Hormonal Regulation of Pedicel Abscission in Begonia Flower Buds   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In order to analyse the hormonal regulation of flower bud shedding in Begonia, levels of indoleacetic acid (IAA), abscisic acid (ABA) and ethylene were determined in buds and pedicels. The translocation and metabolism of 14C-labeled IAA in pedicel segments were also studied. In a monoecious Begonia fuchsioides hybrid, abscising male flower buds contain about 1% of the IAA present in non-abscising female flowers. In a male Begonia davisii hybrid, the seasonal variation in bud drop coincides with changes in the IAA content of the buds, while also the release of IAA from the bud to the pedicel is hampered. Abscission zones of these pedicels always contain abscission promoting ethylene concentrations. The tissue is prevented from responding with abscission by IAA from the flower buds. The buds also contain ABA but without influencing abscission considerably. Pretreatment with ethylene or ABA does not affect IAA transport in pedicel segments. The rate of this transport is 4–6 mm × h–1:; the capacity increases with the transverse area. In young segments, IAA is decarboxylated and also otherwise metabolized.  相似文献

The pandemic outbreaks of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), spread all over the world in a short period of time. Efficient identification of the infection by SARS‐CoV‐2 has been one of the most important tasks to facilitate all the following counter measurements in dealing with the infectious disease. In Taiwan, a COVID‐19 Open Science Platform adheres to the spirit of open science: sharing sources, data, and methods to promote progress in academic research while corroborating findings from various disciplines has established in mid‐February 2020, for collaborative research in support of the development of detection methods, therapeutics, and a vaccine for COVID‐19. Research priorities include infection control, epidemiology, clinical characterization and management, detection methods (including viral RNA detection, viral antigen detection, and serum antibody detection), therapeutics (neutralizing antibody and small molecule drugs), vaccines, and SARS‐CoV‐2 pathogenesis. In addition, research on social ethics and the law are included to take full account of the impact of the COVID‐19 virus.  相似文献

Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) grown in screenhouses in Taiwan showed ringspots and concentric line patterns on leaves. A virus having isometric particles approximately 30–32 nm in diameter was isolated from affected lisianthus. Combined results of biological, cytological, serological, molecular and phylogenetic analyses show that the virus can be identified as Pothos latent virus (PoLV), genus Aureusvirus, family Tombusviridae. Inoculating the virus on non‐infected lisianthus plants reproduced the symptoms previously observed in the field. So, this is the first report of PoLV causing disease in lisianthus and the first report of the virus in Taiwan.  相似文献

Strongylocentrotus purpuratus Otx (SpOtx) is required simultaneously in sea urchin development for the activation of endo16 in the vegetal plate and for the activation of spec2a in the aboral ectoderm. Because Otx binding sites alone do not appear to be responsible for the spatially restricted expression of spec2a, additional DNA elements were sought. We show here that consensus Otx binding sites fused to basal promoters are sufficient to activate CAT reporter gene expression in all cell types, although expression in endomesoderm progenitors is enhanced. On the other hand, three non-Otx elements derived from the spec2a enhancer are needed together with Otx sites for specifically aboral ectoderm expression. A DNA element termed Y/CBF, lying just downstream from an Otx site within the spec2a enhancer, mediates general activation in the ectoderm. A second element lying between the Otx and Y/CBF sites, called OER, functions to prevent expression in the oral ectoderm. A third site, called ENR, overlapping another Otx site, is required to repress endoderm expression. Three distinct DNA binding proteins interact sequence specifically at the Y/CBF, OER, and ENR elements. The spec2a enhancer thus consists of closely linked activator and repressor elements that function collectively to cause expression of the spec2a gene in the aboral ectoderm.  相似文献

Dendrites show remarkable diversity in morphology and function, but the mechanisms that produce the characteristic forms is poorly understood. Insect systems offer a unique opportunity to manipulate and study identified neurons in otherwise undisturbed environments. Recent studies in Drosophila show that dendritic targeting, branching patterns, territories, and metamorphic remodeling are controlled in specific ways, by intrinsic genetic programs and extrinsic cues, with important implications for function. Here, we review some recent advances in our understanding of dendritic development in insects, focusing primarily on insights that have been gained from studies of Drosophila.  相似文献

Much attention has focused on dendritic translational regulation of neuronal signaling and plasticity. For example, long-term memory in adult Drosophila requires Pumilio (Pum), an RNA binding protein that interacts with the RNA binding protein Nanos (Nos) to form a localized translation repression complex essential for anterior-posterior body patterning in early embryogenesis. Whether dendrite morphogenesis requires similar translational regulation is unknown. Here we report that nos and pum control the elaboration of high-order dendritic branches of class III and IV, but not class I and II, dendritic arborization (da) neurons. Analogous to their function in body patterning, nos and pum require each other to control dendrite morphogenesis, a process likely to involve translational regulation of nos itself. The control of dendrite morphogenesis by Nos/Pum, however, does not require hunchback, which is essential for body patterning. Interestingly, Nos protein is localized to RNA granules in the dendrites of da neurons, raising the possibility that the Nos/Pum translation repression complex operates in dendrites. This work serves as an entry point for future studies of dendritic translational control of dendrite morphogenesis.  相似文献

Series of naphthoquinone thiol-crown ethers had been prepared. The antibacterial, antifungal, and cytotoxic activities of these synthetic naphthoquinone thiol-crown ethers were investigated. All of the compounds tested displayed antibacterial, cytotoxic and antifungal activities. The bis-naphthoquinone thiol-crown ether 7a was the most potent inhibitor among tested analogues against Staphylococcus aureus methicillin resistance with MIC value of 2.68 microM.  相似文献

The convulsions of approximately 25% of epileptics are inadequately controlled by currently available medication; therefore the preparation of new antiepileptic drugs is of great interest. Aryl semicarbazones can be considered a new class of compounds presenting anticonvulsant activity. In addition, they can be orally administered and are more active as anticonvulsants than mephenytoin or phenobarbital. However, one disadvantage of these compounds is their low water solubility. As a strategy to circumvent this problem, a 1:1 inclusion compound of benzaldehyde semicarbazone (BS) and hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HP-beta-CD) was prepared and characterized. The anticonvulsant activities of the free semicarbazone and of the inclusion compound were evaluated in rats using the maximum electroshock and audiogenic seizures screenings. In both tests the minimum dose of compound necessary to produce activity decreases from 100mg/kg for the free semicarbazone to 35 mg/kg for the inclusion compound, indicating a significant increase in the bio-availability of the drug.  相似文献
