Summary Skins from back and tail were dissected from tadpoles of Rana japonica prior to resorption of the tail and separated into epidermis and dermis by treatment with neutral protease. Homotypically and heterotypically recombined skins were constructed from the separated epidermis and dermis and transplanted into the tail of the original tadpole. Skin grafts using dermis from tail region degenerated simultaneously with resorption of the tail. However, skin grafts containing dermis from back region survived on the posterior part of the juvenile frog beyond metamorphosis. Furthermore, all epidermis underlaid with dermis from back region formed secretory glands and became flattened epithelia characteristic of adult back skin, regardless of region from which the epidermis came. Even when epidermis isolated from tail skin was cultured inside a back skin graft, the tail epidermis survived forming an epithelial cyst and developed secretory glands. These results suggest that regional specificities of anuran larval skin, i.e., development of back skin and even histolysis of tail skin, are determined by regionally specific dermis. The results also suggest that some of epidermal cells of tail skin are able to differentiate into epithelial cells similar to back skin of the adult under the influence of back dermis. 相似文献

Cellulose- and xylan-degrading enzymes of Trichoderma reesei QM 9414 induced by, sophorose, xylobiose, cellulose and xylan were analyzed by isoelectric focusing. The sophorose-induced enzyme system contained two types of endo-1,4--glucanases (EC 3.2.1.4), one specific for cellulose and the other non-specific, hydrolyzing both cellulose and xylan, and exo-1,4--glucanases (cellobiohydrolases I, EC 3.2.1.91), i.e. all types of glucanases that are produced during growth on cellulose. Specific endo-1,4--xylanases (EC 3.2.1.8) present in the cellulose-containing medium were less abundant in the sophorose-induced enzyme system. Xylobiose and xylan induced only specific endo-1,4--xylanases. It is concluded that syntheses of cellulases and -xylanases in T. reesei QM 9414 are under separate control and that the non-specific endo-1,4--glucanases are constituents of the cellulose-degrading enzyme system. 相似文献

Ustilago violacea specifically parasitizes susceptible members of the Caryophyllaceae. We isolated water-soluble compounds from leaves of Silene alba which promoted hyphal development in the dimorphic pathogen. We also isolated hyphal growth promoting -tocopherol from S. alba. The water-soluble activity, which we term hyphal growth factor, or HGF, separated into four bands with gel filtration chromatography and represented over 40% of the total hyphal growth promoting activity isolated from S. alba. The water-soluble HGF activity may be host-specific and may function as a determinant of the host-parasite specificity between U. violacea and caryophyllaceous host plants.Abbreviations HGF

Five fishes occupy six sea anemone species at Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia.Entacmaea quadricolor harborsP. biaculeatus, A. melanopus andA. akindynos. Adults ofPremnas occur deeper than about 3 m in large, primarily solitary actinians; juveniles may occupy peripheral members ofEntacmaea clones in shallow water. Specimens ofA. melanopus live exclusively in clonal anemones, which are found no deeper than 3 m. Most individuals ofA. akindynos inEntacmaea are juveniles, occurring shallow and deep, in solitary anemones or at the margins of clones. Interspecific as well as intraspecific

Abstract The genetic determinant coding for the P-specific F8 fimbriae was cloned from the chromosome of the Escherichia coli wild-type strain 2980 (O18:K5:H5:F1C, F8). The F8 determinant was further subcloned into the Pst I site of pBR322 and a restriction map was established. In a Southern hybridization experiment identity between the chromosomally encoded F8 determinant of 2980 and its cloned counterpart was demonstrated. The cloned F8 fimbriae and those of the wild type strain consist of a protein subunit of nearly 20 kDa. F8 fimbriated strains were agglutinated by an F8 polyclonal antiserum, caused mannose-resistant hemagglutination and attached to human uroepithelial cells. Polyphenylalanine synthesis with ribosomes and two separated, partially purified elongation factors (EF) was measured in cell-free systems from the archaebacteria Thermoplasma acidophilum and Methanococcus vannielii, in an eukaryotic system from rat liver and an eubacterial one with Escherichia coli ribosomes and factors from Thermus thermophilus. By substitution of heterologous EF-2 or EF-G, respectively, for the homologous factors, ribosome specificity was shown to be restricted to factors from the same kingdom. In contrast, EF-1 from T. thermophilus significantly cooperated with ribosomes from T. acidophilum. 相似文献

Seasonal and geographic relationships, and host pollinator specificities are examined for indications of interdependency in the orchid-euglossine bee interaction. The orchids are dependent on the bees for pollination, and their flowering seasonality corresponds well with peak activity of their pollinators. However, there is little evidence that the bees are dependent on these fragrance hosts. The orchids tap the majority of euglossine species and individuals for pollinator services during any given season, but most of those bee species that temporarily lack orchid fragrance hosts persist in the area, continually emerge from nests, and seek floral fragrance compounds. Pollinator specificity occurs in less than half of the orchids, and host specificity is rare. Geographic distributions of nearly all orchid-pollinator pairs are not mutually inclusive. Moreover, nearly a third of the local male euglossine bee species censused are not pollinators of any fragrance orchids in the area. Local alternative fragrance sources occur. The orchid-male euglossine bee interaction does not appear to represent a mutually obligatory relationship. The orchids may have exploited a preexisting behavioural phenomenon of the bees, and reciprocal evolutionary responses may not have occurred. 相似文献

Summary The concerted action of two flavone-skeleton modifying genes, P and Me, and the alleles of three independently segregating loci g, gl and fg involved in flavone-glycosylation lead to the 33 different flavones so far identified in Silene. The alleles of the different loci involved in flavone-glycosylation control enzymes which differ in substrate specificity, a phenomenon not often described in higher organisms. Twenty-four individual grasshopper specimens representing four Melanoplus spp. contained similar broad-spectrum haemolymphatic haemagglutinin. The agglutinin activity showed highest titre toward human ABO and rabbit cells among nine types of erythrocytes tested. Titre values differed between individual insects but agglutination specificity toward different erythrocytes was similar. Agglutination of type-O red cells by individual grasshopper haemolymph was inhibited by 34 of 41 tested carbohydrates, carbohydrate derivatives, alcohols and chelating agents. Individual insects showed similar patterns of haemagglutination inhibition. Non-inhibitory compounds were mannose and mannose derivatives (excepting N-acetylneuraminate), several glucose derivatives, amino sugars and ethanol. The observations indicated that haemolymph from an individual grasshopper contained complex heteroagglutinin activity similar to that found in haemolymph pooled from several insects. Determination of minimal effective inhibitor concentrations confirmed the presence of heteroagglutinin activity primarily directed toward galactose and glucose and related α-linked glycosidic derivatives. 相似文献
