The lower levels of the Lipeón Formation, in the Eastern Cordillera, north-west Argentina, yield a marine-dominated palynomorph assemblage, together with graptolites of mid to late mid Llandovery age (Demirastrites convolutus and probably Stimulograptus sedgwickii zones). The palynomorph assemblage is dominated by acritarchs, but also contains algae and terrestrial cryptospores. Crassiangulina variacornuta, considered a potentially good global biostratigraphical marker for the Upper Llandovery is recovered for the first time from the Silurian of Argentina. The occurrence of this species in strata not younger than late Aeronian, and independently dated by graptolites, indicates an early first appearance for Crassiangulina variacornuta, in the Lipeón Formation, below the Aeronian/Telychian boundary. The lower part of the unit corresponds to a quiet marine environment; thus supporting that Crassiangulina variacornuta is a facies-sensitive acritarch.  相似文献

Calcium transport by bull spermatozoa plasma membranes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Plasma membrane isolated from frozen ejaculated bull spermatozoa were found to contain calcium transport activity. Thin-section electronmicrography of these membranes revealed relatively homogeneous vesicular membranes with sizes ranging from 2000 to 6000 A in diameter. Membrane vesicles that were exposed to oxalate as a calcium-trapping agent accumulated Ca2+ in the presence of Mg2+ and ATP. One microM of the calcium-ionophore A23187, added initially, completely inhibited net Ca2+ uptake and, if added later, caused the release of Ca2+ accumulated previously. An Arrhenius plot for the rate of Ca2+ uptake revealed a break at 32--33 degrees C, and Ea of 4.4 kcal/mol above the break and 32.2 kcal/mol below. The Ca+ uptake was inhibited by low concentrations of quercetin, which is known to be an inhibitor of (Ca2+ + Mg2+)-ATPase in many systems.  相似文献

Quantitative genetic variation in the glyoxalase-1 content (QGlo-1) of red cells of mice is described. Its genetic control is shown to be exerted by either the Glo-1 locus or a closely linked gene to the left of H-2K. Background  

Detecting candidate B-cell epitopes in a protein is a basic and fundamental step in many immunological applications. The protective effects of interferons (IFNs) against NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity (NK-CMC) is well established. We report here that both recombinant tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and recombinant interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1 alpha) can also protect some adherent target cells (e.g., the amniotic cells WISH and the cervical epithelial carcinoma cells HeLa-229) from NK-CMC in a dose-dependent manner. Like in the case of IFNs, the level of conjugate formation between target and effector cells (nonadherent peripheral blood lymphocytes) is not affected by pretreatment of the target cells with either TNF-alpha or IL-1 alpha. However, while the main effect of IFNs is to reduce the ability of target cells to stimulate the release of NK cytotoxic factor (NKCF) from effector cells, TNF-alpha and IL-1 alpha do not affect this process but rather reduce the target cell sensitivity to the lytic effect of NKCF. Therefore TNF-alpha and IL-1 alpha induce resistance to NK-CMC by a mechanism that differs from the one attributed to IFNs. The protective effect of TNF-alpha and IL-1 alpha is not mediated by the induction of IFN-beta 2/IL-6.  相似文献
