Upwind orientation flights of codling moth males Cydia pomonella L. to a single source of sex pheromone (E,E)‐8,10‐dodecadienol (codlemone) are significantly reduced when blending it with pheromone antagonists, either with codlemone acetate, (E,E)‐8,10‐dodecadienyl acetate, or with the codlemone isomer (E,Z)‐8,10‐dodecadienol. However, once activated by a pheromone stimulus, males no longer distinguish between a pheromone source and these antagonistic blend sources. This shows that the pheromone stimulus required for the initiation of an upwind flight response differs from the stimulus for maintaining upwind flight and landing at the source. In contrast to pheromone antagonists, males discriminate between pheromone alone and a blend source of pheromone and the plant volatile pear ester, ethyl (2E,4Z)‐2,4‐decadienoate. This indicates a difference in the detection and neural integration of pheromone and plant volatile stimuli.  相似文献

Lutzomyia longipalpis (Diptera: Psychodidae) is the primary vector of Leishmania infantum (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae) in the Americas. Studies have been carried out to identify new alternatives for monitoring and controlling this sandfly species, particularly with the use of chemical baits. The attractiveness of odours emitted by foxes and alcohols found in some plants has already been demonstrated in laboratory tests with Lu. longipalpis. However, no studies have evaluated the responses of these insects to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by dogs. The present study was carried out to investigate the effects on Lu. longipalpis of individual and blends of VOCs identified in hair from dogs infected with L. infantum. Effects in male and female Lu. longipalpis were assessed using wind tunnel methodology. Individual compounds including octanal, nonanal, decanal and heptadecane showed capacity for activating and/or attracting male Lu. longipalpis. Only decanal and nonanal showed effects on females. The combination of octanal, decanal and heptadecane increased activation and attraction behaviour in male sandflies, as did the blend of octanal and decanal. These findings indicate that VOCs emitted by dogs may be an interesting source of new attractants of sandflies.  相似文献

Aqueous sodium‐ion batteries have shown desired properties of high safety characteristics and low‐cost for large‐scale energy storage applications such as smart grid, because of the abundant sodium resources as well as the inherently safer aqueous electrolytes. Among various Na insertion electrode materials, tunnel‐type Na0.44MnO2 has been widely investigated as a positive electrode for aqueous sodium‐ion batteries. However, the low achievable capacity hinders its practical applications. Here, a novel sodium rich tunnel‐type positive material with a nominal composition of Na0.66[Mn0.66Ti0.34]O2 is reported. The tunnel‐type structure of Na0.44MnO2 obtained for this compound is confirmed by X‐ray diffraction and atomic‐scale spherical aberration‐corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy/electron energy‐loss spectrum. When cycled as positive electrode in full cells using NaTi2(PO4)3/C as negative electrode in 1 m Na2SO4 aqueous electrolyte, this material shows the highest capacity of 76 mAh g?1 among the Na insertion oxides with an average operating voltage of 1.2 V at a current rate of 2 C. These results demonstrate that Na0.66[Mn0.66Ti0.34]O2 is a promising positive electrode material for rechargeable aqueous sodium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Recent studies have shown that flies from sympatric populationsof Rhagoletis pomonella infesting hawthorn, apple, and floweringdogwood fruit can distinguish among unique volatile blends identifiedfrom each host. Analysis of peripheral chemoreception in Rhagoletisflies suggests that changes in receptor specificity and/or receptorneuron sensitivity could impact olfactory preference among thehost populations and their hybrids. In an attempt to validatethese claims, we have combined flight tunnel analyses and singlesensillum electrophysiology in F2 and backcross hybrids displayinga variety of behavioral phenotypes. Results show that differencesin peripheral chemoreception among second-generation adultsdo not provide a direct correlation between peripheral codingand olfactory behavior. We conclude that either the plasticityof the central nervous system in Rhagoletis can compensate forsignificant alterations in peripheral coding or that peripheralchanges present subtle effects on behavior not easily detectablewith current techniques. The results of this study imply thatthe basis for olfactory behavior in Rhagoletis has a complicatedgenetic and neuronal basis, even for populations with a recentdivergence in preference.  相似文献

Cory’s Shearwater, Calonectris diomedea, is a pelagic seabird that winters in the waters off the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. Elsewhere, its diet is comprised mostly of fish and cephalopods, but dietary details out of the breeding season are unknown. The present study analysed the diet of Cory’s Shearwater along the coast of Rio Grande do Sul based on the stomach contents of 185 birds found dead during beach surveys between July 1997 and July 1998. Food items were classified taxonomically and non-food items were categorized. The taxa identified included the cephalopods Argonauta nodosa and Histioteuthis sp. and the fish Paralonchurus brasiliensis, Porichthys porosissimus, and Prionotus punctatus. Cephalopods were present in 97% of stomachs and fish in 33% of stomachs. Synthetic materials were found in 81% of stomachs. Our data corroborate the general ideas of Procellariiform diet during migration. The high amount of synthetic materials indicates the pollution of the marine environments of southern Brazil and we call attention to this situation.  相似文献

