This study examined the distribution pattern of aquaporin-2 (AQP2), relative medullary thickness (RMT) and urine properties
in the bottlenose dolphin Tursiops
truncatus and Baird’s beaked whale Berardius bairdii. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that AQP2 was localized in the collecting tubules/ducts of both species’ renicules,
as in terrestrial mammals. The collecting ducts with AQP2 were thinner and arranged more densely in the dolphin than in the
whale. RMT values in the renicule were moderate in both species, but were significantly higher in the dolphin (6.0 ± 0.9)
than the whale (4.9 ± 0.7). Urine of the bottlenose dolphin is comparatively concentrated (osmolality: 1715.7 ± 279.4 mOsm kg−1, Na+: 490.1 ± 87.9 mmol l−1, Cl−: 402.7 ± 79.6 mmol l−1, K+: 80.7 ± 25.8 mmol l−1, urea nitrogen: 703.5 ± 253.9 mmol l−1), while urine of the dead Baird’s beaked whale is less concentrated (osmolality: 837.5 ± 293.8 mOsm kg−1, Na+: 192.9 ± 81.5 mmol l−1, Cl−: 159.9 ± 71.4 mmol l−1, K+: 44.3 ± 29.5 mmol l−1, urea nitrogen: 270.7 ± 120.3 mmol l−1). These data suggest it is possible that the differences in these renal morphological features may be related in some way
to the difference in urine composition between the species, although further studies are necessary.

Marine vertebrate strandings data can provide insights into the long-term dynamics of cetacean populations, and the threats
they face. We investigate whether the spatio-temporal patterns of cetacean strandings around Cornwall, SW Britain, have changed
in the past century. Analysis of strandings from 1911 to 2006 (n = 2,257) show that, since the mid-1970s, the relative frequency of strandings of common dolphins (Delphinus delphis), harbour porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) and pilot whales (Globicephala melas) has increased significantly. Seasonal peaks in strandings frequencies are apparent, between December and March for harbour
porpoises and common dolphins, and between November and January for pilot whales. There were significant positive trends in
the number of common dolphin and harbour porpoise strandings, as a proportion of total strandings, over time. Strandings of
common dolphins, porpoises and all other species occur more frequently on the south coast of Cornwall. A total of 415 cetaceans
were subject to full veterinary necropsy to determine cause of death, between 1990 and 2006, and 253 (61%) of these individuals
were determined to have died due to bycatch in fishing gear. Analyses of industrialised fishing pressure in UK waters show
the seas around Cornwall to be one of the most heavily fished areas of the UK. We suggest a number of factors that could be
responsible for the recent increases in cetacean strandings in southwest UK waters in recent years, including survey effort,
as well as abundance and range shifts that are potentially linked with climate change. Although detectable levels of bycatch
rate have not increased over time, fisheries interactions are in significant part responsible for mortality patterns and are
worthy of more detailed investigation.

香港早在19世纪中叶开始就有外来植物入侵的记录,迄今为止,已发现多达238种已归化的外来或怀疑为外来的植物,其中又以薇甘菊(Mikania micrantha)、五爪金龙(Ipomoea cairica)、假臭草(Eupatorium catarium)、大黍(Panicum maximum)等最常见,外来植物最常见于受人为干扰的生境,例如荒废农田及路旁等,而较少在天然林地生境及贫瘠的灌草丛中发现,外来植物的对本地生态系统的影响主要局限于低地生境,它们常形成单优种群,减少了生境及贫瘠的灌草丛中发现,外来植物对本地生态系统的影响主要局限于低地生境,它们常形成单优种群,减少少了生境及动植物的多样性,外来动物对香港原生植物影响最大的是于20世纪70年代入侵的松树线虫(Bur-saphelenchus xylophilus)。外来的脊椎动物也有可能对香港的植物被演替产生影响,目前香港的外来植物当中,有些在大陆较少分布或没有记录,作为华南最大的港口,香港对外来物种的引入扮演着重要的角色,因此制定控制外来种在香港及华南地区的引入及传播的政策及措施非常重要。 相似文献

An investigation of the prosobranch snail Brotia hainanensis (Brot, 1872) (Gastropoda: Thiaridae) in Tai Po Kau Forest Stream, New Territories, Hong Kong, has been undertaken with population samples collected at approximately 14-day intervals between August, 1977 and March, 1979. This species shows two peaks of recruitment per annum, one in spring and a second in the latter part of summer. Growth to sexual maturity is rapid, taking approximately 8.5 months, and in this respect, as well as its dual peak of recruitment, B. hainanensis displayed some variation from the iteroparous pattern of life cycles considered to be characteristic of freshwater prosobranch snails. Mortality after the young snails reach maturity is high due to severe seasonal spates in the stream and it is suggested that the modification of the life cycle of B. hainanensis from the type more usually encountered in freshwater prosobranchs reflects that this is an r-selected species adapted to a habitat where high density-independent mortality occurs. 相似文献

Silver nanowire (AgNW)‐based transparent electrodes prepared via an all‐solution‐process are proposed as bottom electrodes in flexible perovskite solar cells (PVSCs). To enhance the chemical stability of AgNWs, a pinhole‐free amorphous aluminum doped zinc oxide (a‐AZO) protection layer is deposited on the AgNW network. Compared to its crystalline counterpart (c‐AZO), a‐AZO substantially improves the chemical stability of the AgNW network. For the first time, it is observed that inadequately protected AgNWs can evanesce via diffusion, whereas a‐AZO secures the integrity of AgNWs. When an optimally thick a‐AZO layer is used, the a‐AZO/AgNW/AZO composite electrode exhibits a transmittance of 88.6% at 550 nm and a sheet resistance of 11.86 Ω sq?1, which is comparable to that of commercial fluorine doped tin oxide. The PVSCs fabricated with a configuration of Au/spiro‐OMeTAD/CH3NH3PbI3/ZnO/AZO/AgNW/AZO on rigid and flexible substrates can achieve power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 13.93% and 11.23%, respectively. The PVSC with the a‐AZO/AgNW/AZO composite electrode retains 94% of its initial PCE after 400 bending iterations with a bending radius of 12.5 mm. The results clearly demonstrate the potential of AgNWs as bottom electrodes in flexible PVSCs, which can facilitate the commercialization and large‐scale deployment of PVSCs. 相似文献

Urban landscapes provide unique environments for a wide variety of plants and animals, but their suitability may be limited by anthropogenic impacts such as pollution. We examined the potential utility of lichen and lichen-feeding moths as biodindicators of air pollution in Hong Kong by comparing carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) stable isotope values in lichens, lichenivorous and non-lichenivorous moths (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) and a moth outgroup (Lepidoptera: Geometridae). Our results show that stable isotope values for C and N were similar for lichens and lichen feeding moths, while non-lichen feeding moths formed a distinct group. In addition, we found consistent δ13C and δ15N values across moth body parts, indicating that any portion of the specimen is suitable for isotopic fingerprinting. Our results highlight that lichen feeding moths may be useful for integrating signals of atmospheric nitrogen pollution and could therefore have utility in monitoring and quantifying air quality over time and space. 相似文献

本文报道了香港64种野生植物根系天然感染菌根菌的状况:98.4%的植物都不同程度地感染上了菌根菌,98.1%的根样发现受内生菌根(VAM)的感染,其中小叶青冈(Quercusmyrsinaefolia)同时受外生菌根(ECM)和内生菌根的感染。该研究揭示了香港次生林植物在自然条件下受菌根菌感染的普遍性,为进一步探讨华南地区菌根与退化地区植物群落演替的关系提供了重要的本底资料。 相似文献
