How the power required for bird flight varies as a function of forward speed can be used to predict the flight style and behavioral strategy of a bird for feeding and migration. A U-shaped curve was observed between the power and flight velocity in many birds, which is consistent to the theoretical prediction by aerodynamic models. In this article, we present a general genetic model for fine mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL) responsible for power curves in a sample of birds drawn from a natural population. This model is developed within the maximum likelihood context, implemented with the EM algorithm for estimating the population genetic parameters of QTL and the simplex algorithm for estimating the QTL genotype-specific parameters of power curves. Using Monte Carlo simulation derived from empirical observations of power curves in the European starling (Sturnus vulgaris), we demonstrate how the underlying QTL for power curves can be detected from molecular markers and how the QTL detected affect the most appropriate flight speeds used to design an optimal migration strategy. The results from our model can be directly integrated into a conceptual framework for understanding flight origin and evolution.  相似文献

In 1943, Weidenreich described the squamosal suture of Homo erectus as long, low, and simian in character and suggested that this morphology was dependent upon the correlation between the size of the calvarium and the face. Many researchers now consider this character to be diagnostic of H. erectus. The relationship between cranial size and shape and temporal squama morphology, however, is unclear, and several authors have called for detailed measurements of squamosal variation to be collected before any conclusions are drawn regarding the nature of the morphology observed in H. erectus. Thirteen fossil and extant taxa were examined to address two questions: 1) Are size and shape of the temporal squama correlated with cranial vault morphology? and 2) Is the H. erectus condition plesiomorphic? To answer these questions, measurements were collected and indices were calculated for squamosal suture height, length, and area in relation to metric variables describing cranial size and shape. A two‐dimensional morphometric study was also completed using High Resolution‐Polynomial Curve Fitting (HR‐PCF) to investigate correlations between curvature of the squamosal suture and curvature of the cranial vault. Results of both analyses indicate that squamosal suture form is related to cranial size and shape. Furthermore, the plesiomorphic condition of the squamosal suture for hominins was identified as high and moderately arched; this condition is retained in H. erectus and is distinct from the great ape condition. 改革开放以来,中国经济迅猛发展,但大气污染等环境问题日益突出。进入21世纪,我国通过颁布实施多项大气污染防治政策,将京津冀及周边地区、长三角地区、珠三角地区等大气污染较严重的区域划定为重点区域,针对性制定治污措施和实施减排工程,努力推动区域环境空气质量改善。基于2000-2019年我国31个省(自治区、直辖市)(以下简称31个省份)GDP,以及SO2、PM10、NO2三项大气污染物浓度数据,利用环境库兹涅茨曲线(EKC,Environmental Kuznets Curve)模型,对31个省份和京津冀及周边地区、长三角地区、珠三角地区的经济增长情况、大气污染物浓度演变以及二者之间的关系进行了系统全面的分析评估。研究结果显示:(1)近年来实施的各项大气污染防治政策,特别是2013年以来颁布实施的《大气污染防治行动计划》《打赢蓝天保卫战三年行动计划》,推动环境空气质量改善的同时,促进了经济发展与环境保护长期关系协调性逐步增强,除NO2浓度呈U型外,31个省份SO2浓度、PM10浓度与人均GDP的EKC曲线呈倒U型和倒N型,并处于快速下降阶段。(2)京津冀及周边地区SO2浓度与人均GDP呈倒U型,且处于快速下降阶段;PM10和NO2浓度均呈现U型关系,且均处于上升期。(3)长三角地区SO2、PM10浓度与人均GDP呈现倒U型和U型,但均处于下降阶段;NO2浓度与人均GDP无相关关系。(4)珠三角地区SO2、PM10和NO2浓度与人均GDP均呈现倒U型关系,且均处于下降阶段。为此,建议"十四五"期间我国政府要继续实施新一轮的大气污染防治行动计划,聚焦机动车NOx污染管控,大力推动NO2浓度稳步下降,以实现我国环境空气质量持续改善,为统筹经济高质量发展和生态环境高水平保护奠定坚实基础。  相似文献

