Habitat edges are landscape structures that have a major influence on animal communities. Bird communities' response to habitat
edges is influenced by the season and habitat characteristics but it is still poorly understood how communities respond to
structural complex (i.e. natural) edges. Inter-seasonal changes in bird species diversity were quantified at a homogeneous,
sharp interface between two habitats that host distinct and well-represented bird communities: a mature broad-leaved forest
and a compact reed-bed area. Resident species diversity was found higher during winter, both in terms of species richness
and evenness. The presence of the reed-bed nesting migrants during the summer season did not notably modify the seasonally
reversed diversity pattern; the overall evenness was higher during the winter season while the overall species richness did
not differ between the two seasons. Thus, contrary to the expected regional seasonal diversity pattern, the forest – reed-bed
interface is, in winter, a local bird diversity hotspot. The possible causes and implications for conservation of this phenomenon

Abundance, depth distribution, potential productivity and respiration of periphyton on short-time (1 month) and long-time
incubated strips were followed monthly during the winter–spring (January–May) transition in a shallow eutrophic lake. A taxonomic
shift occurred from dominance of diatoms under ice to chlorophyte dominance in spring communities on the long-time incubated
strips, while diatoms dominated until May on the short-time incubated strips. Periphyton biomass accrual was low during the
ice-covered winter months (November–January: 4 mg chl a m−2 month−1), but increased to a maximum of 112 mg chl a m−2 month−1 immediately after ice-out in February. During February–April, the biomass remained constant before declining in May. Periphyton
on long-time incubated strips was equally distributed in the water column in winter (January–February), but was higher near
the water surface in spring (March–May). Periphyton did not change with depth on the short-time incubated strips. The potential
production to respiration ratio (P/R) was negatively correlated with periphyton biomass. Throughout the study, P/R was <1
for the short-time incubated periphyton, while this was only the case in March–April for the long-time incubations. This study
showed a high productive capacity of winter periphyton, resulting in accumulation of a relatively high periphytic biomass
early in the season. A massive periphyton density in eutrophic lakes already in winter–spring may potentially delay or prevent
the establishment and re-occurrence of submerged macrophytes in the early oligotrophication phase following a reduction of
the external nutrient loading.

Juveniles of many birds establish dominance hierarchies within family social units, only to leave and compete to acquire dominance
status in new social groups. Little is known about the role of sex, body mass, size or experience during the duckling period
on subsequent dominance rank and adult social relationships. We used captive Mallard Anas platyrhynchos ducklings to test for the role of individual characteristics and growth parameters in establishing within-brood hierarchies,
the maintenance of within-brood hierarchies in the subsequent wintering group and differences in social ranks between broods.
Strong stable linear hierarchies were present within each brood and, later, within each phase of the winter. There was a reorganisation
of the hierarchical order between the duckling period and early winter, but only few modifications afterwards during the winter.
None of the tested “hatching”, “duckling” and “adult” traits explained either the within-brood or the winter hierarchies,
but winter rank was related to brood of origin with ducklings from the same brood having similar social ranks. These differences
between broods were maintained through the whole winter in most cases, though one brood drastically progressed in the hierarchy
during late-winter. These results suggest that the factors affecting the establishment of social relationships within broods
differ from those in winter groups, and that brood-related mechanisms influence social relationships during winter. We discuss

