We investigated the effect of prohydrojasmon [propyl (1RS,2RS)‐(3‐oxo‐ 2‐pentylcyclopentyl) acetate] (PDJ) treatment of intact corn plants, on their attractiveness to the specialist endoparasitoid, Cotesia kariyai Watanabe (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), and on the performance of the common armyworm, Mythimna separata (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) under laboratory conditions. Attractiveness of C. kariyai to PDJ‐treated plants was studied in a wind tunnel, whereas performance of M. separata larvae was tested in plastic cages. The attractiveness of the treated plants increased with concentrations of PDJ increasing to 2 mm , which was equivalent to the attractiveness of host‐infested plants. PDJ‐treated corn plants emitted 16 volatile compounds (α‐pinene, β‐myrcene, (Z)‐3‐hexenyl acetate, limonene, (E)‐β‐ocimene, linalool, (E)‐4,8‐dimethyl‐1,3,7‐nonatriene, (+)‐cyclosativene, ylangene, (E)‐β‐farnesene, (E, E)‐4,8,12‐trimethyl‐1,3,7,11‐tridecatetraene, α‐bergamotene, γ‐cadinene, δ‐cadinene, α‐muulolene and nerolidol), most of which were observed in the headspace of host‐infested corn plants with some quantitative and qualitative differences. We also tested the effects of PDJ treatment on the performance of M. separata larvae. The survival rates of the larval and pupal stages were significantly lower at 2 mm level of PDJ. A significant decrease in weight at 6th stadium larvae was observed only at 2 mm level of PDJ. In contrast, PDJ treatment at all PDJ concentration levels caused significant reduction in weight of pupal stage as compared to control. These data suggested that PDJ, originally developed as a plant growth regulator, especially to induce coloring of fruits, has the potential to induce direct and indirect defenses in corn plants against common armyworm, M. separata.  相似文献

Subterranean termites excavate branching tunnels for searching and transporting food in soil. Experimentally, the length distribution of the branch tunnels, P(L), was characterized by the exponentially decaying function, P(L)  exp(−L) with a branch length exponent of  = 0.15. To evaluate the significance of this value, we used a lattice model to simulate tunnels of the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki in featureless soil and computed the ratio of energy gain for obtained food to loss for transporting food for a given time, γ for various simulated tunnel patterns with the different values of . In simulation, the γ was maximized at 0.15 <  < 0.20 for the number of primary tunnels N = 6, 8, and 10. Our results indicate that tunnels with branch length distributions similar to those derived from empirical tunnel patterns result in tunnels made up of highly efficient paths to search and transport resources.  相似文献

目的:探讨采用肌电图检查评估腕管综合征的手术治疗效果。方法:选取35例(患侧手共39侧)临床确诊为腕管综合征并接受腕管切开减压术治疗的患者,于手术前后分别行肌电图检查,应用正中神经传导检查和拇短展肌针极肌电图检查,分析患者手术前和手术后腕部正中神经功能的变化情况。结果:手术后,患者正中神经感觉传导潜伏期异常率(33%)、正中神经运动传导潜伏期异常率(36%)较手术前(72%、74%)明显下降(P0.05),正中神经感觉传导波幅(7.40±5.05)较手术前(4.86±3.60)显著降低(P0.001),拇短展肌静息状态下失神经电位的异常率(69%)、重收缩时募集电位异常率(13%)均较手术前(85%、26%)明显下降(P0.05)。患者手术前后正中神经感觉传导速度和运动传导速度对比差异无统计学意义(P0.05)。结论:腕管切开减压术可解除正中神经卡压状态,明显恢复正中神经功能,增强拇短展肌肌力,临床治疗效果好。肌电图检查可为腕管综合征患者手术治疗效果的评估提供客观的依据。  相似文献

The γ-carotenoids, such as myxol and saproxanthin, have a high potential to be utilized in nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries for their neuro-protective and antioxidant effects. CrtD is involved in the production of γ-carotenoids by desaturating the C3′–C4′ position of 1′-OH-γ-carotenoid. We determined the crystal structure of CrtD from Nonlabens dokdonensis DSW-6 (NdCrtD), the first structure of CrtD family enzymes. The NdCrtD structure was composed of two distinct domains, an FAD-binding domain and a substrate-binding domain, and the substrate-binding domain can be divided into two subdomains, a Rossmann fold-like subdomain and a lid subdomain. Although the FAD-binding domain showed a structure similar to canonical FAD-containing enzymes, the substrate-binding domain exhibited a novel structure to constitute a long and hydrophobic tunnel with a length of ∼40 Å. The molecular docking-simulation reveals that the tunnel provides an appropriate substrate-binding site for the carotenoid such as 1′-OH-γ-carotene with a length of ∼35 Å. We could predict residues related to recognize the 1′-hydroxyl group and to stabilize the hydrophobic end without hydroxyl group. Moreover, we suggest that the flexible entrance loop may undergo an open–closed formational change during the binding of the substrate.  相似文献