The Boyle–van’t Hoff (BVH) law of physics has been widely used in cryobiology for calculation of the key osmotic parameters of cells and optimization of cryo-protocols. The proper use of linearization of the Boyle–vant’Hoff relationship for the osmotically inactive volume (vb) has been discussed in a rigorous way in (Katkov, Cryobiology, 2008, 57:142–149). Nevertheless, scientists in the field have been continuing to use inappropriate methods of linearization (and curve fitting) of the BVH data, plotting the BVH line and calculation of vb. Here, we discuss the sources of incorrect linearization of the BVH relationship using concrete examples of recent publications, analyze the properties of the correct BVH line (which is unique for a given vb), provide appropriate statistical formulas for calculation of vb from the experimental data, and propose simplistic instructions (standard operation procedure, SOP) for proper normalization of the data, appropriate linearization and construction of the BVH plots, and correct calculation of vb. The possible sources of non-linear behavior or poor fit of the data to the proper BVH line such as active water and/or solute transports, which can result in large discrepancy between the hyperosmotic and hypoosmotic parts of the BVH plot, are also discussed.  相似文献

IntroductionTargeted Radionuclide Therapy (TRT) is a branch of cancer medicine dealing with the therapeutic use of radioisotopes associated with biological vectors accumulating in the tumors/targets, indicated as Molecular Radiotherapy (MRT), or directly injected into the arteries that supply blood to liver tumour vasculature, indicated as Selective RT (SRT). The aim of this work is to offer a panoramic view on the increasing number of commercially-available TRT treatment planning systems (TPSs).Materials and methodsA questionnaire was sent to manufacturers' representatives. Academic software were not considered. Questions were grouped as follows: general information, clinical workflow, calibration procedure, image processing/reconstruction, image registration and segmentation tools, time-activity curve (TAC) fitting and absorbed dose calculation.ResultsAll software reported have CE-marking. TPSs were divided between SRT-dedicated software [4] and MRT [5] dosimetry software. In SRT, since no kinetic process is involved, absorbed dose calculation does not require TAC fitting, and image registration is not fully developed in all TPS. All software requires a radionuclide-specific calibration. In SRT, a relative image calibration can be obtained by scaling the counts to a known activity. Automated VOI contouring and rigid/deformable propagation between different acquisitions time-points is implemented in most TPSs, although DICOM export is rare. Different TAC fits are available depending on the number of time-points. Voxel S-value and Local deposition methods are the most frequent dosimetric approaches; dose-voxel kernel convolution and semi-Monte Carlo method are also available.ConclusionsAvailable TPSs allows performing personalized dosimetry in clinical practice. Individual variations in methodology/algorithms must be considered in the standardisation/harmonization processes.  相似文献

The conflict between economic growth and the environment is complex and sharper today than ever before. Indeed, the relationship between economic growth and the sustainability of ecosystems has been extensively discussed in the literature, but the results remain controversial.This paper reviews the use of single and composite indicators of environmental damage and questions whether the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis sufficiently mirrors the relationship between economic growth and ecological damage. Ecological Indicators are relevant when they potentially inform society about ecological developments in a reliable way. We use the modified composite index of environmental performance (mCIEP) to measure environmental damage, and GDP per capita to represent economic growth. The econometric model is developed using panel data composed of 152 countries and a period of 6 years. The model is estimated for the full sample, for three different sets of countries, by level of development, and a decomposition analysis is carried out, which corresponds to the study of the CIEP individual dimensions.Our results reveal that, at present, the EKC hypothesis is not proved. We conclude that it is critical to be clear that economic growth alone is not enough to improve environmental quality. Therefore, creating a consistent, coherent and effective environmental policy framework is essential in order to improve environmental quality that supports wellbeing and enables long-term economic development.  相似文献