Waterbirds are often observed to move between different wintering sites within the same winter—for example, in response to
food availability or weather conditions. Within-winter movements may contribute to the spreading of diseases, such as avian
influenza, outside the actual migration period. The Common Pochard Aythya ferina seems to be particularly sensitive to infection with the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus H5N1 and, consequently,
could play an important role as vectors for the disease. We describe here the within-winter movements of Pochards in Europe
in relation to topography, climate, sex and age. We analysed data provided by the Euring data bank on 201 individuals for which records from different locations from the same winter (December–February) were available.
The distances and directions moved within the winter varied markedly between regions, which could be ascribed to the differing
topography (coast lines, Alps). We found no significant differences in terms of distances and directions moved between the
sexes and only weak indications of differences between the age classes. In Switzerland, juveniles moved in more westerly directions
than adults. During relatively mild winters, winter harshness had no effect on the distances travelled, but in cold winters,
a positive relationship was observed, a pattern possibly triggered by the freezing of lakes. Winter harshness did not influence
the directions of the movement. About 41% (83/201) of the Pochards that were recovered at least 1 km from the ringing site
had moved more than 200 km. A substantial number of birds moved between central/southern Europe and the north-western coast
of mainland Europe, and between the north-western coast of mainland Europe and Great Britain, whereas no direct exchange between
Great Britain and central/southern Europe was observed. Within-winter movements of Pochards seem to be a common phenomenon
in all years and possibly occur as a response to the depletion of food resources. This high tendency to move could potentially
contribute to the spread of bird-transmitted diseases outside the actual migration period. 相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of root pruning at the stem elongation stage on the growth and water use
efficiency (WUE) of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum). The results showed that stomatal conductance (g) and transpiration (E) of wheat were very sensitive to root pruning. After root pruning, they declined rapidly and but returned to pre-pruning
values 15 days after treatment. Under well-watered conditions, there was no significant difference in leaf water potential
(ψleaf) between root pruned and control plants after root pruning. Under moderate drought stress, ψleaf of root pruned plants declined significantly compared to the control 3 days after root pruning. After 15 days, ψleaf of root pruned plants was similar to the controls. Under different soil moisture levels, net assimilation rate (A) of root pruned plants was lower than controls 3–7 days after root pruning, but was similar to the controls 15 days after
pruning. At anthesis (50 days after root pruning), root pruned plants showed significantly higher A compared with the control. Leaf area per tiller and tiller number of root pruning plants was significant lower than the control
at booting stage, which showed that root pruning restrained the growth of plants in the early growing stage, but leaf area
per stem, of root pruned plants, was similar to the control at anthesis. Under both soil moisture levels, there was no significant
difference in grain yield between root pruned and the control plants in the monoculture. In mixture with the control plants,
the root pruned plants was less productive and had a lower relative yield (0.92 and 0.78, respectively) compared with the
control (1.13 and 1.19, respectively), which suggested that the pruned plants lost some of its competing ability and showed
a lower ability to acquire and use the same resources in the mixture compared with the control plant. Over the whole growing
cycle, root pruning reduced water consumption (by 10% under well-watered conditions and 16% under moderate drought stress)
of wheat significantly compared to the control (P < 0.05), and but there was no significant difference in grain yield between root pruned and control plants. Therefore root
pruned wheat had a higher WUE with respect to grain yield compared with the controls. In conclusion, lowering water consumption
by root pruning in the early growing stage is an effective way to improve water use efficiency in arid and semi arid areas. 相似文献

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most important agricultural crops worldwide. However, water is the most important limiting factor for wheat production. This study was initiated to test water stress environmental effects on grain quality and nutritional value of wheat by using single different water conditions at post-anthesis stage. Further analyses were conducted to examine variations in concentrations and compositions of the bioactive compounds and nutritions in strong-gluten winter wheat subjected to different levels of water deficit during grain filling. For the experiment on the response to different soil water conditions during post-anthesis stage, effects of soil water environment on protein content and composition in the grains were significant. Soil water conditions in this study greatly affected mineral contents in the grains of winter wheat, particularly with regard to the major minerals (P, K, Ca and Mg). Water deficit during grain filling can result in a decrease in lipid contents in wheat grains, which agrees well with experimental findings elsewhere. Concomitantly, a mild water deficit during grain filling would be beneficial to the grain filling and starch compositions, significantly improved bread-making quality. Therefore, it was concluded that good management of wheat field water at post-anthesis stage was helpful to improving grain quality and nutritions relevant to processing and human nutrition. Monogenically-inherited resistance to Soil-borne cereal mosaic virus (SBCMV) in hexaploid bread wheat cultivars ‘Tremie’ and ‘Claire’ was mapped on chromosome 5D. The two closest flanking markers
identified in the Claire-derived mapping population, Xgwm469-5D and E37M49, are linked to the resistance locus at distances of 1 and 9 cm, respectively. Xgwm469-5D co-segregated with the SBCMV resistance in the Tremie-derived population and with the recently identified Sbm1 locus in the cv. Cadenza. This suggested that Tremie and Claire carry a resistance gene allelic to Sbm1, or one closely linked to it. The diagnostic value of Xgwm469-5D was assessed using a collection of SBCMV resistant and susceptible cultivars. Importantly, all susceptible genotypes carried
a null allele of Xgwm469-5D, whereas resistant genotypes presumably related to either Claire and Tremie or Cadenza revealed a 152 or 154 bp allele of

