In the humid tropics, legumes are harvested and surface applied as mulch or incorporated as green manure. Studies on N dynamics and budgets from these systems report unaccounted losses of N. Ammonia volatilization may account for a significant percentage of these unexplained N deficits. The main objectives of this study were to: 1) determine the rate and amount of ammonia volatilization from organic amendments, both incorporated (green manure) and unincorporated (mulch), 2) compare ammonia volatilization of organic amendments on both acid (unlimed) and limed soils, and 3) correlate quality, i.e. polyphenolic and lignin concentration and carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, of the organic amendments with ammonia volatilization and net N mineralization. In an incubation experiment, ammonia volatilization losses and net N mineralization were measured from fresh leaflets of 10 legumes over a three-week period. Ammonia volatilization losses for the 10 species ranged from 3.4 to 11.8% of the total N applied in the organic amendment. Lignin content was negatively correlated to ammonia volatilization. Ammonia volatilized from mulches but not green manures, on both unlimed and limed soils, suggesting that ammonia volatilization is a surface phenomenon and not affected by soil pH. Net N mineralization was affected by species and soil pH, but was unaffected by placement (green manure or mulch). For the farmer in low-input agriculture where N tends to be limiting, volatilization losses of N from legume mulch systems could be on the same order of magnitude as crop removal. 相似文献

Cotton ovules collected during late September with prevalent night cool temperature (15°C), cultured at 30°C/15°C i.e. cycling temperatures in Beasley and Ting medium had very few epidermal cells showing bulging. Supplementing cultures with guaianolide derivative I (E-13 methyldehydrocostus lactone) promoted fibre initiation. At—1 day preanthesis (DPA), IAA oxidase activity declined in guaianolide-treated cultures but increased during the elongation phase and was enhanced during the secondary wall thickening phase. However, o-diphenol oxidase activity was adversely affected during the fibre initiation phase. The activities of all the other enzymes studied viz. acid invertase, phenylalanine ammonia lyase, -glucosidase and IAA oxidase increased, except -galactosidase, during the later phase in comparison with the controls. The present study indicates that guaianolide derivative I triggers early initiation and promotes fibre elongation by regulatin o-diphenols and IAA-oxidation levels, which in turn check wall loosening. Considerable enhancement in the soluble acid invertase activity by this compound suggests its role in apoplastic sucrose hydrolysis, thereby preventing its accumulation.Abbreviations DPA

Nitrogenous excretion in two snails, Littorina saxatilis (high intertidal) and L. obtusata (low intertidal) was studied in relation to temperature acclimation (at 4° and 21°C), including total N excretion rates,
the fraction of urea in N excretion, corresponding O:N ratios and the partitioning of deaminated protein between catabolic
and anabolic processes at 4°, 11° and 21°C. Aggregate N excretion rates in both species showed no significant compensatory
adjustments following acclimation. Total weight specific N excretion rates at 21°C were higher in standard 3 mg L. saxatilis (739 ng N mg−1 h−1) than standard 5 mg L. obtusata (257 ng N mg−1 h−1) for snails acclimated to 21°C. Comparisons of Q10 values of total weight specific N excretion to Q10 values for weight specific oxygen consumption ({xxV}O2) between 4° to 11 °C and 11° to 21°C indicated that, while total rates of catabolic metabolism ({xxV}O2) and protein deamination in L. obtusata were essentially parallel, the relationship between N excretion and {xxV}O2 in L. saxatilis revealed the partitioning of a larger share of deaminated protein carbon into anabolism at 4° and 21°C than at 11°C. N accounted for a larger share of aggregate N excreted in L. saxatilis than in L. obtusata, but in both species urea N is a greater proportion of total N excreted when acclimated at 4°C (urea N: ammonia N ratio range:
1 to 2.15) than in snails acclimated to 21°C (urea N: ammonia N ratio range: 0.46 to 1.39). Molar O:N ratios indicate that
the proportion of metabolism supported by protein catabolism is greater in L. saxatilis (O:N range: 2.5–8.4) than in L. obtusata (O:N range: 7.3–13.0). In both species, regardless of acclimation temperature, the O:N ratios are generally lowest (high