Drug resistance significantly impairs the efficacy of AIDS therapy. Therefore, precise prediction of resistant viral mutants is particularly useful for developing effective drugs and designing therapeutic regimen. In this study, we applied a structure-based computational approach to predict mutants of the HIV-1 protease resistant to the seven FDA approved drugs. We analyzed the energetic pattern of the protease-drug interaction by calculating the molecular interaction energy components (MIECs) between the drug and the protease residues. Support vector machines (SVMs) were trained on MIECs to classify protease mutants into resistant and nonresistant categories. The high prediction accuracies for the test sets of cross-validations suggested that the MIECs successfully characterized the interaction interface between drugs and the HIV-1 protease. We conducted a proof-of-concept study on a newly approved drug, darunavir (TMC114), on which no drug resistance data were available in the public domain. Compared with amprenavir, our analysis suggested that darunavir might be more potent to combat drug resistance. To quantitatively estimate binding affinities of drugs and study the contributions of protease residues to causing resistance, linear regression models were trained on MIECs using partial least squares (PLS). The MIEC-PLS models also achieved satisfactory prediction accuracy. Analysis of the fitting coefficients of MIECs in the regression model revealed the important resistance mutations and shed light into understanding the mechanisms of these mutations to cause resistance. Our study demonstrated the advantages of characterizing the protease-drug interaction using MIECs. We believe that MIEC-SVM and MIEC-PLS can help design new agents or combination of therapeutic regimens to counter HIV-1 protease resistant strains.  相似文献

Background, aim, and scope  This paper compares the life cycle assessment (LCA) of two packaging alternatives used for baby food produced by Nestlé: plastic pot and glass jar. The study considers the environmental impacts associated with packaging systems used to provide one baby food meal in France, Spain, and Germany in 2007. In addition, alternate logistical scenarios are considered which are independent of the two packaging options. The 200-g packaging size is selected as the basis for this study. Two other packaging sizes are assessed in the sensitivity analysis. Because results are intended to be disclosed to the public, this study underwent a critical review by an external panel of LCA experts. Materials and methods  The LCA is performed in accordance to the international standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. The packaging systems include the packaging production, the product assembly, the preservation process, the distribution, and the packaging end-of-life. The production of the content (before preservation process), as well as the use phase are not taken into account as they are considered not to change when changing packaging. The inventory is based on data obtained from the baby food producer and the suppliers, data from the scientific literature, and data from the ecoinvent database. Special care is taken to implement a system expansion approach for end-of-life open and closed loop recycling and energy production (ISO 14044). A comprehensive impact assessment is performed using two life cycle impact assessment methodologies: IMPACT 2002+ and CML 2001. An extensive uncertainty analysis using Monte Carlo as well as an extensive sensitivity study are performed on the inventory and the reference flows, respectively. Results  When looking at the impacts due to preservation process and packaging (considering identical distribution distances), we observe a small but significant environmental benefit of the plastic pot system over the glass jar system. Depending on the country, the impact is reduced by 14% to 27% for primary energy, 28% to 31% for global warming, 31% to 34% for respiratory inorganics, and 28% to 31% for terrestrial acidification/nutrification. The environmental benefit associated with the change in packaging mainly results from (a) production of plastic pot (including its end-of-life; 43% to 51% of total benefit), (b) lighter weight of packaging positively impacting transportation (20% to 35% of total benefit), and (c) new preservation process permitted by the plastic system (23% to 34% of total benefit). The jar or pot (including cap or lid, cluster, stretch film, and label) represents approximately half of the life cycle impacts, the logistics approximately one fourth, and the rest (especially on-site energy, tray, and hood) one fourth. Discussion  The sensitivity analysis shows that assumptions made in the basic scenarios are rather conservative for plastic pots and that the conclusions for the 200-g packaging size also apply to other packaging sizes. The uncertainty analysis performed on the inventory for the German market situation shows that the plastic pot system has less impact than the glass jar system while considering similar distribution distances with a confidence level above 97% for most impact categories. There is opportunity for further improvement independent of the type of packaging used, such as by reducing distribution distances while still optimizing lot size. The validity of the main conclusions presented in this study is confirmed by results of both impact assessment methodologies IMPACT 2002+ and CML 2001. Conclusions  For identical transportation distances, the plastic pot system shows a small but significant reduction in environmental burden compared to the glass jar system. Recommendations and perspectives  As food distribution plays an important role in the overall life cycle burdens and may vary between scenarios, it is important to avoid additional transportation of the packaged food in order to maintain or even improve the advantage of the plastic pot system. The present study focuses on the comparison of packaging systems and directly related consequences. It is recommended that further environmental optimization of the product also includes food manufacturing (before preservation process) and the supply chain of raw materials.  相似文献

人工合成的甜菜夜蛾性信息素两组分(顺,反)-9,12-十四碳二烯醇醋酸酯(Z9,E12-14:Ac)和(顺)-9-十四碳烯醇(Z9-14:OH)按不同配比制成诱芯,在风洞中均能引起雄蛾搜索气迹、定向飞行及接近诱芯的行为反应.不同配比和剂量的诱芯诱虫效果差异显著(p<0.05).Z9,E12-14:Ac和Z9-14:OH按7:3配比,诱虫活性最高,表现在风洞中,搜索气迹、定向飞行和接近诱芯的蛾数最高,与处女蛾的引诱效果相当.以此配比制成的性诱剂在田间诱捕的虫量最多,与风洞的试验结果基本一致.诱芯剂量在0.05~0.5mg范围内均有显著的诱虫效果,但剂量过低或过高均导致诱捕率下降.同一配比诱芯在风洞中引起雄蛾接近诱芯的蛾量与田间诱蛾量呈显著相关(R1=0.968,R2=0.961).并对这些结果在甜菜夜蛾田间性诱剂防治应用的前景进行了讨论.  相似文献