A swim tunnel is to fish as a treadmill is to humans, and is a device used for indirect measuring of the metabolic rate. This study aims to explore the fish stress (if any) during the critical swimming test routines (fish handling, confinement, and swimming) using heart rate (fH, heartbeat per minute) bio-loggers in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.). In addition, the recovery dynamics of exercised fish using fH were explored for 48 h post swim tests. Continuous fH data were acquired following the surgical implantation and throughout the trials, such as during fish handling, swim tests (critical swimming speed, Ucrit), and 48 h post swim tests. After 3 weeks of surgical recovery, fH stabilized at 46.20 ± 1.26 beats min−1, equalizing a ~38% reduction in fH recorded post-surgical tachycardia (74.13 ± 1.44 beats min−1). Interestingly, fH was elevated by ~200% compared to baseline levels not only due to the Ucrit (92.04 ± 0.23 beats min−1) but also due to fish handling and confinement in the swim tunnel, which was 66% above the baseline levels (77.48 ± 0.34 beats min−1), suggesting fish stress. Moreover, significantly higher plasma cortisol levels (199.56 ± 77.17 ng mL−1) corresponding to a ~300% increase compared to baseline levels (47.92 ± 27.70 ng mL−1) were identified after Ucrit, predicting post-swim test stress (physiological exhaustion). These findings reinforce the importance of fish acclimation in the swim tunnel prior to the swimming tests. However, fH dropped over the course of the 48-h post-swim test, but remained comparatively higher than the basal levels, suggesting fish should be given at least 48 h to recover from handling stress for better fish welfare. This study further explored the influence of fish tagging on Ucrit, which resulted in reduced swimming capabilities of tagged fish (1.95 ± 0.37 body lengths s−1) compared to untagged fish (2.54 ± 0.42 body length s−1), although this was not significant (p = 0.06), and therefore future tagging studies are warranted.  相似文献

In many herbivorous insects, the attraction to suitable host plants is in part mediated by similar olfactory cues from different host plants. This study investigated the electrophysiological and behavioral responses of female Maruca vitrata Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) to floral volatiles from two host plants, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walpers and Lablab purpureus (L.) Sweet (both Fabaceae). Qualitative and quantitative differences were found between the odor profiles of two host plants by gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry (GC‐MS). Nine electroantennography‐active compounds were detected in the headspace collections of the two host plants by means of coupled GC‐electroantennographic detection. In a wind tunnel, female behaviors (upwind flight and source approach) were not affected by stimuli or their interaction with host plants, but the behaviors were influenced by host plants. A mixture of the nine bioactive compounds, including limonene, 1,3‐diethylbenzene, benzaldehyde, acetophenone, 4‐ethylbenzaldehyde, 1‐(4‐ethylphenyl)‐ethanone, 2‐methyl‐3‐phenylpropanal, 1H‐indol‐4‐ol, and 1,1′‐(1,4‐phenylene)bis‐ethanone mimicking L. purpureus (in a ratio of 0.4:9.7:2.4:5.7:78.1:4.8:100:0.6:30.3) attracted significantly more females approaching the sources compared with the mixture of compounds mimicking V. unguiculata (in a ratio of 0.3:1.4:1.6:3.7:50.8:3.2:100:4.2:16.7). Further bioassays revealed that a subtractive 4‐component blend [limonene, 1,3‐diethylbenzene, 4‐ethylbenzaldehyde, and 1‐(4‐ethylphenyl)‐ethanone in a ratio of 0.4:9.7:78.1:4.8] was essential for maximal attraction. Our study suggested that female M. vitrata might use similar odors from V. unguiculata and L. purpureus to locate suitable hosts and that an artificial lure, containing the major floral volatiles released by the two host plants, might be useful in exploring efficiency monitoring and/or control strategies of this moth in the field.  相似文献

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a clinical disorder resulting from the compression of the median nerve. The available evidence regarding the association between computer use and CTS is controversial. There is some evidence that computer mouse or keyboard work, or both are associated with the development of CTS. Despite the availability of pressure measurements in the carpal tunnel during computer work (exposure to keyboard or mouse) there are no available data to support a direct effect of the increased intracarpal canal pressure on the median nerve.  相似文献

The plastic changes in the auditory cortex induced by a fear conditioning, through pairing a sound (CS) with an electric foot-shock (US), were investigated using an optical recording method with voltage sensitive dye, RH795. In order to investigate the effects of association learning, optical signals in the auditory cortex in response to CS (12 kHz pure tone) and non-CS (4, 8, 16 kHz pure tone) were recorded before and after normal and sham conditioning. As a result, the response area to CS enlarged only in the conditioning group after the conditioning. Additionally, the rise time constant of the auditory response to CS significantly decreased and the relative peak value and the decay time constant of the auditory response to CS significantly increased after the conditioning. This study introduces an optical approach to the investigation of fear conditioning, representational plasticity, and the cholinergic system. The findings are synthesized in a model of the synaptic mechanisms that underlie cortical plasticity.  相似文献

The swimming capacity of Barbus bocagei was measured with the critical swimming speed (Ucrit) standard test in a modified Bla?ka‐type swim tunnel. Sixty B. bocagei were tested and they exhibited a mean ±s .d . Ucrit of 0·81 ± 0·11 m s?1 or 3·1 ± 0·86 total lengths per second (LT s?1). Sex had no effect on Ucrit but significant differences were found between the swimming performance of fish with distinct sizes.  相似文献
