Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a B-lymphotropic human herpes virus that infects B lymphocytes and is associated with a broad spectrum of benign and malignant diseases. B cell infection by EBV causes indefinite cell proliferation that results in the development of immortalized lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs). We found that SNU-1103, a latency type III EBV-transformed LCL developed from a Korean cancer patient, resisted the G1 arrest that was normally caused by serum starvation. Western blot analyses revealed several alterations in the expression of key regulatory cell cycle proteins involved in the G1 phase. High expression of cyclin D2 and time-dependent increases in cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6) and cyclin D3 were observed in SNU-1103 during serum starvation. Very unexpectedly, in SNU-1103, the key G1 phase CDK inhibitor p21CiP1 was expressed at a consistently high level, while p27KiP1 expression was increased. Of three pRb family proteins, pRb expression was reduced and it became hypophosphorylated in SNU-1103 during serum starvation. Instead, p107 and p130 were expressed at consistently high levels in SNU-1103 during serum starvation. In conclusion, compared with an EBV-negative BJAB cell line, multiple cell cycle regulatory proteins were abnormally or inversely expressed in SNU-1103 during serum starvation. 相似文献

A new genus of Pfiesteria‐like heterotrophic dinoflagellate, Luciella gen. nov., and two new species, Luciella masanensis sp. nov. and Luciella atlantis sp. nov., are described. These species commonly occur with other small (<20 μm) heterotrophic and mixotrophic dinoflagellates in estuaries from Florida to Maryland and the southern coast of Korea, suggesting a possible global distribution. An SEM analysis indicates that members of the genus Luciella have the enhanced Kofoidian plate formula of Po, cp, X, 4′, 2a, 6″, 6c, PC, 5+s, 5?, 0p, and 2″″. The two four‐sided anterior intercalary plates are diamond shaped. The genus Luciella differs from the other genera in the Pfiesteriaceae by a least one plate in the plate tabulation and in the configuration of the two anterior intercalary plates. An SSU rDNA phylogenetic analysis confirmed the genus as monophyletic and distinct from the other genera in the Pfiesteriaceae. The morphology of Luciella masanensis closely resembles Pfiesteria piscicida Steid. et J. M. Burkh. and other Pfiesteria‐like dinoflagellates in size and shape, making it easily misidentified using LM. Luciella atlantis, in contrast, has a more distinctive morphology. It can be distinguished from L. masanensis and other Pfiesteria‐like organisms by a larger cell size, a more conical‐shaped epitheca and hypotheca, larger rhombic‐shaped intercalary plates, and an asymmetrical hypotheca. The genus Luciella is assigned to the order Peridiniales and the family Pfiesteriaceae based on plate tabulation, plate pattern, general morphology, and phylogenetic analysis. 相似文献

In pharmaceutical companies and research institutes, many toxicity tests are performed with laboratory animals. This study was performed to produce reference data for eye toxicity tests and to investigate the ophthalmic diseases of 408 ICR mice and 119 BALB/c mice, which are commonly used as subjects in toxicity tests. The experimental animals without clinical disorders were selected regardless of sex. The ophthalmic diseases were examined by using special ophthalmic instruments: direct ophthalmoscope, indirect ophthalmoscope, slit-lamp biomicroscope and focal illuminator. The most prevalent ocular variation within normal limits was hyaloid vessel remnant (ICR mice, 28.2%; BALB/c mice, 31.9%) and the incidence gradually decreased with age. The ocular diseases found in ICR mice were retinal degeneration (9.8%), corneal scar (4.2%), focal cataract (2.2%), anisocoria (1.2%), corneal ulcer (0.2%) and uveitis (0.2%). In BALB/c mice, corneal scar (9.2%), focal cataract (1.7%) and corneal ulcer (0.8%) were the ocular diseases found. 相似文献

The goal of this study is to quantify and determine the way in which the emotional response to music is reflected in the
electrical activities of the brain. When the power spectrum of sequences of musical notes is inversely proportional to the
frequency on a log-log plot, we call it 1/f music. According to previous research, most listeners agree that 1/f music is much more pleasing than white (1/f
0) or brown (1/f
2) music. Based on these studies, we used nonlinear methods to investigate the chaotic dynamics of electroencephalograms (EEGs)
elicited by computer-generated 1/f music, white music, and brown music. In this analysis, we used the correlation dimension and the largest Lyapunov exponent
as measures of complexity and chaos. We developed a new method that is strikingly faster and more accurate than other algorithms
for calculating the nonlinear invariant measures from limited noisy data. At the right temporal lobe, 1/f music elicited lower values of both the correlation dimension and the largest Lyapunov exponent than white or brown music.
We observed that brains which feel more pleased show decreased chaotic electrophysiological behavior. By observing that the
nonlinear invariant measures for the 1/f distribution of the rhythm with the melody kept constant are lower than those for the 1/f distribution of melody with the rhythm kept constant, we could conclude that the rhythm variations contribute much more to
a pleasing response to music than the melody variations do. These results support the assumption that chaos plays an important
role in brain function, especially emotion.