Coated membranes and vesicles play an important role in receptor-mediated endocytosis and intracellular trafficking in various cell types, and are also present in blood platelets. Platelets take up certain proteins from the blood plasma, such as von Willebrand factor and fibrinogen, and these substances are transferred to storage granules. The receptors for these plasma proteins on the platelet plasma membrane have been well characterized, but morphological evidence for their transport to the storage granules is not yet available. In an attempt to clarify this aspect, we employed postembedding immunocytochemistry on platelets embedded in the acrylic resin LR White. Clathrin as the major coat component of coated vesicles was localized in the cytoplasm, on the plasmic faces of -granules and the open canalicular system, and on the plasmic face of the plasma membrane. Colocalizations of the adhesive proteins, von Willebrand factor, fibrinogen and fibronectin, with clathrin could be observed at the same typical locations as coated vesicles were seen in Araldite-embedded material. These colocalizations have not been reported to date and furnish further evidence for a coated vesicle-mediated transport of blood plasma-derived adhesive proteins from their receptors on the outer plasma membrane to the -granules. 相似文献

Summary In the present study the binding of [3H]MK-801 to glutamatergic receptors of the NMDA type was compared in spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) and normotensive (WKY) rats in various brain structures (including nucleus tractus solitarii) by quantitative receptor autoradiography. Additionally, blood pressure changes after treatment with the NMDA antagonist MK-801 were studied in both strains. 报道了广西侗族的ABO、MNSs、Rhesus、Duffy、Kidd、P、Diego、Lewis和Xg等九种红细胞血型系统和ABH唾液分泌型的分布。共调查了201名父母均系侗族而彼此无血缘的学生,其中男116名,女85名。结果表明,广西侗族中ABO系统的r基因(0.6286)、MN系统的m基因(0.6294)、Duffy系统的Fy~a基因(0.9651)、Kidd系统的JK~a基因(0.4628)和Rhesus系统的CDe染色体(0.7532)等频率都很高,ABO系统的q基因(0.1672)、P系统的P_1基因(0.1333)和Lewis系统的Le~a基因(0.3232)等频率较低。MNSs系统的S基因(0.0124)频率很低,而MS染色体连锁率却为零。Xg系统的Xg~a基因频率(0.3746)与汉族和维吾尔族一样,处于低水平。Lewis系统的Le(a )表型者中发现八例是ABH唾液分泌型,但分泌的物质不是A便是B,而分泌H物质的唾液分泌型者全部都是Le(a-)型。六个民族间遗传距离分析表明,侗族与壮族在血缘上最近,其次是与朝鲜族、蒙古族、汉族相近,而与维吾尔族最远。 相似文献

Amoscanate, when administered orally as an aqueous or “formulated” preparation, induced pronounced ultrastructural abnormalities in male and female Schistosoma haematobium. Higher dose levels of the aqueous suspension (300 mg/kg body wt) had to be administered to achieve the full range of effects induced by formulated doses of 2.5–8 mg/kg body wt. Worms were recovered from hamsters between 1 and 120 hr after treatment. Although the amount of amoscanate-induced damage varied considerably between worms, an overall pattern of damage emerged. Initially, 1 hr after treatment, amoscanate caused tegumental vacuolation and oedema. As the drug treatment period was extended to 24 hr, blebbing, exudation, collapse of sensory organelle bases, and abnormal mitochondria became increasingly evident. With exposure to higher drug doses (50–300 mg/kg body wt), the tegument became further distorted with the appearance of necrotic structures and myelin whorls, which appeared to represent various stages in lysosomal formation and digestion. Eventually, erosion of surface layers resulted in the breakdown of tegumental integrity. The caeca and vitellaria were also adversely affected by drug treatment. Basal vacuolation and the formation of myelin whorls occurred in the gastrodermis. In the mature S4 vitelline cells, coalesced vitelline droplets and myelin whorls were evident. 相似文献

Abstract The kinetic parameters of NH+ 4 -uptake in yeast cells were determined by a method that is based on the following changes in the external NH+ 4 concentration in cell suspensions by using NADH-dependent glutamate formation from NH+ 4 and 2-oxoglutarate.
