025, P = 0.038, respectively) at week 12 compared to the control group. Augmentation index (AI) was significantly lower from baseline at 12 weeks (P = 0.021) in the whey group. AI decreased significantly in the whey group at 12 weeks compared to control (P = 0.006) and casein (P = 0.006). There were no significant changes in inflammatory markers within or between groups. This study demonstrated that supplementation with whey protein improves blood pressure and vascular function in overweight and obese individuals.  相似文献

phi6 bacteriophage from Pseudomonas phaseolicola has a pleomorphic shape due to an outer layer of lipid. This layer was removed with organic solvents or sodium dodecyl sulfate revealing a 50-nm cubic particle.
