ABSTRACT

Yeast mannan is a part of yeast cell wall and can potentially affect gut microflora as a soluble dietary fiber. We demonstrated that yeast mannan suppressed putrefactive production and increased the relative abundance of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron in in vitro fecal fermentation. These results suggest that yeast mannan can be used as a novel prebiotic food ingredient.  相似文献

Thirteen polysaccharides isolated from an extract of the aerial portions of Astragalus mongholics Bunge demonstrated immunomodulating activity against Peyer’s patch immunocompetent cells. Nine of the active polysaccharide fractions were composed of either arabinogalactans, pectic arabinogalactans or pectins. The activities of the arabinogalactans and pectic arabinogalactans were associated with β-d-(1  3)-galactan moieties branched with β-d-(1  6)-galactooligosaccharide side-chains having degrees of polymerization of 8 or less. Degradation of the β-d-(1  3)-galactan or β-d-(1  6)-galactosyl side-chains in the arabinogalactans significantly decreased immunomodulating activity. Rhamnogalacturonan I (RG-I) with β-d-(1  3,6)-galactosyl side-chains having terminal β-d-GlcA showed activity in the pectin-enriched fractions. Interestingly, the terminal GlcA was not required for activity of the arabinogalactan-enriched fractions, suggesting at least two different immunomodulating structures.  相似文献

The metabolic products resulting from the cultivation of F. asiaticum in agmatine were identified using capillary electrophoresis–time of flight mass spectrometry. Glyoxylic acid was detected from fungal cultures grown in agmatine, while it was absent in control cells. The abundance of other metabolic products of the glycolytic pathway also increased because of agmatine; however, there was no increase in the amounts of pyruvic acid or metabolites from the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Moreover, gene expression levels within Fusarium asiaticum exposed to agmatine were analyzed by DNA microarray. Changes in gene expression levels directed the changes in metabolic products. Our results suggest that acetyl coenzyme A, which is a starting substrate for the biosynthesis of deoxynivalenol (DON), was simultaneously produced by activated β-oxidation. Furthermore, the content of 4-aminobutyrate (GABA) was increased in the agmatine addition culture medium. GABA can be synthesized from agmatine through putrescine and might influence the regulation of DON-related genes.  相似文献

Circadian clocks are internal daily time keeping mechanisms that allow organisms to anticipate daily changes in their environment and to organize their behavior and physiology in a coherent schedule. Although circadian clocks use temperature compensation mechanisms to maintain the same pace over a range of temperatures, they are also capable of synchronizing to daily temperature cycles. The fact that Nocardia amarae YK1 produced a bacterial flocculation-inducing substance (designated as FIX) was discovered. FIX had a function of flocculating proliferous cells. FIX-induced flocculation was inhibited by making cells resting, but not completely by adding chloramphenicol. FIX worked widely on Gram-positive to -negative bacteria. In the presence of FIX, Achromobacter cycloclastus IAM1013, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus IAM1517, Bacillus subtilis IAM1069, Escherichia coli C600-1, E. coli IAM1239, Flavobacterium lutescens IAM1667, Klebsiella pneumoniae IAM1102, Micrococcus luteus IAM1313 and Pseudomonas putida IAM1002 formed flocs. B. cereus IAM1029, however, exhibited no flocculation.  相似文献