于2001~2003年对河南省主要推广的3个冬小麦 (Triticum aestivum)品种冠温特征、籽粒蛋白质和淀粉组分积累动态进行了研究。结果表明:‘豫麦50’在灌浆后期冠层温度明显降低,表现为冷尾型,而‘豫麦34’、‘豫麦70’冠层温度有上升的趋势,表现为暖尾型 ,在灌浆末期冷尾型与暖尾型小麦冠层温度相差超过2.5 ℃。不同冠温小麦籽粒蛋白质和淀粉组分积累动态表现出差异:暖尾型小麦清蛋白、球蛋白积累量在灌浆后期显著高于冷尾型品种,最终醇溶蛋白积累量品种间差异不显著,麦谷蛋白积累量在花后15 d以前差异不显著,但开花 20 d后暖尾型小麦麦谷蛋白积累量增大,与冷尾型小麦差异达到1%显著水平,最终麦谷蛋白与总蛋白质含量比例亦表现出同样的趋势,麦谷蛋白含量与灌浆中、后期冠层温度和整个灌浆期平均冠层温度均达到显著正相关,相关系数分别为0.7781、0.865、0.968 7;不同冠温型 小麦淀粉组分积累量与直/支差异不大,但淀粉糊化特性表现出明显的差异,除稀懈值外, 暖尾型小麦与冷尾型小麦峰值粘度、低谷粘度、最终粘度、糊化时间、糊化温度和反弹值差异分别达到1%显著水平。 相似文献

应用腹腔注射染毒法,研究不同作用时间下微囊藻毒素-LR(MC-LR)在罗非鱼各组织器官的动态分布。结果表明:除罗非鱼肌肉中MC-LR含量低于检出限(用ND表示未检出)外,罗非鱼肝脏、血清、胆囊、鳃、肠道都有MC-LR检出;且各组织器官MC-LR残留量的分布有明显的区别,其中以肝脏中残留量的平均值为最高,其变化区间为0.902~4.938mg·kg-1,血清、胆囊、鳃、肠道的MC-LR残留量变化区间分别为ND~0.390mg·L-1、ND~0.236mg·kg-1、0.0134~0.0369mg·kg-1、0.007~0.016mg·kg-1;染毒后84h,罗非鱼肝脏、鳃、血清、胆囊中的MC-LR残留量都显著降低,且血清和胆囊中的MC-LR含量低于检出限,表明罗非鱼对MC-LR具有很强的解毒机能;染毒后36h,胆囊和肝脏中的MC-LR残留量骤然下降,由此推测胆囊和肝脏可能是罗非鱼对MC-LR的主要解毒器官;试验期间,肌肉中MC-LR含量始终低于检出限,表明低剂量的MC摄入不会在罗非鱼肌肉中造成明显的残留。 相似文献

用秩次分析法,对6个年度参加河北省冬麦区中北部区域试验中的冬小麦新品系产量性状的稳定性进行评价。通过对各品种表现秩次值H2、环境区分指数YM、秩次均方值S^2等统计数的计算,进行品种间产量的高低度稳定性比较。对22个可评价参试品种给予客观公正的评价,因此证明秩次分析法对作物新种质品比试验中产量性能的评价是一种实用、可行的数据处理方法。 相似文献
